EPISODE 125 - Clark and John welcome back podcast fan favorite, Will, to the show and they get right into it off the top by discussing the recent news that Fanatics is bring back basketball cards under the Topps brand after a more than decade hiatus.

The guys then get into Hobby Headlines talking about whole Beckett grading scale fiasco – more specifically, what they thought about the initial proposed idea (ie. Mint+ grade) before Beckett retracted, and which alternate solutions they like best (including a very convoluted suggestion from Will himself!)

EPISODE 223 - Clark, Hyung, and John open the show talking about Walmart getting into the hobby space by launching its own collectibles platform. And John offers a couple of ideas for Walmart to best succeed especially if it's competing against eBay.

Then the guys take a look at the PSA All-Star baseball roster for the AL and NL, which is based on the most-graded baseball cards for each position during the 2024 season so far. There's one big surprise in the AL pitching position and the difference from the real MLB All-Star roster vs the PSA list make for interesting discussion.

EPISODE 123 - Clark and Hyung welcome Chris Begg, who pitched for Team Canada in both the Summer Olympics and the World Baseball Classic (WBC), as a guest host for this Friday episode. He shared his perspective on the WBC having pitched in the inaugural year (2006) and how the game is today. Plus, Chris talked about how he got into sports cards at a young age, opening up a card store with his brother in the basement of their mother's gift basket business.

With the MLB Opening Day kicking off this week, the guys discussed the major rule changes in baseball this season (ie. pitch clock, bigger bases, ban on shifts) and whether they thought it would attract more fans and viewers to the game (and subsequently if it would get more people to collect baseball cards).

Then they shared their thoughts on the big Fanatics announcement in partnership with MLB about all rookies this year wearing a special "MLB Debut" patch, which will then be taken off the jersey and inserted into a 1/1 trading card.

EPISODE 113 - Clark and John open the show by first commenting on how the Babe Ruth cut autograph error card was resolved by Panini America. Then John gives props to LeBron James for being the all-time scoring leader and weighs in about whether it's a good time to pick up one of his rookie cards.

EPISODE 112 - Clark, Hyung, and John open the show talking about Hyung's latest hobby feat, which is to collect all three of the PSA 10 Fernando Tatis Jr. Topps Independence Day rookie card. Hyung shares how he acquired all those cards and what he intends to do with them now that he's complete the set. 

Then on to Hobby Headlines, the guys have some fun by ranking some of the more recent "error cards" from 0 being a minor mistake to 10 being a colossal one. To kick off the segment, they discuss the Babe Ruth cut autograph booklet card that mistakenly contained the George Brett cut autograph instead. On a side note, they also touch upon a Mike Trout 2009 Bowman Chrome Orange Refractor rookie card /25, which has an autograph that was re-signed by Trout after it was initially removed. They answer whether they would buy the card knowing that fact, which is up for auction on Goldin.

And with the Super Bowl fast approaching, Clark, Hyung, and John, play "Buy/Sell/Hold" with four quarterbacks who have made it to the football's biggest event. The QB cards they talk about include Jalen Hurts, Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, and Joe Burrow.

EPISODE 111 - For this Friday episode, Clark, Hyung, and John talk about how they were all way off in predicting the final sale of the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle (SGC 8) baseball card sold at Heritage Auctions for $600,000. They discuss whether it was a steal at that price especially knowing the population count of some of the other well-graded Mantle rookie card.

Then the guys respond to the recent news of Fanatics announcing its plans to enter the livestream shopping space including offering "breaks" to consumers directly. The obvious question arises whether breakers should start to worry or even other companies like Whatnot that provide a similar service.

And finally, the show Break Point which features the next generation of tennis players looking to become number one.

EPISODE 99 - Clark, Hyung and John talk about their initial thoughts on the newly released 2022 Topps Chrome Sapphire Baseball Set and the fact it doesn't come with an autograph hit this year. 

Then the guys discuss some recent sales of big time sports cards, how much it's dropped since the peak of the hobby hype, but also how much it's increased if you had bought the card pre-hobby boom, and deciding what they would do with the card if they still owned one.

For example, the Tom Brady 2000 Playoff Contenders rookie autograph card (BGS 8.5) sold for $6,500 in January 2018, sold for $84,000 during the hobby peak in January 2022, but came back down in December 2022 for $25,100 (a nice 4X if you bought pre-hobby hype, but a major loss if you bought at the 2022 peak).

EPISODE 98 - Clark, Hyung, and John make their World Cup predictions off the top of the show, and they discuss which players in the tournament might have seen a bump in their card values due to their performance at the World Cup.

Then in this week's Hobby Headlines, the guys react to two of the major hobby announcements made recently, which include: the Topps MVP Buyback Program that gives collectors a chance to redeem store credit at their local card shop if they find either an Aaron Judge or Paul Goldschmidt baseball card from the 2022 Topps Chrome set. 

The other announcement was the partnership between SGC and Topps where any card from the 2022 Bowman Chrome baseball set could be graded by SGC for $9 US regardless of declared value and without a minimum number of cards to be submitted. 

Then Clark, Hyung and John play "Quiz Show" – a new segment in which Clark asks a question about current hobby trends (ie. Which of the four major sports has seen the biggest decrease/increase in card value according to the CardLadder index?) and Hyung and John try to answer correctly.

EPISODE 97 - Clark, Hyung, and John discuss the recent $3.1 million sale of the Luka Doncic National Treasures Logoman card and whether it was a steal and could be flipped for a bigger profit in the future or if the buyer was way too optimistic about Luka's generational talent and overpaid.

In this week's Hobby Headlines, the guys share what they think it would take for newer grading companies to steal significant market share from the big three (ie. PSA, BGS, SGC). And they also talk about their first impressions of TAG Grading and Arena Club, and how they like their chances of making a dent in the grading world.

EPISODE 95 - Clark welcomes Hyung back to the podcast after being away for a couple of weeks to coach the Canada Junior National Baseball Team. Hyung gave an update on how the tournament went as well as some potential prospects he saw in action that might be more familiar to baseball card collectors in a few years if they continue to rake.

In this week's Hobby Headlines, Clark talks about his experience attending the recent Sports Card Expo in Toronto. The guys then discuss some general ideas on how to improve live card shows, especially during this bear market when many dealers aren't buying as actively as they did before (or doing so at 60% comps). 

Then Clark and Hyung bring back the Buy/Sell/Hold segment going over a list of three players who are trending upwards in their card values (ie. Jalen Hurts; Justin Fields; Tyrese Maxey) and three players whose card values are crashing over the past month (ie. Spencer Torkelson; Wayne Gretzky; Cade Cunningham).

EPISODE 94 - Clark, John, and Will take another stab at guessing the final sale price of another super high-end card – This time it's the Luka Doncic 1/1 Logoman that was up for auction on PWCC. They discuss whether getting it less than $4.6 million (which is what it sold for in March 2021) is a good deal or if it's crazy to buy high-end cards in this bear market.

Then in this week's Hobby Headlines, the guys talk about set collecting on a budget as a way to have fun in the hobby more as a collector than an investor (especially with current investments in sports cards being more risky during the bear market.) Some ideas of what fellow collectors could try to build a set in while some of the card prices are low include: insert card sets from the junk wax era for those who are nostalgic about the hobby; non-rookie patch autograph cards of players from your home country (ie. Canadian basketball players); and second- or third-year cards of stud players.

The guys then get into a new segment called, "Worth A Flyer," where they suggest a couple of players and cards that seem to be dirt cheap right now that might be worth gambling on to see a nice return in the future. But they stipulate it might also go down to zero, which they would be okay with since it's not a big investment to begin with.

Plus he talks about how the famous New York Yankees legend has brought his competitiveness from the diamond into the hobby when it comes to negotiating sports card trades.
