Dr. Hayley Wickenheiser is one of the best female hockey players in the world. With seven world championships, six Olympic appearances, and five Olympic medals, she is a titan of sport and a leader both on and off the ice. She is a hero, an inspiration, and a mentor to so many young athletes, helping to make the dreams of young girls in hockey attainable. She accomplished all of this before a women's league existed and is now a shining light for women's hockey today. If there is one piece of advice for any parent, it is to diversify your child's friend group. Put them on different teams or in different camps. Do not stick with the same kids all year round. This includes boys too. Sh*t goes sideways. If you stick with one group from Kindergarten to Grade 12, there will be issues. You want your child to be able to walk away from an issue if needed. In four years one of our daughters will be 19. They are so reliant on us dropping them off and picking them up. Kids don't have to think that hard when moms are at home.
