Under the covenant of grace, we no longer need to depend on our own efforts to earn God's approval like the people had to do under the law. Because of our belief in Jesus and in His finished works, God has already approved of us and declared us righteous. All that remains for us to do now is to respond to what has already been done. The new covenant calls for the effort to stay rooted in grace when everything around us tries to pull us back into performance. Living under grace doesn't mean the absence of labor, but laboring to remain at rest when the devil tries to distract us with the world's doubts, fears, and anxieties.

Believers have been made right with God. He sees us as righteous not because of anything good we have done, but because of what Jesus did and our faith in that. This is a significant departure from Old-Testament law, which demanded strict obedience and constant self-effort to earn righteousness. Our right-standing with God is the result of being born again; at that point, He immediately saw us as holy, perfect, and redeemed. This stance in Christ is permanent and independent of our behavior, which reflects our continually transforming state on our Christian journey; God will continue to work in us until our state eventually evolves to meet our stance.

Our mindset makes a huge difference in how we live our lives. Being conscious of our sins causes us shame and condemnation; by contrast, being aware of our innocence in Jesus Christ frees us from negative emotions and changes our behavior. Most churches constantly focus on sin; however, Jesus delivered us from this, and God has now forgiven all believers. Faith in this this makes us righteous, so that we therefore no longer have to define ourselves by our performance. Jesus is enough; believing Him reveals to us who we really are.

An important sign of how mature we are is the ability to control and manage our emotions. God gave us feelings; however, He never meant for them to govern our lives. An emotionally mature person has reached an understanding regarding their thoughts and behaviors, and is therefore able to decide how to best approach an otherwise challenging situation. When we reach this stage, we can find successful solutions to our problems without letting them overwhelm us. In life, we all make mistakes; the key to growing in maturity is learning from them. If we go through something but have no takeaways from it later, we stay the same; by contrast, seeing our mistakes as learning opportunities makes us stronger and wiser. Whenever we make a bad decision, letting God teach us what He wants us to learn from the consequences allows Him to grow and mature us.

Maturing spiritually and becoming more like Jesus should be every Christian's goal. He is grace; we therefore need the Holy Spirit's help in transforming us in our spiritual growth, because we cannot do it alone. Our starting point is a personal relationship with Christ; knowing Him results in gradually increasing levels of maturity. A practical understanding of growing in grace hinges on realizing that it happens over time. We must know what it means to receive it ourselves, so that we can give it to others; we can also use the times others hurt us to grow in grace and in forgiveness We grow spiritually by living our daily lives, coming into contact with others, and depending on God to teach us how to respond. It is vital that we make an impact on the world; growing in grace so that we can be more like Jesus enables us to do that.

There is a difference between simply knowing about God and really knowing Him. A genuine, personal relationship with Him should impact us through and through. When we truly know God as He is, with no religious fluff added, we will find the strength to go through things we never knew we could withstand and do things we are not capable of by human means. We will never be sufficient in and of ourselves; all we need to succeed and prosper is God's presence, and nothing more. Jesus is enough; we do not need to add a single thing. With the Holy Spirit living in us, we will lack nothing and carry in us everything necessary to live with power and authority. In a world that Satan controls and causes to walk in fear, we walk in the presence of God and carry it with us wherever we go; therefore, all is well with us.

It is impossible to live in a way that pleases God without yielding to Him as instruments for Him to use; godly living is a result of submitting to and trusting Him. Although salvation is of God, it is specifically through Jesus Christ. Our own efforts to be good and to do the morally right things, independent from Jesus, will not succeed. Placing our faith in Him does not take away the problems we encounter in life, but does allow Him to deliver us and give us victory over them. We cannot overcome the evil we encounter in the world—and in ourselves—through self-effort, but only through Christ, who lives inside every born-again believer. Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit; depending on Him is the key to experiencing success in life. Relying on the Spirit when we feel our old sinful natures trying to re-assert themselves is how we live godly lives.

We all want to live godly, but this is impossible through our own efforts; we keep bumping into our own sinful selves. Salvation from the penalty of sin is the work of God, alone; we cannot save ourselves. Our belief in Him, without any of our own performance, is all that is necessary for our redemption and justification. This means that we do not have to strive to achieve the kind of high moral living God expects, but simply yield to Him and let Him do His work. Living this kind of life requires that we depend on Him, which is the exact opposite of what religion tells us. No matter what happens in life, we can trust God to watch over us and take care of us. Depending on Him to work through us allows Him to use us as His vessels to do great things, with marvelous results.

If there was ever a time we needed to hear from God, it is right now. One Word from Him changes everything; this is why, as Christians, we need to be in a position to hear Him. Dreams are a powerful way God communicates with us and gives us directions; they were a frequent occurrence in the Old Testament, and He has every intention of continuing these types of interactions with us today. One of the ways God gives us insights and revelations is while we are sleeping. Our success, our prosperity, our deliverance, and many other things concerning His will for our lives are invested in hearing from Him. We can act either on good ideas or on God's ideas; when we let Him lead us, we will succeed and prosper like never before. When we realize that our dreams are not just random thoughts we have while we sleep, but are actually one of the ways God talks to us, we can begin experiencing supernatural results.

God has given us many promises, and one of those promises is abundant supply. He is our source for everything we need. However, many people try to get their needs met through a relationship with worldly principles, instead of through a relationship with Jesus Christ. Because of Jesus, believers will never have to fear not having enough. Christ is committed to taking care of us, and He always keeps His promise; this is something we can trust in completely. We all have seasons in our lives in which nothing seems to be happening. This is to be expected; when we find ourselves in a dry season, we maintain our faith as believers by trusting in and relying on God. There are plenty of things we can trust and rely on, but we succeed when we make God, and God only, our confidence and hope. His Word is the doorway to manifestations; studying and applying it is the solution to moving through whatever situation shows up. How we see a situation depends on the lens we are looking through. The lens will filter how we perceive it; in life, our success depends on seeing every issue through the lens of God's Word. How we respond to the circumstances determines the condition of our lives, and is a direct result of our philosophy. In light of this, using the correct lens—one based on the Word—is critical. If the way we interpret what happens to us is not biblically-based, it is wrong; therefore, our responses and conclusions will also be incorrect. To succeed, believers need a philosophy modeled on Christ, not on the world. Viewing life through the lens of what He says always gives us the correct worldview.

eing conscious of our sins isn't the way God wants us to live. By contrast, being aware of how God sees us in Christ—innocent and free—lets us focus on our righteousness. We are forgiven because Jesus has dealt with our sin. We aren't what we do; bad behavior doesn't separate a person from God, but rather the sinful nature of a person before they get born again. Believing that God decided to make us just like Him even before the beginning of time keeps us anchored in our true identity when the world bombards us with messages to the contrary.

As New-Testament believers, a solid understanding of the covenant under which we live gives us a true picture of God. We have all studied grace and truth; however, they are not separate, but the same. Grace is the truth, and is Jesus Christ, Himself. Grace is God's undeserved, unmerited favor; it does not excuse sin, but instead teaches us to live godly lifestyles by changing us from the inside out. God's favor works in our lives on many different levels, one of which is to provide what we need every day. We do not have to be perfect or work to earn His grace; we receive it as an undeserved gift because of our born-again status. Even when we sin, God still shows us grace so abundantly that it changes our minds about our behavior; it causes us to want to stop sinning and to please God. He does this by showing us mercy for things we do not deserve. Our faith, not in what we do but in what Jesus has already one, activates grace to begin working on our behalf. This frees us from constantly striving through our own efforts, and enables us to confidently trust in Jesus' finished works. No matter what we do, we will never be able to free ourselves from the bondage of sin. Thinking that we can keep the entire Law of Moses with its hundreds of commandments all by ourselves leads to failure; we need God's help in this area. The only way we can escape the punishment and destruction the law calls for is through Jesus Christ. Faith in Jesus and in what He did on the cross is what brings us salvation. Just as our own efforts cannot save us, neither can our actions cause us to lose our salvation. As born-again believers, we can place our trust in His unearned, undeserved favor because regardless of what we do, our sinful acts will never affect our righteousness. When we get saved, we immediately receive God's undeserved favor. This comes as a gift, and is something we do not have to earn. Grace will certainly be waiting for us when we get to heaven, but we can begin experiencing it right now, in our everyday lives. In the physical realm, grace has made available to us every good thing we need in life; in the spiritual realm, it has also made us the righteousness of God—this is cause for rejoicing and giving thanks. We receive grace as long as we stay humble and avoid pride. No longer do we have to work and depend on our self-efforts to receive from God. Christians need to understand the integral role renewing their minds plays in changing them for the better. To be able to behave differently, we must first begin learning to think like God. However, experiencing transformation is our decision; we must want to change because He will not renew our minds for us. This gradual renewal is different than simply learning new things; as we learn more of God's Word, we begin to be transformed from the inside out. Changing the way we think is integral in the process of renewing our minds. True change is not simply learning but allowing a transformation to take place in our thought processes. Renewing our minds is a lifestyle we must choose to embrace. We must be careful of what we allow our thoughts to be shaped and influenced by; God tells us to avoid thinking like the world and learn to think like Him. As free moral agents, the decision to change is ours. We can either choose the world's way of thinking or His way of thinking, with very different outcomes; therefore, the choice we make is critical to our futures. Experiencing genuine transformation in our lives involves yielding ourselves to the Holy Spirit. If we have been born again, we already have the power to change; this power is something God has put inside us. When we need the wisdom to know what to do to be transformed, we can consult with the Spirit, who lives in us. He is the one who tells us the details of how to change, and advises us of what path to walk on in life; a relationship with Him positions us to receive this type of clarity and understanding directly from God. When we trust the Holy Ghost enough to let Him go before us and lead us, we begin seeing things happen that we could never cause to happen on our own, things for which we cannot take credit. God wants to bring us the true joy that only comes from being in Him. Letting go of any stubborn resistance to His prompting allows Him to do so.

As believers, we are clothed with tremendous power. Because of what Jesus did, we have the authority to walk on top of any situation that tries to destroy us. This means that we are authorized to walk on sickness, disease, or any other kind of evil that rises up against us. We have been given the right to command in life; therefore, we do not have to tolerate anything less than God's best for us. His authority always remains constant and never wanes; if we do not see the results we want, it is because we are not walking in our authority. It is not enough to simply believe that Jesus, alone, can heal the sick, raise the dead, and cast out devils; we must accept that we, too, have power to do the same. At any given time, we have all faced the temptation to worry about something. However, Christians who know their God confront this emotion differently than the world. Worrying stems from focusing on the wrong things in life. Anxiety arises when we get too wrapped up in material possessions instead of in our faith in God, who supplies us with everything we need. We must not allow momentary circumstances to affect how we feel. We know our faith is real when we have peace of mind and rest from worries. Worry is fear-based; when we are absolutely sure and confident about the promises of God, we find rest.

Living under grace as believers means we're God's children. As our heavenly Father, He loves us enough to chasten and correct us as needed. It's painful while we're going through it, but it's not punishment; chastening is a sign that we're God's son or daughter. It's God's way of dealing with our sins but doing so in love. We're unlike the unsaved world that doesn't know Jesus and therefore doesn't undergo the chastening process; we therefore can rejoice when we undergo it.

As born-again believers, what we confess with our mouths is tremendously powerful. Most Christians are defeated because they believe and confess the wrong things. We have the same authority that God has; just like Him, we have been authorized to bring things to pass by what we say. Right-thinking and the willingness to declare what we believe are crucial; we run into trouble when we speak things we do not believe. The authority we have works for good as well as for bad. It is therefore imperative to open our mouths and affirm what God has already said, and not what the enemy has said. Our words are containers carrying either faith or fear, and the results we experience are activated by what we say. Once we understand this spiritual law and are willing to put it into practice, there is no stopping us.

When life gets crazy, we must remember that in the midst of everything, believers are still the ones who have authority from God. Authority is defined as the right to command. We do not have to tolerate sickness, disease, fear, or any other kind of evil present in the world. Christians actually have the power to enforce in the world what is already in place in heaven. When change for the better is needed, it will be made not by earthly authorities, but by the worldwide church of Jesus Christ. As believers, we must not be afraid to acknowledge that we possess the ability to get the job done. It is time to execute our God-given authority; by doing so, we release healing and win at spiritual warfare.

Because we are all human, we are all acquainted with guilt. All of us at some time or another have said or done something that we later regretted. A guilty conscience robs us of our peace, but this is not God's will for us. Guilt often comes from sin and the realization that we have done wrong; it stalks our minds and tries to steal our happiness and mental stability. However, the finished works of Jesus enable us to deal with this emotion; His blood is the answer to our sin and guilt. Choosing any other way to deal with it will lead to failure. Faith that God is greater than our guilty feelings gives us a clear conscience.

Relationships are very important to God, yet sometimes they end. When this happens and we lose someone we love, the extreme pain from the broken relationship can break our hearts. Regardless of the circumstances surrounding the loss, God promises to heal the emotional wounds resulting from it, even if He does not restore the relationship itself. Some people can be devastated by this, because they allow themselves to be led by their emotions. A relationship that has ended has the potential to destroy our lives if we let it break our relationship with God. To overcome it and move forward, we must trust that He has something better waiting for us in our future. As long as we focus on God and our relationship with Him, we will be able to remain emotionally healthy and strong.

Relationships and friendships with others make life sweeter, and learning how to build godly and strong friendships leads us to successful and happy marriages. However, none of these relationships are possible without first forming a personal relationship with God and His Word. The Bible gives us specific directions on how to be the kind of forgiving friend that consistently displays unconditional love toward others. It also tells us how to repair and reconcile a relationship in conflict. This type of restoration comes by respecting others, putting their interests first, and choosing to overlook their offenses against us. We cannot do this through our own efforts—we succeed only by relying on the Holy Spirit to help us. Depending on God allows Him to supernaturally put our severed relationships back together.

Brokenness is a real issue in today's world. We all want to do the morally right thing, but sometimes we find ourselves doing the exact opposite; this is because all of us have been broken in some way. Brokenness is the fundamental disorder in creation that affects our relationships and behavior. In the beginning when God created the universe, brokenness did not exist. However, it showed up when the devil did; this disorder comes directly from the enemy. The good news is that God can turn any brokenness in our lives into something better and more beautiful than before. He offers us reconciliation; when we turn back to Him, He works every bad thing that happened to us into something good.

Just as there is a contrast between the law that Moses gave and the grace that Jesus brought, there is also a contrast between self-effort and rest. God only works on our behalf if we are resting; therefore, we must rightly divide what it means to be at rest on a spiritual level. Knowing the difference between working to get God to do something and having faith in what He has already done allows us to enter into the place of rest where He wants us to be, and to stay there. We are not made righteous in God's eyes by our performance, but by our belief in Jesus Christ. We are the righteousness of God by faith, even when we sin, but many Christians do not understand this. We must move beyond the mindset that makes it difficult for us to believe that we could actually receive something from God without doing anything to deserve it. Stress and worry are signs that we are still in self-effort; the peace of mind from believing that we already have everything Jesus made available for us is the acid test that proves we are truly at rest.

The overarching question many of us may have on our minds is, "Why am I here on earth and what am I supposed to do?" We learn the answer when we find out the destiny that God has already planned and created for us. When we consider the deepest desires of our heart that seem to have always been there and will not go away, it is because God deliberately put them there. This was no accident; it is His will that we acknowledge those desires and pursue them. Ways to discover what God wants us to do include determining what sparks our passion, knowing what talents automatically emerge from us, and seeking guidance from godly people in this area. The definition of what it means for us to obey God has changed from the old covenant of the law to the new covenant of grace. Before, perfectly keeping all the commandments was required in order to receive blessings and avoid being cursed; now, belief in Jesus' perfect performance in keeping all the laws positions us to receive all of the blessings with none of the curses. Unlike in the Old Testament, our doing is now secondary in importance to God; when we first believe in the finished works of Jesus, our doing will fall in line with our faith. The law tells us to trust in our performance. However, our faith should rest not in what we do or the material possessions we can acquire, but in God's love for us. Focusing on Jesus instead of on our self-efforts allows us to find rest in His sufficiency. Setting aside all the rules and regulations that religion says are important and simply believing in God's love allows Him to give us the specifics of what and how to accomplish what He wants us to do.

We have all felt the temptation at one time or another to think of ourselves as the center of our own little universe. This is because we live in a culture that encourages a self-centered mindset. Contrary to popular opinion, however, this kind of thinking is not something we should fall into. Self-centeredness and pride fool us into thinking that we, and our own needs, matter more than everyone else and their needs; the result is that we hurt others. To be self-centered is to be constantly focused on our own perceived importance and what others think; this comes out either through arrogance or shyness. Instead of being proud and self-centered, we should instead embrace a humble mindset, using Jesus Christ as our example. Genuine humility is agreeing with the truth, regardless of others' opinion; God can only use us when we reach this point.

An awareness of sin is Satan's number one weapon to keep believers stagnant and paralyzed in one place. His strategy is to constantly remind us of our mistakes so that he can control us through guilt and shame. This spiritual paralysis isn't a good place to be because being conscious of sin keeps us from receiving the liberty that Jesus gave us. Now that grace has come, God invites us to live under it so that sin will no longer have dominion over us. Thankfully, because of what Jesus did, we have been pardoned, forgiven, and declared innocent.

We all have a choice as to how we want to live our lives. We can either choose a lifestyle that pleases God, or one that only pleases ourselves. A distinguishing mark of the new covenant is that we have the Holy Spirit who works in us and empowers us to do things that are pleasing to God; these are the very things that we are not capable of doing on our own. However, too many Christians who are under grace do not understand its nature; they become comfortable with their sin and reason that whatever the world does is okay for them to do also. Although God still loves them, they become accustomed to living solely for themselves. If we find ourselves at this point and do not know how to bring our lives back into control, we simply need to let the Holy Spirit teach us how to resist worldly temptations and yield our wills to God's will. We find power, purpose, and direction when we decide to cooperate with, not fight against, God.

If we have ever been hurt in a relationship, or are hurting now, we must learn how to deal with it so that we can recover and move on. We live in an angry world; much of that anger stems from the emotional pain of being hurt. Trying to go on with our lives with unresolved hurt as our foundation gives us a warped, twisted view of life and makes us bitter. We have an enemy who works through others to hurt us and paralyze us in our past. However, believers have been given authority and power over the enemy; this includes over his ability to hurt us. We walk in freedom from hurt by dealing with it God's way, not the world's way. We win by shifting our focus from our past and what the devil says about us to our future and what God says about us.

We are living in a broken world surrounded by broken people. It is impossible to go through life without being broken in some area. However, we must not use this as an excuse to stay where we are without making progress. In His Word, God promises to be with us and deliver us from whatever brokenness we suffer. He turns it into something good, makes us whole again, and brings us back to Him. Brokenness puts us in a place that makes us willing to do anything that God asks of us, without any resistance. When we are hurting and suffering, our pain is not pointless; just as Jesus was broken on the cross but was raised three days later, we will also be delivered from our brokenness when we trust in Him.

When sickness and disease show up, a Christian's response to it should be completely different than the world's response. Jesus already made provisions for our perfect health two thousand years ago so that we would not have to waste our energy trying to do something He already did. We can instead follow ten biblically-based steps for receiving by faith what is already finished. Healing is God's will, but His will does not automatically come to pass without us doing our part; we must actively decide to take it for ourselves. When most people have no idea how to respond to a bad medical diagnosis, our response should always be based on God's Word concerning healing. What God says—not what the doctor says—is the final authority on the subject. Faith is our positive response to what grace has already made available; this response causes healing to come to pass.

It is impossible to go through life without suffering some sort of brokenness. Thankfully, we do not have to endure the pain all alone; Jesus died for broken people. He went to the cross for us so that we could be healed from this state, and move on with our lives. Relationships play a major part in the healing God wants to bring us. Not only does His presence restore broken relationships, but He also heals us emotionally through new relationships we form with other believers. Although true wholeness can only be found through Jesus Christ, God uses human care and ministry to assist us on our journey. This is how He heals our broken hearts.

As believers, we must not make the mistake of thinking that we have to do something, first, before God can do something for us. Because of the finished works of Jesus Christ, everything we need has already been done. Our healing, deliverance, success, prosperity, peace, and joy are waiting for us to receive them by faith. If we fail to realize this, it is because we have not yet renewed our minds. This is an important point; even after being born again, we will need to continually renew our minds for the rest of our lives. Real change comes from learning to think differently from the world, and from religion; bringing our thoughts into compliance with God's Word causes us to grow and mature spiritually. This type of renewal takes courage and commitment, but is well worth any sacrifices we must make to reach the destination God has in mind for us.

If we want a successful life, our mindset is important. We can either embrace a mentality of failure or of success. Our minds are powerful, and our thought processes can move us in either direction. Mindsets of self-preservation and poverty go against what God's Word teaches us about trusting in Him for everything we need; neither should we fall prey to a comparison mindset. As believers, we must have faith that our heavenly Father rules over and sustains all things, and that because we are in Him, we will have no lack or insufficiency in any area of our lives. We must also remember that comparing ourselves to others minimizes what God has done for us. Jesus, who is our perfect example, knew that He was a child of the King, and that the King's children always have more than enough; this is how we must think.

As Christians, we are called to be bold and confident. It is not God's will that we are fearful or afraid of anything; this spirit comes from the enemy. Satan uses fear to control us; we therefore must be extremely sensitive to its presence in our lives. One of the worst things about living in fear is that it keeps us in bondage, which is why we must resist it and fight against it with every fiber of our being. In our spiritual walk, our minds are a battleground. In light of this, it matters greatly who and what we give access to in our thought lives. If we are struggling with negative emotions, we must take responsibility for what we think. To be truly successful, a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit is essential. The Spirit is our silent partner and the third person in the Holy Trinity, sent to lead us where we need to go in life. The Holy Ghost can do many things we are unable to do on our own, and He has multiple roles. As a teacher, He alerts us to false teachings that deceive so many in these last days; there is a good reason He is also called the Spirit of truth. Other roles He fills include a corrector, a director, a planner, and a deliverer. Trusting and acknowledging the Spirit allows Him to put His attributes to work to bring to pass God's will for our lives. Allowing Him to guide us through every situation moves us into an overwhelmingly good plan that God lovingly prepared specifically for us.

ur relationships with others can sometimes be eye-opening. No two people are the same, and everyone we come into contact with brings different life experiences and emotional baggage into the relationship. When we least expect it, emotions can boil over and a simple misunderstanding can erupt into a dramatic reaction. We can be blindsided by it if we aren't prepared; asking God to help us when we need it is the key to prospering and succeeding in our emotional lives. Reaching a point of emotional maturity that helps us recognize when drama is heading our way gives us the ability to handle it successfully and maintain peace and tranquility.

On our journey through life, it is impossible to find the right path on our own. As Christians, we do not have to guess or hope for the best; we have the Holy Spirit who coaches and directs us in the right direction to go. Most people think He is just a shiver, a jump, or a jiggle, but He is a real person, sent to guide, counsel, and instruct us.
