The winner will be covered on the podcast in 2024! This year, there's a new twist: a chance for the Bums to cover a single movie that does not cleanly fit into a larger movie series. Vote on our Instagram story @CinemaBums every day of October to choose the champion! Tune in to hear Emmet and Wade break down this year's match-ups, meet Marmaduke, request romance, and declare Captain Ron "the greatest film ever put to film". Thank you for listening, and please enjoy!

Does it live up to the legacy of the original and stand on its own two feet? Tune in to hear Wade ask the question about Hobie and Gwen, Emmet find out about the wrestling-fueled sequel to one of their favorite films, and DeAndre admit to his failed Morbius predictions. Thank you for listening, and please enjoy!

The Cinema Bums are joined by Austin Spero (aka Reese Havoc) to discuss Baz Luhrmann's second film, the extravagantly titled William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet. This high school English class favorite is a monument to the 1990's, maximalism, and a young Leonardo DiCaprio. Does it still hold up today? Tune in to hear Emmet react to Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine, Wade reveal the secret kidnapping that happened behind the scenes of this movie, and Austin share his love of Claire Danes (and her tears.) Thank you for listening, and please enjoy!

The trio discusses Jordan's improv history, the hints of horror in his comedy writing, and talk a surprising amount about Jurassic Park. Thank you for listening, and please enjoy!

They also take a Buzzfeed quiz revealing which Little Woman they each are. Thank you for listening, and please enjoy!

Thank you for listening, and please enjoy!

Frances Ha (2013) with Chisom Awachie 09 Mar 202101:29:09

The Cinema Bums are joined by Chisom Awachie to discuss Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach's first collaboration, Frances Ha! This film is all about being an artist struggling to make it in your late twenties, something none of our trio can relate to at all. They also discuss Adam Driver, Tyler Perry, and whether every cat needs a cat buddy. Tune in to hear Emmet take issue with the Manic Pixie Dream Girl, Wade ponder what it is like to date someone rich, and Chisom describe her constant second hand embarrassment on Frances's behalf. The virtually-recorded audio may sound strange at the beginning, but give it a few moments for your ears to adjust and we'll be off to the races. Thank you for listening, and please enjoy!

Nights and Weekends (2008) with Ashlyn Uribe 02 Mar 202101:16:37

The Cinema Bums are joined by Ashlyn Uribe to break down Greta Gerwig's final mumblecore film: Nights and Weekends! The trio discuss long-distance relationships and reconnecting with your exes in this fun chat. They also dive deep into some refreshments, as you can hear from the ice cubes clattering in the background of the entire episode. We sincerely apologize for that. Something about watching this movie just made us thirsty. Tune in to hear Emmet sing the Naked Brothers Band, Wade get all of his MVP picks stolen from him, and Ashlyn play a thrilling game of "Greta Gerwig or Greta Thunberg?" Thank you for listening, and please enjoy!

The New Mutants (2020) with Patrick J. Turner, Jr. 16 Feb 202101:26:17

The Cinema Bums are joined by Patrick J. Turner, Jr. to tackle the final movie in the X-Men series: The New Mutants! That's right, the Bums have finally done it - this is the last X-Men movie they ever have to watch, and also the first one Patrick has ever seen! This film is truly wild, but it has an important message to share with the world: that everyone has two bears inside of them. Listen in to hear Emmet fangirl out over Anya Taylor-Joy's Russian mean girl performance, Wade relay his Behind the Scenes Drama magnum opus, and Patrick predict this year's Oscar winners. Thank you for listening, and please enjoy!

Dark Phoenix (2019) with Beth Fletcher 09 Feb 202101:15:21

The Cinema Bums are joined again by Beth Fletcher to finish what she continued: the Decades Quadrology! That's right - our trio has become the first three people in history to ever watch Simon Kinberg's directorial debut Dark Phoenix. Listen in to hear Emmet attempt to start an online movement to Release the Kinberg Cut, Wade analyze the deeply subtle symbolism in this very deep movie, and Beth pitch an alternative ending utilizing a French cover of Semisonic's "Closing Time." Thank you for listening, and please enjoy!

Deadpool 2 (2018) with Laura Bennett 02 Feb 202101:24:22

The Cinema Bums are joined by Laura Bennett for another go-around with the wise-cracking, bad-acting, wildly-popular, facepalm-inducing Deadpool! If you saw any X-Men movie, it is statistically most likely to be this one. The Behind the Scenes Drama on this sequel is thick, and the reactions to it from the Bums are all over the place. Along the way, they are paid a surprise visit by the Academy Awards themselves, and they end things with a thrilling game of "Deadpool or Shakespeare?". Listen in to hear Wade geek out about the cast of David Leitch's upcoming Bullet Train, Emmet reckon with the loss of his beloved Morena Baccarin, and Laura add Ryan Reynolds to the dreaded "Not Hot List." Thank you for listening, and please enjoy!

Logan (2017) with Kelly Lee 26 Jan 202101:27:13

The Cinema Bums are joined by Kelly Lee for the big one: Logan!  This brutal Western was critically acclaimed, widely beloved by viewers, and remains the only superhero film ever nominated for a screenplay Academy Award.  It is also a hard R-rated movie where, as Emmet points out, "the violence is very violent."  This rewatch finds one of the Bums appreciating the movie's merits in a newfound way and another turning heel and shutting down merely from watching it.  Listen in to see who you side with, as well as to hear Emmet sing the praises of His Dark Materials, Wade unravel the mystery of the Corn Puffs, and Kelly provide some very interesting plugs.  Thank you for listening, and please enjoy!

X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) with Beth Fletcher 19 Jan 202101:18:29

The Cinema Bums are joined by director extraordinaire Beth Fletcher to discuss X-Men: Apocalypse, the widely reviled film which Emmet declares "the greatest movie ever made."  The longest and least-coherent entry in the longest and least-coherent superhero series leaves Wade dazed and confused and Beth refusing to rate it either a Flop or a Bop.  Listen in to hear Emmet describe watching the entirely unrelated movie Nightcrawler while waiting for the X-Men to show up, Wade mourn his favorite actor Oscar Isaac's Hamburgler-esque performance in this film, and Beth find out live on the air about both the director of Dark Phoenix and about "frogmen."  There are some audio issues for the first five minutes, but after that everything is an easy breezy time.  Thank you for listening, and please enjoy!

Deadpool (2016) with Chandler Pennington 12 Jan 202101:25:06

The Cinema Bums are joined by Chandler Pennington in a significantly censored episode to unpack the infamously uncensored Deadpool.  This film was highly controversial at the time and leaves the Bums divided even today.  Luckily, Chandler has come to defend Deadpool's honor and extoll the virtues of R-rated movies - even ones you awkwardly watch with your parents.  Listen in to hear Emmet risk it all for a Fawlty Towers reference, Wade walk through the entire plot of Finding Dory, and Chandler give a ranking of every notable British actor's accent.  It all wraps up with playing a round of that classic game: "Deadpool or Hot Tub Time Machine?"  Thank you for listening, and please enjoy!

X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) with Zane Hollomon 05 Jan 202101:54:50

In a super-sized New Year's Special, the Cinema Bums are joined by Zane Hollomon to discuss the time-traveling, timeline-correcting halfway point of the X-Men series: Days of Future Past.  The Continuity Corner is renovated into the Continuity Condo for this episode, as the Bums spend a huge amount of time and effort trying to make sense of just what actually happens in this movie and what it means for the franchise going forward.  Listen in to hear Wade find out about the Super Bowl Robots, Emmet explain Structuralist Linguistics, and Zane reveal a surprise gift from Wade's past.  It's fair to say things get off the rails a bit in this one.  Thank you for listening, and please enjoy!

Holiday Special: Our Favorite Films of 2020 with Kelly Lee and Laura Bennett 29 Dec 202001:29:48

The Cinema Bums are joined for a fun, loosey goosey Holiday Special by the Roommate Bums, Kelly Lee and Laura Bennett!  There are no X-Men in sight this week as the gang raises a toast to the year in movies that was.  In the first section of the podcast, the Bums discuss missing movie theaters, why so much Broadway came to the big screen, and dare to ask the question: did Disney start COVID-19?  The majority of the podcast, however, is recommending our favorite films of the year and where you can watch them.  It's perfect for the holiday break and the long January coming up!  We guarantee there is a new movie for everyone to be found here.  Listen in to hear Emmet gush about Sonic the Hedgehog, Wade get lost for words trying to describe John David Washington's shoulder muscles, Laura prioritize the Sharkboy and Lavagirl sequel over Christmas Day, and Kelly utter the phrase "the sad beating on of life" (that's not a joke.)  Thank you for listening to the first year of Cinema Bums, and please enjoy!

The Wolverine (2013) with Isaac Beckner 22 Dec 202001:18:18

The Cinema Bums are joined by Isaac Beckner for a trip to Japan! The Wolverine, James Mangold's 2013 dry run for Logan, is all about parkour and built with the Bechdel Test in mind. Listen as Emmet desperately tries to keep the show on the rails while Wade runs through all of Darren Aronofsky's films and Isaac speculates about what he's getting for Christmas. The Bums also discuss Yukio, Wade's favorite character in the entire series, rank Mariko's three boyfriends, and finally ask that age old question: what kind of underwear does Wolverine wear? This is the first episode we've recorded virtually so we apologize if the audio is not quite up to the gold standard we aim for every time. More of a weighty bronze, perhaps, or a heavy metal. Thank you for listening, and please enjoy!

Holiday Special: Our Favorite Films of 2022 with Laura Bennett 27 Dec 202201:49:25

The Cinema Bums are joined by Laura Bennett to discuss their favorite new releases of 2022! On this Holiday Special, our trio walks through the year in film, crowns the best in horror, evaluates the state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and recommends a gigantic amount of new movies all while developing a brand new (chopped up) rating scale. Tune in to hear Wade take a ride on the AmbuLAnce, Laura contemplate Minions bedsheets, and Emmet finally declare it morbin' time. Thank you for listening, and please enjoy!

X-Men: First Class (2011) with Ahna Demaro 15 Dec 202001:28:42

The Cinema Bums are joined by the talented and lovely Ahna Demaro for a collective thirst watch of 2011's prequel reboot X-Men: First Class. This film is considered the high water mark of the series, and it started the careers of Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, and Nicholas Hoult - but does it hold up today? Tune in to hear Wade break down the most metal aspects of this movie, Emmet's book report on the Cuban Missle Crisis, and Ahna explain the true meaning of love and how it applies to both Charles and Erik AND her and Nicholas Hoult. This is a fun one, folks. Thank you for listening, and please enjoy!

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) with Treason 08 Dec 202001:28:49

The Cinema Bums are joined by their first-ever guest: Treason!  The infamous memester hops on to discuss this infamous meme of a movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine.  This film has it all: Ryan Reynold's first appearance as Deadpool, a young Troye Sivan as Baby Wolverine, an absurd amount of helicopters, Hugh Jackman's naked buns, Vietnam war crimes, Will.I.Am as Lil Nas X, high Jane Austen melodrama, and a comedic subplot where Wolverine moves in with a kindly old couple on their farmhouse.  Not to mention Emmet's favorite actor, Liev Schreiber, running on all fours.  Listen to the Stockholm Syndrome set in as the Bums try to figure out if there are any good prequels, why Hollywood was trying so hard to make Taylor Kitsch a thing, and how Wolverine's name inexplicably changes from Jimmy to Logan.  Thank you for listening, and please enjoy.

X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) 01 Dec 202001:28:17

The Cinema Bums finish up the original X-Men trilogy with The Last Stand, a film so famously horrible that the rest of the series is defined by its legacy.  The Bums break their own brains trying to parse through the two dueling storylines at play and figure out why third movies are so hard to get right.  Elsewhere, listen as Wade recounts a fateful sleepover encounter, Emmet cancels the Oscars, they both desperately try to find any character motivation whatsoever, and Halle Berry finally gets her moment in the spotlight.

This episode was both recorded and released prior to Elliot Page coming out as transgender.  We here at Cinema Bums are huge fans of Elliot's, for continually pushing the film industry forward and continually being good in these terrible X-Men movies (as you will hear in the episode.)  We all apologize for the outdated misgendering recorded in the episode.  Thank you for listening, and please enjoy!

X2 (2003) 24 Nov 202001:23:08

The Cinema Bums are back to talk about the famous classic The Empire Strikes Ba- uh, we mean, X2!  Listen in as best friends Wade and Emmet try to avoid offending dozens with their examination of this 2003 blockbuster's status as one of the best films of all time.  Emmet also rails against the MCU, much to Wade's horror, and both of the Bums go off on little brother snitch Ronnie, who they have nothing good to say about.  The Bums are starting to get a handle on this whole podcasting thing, despite the entire minute they spend trying to remember their own e-mail address.  Thank you for listening - especially if you're tuning back in - and please enjoy!

X-Men (2000) 17 Nov 202001:30:15

The Cinema Bums try their hand at podcasting by delving into the longest-running and least coherent cinematic universe: X-Men!  In their first-ever episode, best friends Wade and Emmet stumble into such light and frothy topics as Bryan Singer's sexual abuse allegations, the racial history of the Best Actress Oscar, and Dougray Scott's fateful motorcycle accident.  Nevertheless, it's a fun chat, as Wade walks us through the seemingly endless troubled production history of this movie, and Emmet walks us through his seemingly endless attraction to blue people.  Thank you for listening, and please enjoy!

P.S. We know that Bohemian Rhapsody came out in 2018, not 2019.  We're very sorry for the error.  Please don't @ us.

Wendell and Wild (2022) 20 Dec 202201:08:21

After an unexpected hiatus, the Cinema Bums are back! We're kicking off our return to new weekly episodes with a discussion of the other Jordan Peele film of 2022, Wendell and Wild! This stop-motion Netflix movie comes from Henry Selick, director of The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline, which finds the Bums sharing what films scared them as children, trying to explain a very complicated plot, and updating their Jordan Peele rankings. Tune in to hear Wade share his love for Gabby Goat and Emmet dress up as the Cat in the Hat and rail against a pirate. (We're back, baby!) Thank you for listening, and please enjoy!

Jurassic World Dominion (2022) 14 Jun 202200:57:11

For their 100th episode, the Cinema Bums return to their Jurassic Park miniseries to discuss the newly released Jurassic World Dominion! Unfortunately, the movie is so bad that the studio refused to even put its title on the poster. The movie is so bad that Judd Apatow released a full-length parody of it before it was even released. The movie is so bad that Emmet might just like it. Tune in to hear Wade sidetrack on some Harry Potter hot takes and Emmet explain the sinister real-world inspiration behind this movie's ecological threats. Thank you for listening, and please enjoy!

Spider-Man 3 (2007) 24 May 202200:55:47

The Cinema Bums discuss Tobey Maguire's final meme of a movie, Sam Raimi's infamous Spider-Man 3. This film prompts several questions: Why does it have five different villains? Why is it two and a half hours long? Most disturbingly, why is dancing down the street in an all-black suit the best performance of Tobey's entire acting career? Tune in to hear Wade reveal an obscure fact about Sandman and Emmet speculate that this film may have been directly responsible for the Great Recession. Thank you for listening, and please enjoy!

Spider-Man 2 (2004) 17 May 202200:53:39
