80% of of ocean pollution consists of plastics so in August 2014, California became the first state to enact legislation imposing a statewide ban on single-use plastic bags at large retail stores. The bill also required a 10-cent minimum charge for recycled paper bags, reusable plastic bags, and compostable bags at certain locations. Now, new regulations prohibit the sale of plastic bottles at events held on city owned property in San Francisco and government agencies may not purchase bottled water. Other cities have already begun enacting bans like S.F. which gives us all a little hope. Water bottle plastics are unhealthy for people and the environment.   EPISODE 3:  Safe Makeup Project: An interview with Annie Gabillet Annie is a former editor at PopSugar. She is now a Mom, a journalist (she has interviewed Michelle Obama!) and the creator of  Safe Makeup Project website.   In this episode, Annie talks about her journey into Clean Beauty and how, while at PopSugar, she worked on a 90 day “beauty cleanse” project complete with interviews with beauty industry experts and representatives from the FDA. What she learned affected her deeply. She made some immediate changes in her beauty routine and felt a profound responsibility to educate the public and decided to launch the Safe Makeup Project website.   In 2016, while pregnant, she learned that certain products used by an expectant mother can affect her child later in life (allergies, skin conditions). Her drive for more Clean Beauty education strengthened and her goal for this site, is for it to become not only a trusted and educational resource, but a Clean Beauty community.

Elaine Gong was raised in a remote region called Daliang Mountain in the southern part of the province of Sichuan in China. She excelled academically despite early hardships, including losing her father at only four years old and being raised by a single mother. After studying chemical engineering at the University of Cambridge and gaining experience at Unilever, she became passionate about skincare. This passion and a personal need for effective products led to the founding of SIMPLY THIS. She partnered with her husband and focused on creating high-quality, sustainable skincare products.
