Ep 54 We Explore Vegan Batavia And Rochester NY - Randy Rainbow Live!

Season 1 · Episode 54

mardi 27 septembre 2022Duration 53:13

Send us a text

Hey Pickles!

We have a recipe for you from our Vegan Cookbook Challenge. This week we made a recipe from Isa Chandra Moskowitz' new book, "I Can Cook Vegan".

What a great book this is. It's perfect for new vegans, the vegan curious, and anyone who's looking for fun, weeknight recipes to make. It would also make a great gift for anyone that is looking to learn more about vegan cooking!

We saddled up the old Hyundai once again, and headed to Batavia and Rochester NY!

We had lunch at the adorable Eden Cafe & Bake Shop in Batavia. They're located at 242 Ellicott St, Batavia, NY.

What a cute and calming space they’ve created. Its a cute corner shop with lots of natural light coming from the front windows. With comfy bench seats lined with colorful pillows, plants in the windows, and a nice cozy color scheme of pink & sage green.

They are an all vegan establishment, and the food was fantastic!

We then had plans to see a couple shows in Rochester. The first of which was a modern dance performance that was part of the Rochester Fringe Festival , called Commotion Dance Theater. One of the dancers was a former student of Sam's, and we were thrilled that we were able to attend!

Before the second show that we were going to see, we had dinner at The Red Fern.

They are located at 283 Oxford Street, Rochester, NY.  With it’s inviting little red door, you step down into the place & come face to face with their awesome looking bakery case!

We throughly enjoyed our meal there, and we will definitely be back! As expected we grabbed a couple baked goods to take home with us. We got a lemon raspberry blondie & a chocolate peanut butter rice crispy treat!

We then made our way to the Kodak Center to see Randy Rainbow Live - The Pink Glasses Tour! What a fun show! If you love musical theater, and political satire, you will love Randy Rainbow. Check out his You Tube channel!

Thanks so much for listening! Enjoy the Show!

Ep 53 Celebrate Our One Year Podcast Anniversary With Us!! ALSO Hidden Animal Ingredients, AND We're Going to Washington DC!

Season 1 · Episode 53

mardi 20 septembre 2022Duration 41:53

Send us a text

Hey Pickles!

We're one year old!!! That's right we've been doing this crazy vegan podcast thing for a whole year! We're so glad that you've been here with us as we've grown and learned along the way!

We also had a big vegan birthday bash for Sam this past weekend. We'll fill you in on all the vegan food that we made for the party!

We made a recipe for our Vegan Cookbook Challenge with a bit of a twist.
This week's recipe was an homage to Christine's late Mother, Joyce. You'll hear why she honored her Mom with this particular recipe, and we'll share the recipe below! It's a recipe by Italian Chef, Lidia Bastianich. We have many of Lidia's cookbooks, however this recipe was not in any of them! We're pretty sure this recipe is only from one of her many cooking shows. We found it on a food forum!

We created a list of some of the hidden animal ingredients that you should watch out for when you're doing your grocery shopping, and we let you know in which foods you might find them.
We recommend the book Animal Ingredients A to Z by EG Smith Collective , and Carol Adams. We'll link to it below

We will be in Rochester NY this weekend to see Randy Rainbow at the Kodak Center, and we will definitely be seeking out some vegan eateries while we're in Rochester, so we will report back on that in next week's episode.

In other exciting news, we are going to Washington DC in October for the Animal & Vegan Advocacy Summit! The AVA Summit aims to accelerate progress and create systemic change for animals by empowering advocates and organizations to increase their impact.
We'll give you more details as the it gets closer!

Thank you so much for listening! Enjoy the show!

Ep 52 Vegan Great White North! Vegan Eats In Hamilton, North York, Vaughan & Toronto!

Season 1 · Episode 52

mardi 13 septembre 2022Duration 01:19:06

Send us a text

Hey Pickles!

We were scheduled to be at the Toronto Vegfest this week. Alas, the Vegfest was cancelled due to an issue with their venue, but we decided to go to Toronto anyway because we love Toronto, and we had a non refundable hotel reservation.

We turned lemons into the most delish lemonade, and visited so many great vegan establishments!

We stopped first at Coven Plant Based Marketplace in Hamilton where we got some great vegan groceries, and a couple really swell sandwiches.

Then, we headed to the Hamilton Market to see our friend Kristy at The Apothecary Kitchen, and to get some of her amazing soups!

After talking with the fine folks there, we moved on to see Fraser at No Bones Plant Based Kitchen. We had a great time talking with Fraser while he baked us up some of his epic vegan sausage rolls.

We stayed in Vaughan, visited a huge Ikea, and had dinner at the Vaughan location of Copper Branch, a casual vegan place that has a ton of options to choose from.

We visited the Ontario Science Center, AND we had some of the best vegan Indian food at The Veggie Thali in North York. If you're in this area, and love Indian food, don't miss this place. So good!

On our way back, we stopped in Hamilton again to check out The Hearty Hooligan. This place is a funky little gem on Ottawa St with an amazing menu that's jam packed with vegan burritos, sandwiches, quesadillas & pizza pockets. They also have some great smoothies, coffee drinks and cocktails!

This was such a great weekend of vegan food & fun. We hope you enjoy coming along with us!

Ep 50 Vegan Meet Ups - AFA Zoom Meeting - We Take Yinz To The Pittsburgh Vegfest

Season 1 · Episode 50

mardi 30 août 2022Duration 01:02:48

Send us a text

Hey Pickles!

We have a ton to talk about this week, so we've pushed pause on our Vegan Cookbook Challenge to make room for it all!

We went to a vegan meet up in Buffalo at The Beer Keep, hosted by Donisha Gant, owner of Plantae Vegan Market 212 Grant St Buffalo! We'll fill you in on the event and the food we found at The Beer Keep.

We sat in on a zoom meeting hosted by Connie Spence, founder of Agriculture Fairness Alliance. She was reporting back on her trip to DC with their lobbyists where they had meetings with lawmakers to discuss the upcoming farm bill. Connie wants us to encourage you to join their vegan voter hub. It helps get information about animal rights policy out to vegan voters. You can do that here  https://agriculturefairnessalliance.org/vegan-voter-hub/

We headed south to the Pittsburgh VegFest! This was a big event with over 140 vendors.
There was food, animal sanctuaries, rescue orgs, food trucks, and live local bands!

It was a great event, and we want to thank everyone involved in putting it together!
We had a wonderful time, and it was a beautiful day!

Thank you so so so much for listening, and for supporting all we do!
