531 - Tube based Pedals, Tuna Fuzz, and On-stage Punch ups18 Sep 202401:02:58

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 531 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - Tube based Pedals, Tuna Fuzz, and On-stage Punch ups

We have a rare musical treat as Brian and Blake serenade our listeners with a country ode to one of Brian's most favorite substances in the world...no not that one...or that one. He got a flat tire and Richard is shocked at his lack of preparation and surprised by a pedalboard with wheels. Richard has also received a brand new pedal and he is very excited by it despite is gargantuan size.

Richard will be going to the ball! Yes - there is Gilmour news - he can’t contain himself or his vast knowledge of American geography. Brian destroys all his hopes and dreams. Deservedly so too. The guys got a sneak peak at the new Neural DSP Nano Cortex Modeler and chat about it and also the new update to the baby Line 6 pedal. There is unlimited confusion.

Fender have released a new amplifier in conjunction with Jack White and the guys check it out and are suitably impressed. Would you buy an extended warranty for your gear? The chaps discuss a new concept that Fender seem to be playing with and Brian makes an announcement. There was quite a well covered dispute on stage this week as the members of Janes Addiction threw punches so we close with a brief look at that.

Claus Grabke, Quality inventions, Omega 3s, Simon Pegg, Hillbilly activities, the Oliverb...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

530 - Brian checks in with uncle Brad and is this the ultimate portable practice rig?11 Sep 202400:55:30

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 530 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - Brian checks in with uncle Brad and is this the ultimate portable practice rig?

Brian is in cowboy mode and Blake tells us about his cattle rustling days. Brian tells us about how someone he know likes to try and wrestle sedentary bovine creatures - yes you read that correct. Richard is suspicious. Richard also has views about the new David Gilmour Album, Luck and Strange, and he can't wait to tell us. Brian is not thrilled. But it leads onto an interesting conversation about acrobatics vs feel in guitar playing.

There was other big news in the music world with the re-emergence of Linkin Park and the guys have a lot of views about this - especially Blake who grew up on their music - and it spins into an interesting and candid conversation about music in general. Somehow the Doors are involved too. The Wampler Tumnus got a little acclaim in a publication and the guys debate this and the mechanics of commercial songwriting.

Richard has tales of woe and, err, stagnant Guinness and regales us with his germ ridden views and does not invent anything at all. Brian takes an important call from a certain legend of the guitar and goes to an intimate concert and eats world beating hot fudge cake. Finally there is some massive gear news - and Richard is excited.

Blue Bloods, Rockonteurs, Vince Gill, The Wets, Gibson Victory...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

521 - Brian invents the greatest guitar app ever and it's all Greek to me...10 Jul 202401:01:01

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 521 of the Chasing Tone Podcast

Announcement: We are now in real time! We have decided to try and record the show and put it out the same week so we can be on the cutting edge of breaking news - hang on to your hats.

Richard has been away on his vacation and has some tales to tell, but starts off with a debate about vinyl collecting...Meanwhile Brian has been on a live-stream with the intellectual giants behind Two notes and Neural Amp Modeler. He has a good case from why Amp Modeling could be a great tool for all gigging musicians.

Brian has a brilliant business idea based on his compressor woes and shares his genius ideas with us all. Meanwhile Fender have launched their new Player II range of guitars and our good buddy Travis Feaster got to be part of the launch so we talk about that before looking at some more band practice woes.

Blake ducks out early because apparently he like his job, so Brian and Richard fumble on through the subjects...and Brian becomes audibly aroused at a new Gibson special edition.  This turns into a discussion about how good quality guitar gear is so much more affordable these days and then Richard inadvertently gives Brian a new idea and immediately regrets it. Brian then invents the greatest app ever.

The Grecian toe, Crab Amps, Chord dis-remembrance, Gorilla amps, Pedalboard choices, Power supply knowledge...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

Thanks to all our supporters - you are awesome! Except that one guy. Only kidding - just wanted to see if anyone read this bit...

431 - Chris Shiflett (of Foo Fighters fame) talks gear!19 Oct 202200:59:02

Brian, Blake, and Richard are joined by a special guest this week,  Chris Shiflett of the Foo Fighters, for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

We have an extra special guest this week and Brian may or may not fanboy a little bit. It is of course Chris Shiflett who is a monster player with a huge back catalogue of work - including playing in one of Brian's favorite bands, the Foo Fighters. Chris has some very cool new music coming out and also has his own podcast, Walking The Floor, and we talk about some of his escapades including a rare first hand peek into international tour bus life.

Chris is a super nice dude, and his stories are absolutely fascinating. The guys talk about how Blake first discovered his music. They also go deep into Chris' love of classic rock and roll, and country music, and the influences that drove him to explore country based rock further. The guys then go right back to Chris' roots and his teenage years and find out all about his earliest tastes and influences and his signature Fender guitar. Conversation turns to his different rigs and then pedals...Brian may have found his new happy place amongst all this Foo tinged pedal talk.

Chris has an idea for a custom delay pedal, and gives the guys an entertaining demonstration, and it just so happens Brian knows a guy. As well as being a fantastic player and all round legend, Chris loves football, sorry "soccer", and Richard and he share a love for the same football team so speak in what Blake and Brian can only describe as a completely foreign language. Brian's head spins, and he has fallen in love with one of Chris' solo songs "Born & Raised" so plays a little clip which instantly wins Blake over too. Right at the end Chris gives us some absolute golden insights into his songwriting process which is worth the admission fee itself.

This is a special episode and the team hope you enjoy it and would like to say a huge thanks to Chris for coming on - go check out his new music!

There may be a swear or two in this but heck - that's rock and roll baby!

Van Life, Thierry Henry, The Stone Roses, Glaser mods, Panning Tremelo, Custom Chris Shiflett Delay pedal, Mopey minor keys...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

Check out Chris Shiflett's music here and his Podcast Here and look for him on TikTok, kids!

430 - Captain Through-hole and the Corksniffers of time 12 Oct 202200:47:01

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Due to events beyond worldly control the team are recording back to front and it throws them off balance immediately; and Blake admits to a concert first that has pleased him greatly.  One of the largest brands in guitars has released a new range of pedals and the guys have an in-depth look without actually seeing anything other than a few pr snippets. We never promised accuracy! But we do promise moronic pedal names and designs.

Richard speculates about mini pedals that Wampler Pedals may be developing and Brian makes some alarming revelations before telling us of that one time he had dinner with Paul reed Smith. Again. Brian released a video about the Mostortion circuit and how he would redesign it and slightly laments the performance of his nerdiest video to date (possibly*).

Do you buy guitar magazines anymore? The guys question the relevance of the printed format in todays increasingly online world. They also look at the research that indicates that men learn extreme metal solos just to impress other heterosexual men. There's also a hint about an upcoming guest...

The Earl of Languages, Spray extravaganza, Turkey hunting, Crabmeat pedals...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

429 - Are the days of the cheap Boss pedal over?05 Oct 202200:56:22

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Richard has developed a new system to improve fluidity of speech and it is roundly ignored by Brian and Blake before they immediately start talking about a new five-mode goat-based fuzz pedal that isn't made by Wampler. Outrageous! This leads the guys down many bizarre rabbit holes including Richard's handedness confusion before they all freak out in a moonage daydream while discussing the new Bowie bio-pic-o-docu-film.

Would you be disappointed if you went to see a live act and it was just a singer and a backing track? There was some controversy in the UK when a famous lead singer performed a kind of pimped out Dad karaoke (according to some) and the guys chat about this before Brian serenades us with his sweet, sweet voice...and Richard tells us why he is about to go metal thrashing mad.

Blake is pumped to go and see My Chemical Romance, is worried about wiring harness security,  and we learn a bit about why Elmo knows everything.  This leads into a discussion about the cost of used pedals in the market today and particularly with price of Boss pedals and the currency market.  Brian has had a listener email relating to DIY pedal pcbs and the guys talk about it in an almost on-topic section.

Cursive cursing, Burly mice, Eric Clapton's air guitar, Anthrax, The multi DB-plus-u-ron, The Wampler Gold Stone, The Jeff Beck hookup...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

428 - Do we need more Wampler fuzzes?28 Sep 202200:45:41

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Richard talks too much and this has been officially published to the interwebs so we immediately turn to making Brian feel all warm and fuzzy via entirely legal means and debating whether or not we are indeed the wisened Grandpappys of the Podcast world. Josh Scott did some analysis on Sweetwater's pedal sales and their best selling pedal may take you by surprise so the guys talk about this also and this turns into a brief investigation into the origins of said pedal.

Brian then takes Richard through some basic electronics schooling and he learns him good....Warning - you may also learn about pedals in this episode. Richard also uncannily predicts the latest Walrus fuzz pedal a week before he knew about it and fungibles weren't even involved.

Would you watch a hologramatic representation of a band?  Richard poses the question on the back of his better half seeing the new Abba tribute show and the subject is expanded and depated somewhat. Well that is until Brian announces that he desires a working light saber and Blake offers some very good advice about emails. Richard has observations about portable rigs for music, and Brian's night time dancing habits are examined in detail..and then it gets even sillier as the guys discuss what their X-Wing call signs should be.  Oh boy, I did warn you!

Andre the Giant, Fuzz salad, Naval Lazers, IOS 16 saves your job,  Toto on the strings, The Divorce Party...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

427 - Is Rock Making a Comeback?21 Sep 202200:57:39

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Blake is not in the Shred Shed today because he is saving the planet and Richard refuses to rap on microphone and instead speaks briefly about the rather monumental events in his own country. Meanwhile, Brian finds a way to turn this to George Lynch, and Blake brings up a related fact about Adrian Thorpe of the mighty Thorpy FX that you may or may not know.

EHX have taken the concept of a pedal with a plugin to the next level with their new hybrid Big Muff pedal which promises a kind of seamless transition between hardware and software output - so the guys poke around this with the abandon of a bored schoolchild. Richard has a genius idea to build something thats already been invented and Brian improves it before destroying everyone's hopes and dreams once again.

Brian gets forced onto facebook for a nanosecond and you can actually witness the moment his brain melts in real time while Richard and Blake discuss typographical legends and the legendary fonts of doom. Is rock music making a comeback? There are some signs that it may be and the guys talk about that before Brian teaches us some of his amazing zen-like tactics for casino success.

Purple dye, Free 7 Day Metaverse trial, Mac Zakkerberg, The Guitar Summit, Richard's LEGO hell, Chuggy Elements, The idiot rinser...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

426 - Brian Wampler's Flying Breadboard Workshop14 Sep 202200:57:54

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Richard has "Borrowed" a vintage 1963 Fender Stratocaster and he tells us about it - there are some surprising differences with modern Strats that he has uncovered so the guys chat about vintage guitars and that special magic they can exude.  This also leads on to a fascinating and enlightening discussion about switch positions and Brian refuses to listen to Richard's utterly flawed logical fallacies so gets hard evidence to finally prove Richard is indeed a massive fool.

Brian wants a giant tractor and a private plane and a plot is hatched to make this happen...maybe...ok it got silly real quick.  There was a massive tribute concert to Taylor Hawkins and the guys chat about it - it was emotional, and there were guitars involved. There was also a very special performance from Wolfgang Van Halen and it pleased the guys greatly.

Brian has serpentine problems in the shape of a water snake and the guys ponder over potential solutions to this problem which is consuming the fishery livestock of Martinsville. Richard is concerned about the barbarism in Brian's approach to despatching his unwanted guest so explores alternatives.  Meanwhile, Blake introduces us to the king of the methedestrians while Brian admits that he has the brain of a small tree dwelling rodent...

425 - This episode is full of tone 07 Sep 202200:52:09

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Welcome to the all new lag-free world of Blake! Richard is asking for donations for the purchase of a certain guitarist's sea front house and Brian is quick to give him sound financial advice.  This leads on to the mention of a certain pedal company that had some leaked news come out and the guys decide to chew it over...yes we are talking about Fulltone

Starting with some historical context, and Brian's bizarre requests for wearing costumes, the guys take a look at where the industry began, in the context of this particular company, and some of the early companies that shaped it - if only there was some form of documentary that could assist. Wild speculation and historical inaccuracies may ensue - you have been warned.

After a small Jazz interlude Blake breaks down some of his favorite pedals from Fulltone and Brian shares some of his insights too before we look at the insane price gouging on the interwebs. Josh Scott released a video asking the question "Is Boutique Dead?" on the back of the Fulltone news and the guys also look into this and also what it really means to be "Made in America".

The movie about effects pedals, Pledians, Conjecture and legal disclaimers, Four year climate, The Blake dip, Brian's soldering helmet...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

424 - The universe conspires against us!31 Aug 202200:47:44

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Blake believes the Universe is conspiring against him because he dared to have a good time and he tells us all about the awesome Pedal hangout he went to and the various foods he sampled on the way.  He returned to find all was not well in the shred shed and this then leads into a conversation about quirky British words.

Is Brian becoming more puritanical in his old age? We ponder this deep and meaningful philosophical question with all the scrutiny of a bored teenager and move swiftly on to BMX and Electric Scooter talk. At some point we may talk about guitar stuff again.  But first - Banger Racing!

Brian also confesses to his Guitar based Dungeons and Dragons childhood tomfoolery and Richard wonders if he has been writing hit Netflix shows. He's also noticed a bit of a price hike on certain Fender guitars and puzzles over what this means for the guitar industry.

423 - Its all about the Boost, baby! 24 Aug 202200:51:47

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Blake has mahoosive internet lag so the guys are beset by a whole new level of latency -  apologies for the 40,000ms of delay you may experience from the Oregon connection.  Richard reveals that he is inexperienced in another area of American culture and Brian sighs himself to death whilst the guys attempt to discuss the new JHS Solo boost.

Richard spotted the new fender Kingfish artist model and it causes quite a reaction from the crew and Brian invents the first smellable paint finish for guitar pedals. This causes some in-fighting and Brian brings out the spray multiple times to keep the filthy language down to a minimum while Richard ponders if he is once again in a simulation.

There was some controversy about a Kickstarter funded modular guitar and without any expertise or knowledge of the situation the guys weigh in with unqualified and unsubstantiated nonsense.  There are puns, there are bad bits, there are funny bits. No apologies are given. Then Brian tells us about his battle against Mother Nature and it is a story you will not want to miss.

422 - Invasion of the guitar17 Aug 202200:45:07

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Blake introduces us to the Wyland car bomb, something that may or may not be illegal in 14 states, and instructs us on the special methods he employs when it is in play. Richard has fallen in love with Jazzmasters and Blake tells him I told you so in a much nicer way than if the tables were turned.  This eventually turns into a conversation about Squier's 40th Anniversary range via ridiculous torque wrench pressure measurements.

Richard then tries terribly to retell the story of "Trigger's Broom" as an analogy but gets nowhere fast whist accusing Blake of reading classical greek literature and Brian purges his cache live on air. There's been some industry news from Fender with a  number of layoffs changes and the guys discuss this and the ramifications for the industry and the consumer.

There have been some interesting new stats around the consumption of "New Music" versus "Old Music"  and the guys dig into the implied consequences not just for music but also culture in general.  This then expands on to predictions for the future of music and possible use of AI. Brian also makes a little apology before repeating himself.

520 - The Birthday Roast of Brian Wampler and new guitar day!03 Jul 202400:56:26

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 520 of the Chasing Tone Podcast

Our glorious leader has reached a milestone birthday and the chaps kick off by looking back at the Roast video that the team at Wampler put together for him. Richard notes an interesting horological coincidence and Brian gives us his views on aging. In a twist of pure Irony, Brian is struggling to find a compressor, and the guys listen to his tales of woe.

Have you got any Tube based drive pedals? In a bizarre twist of fate Brian has decide to educate Richard on the best way to get the "Classic" David Gilmour tone and there is some ill advised political commentary as Richard reviews a recent piece of marketing from a political party. Blake has had some unexpected musical adventures and tells us all about it.

Richard has taken delivery of a lifetime's supply of spices and Brian has a request. He also went to see Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets with his schoolfriend and gave pedals to the band. This leads onto a discussion about a very high end delay pedal that commands a premium price. There is a very scary AI credit read from RoboBrian.

421 - The Wampler Moxie - It's New Pedal Time!10 Aug 202200:56:17

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Wampler Pedals have announced the new Moxie overdrive pedal and it makes sounds! Lots of different sounds! Well, according to Blake anyhow. Brian explains the topology of the circuit to a somnambular Blake and an ever sarcastic Richard. Did anyone mention John Mayer?  Brian then goes into the modifications in detail before Blake brings the conversation to food  again and Richard talks a bit about origins of the name and the graphics for the pedal.

Richard signed up for the Dall E Ai image generator and he is mightily impressed and tells us of his early exploits creating foolish imagery of limited use. Brian has finally decided to go Wireless so tells us all about it. He's also been playing around with his Captor X a fair bit too, he has a lot of views, and has found some sounds that thrill him greatly so he flexes his EQ perfecting abilities.

There are a few shocks as the guys analyse some data about the top touring artists in the world - mainly that Richard hasn't heard of half of them.  Brian has a story about a guitar center in Sarasota. Blake has a strategy to help.  Richard wants a hurdy gurdy.

Wizardry, Brian likes guitar tone stuff, Fatswichs, Wingsuits, Thats a big number, Corn per month...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

420 - Richard changes his name...well this is awkward03 Aug 202201:06:24

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

It seems that a certain British gentleman made a rather unfortunate mistake in the misty haze of the morning after, and he explains his calamitous schoolboy error in a single improvised monologue of utter idiocy. He will never live this down - well not while Brian and Blake draw breath at least. Richard makes up for this slightly by telling us about his Birthday where he decided to go roadtesting a few incredibly expensive guitars at Andertons.

Brian confesses that he is pickup stupid and then lets us in to a BIG secret about a guitar he may or may not have on order. Richard has finally bought a guitar, and yes it is that one, it is also one that Brian is disgusted by, and Blake insults his new purchase - or does he? Brian is also thinking about going wireless and talks a bit about his gigging setup and then of course the talk morphs into a bacon based discussion.

Blake's been playing with a new Tube Screamer and he likes it. Yes you read that right, a Tube Screamer that Blake likes. Brian is curious about the unique features of the circuitry and so Blake breaks this down in great detail and Brian goes into a deep dive on tubescreamer circuits...and then we look at the Mike McCready exploding guitar video that one or two of you may have seen...

Flute effects, Expensive guitars, Brent Mason, Subliminal ASMR, Tappety Tap sensors, Sausage or Bacon...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

419 - Brian's got a whole new reason to buy more Telecasters27 Jul 202200:54:47

Brian, Richard, and Blake are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Brian has finally blown his top after a multitude of issues with software and so we have leapt from platform to platform like a team of skilled adventurers in an 80's arcade game. There is also BIG news from the Wampler Family and Brian breaks it down for you and you alone dear listener!

Blake was barely alive in the conventional sense of the word as we recorded this show but he is definitely on the mend as he explains about how he didn't go to a carpentry festival. Meanwhile Richard accidentally stumbles into more cuss word territory with his quaint cultural differences and frankly disturbing and bizarre language.

There is a controversial rock band reunion planned, you may have read about it on the internet on one or two pages,  and the guys definitely have views before inventing a brand new energy liquid based product...oh boy it gets silly...all whilst Richard melts as England swelters in record heat.

Bad Dad jokes, the lost episode, 10% mansweat and solder, Machine gun guitars, Data center failures, The video editing dungeon, Tina Maria...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

418 - The Micropig Overdrive and a podcast first!20 Jul 202200:56:22

Brian, Richard, and Blake are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Brian attempts to pay Richard a compliment but falls flat and then breaks out some devastating goat related news before the talk is returned to happier farm based topics such as pork rinds.  We are then treated to a blast of Black Sabbath 'a capella'  before Brian invents a new drinking game based around his love of prog rock.

Richard has finally pulled the trigger on a guitar that will definitely divide opinions and tells the guys about it.  Blake has bought a special bass. Brian gets aroused by a Les Paul and ignores the gorgeous Cabronita telecaster that the guys try to entice him with whilst expanding on his theories for the widdly widdlies.

Brian has a fantastic tip for keeping your pedals clean and Richard has been learning more about cabs and resistance versus amplifiers. Blake, however, has been prodding around the dark web and he is scared of what he found so the topic returns to pork based products and all is well as the guys come up with the greatest Indiana Jones sequel ever.

Porcine Fraudery, Blake loses his mind, Drop Q is the root of Brown noise, KISS, The 2 String bass, The circle of pork, Budget pedals, ...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

417 - Definitely the Worst Episode Ever...13 Jul 202200:59:43

Brian, Richard, and Blake are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

The guys are a little bit stressed, as they recorded this show, and then realised that thanks to changes in the software they use to record this, they had lost all of Blake's contribution, and so immediately had to re-record. So it's fair to say that their energy is a little weird and this show is offered with a warning to all listeners - it is of variable quality and anger levels. Welcome to the world of Buffoons!

Does expensive gear make you a better player? Richard has found something that made him challenge his conceptions before he was bought back round to normality by folk on the internet and Brian has to calm him down and explain how the internet works and Richard gets his Bruce Willis films completely mixed up. I warned you once, I will warn you again, this is a weird and hideous episode.

Guitar Kiosks! What! Yes its a thing and Brian has the low down on this new phenomenon but the guys remain sceptical about it. Richard then gets double schooled when he is forced to admit Metallica is bigger than his beloved Iron Maiden. If you listen close enough, the exact moment where he realises he is a complete idiot has been recorded for posterity. The guys then talk a bit about music sales in the last 100 years. Look, I can't warn you again, this is a terrible episode.

416 - Awesome plugins, those are words, and Brian shares his new regime 06 Jul 202200:51:39

Brian, Richard, and Blake are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Blake has been a travellin' and has tales of wonder and merriment for us all to enjoy, but first, wrestling talk! Yeaahhhh! Brian on the other hand has been ruminating over his musical discipline and has come up with a new plan to boost his creativity. Richard has a vision for a new law firm and it definitely sounds like a watertight plan.

Richard has been experimenting with the new Metaverse plugins in his DAW and has discovered that they are seriously handy, especially with other genres of music that he didn't expect.  He's also been swapping speakers to create the ultimate 8" mini cab and Brian thinks he has been a bit too cautious and maybe over-engineered the solution...If only he had someone who knew anything about audio electronics to hand to guide his foolish ways.

Blake has played through a large stack of amplifiers - or has he? The internet doesn't believe him, so and he and Brian are ready to show them the error of their assumptions before Blake experiences an extreme and confusing level of lag. Brian also admits to liking MIDI and this almost opens up a tear in the fabric of space and time.

415 - Enter the Metaverse and yet another Major announcement29 Jun 202200:46:35

Brian, Richard, and Travis are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Wait, what, Travis? Again? What the deuce? All shall be revealed in this episode with big BIG news from the gear world, while Portland Blake is away at the Sweetwater Gearfest hanging with all the cool kids and eating pedal shaped pizzas.

Wampler Pedals are super proud to have released the new Metaverse multi-delay pedal and the guys address some issues that they know are gonna come up before breaking down what the pedal is capable of and why Brian thinks it is a special pedal. We also talk about the origins, everyone falls asleep, Richard tries to explain things badly, and Travis gives us some feedback.

We've also released a full plugin suite to accompany the pedal and it is available free for anyone that registers a Metaverse. This is so meta we have already sent ourselves a cease and desist order from the future to make sure we litigate against ourselves pre-emptively. Wow - theres a lot of pedal content this week.  And it's all about one of our pedals. I need a lie down.

Travis has the most ridiculous luck with Guitars and this has materialised once more with what can only be called the biggest score since 1966. He already has a 64 strat, now he has extra bits, he deserves them though! Richard is making a silly little mini amp rig so tells us all about that and the guys talk about speaker choices.

414 - Rage against the farm machine, Stranger Things, and stop getting Bond wrong22 Jun 202201:00:29

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Richard finally caught the Covid, he obviously doesn't have enough MetalZones in his arm, and he has lost his taste completely...and thats why he now likes Bro Country...but apologies in advance for everything he says as some of his brain cells appear to have deteriorated. Brian's made a new Tik Tok and he is mightily upset that a certain someone hasn't watched it yet.

Unless you have been living under a rock, you may have seen that Kate Bush has climbed the charts  in various countries as a result of Stranger Things and Richard tests Brian's Kate Bush knowledge and unsurprisingly, it is lacking. There is Gilmour content...and Dokken rebuttals - you know the drill...and the discussion finally turns to gatekeeping, music, and internet folk.

Were you recently Rick Rolled by Blake? If so you may be entitled to compensation. Call 1-555-BLAKEROLL to claim your free piece of Oregon cheese as compensation. Please note cheese may have been partially eaten by the time you claim and no promise to deliver cheese is made. Have you got a guitar made out of food? Why not! The guys find a luthier that specialises in it and discuss this.

413 - Mick Ronson's reverb tricks and Brian May's awesome licks15 Jun 202200:50:01

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

What's kinda green and covered in lights? It's not a Christmas tree that's for sure. Brian has new toys and he has been analysing them in the manner that only Brian can and gives us his unadulterated views. Richard has learned a bit about early effects and is keen to share his findings like an over eager but slightly warped and demented puppy dog.

NAMM has happened and there have been so many gear releases that the guys struggle to talk about them all - but by golly they try - despite floppiness of aspiration. The dynamic this year was different so there is some earnest analysis of whether or not NAMM needs a rethink and Brian has an idea. Uh oh. Richard has had the saddest burger he ever ate and it made him very upset. Also, there are some rumors about a certain PRS guitar that Brian is very interested in...

Both Blake and Richard have been to see some live music and try to  tell us their tales but get waylaid multiple times on the way.  But eventually we get there, and Richard talks about his renewed love for Queen having seen them live in London and it's fair to say he was blown away, and as a result, he has bought some new gear...

Blake's moveable ceiling, I've got a plugin for that, Relic stickers, Plummaging, The two notes Gnome, Brian's release date faux pas ...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

412 - Introducing the Pedal Pryer! Also disturbing content and live Circuit Nerd mug reveal!08 Jun 202200:52:57

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Brian tells us how he wants to kill more trees but before he does he's gonna buy a cheap knock off James Burton telecaster while Richard contemplate's opening up his own version of Ali Express.  Elsewhere in the world of gear there has been the settling of an infamous law suit and the guys break this down into great and meticulous detail before figuring out they are all just as clueless as previously before Richard suggests a carpentry based solution.

Blackstar have released a new range of amplifiers with amazing lightweight designs and Richard is very confused about the type of wood it is made from. He also finds the electronics intriguing and Brian has to dig deep. Blake has been using some percussion techniques with an empty pedal box and tells us all about it whilst also doing the most disturbing impression we have ever featured on this show. You have been warned.

NAMM is happening! The guys talk about some of the changes they have noticed with the email marketing and wonder whether it has anything to do with the numbers of attendees. Blake has views! Richard has hook and loop nightmares. Brian has a standby mode?

519 - Why you should always record yourself playing... 27 Jun 202400:59:51

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 519 of the Chasing Tone Podcast

Ai has finally gone to far and we have an Ai version of Brian and it causes some emotional distress. Brian also has a rubber device. Richard tells us about his first experience with IRs and IEMs in a band practice scenario. It was a a partial success. Richard also has purchased new gear, has learned some important new lessons, and Brian continues to hellishly rebuke him.

We've had some really interesting suggestions for 1980's themed shredding guitars and Richard talks about some of the candidates and it provokes reactions from Brian. Brian then makes some gangland confessions. There's a new Fender artist Telecaster and it has caught the guys' attention so they talk about it before revealing some interesting statistical facts about Brian;'s pedalbuilding career.

What do you think about companies that make completely identical pedals to the original they're based on? There was a release this week that was close to home and the guys all have reactions. David Gilmour released a new track and Richard is a big fan. Take a shot. The guys had a message from the listeners about modern Country music and have some suggestions for artists to listen to.

The Karate Kid, Westone, Redline BMX, Big Mick, Waylon Jennings, Andy Wood...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

411 - Brian switches over to the Dark Side and is this the most expensive Gibson ever?01 Jun 202200:57:39

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Blake has been hanging out in Nashville and got to go visit the Gibson Garage with none other than Mark Agnesi himself - all thanks to a very generous hook up from one of the internet's fluffiest trolls - and he played a very valuable guitar. He also schools the double entendre dispatching Richard in some basic guitar construction history and gives us a bit of a look behind the scenes with some antiquities from Gibson's past.

Richard took his daughter to see My Chemical Romance and while he was not cool enough to watch the band, he did indulge in some fine Punjabi cuisine and it made him very very happy. He also asks the time honored question of which is harder to play - the drums or the guitar?  Brian and Blake have views and they share their experience.

Brian then drops the earth shattering news that he has gone to the Dark Side and is looking into some modelling options. Digital modelling, not fashion modelling I hasten to add. He's ordered a new toy and he has plans - is the world coming to an end? Is this the Bri-pocalypse? Or is this just the Mandela effect in action? There is only one way to find out...

410 - The Guitar Geek takeover and Richard meets one of his heroes 25 May 202200:53:31

Brian and Richard are joined this week by the Guitar Geek himself, Andy Ferris, for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

We welcome our good friend Andy Ferris this week as Blake has gone to move some heavy machinery in Nashville and so we find out about the Guitar Stories podcast which intriguingly, is about, stories related to the guitar. Meris have released a super cool looking pedal and the guys debate it - wait - thats almost on topic. There has also been a major announcement from Chase Bliss that the guys chew over and Andy gives us an interesting viewpoint or three.

Richard had an amazing experience at the recent Saucerful of Secrets gig where he got to meet one of his lifelong heroes, Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason, and some other fine folk and he is suitably dumbstruck and impressed with the musicianship, the show, and the aftershow party. Andy is now in a band too and he tells us all about the adventures of Black Velvet Creme whilst Richard fantasises about becoming the new Peter Grant whilst the guys also celebrate the English entry to the Eurovision song contest.

Brian asks Andy about his view on the guitar pedal industry and gets his take on the changes since the pandemic and some of the opportunities it opened up. This weeks Patreon also features Andy and a much more personal and in depth chat which we think you will really enjoy

409 - The Garth Brooks education experience and "that" thread18 May 202200:49:56

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Brian's been to a Country (and Western) gig and it has inspired bizarre vocal transformations and we apologize in advance as this goes immediately off the rails. There is some schooling, there is some fooling, but mainly there is some fooling. Brian the reveals a little bit of insight into his connection with one of Garth Brooks' amazing guitarists, Chris Leuzinger, and Richard is taught a little bit more about the finer points of Country and Western styling.

Should you ever meet your heroes? Richard asks the question and the guys chat about it before discussing the Grand Ole Opry and Wampler's own Elmo making his mark there.  Richard's also received his new Keeley Moon Op-Amp Fuzz and he is over the, er, moon with the results and waxes lyrical so the guys chat a little bit about Keeley pedals they love. He's also been buying Honey Picks and is a big fan so gives us his views on why they work for him and how they improve his playing.

There was a post on a popular internet forum that caused a little furore in the previous week which the guys feel duty-bound to discuss as it hit 40 pages before finally spiralling into oblivion...there is some cleaning up of myths in this bit too which may or may not be slightly ranty...and speaking of rants, its time for the next instalment of Brian's Camper experience...

408 - Metal Lords and the correct strategy for dealing with bobcats 11 May 202200:46:16

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Brian digs a hole immediately because the whole team is lacking in sleep and this derails into animal based nonsense early doors.  Richard recommended the movie "Metal Lords" to Brian and he kinda liked it. Blake is not convinced so the guys discuss why he needs to re-evaluate his life choices.

Brian's been rehearsing with his band and he is loving it but there is definitely an odorous side factor he hadn't bargained for.  He tells us a bit more about his love for G and B-Bender equipped guitars and we have an acoustic player recommendation from Blake.  Richard has been playing with the new Neural DSP Tone King and Soldano SLO-100 plugins in ProTools and he has a question about how to minimise plugin processor utilisation when recording multiple tracks of guitar.

Blake's made his first Impulse Response - based off a throwaway comment from Brian - and it is better than he anticipated so we congratulate his mastery of science as he embraces his new IR driven life. Guitar Center have a new logo and Richard has managed to forget about it for a week or so but is excited to weigh in with his semi-qualified views.

407 - Pedal-makers hate him for this one trick and is Brian the next Doctor Who? 04 May 202200:52:59

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Blake tears the roof of the sucker as we slide into another week's episode of rambling non-sequiturs and amusing musings whilst Brian dreams about wooden construction and Richard falls off a ladder.  What sort of guitar picks do you swear by? Blake has ordered some fancy laser-cut picks from our good friend Rick over at Honey Picks and tells us why we all need one now but disclaims that he is never 100% accurate...Richard almost manages to keep it clean.

The Mandela effect confuses everyone once more before Richard reigns it in and then lets it loose again when he talks about his domestic appliance saga and how he tried to leverage social media to fix his woes.  Elon Musk has been eying up a well known social media platform and the guys weigh in with their entirely uninformed and random views and Brian throws more shade.

The Plexi Drive Mini has been out for a while but the guys are still in love with it and talk about why - which leads into a conversation about what makes a pedal react well to a guitar's volume control. Brian refuses to let us into all of his secrets but he does like simians, Robert Keeley was awesome to Richard, and Blake has Coachella related news.

406 - Weird Bri Wamplervic and don't click random youtube links 27 Apr 202200:52:32

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Welcome to the world's premier dot matrix and laser printer related podcast, this week we tackle important subjects like how to shake a toner safely, how to spool 300 feet of paper into an Epson Dot matrix, and Thermal Printers - here to stay or just a fad ? Sorry, my bad, normal service will resume.

Richard's been learning some 80s power balladry and the guys chat about it and discover a disturbing cover version and then going off into the weeds immediately and start talking about Tony Hawk and Skateboarding (again) and Richard reveals the inspiration for the Tumnus graphic. Whats the longest you have ever waited for a new Guitar? Blake has been waiting for about a decade (maybe) for his special Epiphone and the guys also take a look at the new signature Joe B amp. Brian's been countrifying more music and he tells us a bit about his methodology whilst simultaneously impersonating Kermit the frog.

How many distortions does a person need? Brian has been posing this question so the guys ruminate and conclude it's at least seven. No eight.  Plus one.  And another one maybe. What about stereo distortion - and stereo rigs in general - Brian has views and Blake has some fancy new plugins he is raving about so the guys talk about recording techniques and plugins and all that goodness.

405 - Settle down, circuit nerd...and the one thing that great guitarists have in common20 Apr 202200:57:21

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Richard is giddy with excitement like only an Englishman can't be at the new Pink Floyd release, Brian does his best to ignore everything he says about it, and Blake analyses the Machine Gun Kelly memes. Phews - its all go. Richard also demonstrates an embarrassing lack of knowledge about American sports people and Blake schools him before disappearing mysteriously into the ether.

Some of the greatest players of the guitar have one thing in common and the guys chat about it and share some common views on the subject. Blake then explains why he's not a fan of a particular pedal and Brian is astounded and befuddled. Richard saw the new Tony Hawk documentary and tells Brian about what he saw as they both reminisce about the days they were young and hip enough to skate.

Do you believe everything you read on Wikipedia? We found some subtle edits to the Wampler Pedals Wikipedia page which we had to change and it shows just how the gargantuan infobeast operates. Brian believes this to be episode 420, which is erroneous, and neither is it episode 404 as Richard miscalculates (closer though), but it is coming out on 4/20 day so let's hope that confuses absolutely nobody. MAIDEN! Richard is impressed with Ed Sheeran for once, and tells us why.

There are a couple of swears so be warned...its very mild and infrequent

Wade Boggs, 10,000 Lufttumnuses, Screaming Tubas, The Goatmobile, Richard makes a subtle innuendo, Gear stuff...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

404 - Beard not found - with Ryan Burke from 60 Cycle Hum13 Apr 202200:58:18

Brian, Blake, and Richard welcome Ryan Burke from the 60 Cycle Hum podcast for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

The newly shorn Ryan  joins us as we consider the important issues of the day, like Austin Powers and black pudding, whilst Brian cast forth a multitude of scurrilous rumours. Richard and Blake have fallen in love with the new Marshall special edition Mini and this leads to a number of revelations about why Brian walks funny.

Is a tractor a truck? What about a lawn mower? Is that a tractor or a truck? These questions need to be answered and the guys debate this with zero research or preparation. Ryan and Richard talk a little bit about the graphic design elements of classic guitar logos and Brian dreams about designing everything in MS Paint.

Naming pedals is so hard sometimes so Ryan helps the guys out whilst Blake worries that he has contracted a rare medical condition.  This leads into a concentric circle of non sequiturs, medical speculation, and random conversations that are not even vaguely sensible.  You are not gonna want to miss this episode...

Beard Stalking, Flight simulator, The Pantstortion, Graphic design sins, Smoky amps, Jet packs, El Fuzzo Mi Amore, Directional medication...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

403 - Activating the Brian switch and what really happened at the Oscars06 Apr 202200:58:32

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Mondays are a little rough sometimes...and there was controversy at the Oscars that the guys feel compelled to discuss, including the impact on society and the impact on social media follower numbers such incidents have.  Brian then dreams about cantaloupes and the guys talk about rebuilding from scratch in the light of some incredibly sad news in the music world.

Richard introduces the guys to a new word - Stonking - and Brian refuses to believe it is not a rude word. Irrefutable proof is found in a strange place that involves David Gilmour and Mr Bean. Brian then tackles some good natured criticism he faced from the internet about our discussion on solid state tube replacements and opens up the discussion once more.

Classic BOSS Multi Effects pedals - some people love them some people hate them. Richard and Brian chat about which ones they have owned and how they helped them both discover the tones they wanted to get into. Blake has been dialling in some lovely gain sounds and Richard drops a hint.

Lightsabers at dawn, Genesis, Tortoise based japery, The global gain pedal shortage, Brian's special dances, Dr. Something, Chair regrets...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

402 - The return of the DL4 and breakdance in a day the Mel Bay way...30 Mar 202200:51:40

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Brian rewrites Tolkien with an all new character and it is established early on that Brian has some weirdness within him as the guys talk about his new hobby of turning songs into country versions. Blake has been talking to the fine folk over at Chibson and tells us a little bit about the mighty meme wizardry that they produce. Richard is impressed with Mark Tremonti and discusses why the world needs more nice people right now before Brian drops one or two names and then an Eagles based pun fest ensues.

Do you like to learn guitar solos note for note? It's not easy to memorize every solo and a lot of players choose not to but Richard makes a point about why sometimes it can be a good idea for pleasing an audience that may not care about your shred speed. Brian is listening to Taylor Childers and his faith in country music is being restored and the guys touch on this before the guys talk about early Rap and Hip-Hop via Brian's hideous vocal stylings.

The shortage of vacuum tubes is dominating guitar threads all over the interwebz so the guys discuss the false article about about Joe B manufacturing tubes and the market for tubes for guitarists and high end audiophiles alike.  Line 6 have re-released the classic DL4 delay in a new package and Brian is excited! The price at the time of recording was given as $420 but that was inaccurate however amusing.

Also, Gnomespores...

Why can't we be friends, Australian pirates, Brians Bells, Nammthrax, CD commitments, Doug. E Fresh...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

518 - The Power of Fuzz Compels You! 19 Jun 202400:59:04

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 518 of the Chasing Tone Podcast

Blake has been standing to work for a long time and it is energizing him so the guys discuss the merits of office furniture. Yes, you read that correctly.  This turns into a conversation about how you apply Tolex correctly as Richard thinks about building his own amplifier.  Do you wait before you switch on the stand-by switch on your amplifier? The guys ponder this age old question.

Richard invokes a hellish rebuke from Brian when he tries to convince him that MIDI is the future for amplifier control and a robust and bizarre conversation ensues.  Richard has been thinking about digital modelling and Brian is not happy with him, but he and Blake also have some new gear and it somehow involves the Insane Clown Posse.  Richard is also worried about taking his favorite combo amplifier to gigs until his personal amp tech intervenes...

What size pick do you use when you play guitar? This question provokes a variety of responses from the chaps and Brian desires a new sponsorship.  Speaking of Brians, Brian May has just made a not particularly surprising announcement about a collaboration with Gibson. Richard makes bizarre confessions about his follicular obsessions. He is a mean and awful person and tries to explain British humor - badly.

Chair Rugs, Pain and Anguish, Synergy IICP, Rivera Chubster 55, Secret Aardvark, Blue Chip Picks, Guitar Auctions ...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

401 - Is there a tube shortage and should you panic? 23 Mar 202200:56:26

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Blake's had an odd week and is fatigued but the guys have zero sympathy as they are more worried about the news regarding vacuum tube availability. EHX came out with a statement and the guys chat about their perspective on this before Brian reveals an amazing solid state replacement for tubes as Richard brings up the subject of high end solid state amps. This in turn sends Brian off onto a schematic treasure hunt...

Brian gets excited about the prospect of a Scotch egg and Richard tries to convince him that Special Brew is something he wants to try. The guys then discuss a solar powered guitar pedal before discussing the effects of the power crisis on the production of certain herbal substances.

Blake has been wearing an Anti-negativity helmet as he has been privileged to demo the new Aquabats pedal and Richard wants one. The guys then talk about plugins and DAWs a bit more and Blake has a secret. Richard went to his first gig since lock down and got to see friend of the show Paul Cuddeford doing his thang and it was good!

400 - How to market your music - Katie Zaccardi joins us for our 400th episode bonanza16 Mar 202200:54:15

Brian, Blake, and Richard are joined by special guest Katie Zaccardi for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

We wanted to give all our listeners a little gift for our 400th show so we asked the hugely knowledgeable and inspirational Katie Zaccardi to join us and tell us a little bit about herself, about her career, and give us some insight into marketing a music act in the age of Web 3.0 (ugh), social media, and viral videos. Once again, Brian will indulge in some TikTalkery. But not an inappropriate amount.

Katie tells us about her career and her journey to date and how she found her niche after spending some time in the world of app development and yoga (no goat yoga yet though...). Initially focusing on helping women in music, Katie has words that will resonate with everyone who has ever thought about taking their music to the next level, and you are not going to want to miss this episode.

Has the landscape changed for an artist these days, and what about the mechanisms with which an artist makes money? Sure they have, and if we don't adapt, we may get left behind -  yesterday is a lonely city! Is art content or is content art. Brian ponders this question in real time and you can practically hear the diodes inside his robot brain light up.

Social media hatred, Flossing, Karen central, Myspace, Richard's guitar playing dog...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

399 - Wayne Sabbath, the new JHS pedal, and the Mantheon Deluxe09 Mar 202200:50:05

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Blake is having issues with his computer peripherals so has jumped onto the TikTok train temporarily and so the guys open up the conversation with more algorithm analysis and other random TikTalkery, This then develops into a conversation about Blake's new camera and cameras in general before the guys figure out this is a guitar podcast. Well, kinda.

Our buddy Josh at JHS has launched a new pedal and he sent one to Brian and Brian is very happy about this so the guys dig in and Blake educates Brian about how to get the best out of it. This leads the guys into a chat about gain pedals and stacking and Richard tells us about how he likes to save something back before Brian admits to having a crush on Ryan Burke's beard.

Brian has bought himself a new amp, a BOSS Katana head, which he thought he bought before but was mistaken.  He gives his views and expertise on it so far but hasn't quite figured exactly what he feels about it yet. Richard chimes in with some of the extended features he should check out and waxes lyrical about the software functionality.

398 - This is one of the most expensive pedals on the internet02 Mar 202200:58:26

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

BOSS have released a new version of the Space Echo in a compact pedal form and the guys get a bit excited, Brian makes some wild boasts, and Blake gets very excited until...well until Richard pops his balloon by talking about the nefarious gouging of the Slice of Pie pedal.  It all gets silly and Richard suggests a ritual to cleanse the situation.

How do you power your pedals? The guys talk about a stalwart of wall warts, the Truetone 1-Spot and Brian admits to the occasional daisy-chain violation. The conversation turns to the world of power supplies and Brian and Blake grace us with some amazing audio impersonations that you definitely won't want to miss. Sorry. Will want to miss. Yeah thats it.

David Crosby has being saying stuff about Spotify and Blake is not happy about it and tells us why and the guys chat about it at length. Richard has been watching big aeroplanes trying to land with massive wind...sorry in massive winds...and Brian tells us about the Wampler Family Flying Circus before then detailing his near death experience in the air.

397 - You all forgot this one thing about the half time show... 23 Feb 202200:53:50

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Brian's been hanging out with Cory Wong and tells us a bit about it,  the hip and happening part of Indianapolis that he got to visit, and why he loves sound checks more than actual concerts. Meanwhile in merry olde England, Richard tried to watch the Superbowl and is less informed about the rules of football than he was before, but he did enjoy the half time show.  Of course we discuss the Silver Silver Sky too, and get treated to Brian and Blake rapping in unison. Treated, yes, thats the word I meant to use.

Richard's been playing around with Protools again and he got Antares Autotune and is blown away by how powerful that plugin is. Brian has some plugin related views and the guys chat a little bit about production with a DAW before Richard challenges a seemingly innocent word and then they go off into the sea weeds.

Blake's pizza themed pedal, the Big Ear Slice of Pie, has finally been officially released, and he talks a bit about it. It's a work of art and indeed a veritable  labor of love as it took quite a long time to get all the details correct despite not being able to mist the box with pizza aromas. Mmm...Cheesy. Brian then explains how gravity works - you wont want to miss this...

396 - Mysterious high end sheen and massive failures16 Feb 202200:57:13

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Firstly, an apology. We tried something on this episode and it didn't work. Consequently the people who are responsible for this atrocity have been fired. And the people responsible for hiring and subsequently firing them have also been fired as a precaution.  We apologise most profusely and it wont happen again.

Richard has a few minor but controversial rants after not feeling the love on various internet forums and Brian finds this most amusing as he taunts Richard from the security of his fortress of polystyrene. This serves us right for recording on a Monday. Never again. Have you ever taken an inordinate amount of time to learn a piece on the guitar? Richard mentions the Failure to Fracture blog and then dives off in a completely different direction before we discover that Blake has been unwell and not just in the brain.

Brian is obsessed with making every band sound like Nickleback and he tells us why. Well kinda.  Its all about riding the Tik Tok train and not engaging in the meme wars! But if you are getting into a war, you are going to want the Martinsville Terror, aka Billy Bob Wampler on your side.

Mr. Tic Tac, Chestweasles, Brian's adult stories, Phil Collins' worst album, The Silver Sky, Eddie Vedder...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

395 - Blake's Pizza Pedal and the all new 41 Watt Podcast with Phillip Carter09 Feb 202200:48:58

Brian, Blake, and Richard are joined this week by Phillip Carter, the host of the 40 Watt Podcast, for an all-new episode of Chasing Tone!

If you haven't yet heard the 40 Watt Podcast you really should - Phillip is an awesome musician and a great interviewer and his shows are well worth checking out. He joins us this week and almost certainly regrets it immediately. Richard attempts really hard to stop his fellow hosts talking about NAMM because he feels left out and, well, he fails.  So we chat a lot about the NAMM show, guitar shows in general, leather quantification, and Richard gets a well needed 40 winks.

TikTok is Brian's new hobby. He spends upwards of 21 hours a day dancing in front of a mirror wearing different costumes and he discusses this at length and in great detail with our guest. Phillip has being duetting with Brian, and Richard wonders if it is like Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell...or should that be Tammy Wynette ? We then discover some frankly disturbing facts about Brian's mind and his crazy obsessions - and mathematics and NFTs are indeed involved.

Have you ever bought a Fender guitar pedal? What did you think ? They have released the new Hammertone pedals and the guys debate  them despite not having had any to play with. Come on Fender, send us some to play, and while you are at it, a few Acoustasonic Jazzmasters wouldn't go amiss. Richard points out that these pedals look very similar to some design work he has seen but can't quite place it...or can he?

Then there is pizza, fuzzy, warm, gorgeous pizza pie. Well its a new fuzz pedal from the mind of Blake and the chaps over at Big Ear pedals which got released today. It's sort of an exclusive. Sort of. We're really excited for Blake and the future of Pizza shaped fuzz pedals.

I'll get you Blakey, Library conferences, Brian's middle finger, The dot com crash, Hobbits, Deepfakes ...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

394 - What does KTR stand for? and are Gibson about to release NFTs???02 Feb 202200:58:59

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

This week we have big (ish) news for our Patreon members with an all new level for those who want more than just our undying love. You will get the undying love too, but also some extra special stuff!

The legal eagles at Gibson have allegedly been filing trademarks over historical body shapes and the guys speculate about what it's about. Richard is characteristically sceptical but becomes pacified when he thinks about simian beings. Brian has some interesting trademark related views so weighs in with his experience before deciding to rename an op amp chip. Blake is coming to Nashville! There will be pizza, oh yes, there will be lots of pizza.

Richard demonstrates a shocking lack of knowledge relating to the wild west and Brian and Blake are shocked, horrified, and feel the need to educate him...and the timing could not be better as he has just been sent a cowboy hat by his cousin in America which leads the guys to a new invention...and then Blake fesses up to some disturbing trucker related history.

Can you microwave tea? Maybe, Richard is not sure he hates the idea as much as Blake thinks he will, and Brian remains confused. A certain guitar player that divides opinion greatly has been talking about YouTube hypnotising its audience. The guys tread sensitively around the subject and conclude that he should just play guitar and not spout nonsense.

393 - Big pedal news and Brian flies to outer space26 Jan 202201:00:33

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Welcome to the Number 1 rated guitar podcast in Martinsville, Indiana! Blake comes in hard with some Dad related subject matter, which takes Richard by surprise, before letting us know about his new musical project as Richard laments his mouldy case related woes. Meanwhile Brian commented on a technical thread over on Facebook before his morning coffee but thankfully nobody was hurt by his crazy suggestions.

Brian has discovered that he can fly to outer space in his flight sim and this makes the inner child in him - which is about 99% of his brain - very happy. There has been some big pedal news this week but Blake is not yet convinced and tells us why. There has also been some business related news and Richard approves so much he goes off on a bit of a rant...

Richard paid a trip to one of the UK's finest Guitar shops and has ended up GASsing really badly for something that looks very wrong, but feel very right. He admits to having problems with testing guitars in a shop environment and offers up a solution before Blake and Brian attempt to impersonate electric guitars with their mouths.

Guitar case love, The return of the idiot hound, Crypto joy, Pedalboards of doom, Brian's dog form, Switchable effects, Mildly angry NFTs...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

392 - You may have a valuable pedal that you didn't know about19 Jan 202200:56:32

Brian, Blake and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Blake joins us over dial-up as we dive headlong and foot-short into another episode of vaguely guitar based musings and mutterings. Richard hurts Brian's feelings - both of them - before Blake gives us some insight into some workings in the gear market right now - you may have a valuable pedal that you didn't realise was in demand as Blake has.

Speaking of pedals, young master Blake teases us with a brand new pedal release that is coming up before Brian takes us through a TikTok video that tickles him somewhat. This bit is definitely not to be taken seriously. Except Blake's bit. Richard then drags the conversation several layers lower when he talks about a lady with an interesting business model that literally backfired.

Richard has been thinking about getting a 7 string, maybe even a PRS? He and Brian discuss it and Brian's brain melts on air before they move to talking about bass guitars which in turn leads to some simple amplifier related questions.

Brian's secret voiceover work, Blake's weird flex, Bottled methane, Shakira or Calvin Harris, Massive pedal hints, The silver squier, Brian's organ harvesting scam...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

517 - It's difficult to name a band and how many pickups do you need?12 Jun 202401:04:33

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 517 of the Chasing Tone Podcast

Welcome to late night module talk with Brian Wampler....no - wait that is another show...and Blake makes some extreme Sasquatch related confessions. Meanwhile Richard has a new hat and it is magnificent. Well, maybe it isn't but he loves it. He is also having middle aged band related problems and he shares them with us all.

The guys look at 1980's style guitars and weigh up the differences between the main contenders - Charvel, Jackson, Ibanez...and Kramer.  What's the correct number of pickups on a guitar for you? The guys don't know which way they fall on this - seemingly they simultaneously want one or three pickups - and Brian manages to steer the conversation to the guitar he wants.

Richard has a new amplifier from the fine chaps at ENGL and he is very happy and tells us all about it and Brian is not impressed with something Richard suggests and makes his feelings known before wondering if this maybe one of the greatest amps in the World?  Richard gets confused by the special special edition. Blake has some industry news about a well known brand and Richard butchers greek mythology.

391 - Døvydas from the Internet is here...attitude follows action12 Jan 202201:05:44

Brian, Blake and Richard are joined by live looping maestro Døvydas for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Our guest has come from relatively humble roots in Lithuania to international fame, via "Lithuania's got talent" and the Eurovision song contest, and his journey both geographically and musically is discussed at length. It's been a funny and interesting journey so far - if you have never seen one of his YouTube videos you should definitely go check one out now - and the guys have a great time chatting about the cultural differences and quirks that have stood out.

We hear about how he started off with borrowed gear,  his earliest influences, Brian tells us about how he first met Døvydas, and Richard mistakes Am for Dm.  We dig into his style, his skills, and how he puts his performance together, and we get some great wisdom that stops Brian in his tracks.  Blake points out that it's not just the Rock and the Roll that Døvydas excels at either before committing a hideous and nefarious audio crime.

Døvydas has been having fun at a guitar store and tells us of the story which pleases everyone, and then explains how being a solo artist can be a real time saver, and why his pursuit of physical fitness is a lifestyle choice.  He also gives as a raft of valuable wisdom. You are not going to want to miss this episode - it's a rollercoaster from start to finish. The medium IS the message.

Red Elvis chickensuits, Pointless awards, Pork Butt and Blues,  Rick rolling, The fresh prince, Steve Vai ...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

390 - Happy New Year, Happy New Gear!05 Jan 202200:57:20

Brian, Blake and Richard are back with an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Happy new year to all of our listeners! The guys have been indulging in merriment and chocolate and are feeling the strain - well their waistbands are - and they discuss their gear hauls over the festive period. Brian is still having humidity related issues so Richard suggests a change of location but Brian is not keen.

Brian bought himself a new toy for Christmas and tells us all about it and all about his (non peanut butter flavored) cookies.  Blake and Brian also discuss the worrying supply chain issues in the electronics industry and it isn't happy listening. Hint: Prices are not going to be going down this year in the music gear industry. It seems as if Brian has fallen into the matrix over the holiday season and Richard wants to pull him back out so he can make some more pedals.

Alexa has become dangerous and has proved we are not ready to embrace a fully AI driven life just yet. Bad Alexa. Blake has an amazing Dan Armstrong lucite guitar and the guys love it, it has some interesting technological features plus it weighs less than a baby elephant. Ooh. shiny things. I cant believe we didn't make the Transparent tone gag. The guys also got some amazing gifts from some of our listeners and are bowled over by the generosity so discuss what they got...

Important note: several stupid and dangerous things get discussed. Do not listen to anything from these idiots, their brains have been badly affected by the consumption of holiday foodstuffs. Yes foodstuffs, that's it.

The Fast show, E-sports, The rise of Skynet, Brians radio headset, Blues driver mods, Thalia capos ...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

389 - Paul Cuddeford joins us for a holiday chat29 Dec 202100:55:03

Brian, Blake and Richard are back with an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

This week we are joined by Paul Cuddeford, a British guitar player who has graced many a record and many a stage, and is currently part of the touring David Bowie alumni supergroup "Holy Holy". He tells us about how he met Jimmy Page, got the playing bug, and how he started out as a musician in LA as a result of a meeting with guitarist Rick Dufray.

He's a self confessed gear-head and has been around a fair few legendary individuals and part of the guitar scene through some interesting times so has a unique take on what it was like to play on the road with some big name acts. Brian also gets the opportunity to use his new-found British vocabulary to simultaneously categorise and criticise Richard and his 90s music tastes.

Paul is a left handed player and Blake has a really interesting question for all 'lefties' everywhere so the guys explore it and Paul gives us his views based on his experience. Paul is also a Wampler artist and the guys talk about the Tumnus and the Pantheon and why he loves them.  The guys then look at Paul's career making music for Film and television and there are some great insights in how to get started.

Pete Thorn, Yo! MTV Raps, Ron Jeremy, Mott the Hoople, Shane MacGowan...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!
