Starrcade was the WCW version of Wrestlemania. The First one was in 1983, and 10 years later at the 11th show, here we are. We will be honest, for a 10th anniversary show, it was a bit strange, but there was a HUGE amount going on within WCW at the time behind the scenes, so they get a pass. Changes in management, British bulldog disappearing, and the main event changing last minute due to an incident between 2 wrestlers that took place in good old England! Regardless of the issues it still had some great moments. Missy Hyatt being an amazing heel manager, another great heel performance by a favourite of ours Lord Steven Regal, an eventful and at times brutal main event, and the incredible Ravishing Rick Rude as a World Champion that history forgot! Welcome to Episode 23 of our wrestling podcast Chat Grapple and Cheap Pops!! We are Chris Dread and Jordan (JB) In Episode 23 we review the 2nd Annual WWF King of The Ring Tournament from 1994. This King of The Ring has some pretty good matches from start to finish. They all could have been a bit longer, but they were all pretty good. The Tournament was jam packed with the biggest stars of the time. Bam Bam Bigalow, Razor Ramon, IRS, Mabel, Jeff Jarrett, The 123 Kid, Tatanka and The Rocket Owen Hart. Alongside the Tournament there was also a decent title match for the WWF Championship with Champion vs Champion. WWF Champ Bret Hart Vs Intercontinental Champ Diesel. Diesel had The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels in his corner and Bret was yet to announce his mystery back up partner. The Main event is a strange one. 2 old school legends Jerry The King Lawler Vs Rowdy Roddy Piper. Lawler goaded Piper back into the ring after a 2 year absence. A bit of a miss placed main event, but the event as a whole was really great and well worth a re-watch, Its probably our favourite King EVER and the Coronation Ceremony is incredible! Welcome to Episode 22 of our wrestling podcast Chat Grapple and Cheap Pops!! We are Chris Dread and Jordan (JB) In Episode 22, as this is our Halloween special, we review WCW Halloween Havoc 1998. This event has quite a stacked card at first glance and has at least 3 matches that SHOULD have been, on paper, incredible matches. These matches are Brother Vs Brother with Steiner Vs Steiner, self described MORE than brother vs brother with The Outsiders, Hall and Nash, facing off, and finally the rematch of the century with Hollywood Hulk Hogan Vs The Warrior. Lets just say that they don't really match expectations. There are a few filler matches but also, some really good matches. A great match between Bret Hart and Sting, an opener between Raven and Chris Jericho and a great main event between Diamond Dallas Page and Goldberg. Welcome to Episode 21 of our wrestling podcast Chat Grapple and Cheap Pops!! We are Chris Dread and Jordan (JB) In Episode 21 we review our first ever TNA wrestling PPV. As many countries go into total lockdown, we have chosen the TNA annual event Lockdown from 2009. The Lockdown PPV features a card where every match takes place inside the TNA steel cage called The Six Sides of Steel. TNA at this time had a healthy mix of young up and coming and homegrown talent, as well as some very well established veterans. They had the Main Event Mafia stable which was comprised of Legends and Veterans such as Kurt Angle, Scott Steiner, Booker T, Kevin Nash, and the current TNA Heavyweight Champion and Icon Sting! On the opposing side of TNA there was the TNA Originals stable made up of the young guys who had basically started TNA and made it what it was today, Headed by TNA Founder Jeff Jarrett they had AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, and Samoa Joe. The Lethal Lockdown match with weapons would see the 2 stables go head to head and they had us thinking is Jeff Jarrett the veteran going to turn his back on the originals and join the mafia? The Main event would see champion Sting face off against the hardcore legend that is Mick Foley, and on the way to that match we have a TNA knockout 4 way, a Dr Stevie Richards cameo, a great tag championship match and an opening X division match with a load of characters that are basically rip offs! what more could you want? WWF Wrestlemania 8 from 1992. Ric Flair at this point was absolutely on fire. He was white hot in the WWF and it came at a point when the man who WAS the face of the company, Hulk Hogan, was looking to leave the wrestling business for a while to work on movies and other things. This Wrestlemania had lots of amazing promos, some very good matches and also the commentary team of Bobby Heenan and Gorilla were on top form all night. This Wrestlemania had it all. It had an amazing and bloody Intercontinental Match between Piper and Bret Hart, A high energy title match between Flair and Randy savage, the birth of the Heart Break Kid Shawn Michaels, and a classic promo from the LOD. Welcome to Episode 19 of our wrestling podcast Chat Grapple and Cheap Pops!! We are Chris Dread and Jordan (JB) In Episode 19 we review possibly one of the worst produced events WCW has ever put on. WCW NWO Souled Out from 1997. This event is pretty much a car crash from start to finish. But, because of that, it makes it almost compelling viewing. The whole event was supposed to be a showcase of how much in control of WCW the NWO were. They were the commentators, cheating referee, and abusive announcer. They also held every belt that was available and they were on the line tonight. They also were attempting to crown Miss NWO. They held a live beauty contest between matches like a Miss World but, well, lets just say they didn't quite come up to great standards with the contestants or the production. Although this show is widely spoken about as possibly one of the worst events WCW ever produced, we enjoyed reviewing it and we strongly suggest that people watch the event themselves as it is so bad it was actually quite good. An absolute show stealer of a match between Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho, a great title match main event between 2 wrestling greats in Brock Lesnar vs Kurt Angle, the grudge match of the century between the 2 men who created Wrestlemania itself In Mr McMahon vs Hulk Hogan, and what would be a retirement match and the final match of a 3 match series between the 2 men who took wrestling and the WWF / WWE to new heights....Stone Cold Steve Austin vs The Rock. Add to this Miller Light Catfight Girls fighting with Playboy models, news of Goldbergs return, a triple threat tag team match for the titles and Limp Bizkit, and you have what many call the greatest Wrestlemania EVER. This Wrestlemania is a classic and a must watch for any wrestling fan. Welcome to Episode 17 of our wrestling podcast Chat Grapple and Cheap Pops!! We are Chris Dread and Jordan (JB) In Episode 17 we review ECW Cyberslam from 1996. This is PART 2 of our 2 part BRIAN PILLMAN SERIES. After being fired from WCW for his antics during the PPV Superbrawl 6 (covered in our last episode number 16) Brian Pillman shows up just 6 days later in the Philadelphia Bingo Hall, home of Extreme Championship Wrestling, ECW. His loose cannon character would continue to raise hell here, and the fans LOVED IT......at first. Brian Pillman wasn't the only crazy thing going on at this event though, its was a classic early ECW PPV full of madness and brutal X-Rated action. It had a gruelling TV title match between the madman SABU and 2 Cold Scorpio, a crazy inter-gender dog collar match, Cactus Jack, and the crazy but brilliant Italian Stallion J T Smith, and all of this on top of The Loose Cannon Brian Pillman threatening to whip his privates out while simultaneously screaming at the 'smart marks'. This PPV is a classic and a must watch for any wrestling fan. Welcome to Episode 16 of our wrestling podcast Chat Grapple and Cheap Pops!! We are Chris Dread and Jordan (JB) In Episode 16 we review WCW Superbrawl 6 from 1996. This is PART 1 of our 2 part BRIAN PILLMAN SERIES. Drama and controversy surrounding Pillman and his Loose Cannon Character at this time was HUGE. This was a time when WCW had signed the superstar Hulk Hogan and it seemed everything that was going on in their shows and TV revolved around him and the Dungeon of Doom stable Headed by Booker Kevin Sullivan.....this wasn't necessarily a good thing. This show isn't the greatest show but it does have its high points, which mainly involve Ric Flair and Woman (Nancy Sullivan and later Nancy Benoit) The Flair Vs Savage Title match SHOULD have been the main event but, as usual, The Hogan effect twinned with Kevin Sullivan meant that it was pushed down the card....but judge for yourself by watching the PPV and see what YOU think. Episode 17 will be PART 2 of This BRIAN PILLMAN SERIES and will be a review of the ECW PPV CyberSlam 1996 featuring the man himself. Probably one of the most hectic and high paced WCW ever! This PPV was at a time when the NWO were done and dusted, and the creative minds of Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo tried something different to try and boost ratings and buyrates to what they were during the NWO boom. This PPV was the beginning of the New Blood VS The Millionaires Club era. All Title belts were vacated and new champions would be crowned at this event, Spring Stampede 2000. We really enjoy this PPV, and we have a laugh and a joke about its quirkiness. It may not be the best PPV ever, but it was massively entertaining for sure.
