The teams have played each other three times in the playoffs with the Giants, holding a 2-to-1 edge. The last time the Vikings won was in 1997 led by Randall Cunningham. Can Kirk Cousins accomplish what Randall Cunningham did? First, we will take a look at what the Vikings learned from their contests against the Chicago Bears last week. Where are their goals met? Many players got to play after the starters were pulled in the second half. That extra game time for the backups has to help, doesn’t it? We’re going to do a round of quick hitters. On this 🎙The Real Forno Show 🏈 - The Minnesota Vikings regular season is over and they won 13 games for just the third time in franchise history. The previous two times were in 1998 and 2017 with both teams making the NFC Championship Game. On the Final Score today… It is the final game of the regular season and your Minnesota Vikings are looking for their 13th win. Will they get it? Absolutely! They started out with a 16-6 lead at the half which could’ve been a lot more if it weren’t for a couple of key mistakes. Justin Jefferson went over 1,800 yards for the season. In the second half, starting players have been pulled and backups are getting some playing time. We are seeing the likes of Venderian Lowe and Kyle Hinton in for Christian Darrisaw and Ezra Cleveland. Keen Nwangwu gets some RB snaps and even Jalen Reagor caught a pass so far and 2 total. At the end of 3 quarters, the Vikings lead still by 10 points, 23-13. Will they keep pressing to get the W? They did with the backups even. Joseph then hits a 53-yarder to make it 26-13. On today’s episode of Two Old Bloggers🎙 - We’re coming into week 18 and your Minnesota Vikings have a firm grasp on the #3 seed in the NFC playoffs, with a possibility if angels sing and unicorns sprinkle magic dust that they can accent to the #2 seed by the end of the day. Now what kind of miracle needs to take place? First, the Vikings need to defeat the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on that horrible turf. Second, the San Francisco 49ers must lose to the Arizona Cardinals to give it up. The Cards however are in pursuit of their own lousy record in hopes of a very high draft choice. Will that happen? Logically, doubtful, but anything can happen on any given Sunday in the NFL. Darren and Dave will be looking at three themes starting out with the offensive line worries. Due to some unforeseen and almost tragic injuries, both backup center Austin Schlottmann, and right tackle Brian O’Neill are out for the rest of the season. If Garrett Bradbury can come back to start at center, that would be great! However, like many of you when asked to help a friend move, his back is still bothering him. That means third-string center, Chris Reed, and third-string tackle, Oli Udoh, will get starts on Sunday. The offensive line will need this time to play so that they can gel going into the wild card weekend of the playoffs. Since this game should not be that competitive because the Chicago Bears are trying to lose and their hopes of gaining the #1 draft choice in the 2023 NFL draft, the question comes about, “Should the Vikes play the starters?” Head coach Kevin O’Connell is indicating that yes they will play. It could be because of those sensational hopes for the #2 seed, or it could be because they want to get a bad taste out of their mouth after being destroyed by the Green Bay Packers last week. Either way, it looks like we will see the starters, and it will be yet to be determined if that is a smart move or not. Then it’s onto those Windy City Bears who with a loss and a Houston Texans win, will get that #1 pick in the NFL draft. What does that mean for them? Well, they don’t really need a quarterback, if they believe in Justin Fields, who will not be playing on Sunday, so it could mean a massive haul in draft picks for some other needy team wanting to move up and grab a quarterback. On this 🎙The Real Forno Show 🏈 - Whew that was ugly. The Minnesota Vikings had a brutal loss at Lambeau Field when they lost to the Green Bay Packers by a score of 41-17. Outside of a blocked punt after just six total offensive snaps, nothing went right with some of it happenstance and some of it sheer luck. When we discuss this rendition of the Minnesota Vikings, calling them fraudulent is objectively asinine. They fell on the wrong side of every possible shade of luck and it's just one of those things that will happen from time to time, but it's the first time it's happened to this team. How did the Vikings lose this game? On the Final Score today… It is January 1, 2023, and the perfect time to start an annual of beating the Green Bay Packers. Happy New Year everyone! Your Minnesota Vikings have traveled to Wisconsin to renew the tradition of sweeping our biggest border rivals. The first half has been brutal and the Vikings trail at half 27-3. Same at the end of the third, but the Packers scored starting the 4th quarter to make it 34-3. They have been behind by more and have come back, but can they do it today? Absolutely not. The final score ended up being Packers 41-17 over the purple. The Packers have shut down, Jaire Alexander in particular doing the smothering of Justin Jefferson all day so far. Kirk Cousins has thrown numerous interceptions, but mostly not his fault. One of them returned for a touchdown in a crazy start to this game. Will it get better in the second half? No, of course it didn’t. We will have to see. …And we saw. The Vikings drop to 12-4 and the #3 seed in the NFC Playoff picture. On today’s episode of Two Old Bloggers🎙 - it is Packers week and your Minnesota Vikings are traveling to Lambeau Field for the second installment in the annual border battle. Cheese anyone? This should be a good one. We know Packers bloggers and podcast hosts have been slamming your Minnesota Vikings as being a fraudulent team this season. Does that mean we have to get back any of the 12 wins? Of course, it doesn’t. It just means they’re a bit jealous that the Vikings have a chance to end their 2022 season hopes. Today we’re gonna start by looking at the rookies in purple. Some have continued to contribute, others have not, and there’s a bunch that is getting better week by week. We’re gonna look at how those individuals are helping the team. We see increased snaps by individuals like Brian Asamoah, and Esezi Otemewo. They have been very critical. One of the smallest men on the team, Duke Shelley, has stepped up in a big way. He’s come in for an injured Cameron Dantzler and made his presence known. He may only be listed as 5‘9“, but he plays a lot larger than that. Finally, will break down the Minnesota Vikings at the Green Bay Packers. This is an NFC North rivalry that’s been around for a long time and that fans on both sides absolutely love. We relish the opportunity to sweep the Packers this season. No first-time head coach for the Vikings since Dennis Green has accomplished this. Will Kevin O’Connell pull out this rare achievement to add to the many that he has accumulated so far on the way to a 12–3 record? Will Aaron Rodgers play well without his number-one receiver? Christian Watson is questionable and may not play. Can Justin Jefferson continue to make Jaire Alexander look ridiculous? Jaire did a good job on his own this week commenting that in the first game, it was just a fluke that JJ and the Vikings performed so well. We will all see on Sunday. On today’s episode of Two Old Bloggers🎙 - your Minnesota Vikings are coming off the biggest comeback in NFL history where they defeated the Indianapolis Colts 39–36. What a wild game. Now it is time to look ahead to the New York Giants and keep that number two seed in the NFC for the NFC playoffs and the best chance in the quest for their first Super Bowl win ever. The first Darren wishes to give his last words on that absolutely dramatic game last Saturday. Unfortunately, he was one of those people that left after halftime. It should be good to hear his thoughts on the subject. …And give him grief, of course. Then we get into our quick hitters for today. There is one apology that Darren wishes to extend and I tend to agree with him. He can count Dave in on this one as well. Over what? That he and Dave advocated for KJ “Ozzy“ Osborn to be overtaken by Jalen Reagor on the depth chart and with playing time. Osborn had his greatest game to date. He was a key factor in the Vikings winning the game. Reagor on the other hand… It gets frustrating sometimes. Then we will dive into that New York Giants team with head coach Brian Daboll. He is up for coach of the year in the NFL. I think Vikings fans might disagree a little bit thinking that Kevin O’Connell with the Vikings' 11–3 record is a better coach, but Daboll is doing a great job with what limited resources he had in New York, and this game may prove to be a little bit tougher than purple fans would like. all that and more on today’s 2OB. On this episode of Climbing The Pocket’s “The Final Score”, we react with you! Your Minnesota Vikings had the opportunity to clinch the NFC North today. All they had to do was defeat the 4-8-1 Indianapolis Colts. The team with the worst offense in the league. After the first half of the game where the Vikings have trailed 33-0, it won’t even be close to those results. Why so far have the Vikings not shown up? …And they finally did winning 39-36 in overtime. What defensive adjustments are we seeing that were promised? Not sure, but in the second half and overtime, they held the Colts to only 3 points. After the first half, the defense is well on its way to giving up over 400 yards again for the sixth game in a row. But they didn’t. They held the Colts to only 341 yards in 5 quarters. Should Ed Donatell be fired? Well, somebody needs to be the scapegoat. Not this week. Our super fan, Mary Fisk, asks, “could this be the worst game in Vikings history?” I guess we have another half of football to sit through to find out. We did with the greatest comeback in NFL history. Wow! The team has at least scored in the third quarter. Can they score enough? Absolutely! On this 🎙The Real Forno Show 🏈 - The Minnesota Vikings finally had their streak of luck run short as they squander two banner offensive performances from both Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson in a 34-23 loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday afternoon. The Lions didn't put the Vikings away until the very end with a field goal by Michael Badgley. On this 🎙The Real Forno Show 🏈 - The Minnesota Vikings not only continue to find new ways to win, but also new ways to give the fanbase heart attacks. They gave the New York Jets every opportunity to win the game, but Camryn Bynum came up clutch with an interception to seal the game with 10 seconds left in a 27-22 victory.  The Vikings have been inconsistent on defense in some areas, but one where they have been consistent is refusing to break. They only allowed one touchdown on six red zone possessions and won their fourth game with a forced turnover to end it.  Next up for the Vikings is their division rival the Detroit Lions who just walloped the Jacksonville Jaguars 40-14 on Sunday. Can the Minnesota Vikings keep winning ways on track? Somehow, someway, they did. Will Kirk Cousins be hot to throw a lot of receptions? No. He had a bad day, but he did make some clutch throws when it was absolutely necessary. Can the defense stop Mike White and the Jets’ offense? When they had too at the end of the game. It was another cardiologist special down to the last 10 seconds. Will Sauce Gardner travel with Justin Jefferson from side to side? He did not. Can Kevin O’Connell increase his win total against a team that cut him years ago? Yes he can. The Vikings are now 10-2 baby! The Vikings took an early lead, but are looking to give it all back. Why do they do this? We still want to know. Do they want another chance at a comeback? No, but they did let it become way too close for comfort. On today’s episode of Two Old Bloggers🎙 - your 9-2 Minnesota Vikings face yet another test, this time versus the New York Jets and their PFF ranked #2 overall defense in the league. The Vikings have played 3 of the top five defenses in the league in the last 3 weeks. Now they face the Jets, who have a great defensive line and a trio of cornerbacks. However, they will be at home in US Bank Stadium with the crowd behind them. This makes it challenging for any team to play, and it pumps up the boys in purple. Today we’re going to look at the Vikings’ screen game. It isn’t as effective as we would like, nor as we would think it would be with Kevin O’Connell coming from the Los Angeles Rams. They employed a very effective one last year. Darren and Dave will look at some of the things that contribute to why the Vikings aren’t excelling in that area. As Vikings fans, we all know and dread that one moment when something goes terribly wrong. A lot of times it has been a kick that veers wide left. Occasionally it’s a key injury or series of injuries that doom a beautiful start to a season like in 2016. There is always that one thing. We become fatalists knowing that the Vikings have never gotten it done. Then we will look at the New York Jets versus the Minnesota Vikings. The Jets are playing backup quarterback, Mike White, after benching their starter Zach Wilson after a regressive start to his second season. Mike White had a stellar game against the Chicago Bears last week. However, can he do that against a quality team with a defense that loves to lock you down in the fourth quarter? On today’s episode of Two Old Bloggers - your Minnesota Vikings are now 9-2 fresh off of a victory over the New England Patriots. It was a bounceback game that was very much needed after the Dallas Cowboys thoroughly destroyed the Vikings. The final score against the patriots was 33–26. The Vikings versus patriots matchup was a good one. They are one of the best defenses in the league and facing Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson trying to get back on track Justin Jefferson turned out to be unstoppable. Kirk Cousins got all fired up, almost as if he put on the Kirk Cousins chains. It was wonderful and Darren and Dave got to talk about it. The first thing will be the bounceback game and the victory that places the Minnesota Vikings firmly in the second seed in the standings. They presently owned a one-game lead over the Dallas Cowboys and a 2 1/2-game lead over the San Francisco 49ers. A three-game lead over the New York Giants. If Kirk Cousins keeps playing as well as he is, especially when it comes to making plays downfield, that actually win games, the Vikings have a good chance of securing that second seed in the playoffs. If they are lucky, and the Philadelphia Eagles, lose two more games, they can compete for the first seed and cherished bye week. As for winning the NFC North, the magic number is down to two. One of the things of concern against the Patriots was how poorly the defense looked. Mac Jones had a career day for yards passed against them. Yes, the Vikings' defense has some injuries they’re dealing with in key positions, like with Dalvin Tomlinson at defensive tackle, Cameron, Dantzler, and Akayleb Evans at cornerback, and even with Za’Darius Smith, nursing an injured knee. Does that account for the decline in play over the last few weeks? Hopefully next week against the New York Jets, they will all be back and rested and we’ll find out. K. J. Osborn has established himself as a wide receiver #3 on this team. His targets and production however have been down. We had hoped we’d see him step up to compete with Adam Thielen for WR2, but it hasn’t materialized. Should we be concerned? Is Osborn a disappointment? He did make some important plays though. Be it in week three or against the Patriots when he denied an interception and caught the ball himself for a first down. But whether it is the scheme or lack of ability to get separation, he is not targeted as much this season as he was last year. That is driving the question. On this episode of Climbing The Pocket’s “The Final Score”, we react with you! It is Thanksgiving and the New England Patriots are visiting the Minnesota Vikings. Are you full of food? Has the turkey put you into a food coma? Or is this game going back and forth to where it is tied in the first half got you excited? It should have, and chock one up for the local cardiologist. LOL. Will find out if Kirk Cousins can keep up his uptempo play without throwing another interception. He did and even got more fired up. Fired up Kirk is a better Kirk Cousins. The great Justin Jefferson has already broken the three-season pass-reception record for the NFL. How much more yardage or touchdowns is he going to add for the whole game? He finished with 139 yards and 1 touchdown. Adam Thielen is third on the Vikings' all-time pass reception list and continues to add to it. He had a great catch in the end zone as well. Dalvin Cook seems to be running pretty well, will that continue or get better in the second half? Not really. Is the defense going to pick their end of the bargain up? Only at the very end, and that was enough. They seem to be very few pressures in the first half. Will they get more in the second? Late in game, yes, when Mac Jones needed deeper drop backs and couldn’t get away with his quick throws. Can the Vikings pull off the win and go to 9-2? They sure did in another 4th quarter comeback to win 33-26 over the Patriots. On this 🎙The Real Forno Show 🏈 - The Minnesota Vikings did what they did multiple times during the Mike Zimmer era: forget to show up at home and get destroyed in an embarrassing fashion. They lost 40-3 to a very good Dallas Cowboys team that did whatever they wanted to the Vikings on both offense and defense. This isn’t new for a lot of this Vikings’ team. You can look back to 2016 vs the Indianapolis Colts, 2018 vs the Buffalo Bills and Chicago Bears in week 17, and the Atlanta Falcons in 2020. The one that is interesting was the loss to the Bills and getting beat by a rookie Josh Allen. They played on Thursday night that same week against the Los Angeles Rams and played really well in a 38-31 game loss that changed everything for Mike Zimmer. This is only the second loss for head coach Kevin O’Connell but it’s also his biggest adversity to date. This is a turning point for this Vikings team. How will they respond? Are they going to come out firing? Was it just an emotional letdown from this past Sunday against the Bills? They could go one of two ways. They could turn left and let the injuries and lack of a plan B, like a quick passing game, or max protect on the O-line derail the season. Or… They could also turn right and be motivated by this blowout and return to winning and learning to dominate teams and establish that they are for real and not just overly lucky. The choice will make or break KOC’s first season. On this episode of Climbing The Pocket’s “The Final Score”, we react with you! Your Minnesota Vikings are coming off a big win against the Buffalo Bills and now face the Dallas Cowboys. Will this be a letdown game? It sure looked like it and what could go wrong, did. After the first half, it looks that way. Starting with a third-play strip sack and a fumble was not good. Not to worry, Dallas ended up with a total of 7 sacks and the O-line couldn’t answer. “Onto the Patriots”, to channel our inner Bill Belichick. Knowing that the Cowboys started out fast and furious in the first half, can the Vikings come back? Not a chance. They were trailing 23-3 at the half. Can they stiffen and stop Tony Pollard from eating their lunch? No, they didn’t when he 189 yards all on his own and the Vikings offense only had 183. It looks like Christian Darrisaw has gone out with another concussion. Not good. Then later we saw that Ezra Cleveland had some undisclosed injury. After some good throws by Kirk Cousins, can he complete more? Not much. Justin Jefferson only has two catches in the first half, will he get more in the second? He got only one more. In today’s episode of Two Old Bloggers - your Minnesota Vikings are fresh off their biggest win of the season where they beat the Buffalo Bills in overtime 33–30, but that’s not enough with their next opponent ready to stop the winning streak. The Dallas Cowboys come to town in week 11 to face the mighty Purple. Can Kirk Cousins out dual Dak Prescott? Who means more to the team? When it comes to stats they’re both not playing as well as they’d hoped this season, but one is getting wins. As usual, we will cover three themes in today's show. First, “look at us now,” a quote from Patrick Peterson. The Vikings currently have an 8-1 record and are the second seed in the NFC. They won their seventh Street game and look to win the eighth. It was a big important game up in Buffalo, and there have been very few that have rivaled it and just pure entertainment. Not only in entertainment, but also in importance. The Vikings pulled it out in the most imaginative ways possible, with the greatest catch ever, a failed quarterback sneak, and a dropped snap for a touchdown. We will do some quick hits in the second theme. The first one will be TJ Hockenson and what a difference he has made in just the two weeks he’s been on the team. The second will be Danielle Hunter, who seems to have found his place in the Ed Donatelle Defense. Defense production has shot up and everything has been great. The final quick hit will be how Kirk Cousins needs to go to Tom Brady’s school of quarterback sneaks. Kirk and the offense and struggled with this and it is a relatively simple play. The question is why? Finally, we will delve into the Vikings versus the Cowboys. The Cowboys have a mighty good defense and it will be a struggle to keep the Vikings' offense chugging and scoring points. Or will it? The time has come to admit that this isn’t your average or even good Vikings team. This group of men has been tremendous this season, winning seven consecutive games and six come-from-behind wins with Kirko Chains running the show.
