| Your Fertile Window – New Technology to Accurately and Easily Track your Cycles | 08 Mar 2023 | 00:35:12 | |
In this episode of the Conceive Baby Podcast, we’re diving into the world of menstrual cycles and particularly how to better understand your unique cycle to help you create your healthy pregnancy. A healthy menstrual cycle and ovulation is vital to creating a pregnancy but did you know you may be getting your period without ovulating? If you are ovulating, only around 14% of women actually ovulate on day 14 like the text book tells us? Also that once ovulated, your egg only lives for about 12 – 24 hours each month! But is really only capable of being fertilized in the first 4 hours! Yet despite how important this is, research shows that almost 90% of women attending IVF clinics, didn’t have a good understanding of their cycle and their fertile window. So today we’re going to be talking about how you can get a better understanding of your cycle and your fertile window as well as new technology that can help make it even easier. And to dive into this topic, my guest today is Olivia Orchowski. Olivia is a personal trainer, women's health coach, doula, and founder of Femtek. Olivia has spent almost a decade working with women, and in that time realised just how many of these women were suffering from poor body literacy, menstrual health issues, and were utterly disconnected from their fifth vital sign. This lead her to years of research and development, to then birth Femtek into the world. Femtek is the name behind the world’s first menstrual health focused smart ring; aiming to provide a new cycle tracking experience and body literacy to women worldwide. Infertility is a team sport. Yet, for many, the focus is on the woman. Not only in regards to preconception health, testing, treatment and diagnosis, but also around emotional health and support. Jon Summers is leading the charge when it comes to opening up this conversation around infertility for men. Just like women, men can experience a fertility diagnosis. And just like women, that diagnosis brings it uncertainty, fear, guilt and all sorts of emotional turbulence. Many men feel negative emotions as they watch their partners suffer, both with the burden of fertility treatment and also the pain that they may feel for their missing baby. After surviving testicular cancer, Jon and his partner Laura went through 15 IVF cycles, 2 sperm retrieval surgeries and thousands of injections. They discovered that infertility is a marathon that requires strength and resilience. Jon's pragmatic yet jovial approach to the challenge of infertility helps to ease a bit of the burden, especially for men. In this episode, Jon shares his personal infertility journey, what he has learned along the way (and the mistakes he’d like to help you avoid!) as well as his tips and advice for navigating the journey through infertility. | Probiotics and Your Microbiome. Why your microbiome matters and what you must know BEFORE taking probiotics for your fertility health | 28 Sep 2022 | 00:39:43 | |
Your microbiome plays a crucial role in your reproductive health, affecting hormone metabolism, inflammation, immune function, receptivity to pregnancy and more. The reproductive system was once considered a sterile environment, but recent research has shown the presence of a microbiome not only in the gut and vagina but also in the ovaries, fallopian tube and uterus! Imbalances in this microbiome can lead to reduced pregnancy rates and increased risk of miscarriage. And it’s not just women! Sperm health is also affected by imbalances in their microbiome. So how do you ensure a healthy microbiome? How do you even know if yours is healthy or not? Does this mean you should take a probiotic? Which strains are actually effective? We cover all this and more with a wonderful colleague Functional Nutritionist Emma Park. Emma Park is an accredited Functional Nutritionist based on the Mornington Peninsula. Emma is an industry leader in the field of Gut Health and the Microbiome. Her passion for education sees her routinely present to groups regarding nutrition, gut health and the microbiome and its role in general health, wellness and healthy aging, as well as fertility, pregnancy, lactation and paediatrics.
