Saga Vol 4 [Arc Analysis #123]31 janv. 202600:20:59

We don't want to bury the lead on this one but you know we love us some Brian K Vaughan and Fiona Staples' SAGA. And you can see for yourself that, with this being the 4th volume we've covered, it's a series that's in our wheelhouse.

With our main characters moreso in hiding than actually on the run, can they find a way to raise Hazel while also staying safe? Prince Robot hasn't given up on searching for them, and a large chunk of the galazy now knows about them too.

An empire only really ever falls apart from the inside, afterall.

As a bonus drinking game, anytime you hear Coke N Dank say "bury the lead" in this episode, take a shot

Infamous Iron Man Vol 1: Infamous [Arc Analysis #121]11 janv. 202600:21:15

Tony Stark is dead and Victor Von Doom takes up the mantle of Iron Man, whether anybody wants it or not.

That's the premise for Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev's Infamous Iron Man book. It's a great idea and fun to think about the possibilities of how Doom could twist his newfound identity for his own gain, so hit play and listen to what Coke N Dank have to say

All True Crime Cases #26 [Arc Analysis #120]04 janv. 202600:22:04

November 16, 1947.  That is when All True Crime Cases #26 was released to the public. Who wrote it? We don't know. Who drew it? We also don't know, but we can tell you what it's about: Totally true crimes that all children should definitely read about... This comic flows through about 5 different stories, ranging from mobsters with guns to murderous circus acts and cowboys. All of which, of course, was marketed towards kids, because of course murder and crime is what junior should read about. All MIGHT be forgiven if it's actually any good, but... you'll have to listen in to find out for sure.

Kevin Eastman, Bobby Curnow and Tom Waltz have stuff to say! And so here we are, the next volume, after the brothers return from their much needed break. They left New York, regrouped, found themselves and are back in the city that never sleeps only to find... More trouble. Shredder has a stranglehold on criminal activity and the brothers are trying to use the element of surprise to wrestle it back.

Deadly Class Vol 5: Carousel [Arc Analysis #118]06 déc. 202500:28:52

With this 5th volume, Rick Remender and Wes Craig's Deadly Class is now our longest running Arc Analysis saga, beating out Fraction and Aja's 4 volumes of Hawkeye. Considering that Deadly Class vol 1 was our first ever Arc Analysis episode, it seems fitting that we're here with it now. This volume is an introduction to the "new class" of characters, spinning out of the bloody, fiery end of the last volume. That means a lot of new faces, some very familiar ones, and definitely some surprises that readers may or may not love, but to know for sure, you'll have to listen here.

The Vision Vol 2: Little Less than a Beast [Arc Analysis #117]28 nov. 202500:23:14

Remember that book we did last week? The one by Tom King and Gabriel Hernandez Walta? Ya, well we realized it is only two volumes long, so we finished it off in it's entirety, back to back.  The Vision wants a life of his own, away from the hustle and bustle. He just wants a nuclear family (that he made himself), go to his 9 to 5 (the Avengers), and have completely normal (creepy) neighbours! But it isn't always that easy... Especially when you're an android burying your head in the sand of a world that misunderstands you.

The Vision Vol 1: Little More than a Man [Arc Analysis #116]21 nov. 202500:16:53

What's that you say? A machine with a family, trying to act normal in a pleasant, boring society? Pfftt, that's nor exciting! What are Tom King and Gabriel Hernandez Walta thinking writing this Marvel series?

We'll tell ya what, folks - do not judge a book by it's cover because this is definitely not what you're expecting (probably). Whether it's good or not, well, push play and trust the us because we're never wrong.

Space Usagi: White Star Rising [Arc Analysis #113]24 oct. 202500:10:07

Usagi Yojimbo, the samurai rabbit, like you've never seen him before: in space! Talk about a fish out of water story, huh? Here at the pod, we usually love these types of things, where you pluck the hero(es) from a place of comfort and drop them into a setting that is alien to them... in this case, literally.

This is very Star Wars light, as Usagi and friends are tasked with getting codes from an overarching imperial force to save the galaxy. Sound familiar? We bet it does. But is it good? Listen in to find out

Killadelphia Vol 2: Burn Baby Burn [Arc Analysis #112]10 oct. 202500:24:13

There are a lot of vampire stories out there, but something that sets the second volume of Killadelphia: Burn Baby Burn apart from most bloodsucker tales is transparency, among other things. The police know about the vampires! They know about them and even have a branch of the department that specializes in vampire crimes.

When you take that element and add in the gritty writing, historical recreation elements, and cool cameos, you get Killadelphia.

What happens when an organized collection of vampires decide to otherthrow the city, and they aren't worried about being discovered? Listen in if you want to find out.

Crocodile Black [Arc Analysis #111]03 oct. 202500:24:31

We all have our own descent into madness, right? Dark, murderous thoughts? Life altering childhood trauma? Ok, maybe not ALL of the above, and maybe one of those things is a little spoiler-y for this book, but we're not going to tell you which one!

Crocodile Black is a dark, twisted story about the places dark thoughts (and mental illness) can take someone. It's moody, it's trippt, it's violent and pretty depressing, but is it a good read? Hit play to find out

Nancy Drew & The Hardy Boys: The Big Lie [Arc Analysis #110]26 sept. 202500:18:56

Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys debuted back in 1930 and 1927, respectively. And here we are now, in 2025, reading a crossover book from 2017 for our Arc Analysis series.

Not going to lie to you here, we did not know what to expect when we opened up this book, but lets just say it was not at all this. It's a grounded, mature take on joint series of young adult adventure/mystery books. Where this story goes stretches murder, interrogations, drug deals, gangs, etc... This is a prime example of giving a chance to a title you aren't sure about: You never know how much you might like it! (editor's note: we hated it) (edit to the editor's note: that was a joke... maybe).

Wolverine (1982) [Arc Analysis #109]13 sept. 202500:30:47

It didn't ALL start here, but at the same time, it kinda did. Riding high on Wolverine's popularity from the late 70's run, that expanded and revamped a villain from a Hulk comic into a mainstay with the diverse X-Men team, Claremont took him solo. And to do this, in 1982, he teamed up with up-and-coming young artist, Frank Miller. Together they created the Japanese backdrop for Wolverine/Logan stories for decades to come.

In this 4 issue run, we get a good examination into what makes Logan tick, and how he balances being a good man and a berserker raging animal... And women. Does 'pussy get him killed', as we like to say here, on Comic Patrol? I mean, it might. But you'll have to tune in to know for sure!

#114 - Thunderbolts & The Suicide Squad [Across the Pages]31 août 202501:22:35

It's been a while since we've done an Across the Pages(Axp) instalment... A type of episode that we like to do where we cross examine (kinda) two similar-ish properties from different universes (sometimes). This ultimately gives us an excuse to do two episode topics at once, where we take in a comic run for each property, as well as a movie for each property as well.

This time around it's Thunderbolts and Suicide Squad. What came first? Well, a simple google search could tell you that, but let's talk about the two properties at once, shall we? A Marvel team of anti-heroes and a DC team of anti-heroes... Sort of. Let's dive in In this episode we cover: Films: The Suicide Squad (2021) Thunderbolts* (2025) Comics: Suicide Squad: Kicked in the Teeth (2011) Thunderbolts: There is No High Road (2016)

It is up to everybody else in the school to kill and graduate or flunk out of King's Dominion and return home, ashamed.  We won't tell you which characters are labeled as "rats" in this description, so if you wanna know who lives and who dies, boot us up!

Farmhand Vol 2: Thorne in the Flesh [Arc Analysis #107]08 août 202500:25:20

We really enjoyed the first volume of Farmhand, and we really meant to get to this volume sooner than we did, but time is fickle and all that... Anyways, 60-something books later, we are BACK with Farmhand Vol 2, and boy is it seedy. Get it? Well, honestly, it's not that seedy, but I was looking for a pun.. prickly? Let's go with prickly. AND BOY IS IT PRICKLY! In this volume, the sins of the father come around, but not just for his kids, for the whole town, as the people who have been modified with one of Jedidiah's seeds are mutating in strange ways. Issue #10 of the new Jason Aaron Turtle run is out and just like we said, we love T-U-R-T-L-E POWER... as we're ongoing, ongoing and ongoing this new tmnt run!

Also, Dank doesn't miss an opportunity to address how the man was really a child, fell from his pedestal and never really was the one who should of been sitting in it. Viewer discretion is advised Dank really doesn't like Hulk Hogan.

We are going to check-in with which issues we read from last month and then look ahead for what's coming up in the solicitations for June, and pick out the ones that look most interesting to us. Our Pull List issues we cover in this episode are:

Guy Ritchie's Gamekeeper [Arc Analysis #106]25 juil. 202500:19:30

Hey, guess what? Guy Ritchie did a comic book! ... Kinda He didn't exactly write it himself but it sure is advertised as that. It's about a guy who works for a rich guy who takes in homeless guys to help with chores until Russian guys come for the rich guy and they meet a group of other guys who pull heists.  Still with us? Great! Then listen in to hear what we think when three different writers contribute to a comic book and whether it's a good idea or not to switch up said book's formula in the middle of the story.

The 90's were a time, and 1994 we were witnessing the Dark Ages of comics, although we didn't know. Welp -The Vision 1994 - helps us realize a lot about the 90's.

This story of Vision spans four issues of what could be an interesting take on "the man" split between -  the red synthezoid , Simon Williams and Alex Lipton.

But can they handle the weight needed to portray the robotic depth and density of this Marvel superhero?

Fantastic Four: The Galactus Trilogy [Arc Analysis #104]03 juil. 202500:22:45

Marvel's first family isn't just called that because it sounds clever. No, the Fantastic Four literally are the first family of Marvel Comics, and to celebrate that - as well as the new, upcoming flick - we are taking it back to 1965's Galactus Trilogy. That's right, the first appearance of the big, planet eating guy and his silver surfing henchman guy.

Does this read well 60 years later? Well, let me tell ya something: No. But is it iconic and fun to talk about? You betcha. Come along with us, step in our time machine and eat some planets with us or something?

Superman: For All Seasons [Arc Analysis #103]27 juin 202500:23:58

There's a new Superman movie coming out! And on top of that, we did some research: One of the biggest inspirations for the new flick (although not the MAIN one, but still), For All Seasons, has now joined our list of Arc Analysis runs (essentially our own book club).

Now, if you know us, we claim Superman is one of the hardest characters to write well because of his powerset, but when a writing team gets it, it can truly make you a fan. And this time of Loeb and Sale, do they get it? Well, you have to listen in with us if you want to know.

And hey, do you have an interest in predators? ...I kinda hope not, but check. AND LASTLY, do you you think mushing these three franchises together could work as a 4 issue miniseries? Well, whether you answered yes or no to that one, you should still hit play and listen to what we have to say about this comic from the year two thoouuusaaaaand!

#108.1 - Trials of X (Part 2)30 mai 202501:18:01

HOX POX DOX!! ITS A XbyX EPISODE!!!!

We return to cover the long celebrated X-Men Krakoa era

We're back on the Jonathan Hickman train, and we're waking back up to the world we almost forgot. As you can tell both Coke and Dank have spent countless hours following the Krakoan crew, through fire, magic and now in Beast's brain. So its easy to say we're back to finish what we started.

This ain't X of Swords, this ain't Reign of X, This is (more of) Trials of X!...

In this episode, we take a look at these 6 titles with Marvel Guide reading order

    • Phoenix Song: Echo #1-5
    • Marauders #24-27
    • SWORD #8-11
    • Wolverine #17-19
    • X-Force #21-26
    • Excalibur #22-26

If you want the complete picture, don't forget to check out our first part to this portion of the Krakoan era of X-Men, and if you want to read along too, that's dope... But we suggest maybe skipping Phoenix Song: Echo if you don't want to bail before we even get started... Thanks TRIAL of X (part II)

#107 - DSTLRY II15 mai 202501:07:55

It not often we get a chance to read comics from the ground up, but we lucked out with DSTLRY and their new brand imprint.

Still the brainchild of David Steinberger and Chip Mosher, in May 2023. This is the house that has given artist and writers a fresh perspective, setting themselves up as the house that writers built: "focus on ethics, creator empowerment, and equity. Along with up-front participation by the founding creators, DSTLRY sets aside an additional 3% of company equity to be distributed among the creators who have projects released within the first three years. This equity will be distributed based of performance of titles"

So what sells gets paid more. Seems simple right? Well in DSTLRY(episode) we said yes.

We've since come back to the cutting edge studio to see the 2nd round of titles that have released to the marketplace. We also check some Issue 2's to see if those titles went Boom, Bah or Whoosh from where we last left off.

So buckle up as Coke n Dank give you the rundown of all the new books under this studio house, from paid, to laid, to shade, everything gets a look!

The series:

  • The City Beneath Her Feet #1
  • Defiant - #0 issue
  • Endeavour - #0 issue
  • Warm Fusion #1
  • You Won’t Feel a Thing #1

We return for Issue #2:

  • Somna
  • The Blood Brothers Mother
  • Gone
  • Life
  • The Missionary
  • Time Waits
  • White Boat

No, "-ing" is not typically considered an adverb in English grammar. 22:49 - you're wrong Dank !

Deadly Class Vol 3: The Snake Pit [Arc Analysis #101]09 mai 202500:26:13

The very first Arc Analysis episode we did was for Volume 1 of a wonderful book called Deadly Class. It took us 62 Arc Analysis comic reviews, before we'd circle back to the kids of the King's Dominion Atelier of the Deadly Arts, and it didn't disappoint.

We are back for the 3rd instalment of the undeniable feverish pairing of pen Rick Remender and ink explosions of Wes Craig

This is the continued-continued misadventures of a high schooler assassins, and it's very 80's appeals. (no cellphones can save them, cause they don't exist!)

How are Marcus and Maria escaping the consequences of Chico? How does Saya and Willy deal with the fallout of the plan gone haywire? Can Marcus handle the news he doesn't know? and will he befriend Petra to help him make sense of the lunchroom politics of high-school ? What is really going on in that school, and what new characters are joining the mix? Watch those corners, you never know who's listening in the King's Dominion!

Buckle in  We got you covered, sawft cheezes and nu meatz - WE ON PATROL.

Kingdome Come [Arc Analysis #100]26 avr. 202500:56:08

Well Numeatz & Sawftcheezes we made it! The Comic Patrol celebrates their 100th Arc Analysis, and what better way would we celebrate than reviewing the 4 issue iconic pairing of Mark Waid and Alex Ross in Kingdom Come.

Arguably one of DC's greatest "elsewhere" books. It discusses themes of morality, changing landscapes, old batman, and a terribly named villain - MAGOG! MYGAWD.

Buckle in fans, as we go in, and dont sugar coat what Kingdom Come means to us.

We also take some time to give a nod to favourite Arc Analysis (AA) from the past 100 booms

*EDIT - DANKAGAIN HERE "thanks for reaching out sawftcheezes and noticing the error, we now updated the full intro into our part 3 of Daredevil: Born Again!" Carrying along the 'Born Again' tagline on your project is a tall order when that subtitle carries the weight from one of the best Daredevil stories ever written, so the next few episodes of our podcast - like we did with X-Men 97 last year - will be focused on the new Daredevil Disney+ series. This first part covers episodes 7. 8 and 9, so let's see how they stack up to the old Netflix series, and to the comic book legacy of Mr Matt Murdock (and Wilson Fisk).

Saga Vol 3 [Arc Analysis #99]20 mars 202500:24:32

Back at it again for - Saga time! The THIRDINING  And we can no longer lie about this Image published, Brian K. Vaughan written and Fiona Staples drawn: epic-of-spacegasim-proportions! The world is so big but that doesn't stop our eyes from reading more and more. We finally have 3 separate storylines converge all on the same side of the universe, planet Quietus.  Finally the bloodlust Prince Robot IV and bounty hunter Will descend down on our newborn parents. Only they aren't as close to the prize as they would think. The world is just so big and the bangs are even bigger, to this continuing space soap opera.

With our basis covered, we dive deeper into the psyches of our main characters Alana (wings) and Marko (horns) and stellar plot device of baby turned toddler Hazel, retelling the story of how her parents saved her life. Its the not so side characters: Gwendolyn, Oswald, Kiara, Lying Cat and Sophie Brand that help keep our protagonists on their toes.

Weird is no longer an understatement, as Saga answers the question "Whats the opposite of war?" What once was really freakin' weird, is now the journey we have no reason to stop enjoying, so we won't!

Bitter Root Vol 2: Rage & Redemption [Arc Analysis #98]15 mars 202500:23:39

The last time we opened the pages of this Eisner nominated Image Comic produced - Bitter Root. It was our 31st Arc Analysis episode and admittedly we were dumbfounded... A book so beautiful with vibrant tones, line work and emotion, paired with a concept so original and new but... ultimately stuck with a story too muddled. We have returned back to the second arc of Bitter Root: Rage & Redemption. The question is: do Coke n Dank become more enraged or does this monster hunting family gain redemption?

Janey Belle returns and goes west, as she makes her way to the wild dessert oasis that is Las Vegas. If the first volume was a sinker,  and volume two was a floater in a bowl, than this one, this one has to be good. right? amiright?

Listen in for our thoughts as we poke holes in everything except Janey's mutilated body!
