Award-winning audio director and producer Polly Thomas and writer Charlotte Delaney have brought together a team of incredible actors to deliver never-before produced or performed Shelagh Delaney play Catch Me Who Can as an audio drama for Thomas Carter Projects. Celebrated actor Rita Tushingham, who made her screen debut in the iconic 1961 film version of A Taste of Honey, is united with Delaney’s work once again alongside award-winning stage and screen actor Toby Jones as Mr. Halliwell, and two extraordinary emerging talents Ivy Sheehan as Hattie and Xavier Moras Spencer as Boy, with original music by Max Delaney. T

Catch Me Who Can is a play that asks questions about freedom. It tells the story of Hattie, a teenage girl trying to find her freedom by running away from school and home. Her search, or her desire for escape has a profound influence on her teacher Mr. Halliwell, played by Toby Jones, whose rather cosy life is unsettled by her ‘flight’.

Charlotte said:

‘My mum wrote Catch Me Who Can in response to me running away from home for 2 days and nights when I was 14, in 1978 and it imagines my last day ‘on the lam’. My mum never really liked school, and she always understood why I hated it – to have to go to the same place every day for years and years whether you like it or not!!! She liked young people, she listened to them, she got their voices right because she respected them and they made her laugh. Like all my mum’s work, the play’s depth and profundity are achieved through economy and humour, pockets of heartbreak and dialogue that falls easily out of the actors’ mouths.'
