How AI Can Support The Future Of Care - Special Care Show Podcast With Stable24 sept. 202600:09:45

AI-enabled tools can reduce the administrative burden of everyone working in a care home, allowing them more time to spend with residents and to grow the business.

On a special podcast supporting Care Home Management’s coverage of the Care Show in Birmingham (October 7-8), we talk to Welsh technology company Stable about how AI technology is helping care providers to work smarter.

Stable’s managing director Ryan Lewis explains how technology’s role is to be invisible as it reduces manual tasks so carers can spend more time building empathetic relationships with residents.

He describes the company's product Sgript which records meetings and visits - whether in-person, hybrid, or online - and the conversations are then transcribed and analysed. The software then automatically generates the required outputs such as care plans, assessments, reports or letters to families, which are tailored to an organisation’s templates and branding.

Lewis adds that the technology completes around 80% of a document, with humans still involved in reviewing and refining the information.

During a three-month study, care providers revealed that some staff were spending up to 40% of their time on administration. Where Sgript was used by a provider in South Wales, the users reported an 85% improvement in the quality of the information being generated, a 50% rise in wellbeing and a 75% jump in feeling more positive as a workforce.

No Room For Error: Where Medication Management In Care Is Heading23 sept. 202600:10:50

Care Home Management continues its series of special Care Show podcasts by talking to Lawrence Bevan at MED e-care about how to reduce medication errors.

Lawrence is senior care systems executive at the specialist eMAR provider, and he says care homes can reduce medication errors by investing in technology that provides carers with clear and real-time information at the point of care.

In the podcast we discuss how while many providers have modernised care planning, the medication process has lagged behind.

Bevan discusses how by digitalising medication workflows, providers can support the ‘five rights’ of administration. These are: Right Patient, Right Medication, Right Dose, Right Route and Right Time.

He adds that technology reduces the risk of many common errors, including incorrect dosing or the wrong timing which can lead to serious under- or over-medication.  Another common error is omitted doses which can be caused by stock shortages.

MED e-care, which works with large providers such as Bupa, Care UK, Prime Life and Abbey Total Care, says its system also provides data and operational insight through dashboards so providers can identify patterns such as repeated refusals, emerging adherence issues, or recurring stock gaps.

The Future Of Care Catering: How the Right Partner Can Transform Dining Experiences08 sept. 202600:19:20

In our latest podcast we talk to Laura Tighe, business director at White Oaks, about the benefits of improving the catering experience for residents.

She provides expert advice on how catering must be about more than just calories, and how by partnering with a company like White Oaks it can support nutrition, hydration, medication management, social interaction and mental health.

White Oaks is a senior living division within Compass Group UK & Ireland, and also provides services such as housekeeping, laundry and grounds maintenance to care homes.

Tighe talks about White Oaks’ outsourced model where it provides kitchen staff, menu design and themed events. She also explains the company’s Procurement Plus service which allows care providers to retain in-house catering teams but purchase through Compass’s extensive procurement system.

The podcast also touches on:

·        Reducing food waste

·        Optimising kitchen workflows

·        Reducing costs

·        Improving food quality

CQC Pressure Is Growing - Could Drainage And Plumbing Be The Missing Piece - Special Podcast05 mai 202600:21:23

In the latest Care Home Management magazine podcast, host Steve Hemsley talks to Metro Rod managing director Steve Chambers about why drainage and plumbing are often overlooked elements of care home governance, risk management and CQC outcomes.

Chambers discusses how many care providers only think about drainage and plumbing when something goes wrong. However, failures can shut down kitchens, toilets, heating and hot water, directly impacting residents’ safety, dignity and infection control.

He urges preventative maintenance with best practice including:

  • Asset mapping to understand where a care home’s drains, manholes and lines run
  • Regular servicing and CCTV surveys of drains and grease traps, especially in kitchens producing high meal volumes
  • Paying specific attention to older buildings with clay or cast iron pipes prone to scale, cracking and root ingress
  • Routine checks and servicing of boilers and TMVs (thermostatic mixing valves) every six months to prevent scalding and maintain water pressure.

Chambers also explains why problems often appear at night and why care homes need a reliable primary and backup contractor, with genuine out-of-hours response.

On CQC performance, he links good ratings to trained staff who can spot early warning signs (smells, slow drains, refilling toilets), have documented crisis plans, and understand compliance with food waste and drainage regulations.

Care Home Management’s series of Care Show London special podcasts continues with an interview with Nicole Ridgwell, partner at law firm Lester Aldridge and a specialist in health and social care law.

She explains how increased enforcement activity by CQC, including around inquests, means care homes require robust legal support.

Nicole outlines how care providers have been affected by the difficult rollout of CQC’s Single Assessment Framework which has encountered issues with the framework design and its practical application, leading to rollback and delays.

She provides important advice for care homes as the sector waits for new documents to be published.

Nicole talks about the significant rise in enforcement action around inquests and why it is therefore crucial care homes have robust and clearly presented records.

From Guesswork To Evidence: Why Data-Based Benchmarking Will Transform Care - Special Podcast With PCS14 avr. 202600:11:19

In another special Care Show London podcast, Care Home Management’s publishing editor Steve Hemsley talks to Person Centred Software’s programme director, Care Intelligence, Ashleigh Dueker.

They discuss how the care sector is moving from instinct-based decision making to taking more evidence-based choices thanks to better use of data and benchmarking.

Ashleigh explains how the company will deliver a keynote speech and provide demonstrations of its IQ:careintelligence software solution at Care Show London.

She talks about how by using benchmarking, care leaders can see how their homes compare with similar providers on care quality, staffing, operations, and outcomes, rather than relying on assumptions.

PCS’s platform aggregates billions of data points entered by carers and transforms the information into anonymised benchmarks and actionable insights across different areas. These include operational performance, compliance and care outcomes.

Top Assisted Bathing Trends That Won't Drain Your Budget - Special Podcast23 juin 202500:24:29

Care homes can save time and money be reassessing how they replace and maintain their assisted baths and showers.

This is the message from moving and handling experts Medaco on the special Care Home Management podcast: ‘Top Assisted Bathing Trends That Won’t Drain Your Budget’.

Medaco is vendor-neutral, and operations director Steve Smallridge says the overall design on baths has not changed much during the company’s 40 years supporting care homes, but there are now many more options.

He adds that most baths last between 10-15 years, and providers need to decide when it is the most cost-effective time to replace assets rather than keep repairing them.

Most care homes will replace baths one at a time and it is important to be aware of wear and tear, especially when it comes to infection control and prevention.

Many baths are used for therapy nowadays as well as for general cleanliness, with features such as LED lights, spa and Bluetooth music options becoming more popular.

Showers are also becoming a more popular choice for care homes and for residents as part of any en-suite facility.

Installation manager Dave Hyde explains how new baths can be installed with minimum disruption, with many fixed in a resident’s room within one day.  He also works with a nationwide team of engineers who advise care homes on how to get the most from their baths for longer.
