Today I am talking with Jay Anstine of Bluebird Healthlaw Partners. Jay is a lawyer and compliance officer and we are going to discuss strategies you can use to engage with leadership and be seen as a partner as opposed to an obstacle (or as my colleague described it a few years ago, a myopic obstructionist). Happy New Year everyone and thanks for joining me for the first episode in 2018. One of my goals for 2018 is to tackle subjects that have intimidated me in the past, see if I can get some clarity, and begin to feel more confident about my knowledge of those topics. Today is one of those episodes, so if you've ever been somewhat intimidated by cybersecurity, I think you are really going to enjoy my conversation with Donna Grindle. 

Donna is the founder of Kardon Compliance and also the co-host on the Help Me With HIPAA Podcast.  If you haven't personally been impacted by a cybersecurity breach, I am sure that you know people who have. It seems like every week we hear about another data breach and it's not just big health systems, physician practices, imaging centers, health insurance companies, and even Medicaid programs. No organization is immune. Cybersecurity is a huge risk for organizations and it makes sense to not only tackle the issue from a technology perspective, but also on a personal level because it only takes one employee to respond to a phishing email to expose an entire organization. I am really excited about today's show. One of the reasons I started this podcast is because I think compliance officers learn so much from listening to other compliance officers share their experiences. Today we are going inside the structure of the ACO compliance programs for two large health systems. We will talk with their compliance officers and each of will respond to the same questions so you'll get a really good understanding of their organizations, how they have set up their compliance programs and how they interact with governance and operational leadership. We'll also talk about challenges they've encountered, one area of compliance that they are focusing on in 2017, and then their recommendations for anyone either starting or managing an ACO compliance program. 

First we'll hear from Becky Lovelace, she is the Compliance Director for Ascension Care Management Health Partners. Then we will hear from Robert Jagielski, the Compliance Director of Clinical Integration for MedProVideX, a subsidiary of Dignity Health.

Today I thought it would be fun to take a break from talking about legal and regulatory obligations and talk about how we can make compliance engaging and maybe even a little fun. Corporate Compliance and Ethics Week is coming up the week of November 5th – 11th. I know a lot of organizations use this week to highlight their compliance program. I also know a lot of other organizations maybe don't celebrate any particular week, but may do something outside of the box every once in a while to help raise the profile of the compliance function. 

Every organization is different and has its own tolerance for fun and innovation, and the activities I talk about today can all be modified to fit the culture of your company.
