The Man Who Made Me Feel Safe: Our Love Story After 25 Years of Marriage14 juil. 202600:34:42

This is an unexpectedly emotional, funny and somewhat oversharing episode where I end up crying! Today marks 25 years of marriage to my husband, Jason, so naturally I dragged him into the studio to tell the story of how we actually ended up together, warts and all, and I promise it's a goody!

We had known each other for years. We were best friends. The timing was never right. And when something finally did happen, Jason promptly suggested we should probably forget the whole thing and stay friends.

Thankfully, I had other ideas.

This is a very unfiltered conversation about university days, terrible 90s fashion, an extremely awkward first date, a proposal that did not go remotely to plan and what 25 years of marriage really looks like.

There is plenty of laughing, bickering and Jason taking the mickey out of my love of manifestation, Reiki, sound healing and anything involving energy or frequency.

But somewhere along the way, the conversation becomes far more emotional than either of us expected.

We talk about love through depression, miscarriage, cancer and some of the hardest years of our lives, as well as the extraordinary healing power of feeling genuinely safe with another person.

It is funny, honest, slightly chaotic and very us.

And yes, I cried.

The Harry Styles Effect07 juil. 202600:19:03

In this episode of Cancer Cured Me, I’m talking about love, but not in the smoochy, romantic sense. This is about the kind of love you feel in your whole body, the collective, all-consuming, joy-filled energy that reminds you what it feels like to be fully alive.

After attending Harry Styles’ record-breaking 12-night run at Wembley Stadium, I wanted to share what I experienced inside that stadium, because it was so much more than a concert. It was live music, nervous system regulation, sound healing, freedom, identity, inclusion, joy, connection and pure magic, all wrapped into one unforgettable experience.

I talk about the power of live music and why it can move us so deeply, from the vibration of sound in the body to the way singing, humming and music can support the nervous system. Whether it’s Harry Styles, Coldplay, Taylor Swift, a local band in the park or your favourite song in the car, music has the power to shift our state, lift us out of darkness and bring us back to ourselves.

I also share the story behind my Harry Styles ticket giveaway, the beautiful messages I received from strangers, the winner’s magical birthday experience with her mum and the reminder that joy is contagious, love is healing and kindness can ripple much further than we realise.

This episode is about permission. Permission to have fun, to be childlike, to dance with strangers, to sing at the top of your voice, to follow what lights you up and to create more moments of love in your everyday life.

In this episode, I talk about:

Harry Styles at Wembley and the magic of live music

The healing power of collective joy and shared experiences

Why music, singing and humming can support nervous system regulation

Sound, frequency, vibration and why music can feel so powerful in the body

The emotional power of concerts, connection and community

The Harry Styles ticket giveaway and the beautiful stories it brought into my life

Why fun, freedom and childlike joy matter so much for our wellbeing

How to create more feelings of love, joy and aliveness in everyday life

I also give a little preview of next week’s very special episode with my husband Jason Simms, as we celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and share the story of how we got together.

The Other Side of Fear Is Everything You Want30 juin 202600:12:20

In this mini episode, I’m exploring fear, not the obvious kind, but the quiet, everyday fear that keeps us small.

I share what I learnt from watching my husband Jase perform stand-up at The Comedy Store, and a powerful moment I witnessed at HX26 when a woman who had always dreamed of singing found the courage to sing in front of a huge audience.

This episode is about intuition, nervous system safety, limiting beliefs, courage, purpose and what happens when we stop waiting to feel fearless and choose to feel everything and rise.

If this lands with you, I’d love you to get in touch and tell me what you fear and what you want to move through.

HX26: What Andrew Huberman, Roxie Nafousi, Dave Asprey, Peter Crone & David Ghiyam Taught Me About Healing, Manifestation and the Nervous System23 juin 202600:27:37

For the free PDF summary of my Healf HX26 highlights and practical applications you can use for yourself in the simplest of ways, CLICK HERE or dm me on Instagram @cancercuredme

In this episode, I’m sharing my personal takeaways from HX26 by Healf - a huge wellness, health, biohacking and longevity event in London, where I was lucky enough to hear from some incredible speakers including Dr Andrew Huberman, Roxie Nafousi, Dave Asprey, Peter Crone and David Ghiyam.

This isn’t a full conference roundup, because honestly, there was so much going on and only so many hours in the day, but this is my own personal summary of the speakers I saw, the messages that really landed for me, and how I think we can bring some of these ideas into real life without making wellness feel like yet another thing on the to-do list.

I talk about Andrew Huberman’s reminder that science, prayer, intuition and miracles do not have to sit in separate boxes. I share what landed for me from Roxie Nafousi’s work on manifestation, self-worth, gratitude and becoming the version of yourself who can actually receive what you say you want. I also talk about Dave Asprey’s message around fear, forgiveness and where we are leaking our energy, Peter Crone’s incredible work around the thoughts and beliefs that quietly shape our lives, and David Ghiyam’s teachings around soul purpose, receiving and the patterns we are here to move through.

The thread running through all of it, for me, was this:

The body matters.

The breath matters.

The nervous system matters.

Belief matters.

Light matters.

Forgiveness matters.

Gratitude matters.

Receiving matters.

Intuition matters.

And the state you are living from shapes the life you are able to create.

As always, I bring it back to the nervous system, because before we try to manifest, optimise, biohack, forgive, receive or change our lives, we have to ask:

Does my body feel safe enough for this?

I’ve also put together a simple guide with my key HX26 takeaways and a reset practice you can use in your own life. If you’d like a copy, click the link in the show notes or message me on Instagram and I’ll send it over.

In this episode, I talk about:

  • My personal takeaways from Healf HX26 in London
  • Andrew Huberman on neuroscience, prayer, intuition and miracles
  • Roxie Nafousi on manifestation, gratitude and becoming available to receive
  • Dave Asprey on fear, forgiveness, energy and longevity
  • Peter Crone on the beliefs and stories that keep us stuck
  • David Ghiyam on Kabbalah, soul purpose, receiving and repeated patterns
  • Why nervous system safety is the foundation for real change
  • How breathwork, gratitude, forgiveness and receiving can shift your state
  • Why you cannot outsource your own inner knowing
  • Simple practices to bring these big wellness ideas into everyday life

If this episode speaks to you and you’d like to go a little deeper, I’m now offering my Personal Reset Method alongside lymphatic drainage locally in Berkhamsted and Hertfordshire, as well as deeper VIP reset sessions and retreats.

Manifestation, Comfort Zones and Doing the Thing Before Life Forces You To16 juin 202600:09:49

In this solo episode of Cancer Cured Me, I’m talking about manifestation, comfort zones and what can happen when you finally decide to stop playing small.

After setting an intention under the full moon, I was invited to give a paid wellbeing talk on nervous system regulation, breathwork and wellness - exactly nine years to the day since my cancer diagnosis.

I’m also sharing the very funny story of my husband Jase doing a stand-up comedy course at The Comedy Store and somehow making me, my wellness business and all my breathwork ways the centre of his set.

This episode is a reminder not to wait for a crisis, a cancer diagnosis or a huge life shake-up before you do the thing you’ve always wanted to do.

9 Years After My Cancer Diagnosis, This Happened09 juin 202600:03:36

This is a very short solo episode to celebrate episode 80 of Cancer Cured Me - and I had to share this story because honestly, you could not make it up.

I recorded this on 9th June 2026.

That date is my husband’s birthday.

It is also exactly nine years to the day since I was diagnosed with cancer.

And just over a week before this anniversary, I received a message from the school where I used to work when I got that diagnosis.

They invited me back to speak to their women’s empowerment group about wellness, breathwork and nervous system regulation.

A paid speech.

On the exact same date.

In the exact same place.

Nine years later.

I mean… come on.

In this episode, I share the full-circle story of going back to the place where my life changed completely, but this time as a cancer survivor, a wellness speaker and a very different version of myself.

It’s a little story about synchronicity, healing, purpose and those moments in life that make you stop and think, “Okay, something bigger is definitely going on here.”

Thank you for being here for 80 episodes. I’m so grateful.

In this episode I talk about:

  • Why this 80th episode felt like the perfect moment to share this story
  • The significance of 9th June in my life
  • The joke my husband always makes about my cancer diagnosis being the worst birthday present
  • Being invited back to the school where I was working when I was diagnosed
  • Why the timing of the talk felt so powerful
  • Speaking about wellness, breathwork and nervous system regulation to a room full of women
  • What it means to come full circle after a life-changing diagnosis
  • Why I feel more ready than ever to do this work

Encore: Lisa Johnson on Bullying, Self-Belief and Making Millions with Integrity02 juin 202600:34:36

This is an encore episode of Cancer Cured Me with the incredible Lisa Johnson - global business strategist, public speaker, Sunday Times bestselling author and host of a number one podcast.

Lisa has built a hugely successful multi-million pound business, but her self-belief did not begin there. In this powerful conversation, she shares how she grew up in poverty, was chronically bullied throughout her childhood for being poor and spent years believing the cruel things other people had said about her.

What makes Lisa’s story so moving is not just the success she has created, but the inner work it took to get there. She talks openly about bullying, low self-esteem, domestic violence, money mindset, entrepreneurship, online trolling and the moment she decided to ask herself: “What if they’re wrong?”

This episode is a beautiful reminder that self-belief is not always something we magically wake up with. Sometimes it is something we rebuild, piece by piece, through action, evidence, purpose and learning to know who we are - even when the world has tried to tell us otherwise.

Lisa also shares the practices that helped her build what she calls a rock-solid core of self-belief, including the importance of understanding your money story, finding proof that people like you can succeed and learning to love all parts of yourself - not just the neat, polished, socially acceptable bits.

We also talk about why money should be a by-product of impact, why the online business world needs more integrity and why Lisa’s work is now deeply rooted in service, purpose and changing the industry for the better.

This is an episode for anyone who has ever felt knocked down by other people’s opinions, held back by old stories or unsure whether they are really capable of the life they secretly want.

Because sometimes the most powerful question we can ask is: what if they were wrong?

In this episode, we talk about:

  • Lisa Johnson’s childhood experience of being bullied for being poor
  • How bullying can shape self-esteem and self-belief
  • The moment Lisa decided to prove to herself that the bullies were wrong
  • Building confidence through action and evidence
  • Money mindset and the hidden beliefs that can limit our income
  • Why Lisa talks openly about money and business success
  • How she built a multi-million pound business
  • The emotional reality of entrepreneurship
  • Dealing with online trolling and criticism
  • Lisa’s practice for building inner confidence and self-acceptance
  • Why external validation can never be the foundation of self-belief
  • Turning pain into purpose
  • Why money is a by-product of impact
  • Bringing more integrity into the online business space
  • Lisa’s advice to her younger self: live as if you are already cancelled

Encore: Nervous System Regulation, Anxiety & Feeling Safe in Your Own Body with Georgie Shears26 mai 202601:02:51

This week’s episode is a very special encore with the brilliant Georgie Shears, nervous system strategist and ICF accredited neurosomatics practitioner.

I wanted to bring this conversation back because nervous system regulation is one of those things I genuinely believe we all need to understand. Not in a complicated, “add another thing to your already overflowing to-do list” kind of way, but in a deeply human, practical, life-changing way.

In this episode, Georgie explains what nervous system regulation actually means, why we are not meant to feel calm all the time and how our bodies learn survival patterns that can keep us stuck in anxiety, panic, people pleasing, overwhelm or shutdown.

We talk about fight or flight, rest and digest, the vagus nerve, why mindset alone is not always enough and how simple body-based practices can help us feel safer, calmer and more connected to ourselves.

Georgie also shares her own powerful story of anxiety, panic attacks, postnatal depression, health anxiety and the moment she realised she needed to understand what was happening in her body - not just her mind.

This is such a useful episode if you have ever felt like you are constantly bracing, overthinking, reacting, people pleasing or living with that low-level hum of anxiety in the background.

And as always, this is not about fixing yourself. It is about understanding yourself.

In this episode, we talk about:
  • What nervous system regulation really means
  • Why you are not meant to be regulated all the time
  • Fight, flight, freeze and shutdown
  • The difference between the thinking brain and the body’s survival system
  • Why anxiety can become a learned survival pattern
  • How stress affects digestion, immunity, sleep and energy
  • Why nervous system tools need to meet you where you are
  • The power of nature, grounding and simple sensory practices
  • The vagus nerve and why it matters
  • How people pleasing can be a nervous system response
  • Simple practices you can use straight away to come back into the present moment

A simple takeaway from the episode

Your body is not working against you. It is trying to protect you.

Nervous system work is about gently showing your body that you are safe now, one small moment at a time.

Georgie’s simple nervous system tools

In the episode, Georgie shares two beautifully simple practices you can try:

The 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 presence practice

A grounding tool using your senses to bring your body back into the present moment.

A gentle ear massage to support the vagus nerve

A calming practice that can help send signals of safety through the body.

As Georgie says, even a 1% shift matters.

Connect with Georgie

You can find Georgie on Instagram: @georgieshearsstrategist

Georgie also shares free resources, tools and ways to work with her through the link in her Instagram bio.

Listen if you are searching for:

nervous system regulation, anxiety support, fight or flight, vagus nerve, somatic healing, trauma-informed wellbeing, emotional regulation, nervous system tools, burnout recovery, people pleasing, stress relief, rest and digest, grounding practices, women’s wellness, midlife wellbeing, holistic health podcast.

Based on the transcript you shared for the Georgie Shears encore episode.

Encore: Women's Health Expert Adele Wimsett on Perimenopause, ADHD and Hormone Health19 mai 202600:57:37

This week I’m sharing a very special encore episode with the wonderful Adele Wimsett (ignore the early days production values!). I wanted to bring this conversation back because the content is still so valid, so important and so needed. Adele is a women’s health practitioner and cyclical living guide who specialises in perimenopause, ADHD and hormone health, and she has been a hugely important part of my own healing journey. I’m also absolutely thrilled that Adele will be joining us at the Held Retreat in the Cotswolds from 25-28 September, where she’ll be running one of her fantastic workshops for the women attending. For more information www.lalaloves.com

In this episode, we talk about why hormones are not just about periods or fertility. They affect your mood, energy, brain, nervous system, sleep, joints, skin, immunity and so much more. Adele explains why progesterone is so important for emotional regulation, why stress can have such an impact on hormone balance and why so many women reach midlife feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, anxious or not quite themselves.

We also explore why perimenopause can feel especially intense for women with ADHD, how cyclical living can help us stop expecting ourselves to feel the same every day, and why simple things like morning light, protein at breakfast, blood sugar balance and nervous system tools can make such a difference.

This conversation is full of those “oh my goodness, that’s me” moments. It is not about perfection or another impossible wellness routine. It is about understanding your body, working with yourself rather than against yourself and realising that you are not broken.

The HELD Retreat 25-28 September 2026

Held is a luxury retreat for women who are ready to pause, reset, reconnect and feel deeply supported. Adele’s workshop is such an important part of the retreat because this work is exactly what so many women need - clear, grounded education about their bodies, hormones, nervous systems and how to start feeling more like themselves again.

In this episode we talk about:

  • Perimenopause and ADHD
  • Women’s hormone health
  • Progesterone, mood and nervous system regulation
  • Stress, cortisol and adrenal health
  • Blood sugar and midlife wellbeing
  • Cyclical living
  • PMDD and PCOS
  • Morning light and protein at breakfast
  • Why women need to stop pushing through

ADHD in Women, RSD and Why You’re Not “Too Sensitive” with Kristen Carder (Encore)12 mai 202600:54:13

In this encore episode of Cancer Cured Me, I’m joined by Kristen Carder, host of the I Have ADHD podcast, for a brutally honest and deeply validating conversation about ADHD in women, rejection sensitive dysphoria, emotional regulation, masking, parenting and learning to trust yourself again. We talk about why rejection can feel so painful, why ADHD mothers can be triggered by seeing their own struggles mirrored in their children and why you are not broken, lazy or “too sensitive”. A must-listen for women with ADHD, anyone exploring a late ADHD diagnosis and anyone who wants to understand RSD, nervous system regulation and self-compassion more deeply.

In this episode, we talk about:
  • ADHD in women and why so many are diagnosed later in life
  • Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria, also known as RSD
  • Why rejection sensitivity can feel so painful and physical
  • The link between childhood criticism, masking and adult ADHD shame
  • Why ADHD parenting can be so triggering
  • Repairing after you’ve snapped at your child
  • The difference between ADHD symptoms and everyday struggles
  • Why “everyone gets distracted” is not the same as having ADHD
  • Emotional regulation and nervous system support
  • Therapy, coaching and medication for ADHD
  • Self-soothing tools for rejection spirals
  • Why the first sting of rejection may still happen, even when you’ve done a lot of healing
  • ADHD, perfectionism and the pressure to be palatable
  • Why women with ADHD often lose their voice, their “no” and their sense of self
  • How to start building self-trust again

Kristen’s simple tool for rejection sensitivity

Kristen suggests:

First, honour the sting.

Don’t shame yourself for feeling hurt. Don’t tell yourself you’re being ridiculous. Don’t try to bulldoze the feeling away with “positive thinking” or any other nonsense that makes you want to throw a cushion across the room.

Let yourself acknowledge it.

Then soothe your body.

That might be breathing, placing a hand on your chest, asking someone safe for a hug, stepping outside or doing something that helps your nervous system settle.

Then, once your body has calmed down, check your thoughts.

Ask yourself:

Was this an actual rejection?

Or have I created a rejection story in my mind?

Because sometimes someone really has been unkind or dismissive. But very often, especially with ADHD and RSD, we are reacting to a scenario our brain has created to protect us.

It’s clever. It’s exhausting. And it is not always accurate.

About Kristen Carder

Kristen Carder is an ADHD coach, host of the I Have ADHD podcast and founder of Focused, a global coaching programme and community for adults with ADHD.

After being diagnosed with ADHD at 21, Kristen spent years learning how ADHD actually affects adult life, relationships, work, parenting, emotional regulation and self-trust. Through her podcast, coaching and community, she helps adults with ADHD feel less alone and learn practical ways to support themselves.

You can find Kristen here:

Podcast: I Have ADHD

Instagram: @i.have.adhd.podcast

Programme: Focused ADHD coaching programme

Listen if you’re looking for support with:

ADHD in women, adult ADHD, late ADHD diagnosis, rejection sensitive dysphoria, RSD, emotional regulation, nervous system regulation, ADHD parenting, ADHD mothers, ADHD and shame, ADHD and self-trust, masking in women, ADHD coaching, trauma-informed ADHD support, neurodivergence, ADHD relationships and feeling too sensitive.

Final words from me

This episode is such a gorgeous reminder that healing doesn’t mean never being triggered again.

It doesn’t mean never snapping, spiralling, overthinking or feeling that awful sting of rejection.

It means noticing sooner.

Repairing quicker.

Understanding yourself more gently.

And slowly, slowly learning that you are allowed to be human.

You are a human being, not a human doing.

And if this episode helps you feel even a tiny bit more understood, then I am so glad you’re here.

An Apology to Fearne Cotton: People Pleasing, Panic Attacks and Knowing When to Pause05 mai 202600:21:04

I owe Fearne Cotton an apology.

Years ago, I judged her after seeing one tiny moment from the outside. But after hearing her speak so honestly about people pleasing, panic attacks, public scrutiny, losing jobs and the pressure of being liked, I saw her completely differently.

In this solo episode, I talk about what Fearne’s words brought up for me, why people pleasing is often a nervous system response, and why so many women reach a point in midlife where they realise they can’t keep saying yes at the expense of themselves.

I also share why I’m pausing Cancer Cured Me after 75 episodes, what I’ve learned from creating this first long season, and how I’m putting more energy into The Wellness Collection, my non-profit CIC providing funded retreats and support for people recovering after cancer.

A very honest episode about judgement, burnout, boundaries, rest, purpose and knowing when to pause.

Please keep messaging while we're on our break - I always love hearing from you and will get back to everyone personally.

Big love, La x

Cancer Took Her Nose, But Not Her Voice - Vikki Feltham's Inspirational Story28 avr. 202601:04:56

To mark Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Month, I’m joined by the incredible Vikki Feltham - a senior leader, speaker and advocate whose story is one of the most powerful conversations I’ve ever had on Cancer Cured Me.

At 34, after almost five years of nosebleeds, pain and being repeatedly told it was nothing serious, Vikki was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma inside her nose. Her life-saving treatment meant losing her nose, followed by chemotherapy, radiotherapy and a long physical and emotional recovery.

But this episode is not only about cancer. It is about identity, visible difference, self-advocacy, motherhood, medical gaslighting, confidence and what happens when life strips you back to the rawest version of yourself.

Vikki shares how she went from hiding at home after treatment to using her story on TikTok, speaking publicly, working with cancer organisations and becoming an advocate for earlier diagnosis and better patient-led support.

We talk about the loneliness after treatment ends, the cliff edge so many cancer patients face, how visible difference changes the way you move through the world, and why rebuilding after adversity is messy, brave and deeply human.

NHS guidance lists persistent one-sided blocked nose, nosebleeds, loss of smell and blood-stained mucus as possible symptoms of nasal and sinus cancer, although these symptoms can also be caused by less serious conditions. If something does not feel right, please keep asking questions and seek medical advice.

In this episode, we talk about:

  • The nosebleeds that began years before Vikki’s diagnosis
  • Being dismissed, misdiagnosed and lost in the system
  • The shock of being told she had head and neck cancer
  • Losing her nose as part of life-saving treatment
  • Chemotherapy, radiotherapy and the reality of recovery
  • The emotional cliff edge after treatment ends
  • Visible difference, confidence and learning to be seen again
  • How Vikki used TikTok to help others advocate for themselves
  • Why cancer recovery is not just physical
  • Rebuilding identity after trauma
  • Motherhood, purpose and choosing not to shrink your life
  • The power of saying, “If not me, then who?”

How to Break Negative Patterns and Habits Without Willpower21 avr. 202600:12:34

Why do you keep falling back into the same habits - no matter how hard you try?

It’s not a lack of discipline… this is what's keeping you stuck...

Today’s episode is for you if you’ve ever thought…

Why can’t I just change?

Why do I keep falling back into the same habits, the same patterns, the same behaviours - no matter how hard I try?

Because here’s the truth - it’s not that you’re lazy, undisciplined or lacking willpower.

There’s actually a much deeper reason behind it.

In this episode, I’m diving into the science of behaviour patterns - including the concept of Pavlov’s dog - and how your environment is quietly shaping your habits every single day without you even realising it.

Your home, your routines, even your kitchen or sofa… they’re not neutral spaces.

They’re full of emotional and behavioural triggers that keep you stuck in the same loops.

And once you understand this, everything starts to make sense.

I’m also sharing something I’ve personally noticed - how I can be one version of myself at home, and a completely different version of myself when I step away. More present, more regulated, more intentional.

And that’s where the real shift happens.

Because sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do isn’t try harder…

it’s step out of the environment that’s keeping you stuck.

In this episode, I talk about:

  • Why your habits aren’t a discipline problem
  • How your environment creates automatic behaviours
  • The link between dopamine, stress and daily patterns
  • Why you feel different on holiday (and what that tells you)
  • How to gently break negative patterns without force
  • The power of a “pattern interrupt” and why it changes everything
  • How retreats help reset your nervous system and create lasting change

This is exactly why I believe so deeply in the power of retreats.

Not as an escape - but as a reset.

A chance to step away from the noise, the pressure, the constant doing…

and finally hear yourself again.

Because when you remove the triggers, regulate your nervous system, and give yourself space -

you don’t just feel better…

You start to think differently.

You make clearer decisions.

You create new patterns that actually stick.

And once you’ve experienced that version of yourself…

you can’t un-know it.

How to Overcome Loneliness and Make Great Connections 14 avr. 202600:11:53

If you’ve been feeling more isolated than you expected… even with a full life, a busy schedule and constant digital connection - this episode will land.

Because something is shifting.

We are more “connected” than ever, yet so many people are quietly experiencing loneliness, disconnection and a lack of real community. And I’ve been feeling it too.

In this episode of Cancer Cured Me, I’m talking honestly about what I saw, felt and realised after pushing myself out of my comfort zone and stepping into a room full of people - in real life.

And what became incredibly clear is this:

We are not designed to do life alone.

And no amount of online interaction replaces genuine human connection.

In this episode, I share:

  • Why loneliness is becoming so common in the age of remote work and online business
  • How working from home and digital-first lives are impacting mental health and wellbeing
  • What I witnessed at a live networking event that completely shifted my perspective
  • The truth about AI - and why you are still the edge
  • Why in-person events, retreats and community spaces are becoming more important than ever
  • The role of connection in regulating your nervous system and supporting emotional wellbeing
  • How to overcome loneliness in simple, realistic ways
  • Why authenticity and being physically present with others changes everything
  • The power of shared experiences - from conversations to collective healing spaces

Let’s talk about what actually helps:

It doesn’t have to be something big.

It could be:

  • Saying yes to a local class or workshop
  • Walking into a room where you don’t know anyone (I did exactly that)
  • Joining a community, even if it feels slightly uncomfortable at first
  • Choosing an in-person experience over another night on the sofa

Because the shift that happens when you’re with people - not just messaging them - is immediate.

Your body feels it. Your energy changes. You remember what it feels like to belong.

A personal invitation from me:

I’m opening the waitlist for my next retreat in the Cotswolds this September - and it’s everything this episode speaks to.

A beautiful setting, designed to help you slow down properly.

Space to breathe, move, reset and reconnect.

But more than anything - it’s the women who come.

The conversations, the shared moments, the friendships that form so naturally when you’re in the right environment with the right people.

That’s the part you can’t manufacture online.

📍 25th - 28th September 2026

📍 The Cotswolds

If you want to be part of it:

DM me WAITLIST on Instagram @lalalovesretreats

or use the contact details below

www.lalaloves.com

Email: alex@balancedbodyandretreats.com

.

The takeaway:

Loneliness isn’t something to push through or ignore.

It’s a signal.

A signal that you need connection, community and real human interaction.

And the good news is - it’s closer than you think.

If this episode resonated, share it with someone who might need it.

And make one small move this week towards connection - you never know where it might lead.

Why A Healthy Lymphatic System Will Save Your Life And How To Achieve It07 avr. 202600:47:33

FIND YOUR NEAREST BODY BALLANCER LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE MASSAGE HERE (INCLUDING MY OWN CLINIC!) https://bodyballancer.co.uk/where-to-find-us/

I’m revisiting this episode because it is such an important one. So many of our health issues are caused by a compromised lymphatic system and yet we know very little about this vital part of our immune system.

This conversation with lymphatic expert, Jules Willcocks is one I truly believe is worth hearing, or hearing again. Jules shares one of the best explanations I’ve ever heard of how the lymphatic system works, using the powerful image of the body as an aquarium - and once you hear it, it really does all start to make sense.

Jules is the founder of Body Ballancer UK (medical grade lymphatic drainage systems owned and loved by celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston, Lady Gaga and many more) and a fountain of knowledge when it comes to lymphatic health, lymphatic drainage and why this often-overlooked system has such a huge impact on how we feel day to day. In this episode, we break it all down in a really simple way - what the lymphatic system actually is, why it matters so much for immunity, inflammation and detoxification, and what signs might suggest it is not working as well as it could.

We also talk about the connection between the lymphatic system and recurring illness, swelling, headaches, allergies, cellulite, gut health, post-surgery healing and even recovery after cancer treatment. If you have ever wondered why you feel puffy, run down, inflamed or like your body is struggling to keep up, this episode could open your eyes.

In this episode, we cover:

  • what the lymphatic system is and why so many people know so little about it
  • why the lymphatic system is vital for immune health and detoxification
  • common signs of poor lymphatic flow including colds, allergies, headaches, dull skin, bloating and swelling
  • the connection between lymphatic health, inflammation and overall wellbeing
  • how movement, deep breathing, hydration and dry body brushing can help support lymphatic drainage
  • what manual lymphatic drainage is and why it can be so beneficial
  • why lymphatic support can be especially important after surgery and cancer treatment
  • how compression therapy and the Body Ballancer work
  • the aesthetic benefits of supporting lymphatic flow, including reducing puffiness, fluid retention and cellulite
  • why supporting your lymphatic system may help you feel lighter, clearer and better in your body

This is such an important conversation because we are simply not taught enough about the lymphatic system, despite how central it is to our health. Whether you are interested in reducing inflammation, supporting your immune system, improving recovery, easing fluid retention or simply understanding your body better, I hope this episode helps you.

As always, this podcast is here to share stories, wisdom and tools that might support your healing and help you feel more empowered in your health.

If this episode resonates, please do share it with someone who might need it

How To Have Boundaries Without Upsetting People31 mars 202600:57:17

We revisit this important gem of an episode delving into the complexities of people pleasing and the importance of setting boundaries with psychotherapist and boundaries expert Elsie Owen. We explore how people pleasing often stems from a desire for emotional safety and the impact of childhood experiences on these behaviours. Our discussion highlights the necessity of self-regulation and the strategies for establishing healthy boundaries in relationships. Elsie shares insights from her course, emphasising the importance of pausing and reflecting before responding to social pressures, ultimately guiding listeners towards a more authentic and balanced way of living. We even answer the important question: "how can I have boundaries and not upset people?"

Key takeaways:

  • People pleasing is often about regulating our own discomfort rather than genuinely caring for others.
  • Setting boundaries is crucial for emotional safety and self-regulation.
  • Identifying whether actions stem from kindness or obligation is key to overcoming people pleasing.
  • Childhood experiences significantly shape our people pleasing behaviours.
  • Emotional safety is about feeling okay in social situations, not just physical safety.
  • Learning to pause before responding can help in setting boundaries.
  • It's important to recognise that we cannot control how others feel or react.
  • Creating secret boundaries can help ease the transition into more assertive communication.
  • Self-regulation is essential for maintaining healthy relationships and boundaries.
  • The journey of unlearning people pleasing behaviours is possible and empowering.

From Overwhelm to Clarity: Create Your Personalised Health Plan25 mars 202600:11:43

THE PERSONAL RESET METHOD - DM me RESET on Instagram @cancercuredme or email me at alex@balancedbodyandretreats.com

Early spots are £127 for the first few people, then £147

Today’s episode is for you if you’ve ever felt completely overwhelmed by the plethora of health advice out there… and just don’t know what to do first.

I hear this all the time.

You’re listening to the podcast, you’re following experts, you’re trying to do the right things - eat well, sleep more, move your body, regulate your nervous system - but it all starts to feel like too much.

And the truth is, it is too much.

We’re now consuming the equivalent of around 54 newspapers worth of information every single day. No wonder we feel scattered, overstimulated and unsure where to focus.

So in this episode, I’m sharing how I personally cut through that noise.

Not by doing more.

Not by following every trend.

But by simplifying everything down to what actually matters for me - and how I now help others do the same.

Because your health isn’t one-size-fits-all.

And the real shift happens when you stop trying to do everything… and start focusing on what’s right for you.

I also introduce something I’ve created called The Personal Reset Plan - a simple, personalised way to help you get clear on your priorities without adding more to your plate.

Think of it as someone finally helping you filter everything out.

In this episode, I talk about:
  • Why modern health advice feels so overwhelming
  • The “54 newspapers a day” reality and what it’s doing to your brain
  • Why more information isn’t the answer to better health
  • How to stop the constant cycle of “I should be doing more”
  • The power of simplifying your health into 3–5 key priorities
  • Why personalised support changes everything
  • How to feel calm, clear and back in control of your body and mind

This episode is for you if:
  • You feel overwhelmed by conflicting health advice
  • You’re trying to “do all the things” but still don’t feel your best
  • You want to feel calmer, clearer and more in control
  • You’re tired of overthinking your health
  • You know something needs to change but don’t know where to start

Want my help?

If this resonated with you, I’d love to support you.

I’ve created a Personal Reset Plan - a one-to-one deep dive where I help you cut through the noise and get clear on what actually matters for your health.

We look at the full picture - your body, mind, lifestyle and energy - and simplify it down into a few key areas that will make the biggest difference.

No overwhelm.

No endless to-do lists.

Just clarity and a plan that works for you.

Early spots are £127 for the first few people, then £147

Terminal Brain Tumour to 10 Years Later - Dave Bolton’s Survival Story (Part 2)18 mars 202601:09:21

Dave Bolton was given just three months to live with a brain tumour. Nearly ten years later, he is still here - and this is how he did it.

Welcome back to Cancer Cured Me. This is Part 2 of one of the most extraordinary conversations I’ve ever had.

In this episode, Dave shares what happened after his diagnosis of a brain tumour, later confirmed as a glioblastoma - one of the most aggressive and terminal forms of cancer.

This is where his story shifts from survival… to something much bigger.

We talk about the moment he was told he had a tumour in his brain, the fear, the waiting, the surgery, and the devastating prognosis that followed. But we also go deep into what he chose to do next - and the decisions that have led him to still be here today.

This is not about false hope. It’s about possibility. It’s about taking back control when everything feels out of your hands.

And it’s about understanding that a prognosis is not always the full picture.

In this episode, I share with Dave:
  • The moment he was diagnosed with a brain tumour
  • Being told he had just 3 months to live without treatment
  • Undergoing major brain surgery with a 75% risk of not surviving
  • The second diagnosis - a fast-growing glioblastoma
  • The reality of chemotherapy and radiotherapy
  • Hitting rock bottom and completely shutting down
  • The turning point that changed everything

What Dave did differently

This is the part so many of you have been asking for.

Dave shares the approach he took to support his body alongside conventional treatment - something that aligns so deeply with what I believe and what I talk about on this podcast.

We talk about:

  • Nutrition and why he shifted his diet
  • The role of exercise and movement in healing
  • Mindset, visualisation and the power of the mind
  • Stress, trauma and how they impact the body
  • Complementary therapies - from cold water to breathwork-style practices
  • Creating a 360-degree approach to healing

Something that really stayed with me from this conversation is this:

“Accept your diagnosis, but never accept your prognosis.”

Where Dave is now

Dave is now nearly 10 years on from a 3-month prognosis.

He is part of a tiny percentage of people in the world living this far beyond a glioblastoma diagnosis.

What this episode is really about

This conversation is not about rejecting medicine. It’s not about doing one thing over another.

It’s about expanding the conversation.

It’s about understanding that healing can be supported in many ways.

And it’s about remembering that:

  • You are not average
  • You are not alone
  • There is always something you can do

If you’re going through this right now

Something that came through so strongly in this episode is this:

You are allowed to have the hard days.

You are allowed to feel everything.

But there is also space for hope.

And sometimes, that starts with hearing a story like this.

If this episode resonates with you, please share it with someone who might need it.

And if you’d like to connect with Dave or learn more about his work, all links are in the show notes.

Because sometimes…

The stories that sound impossible

Are the ones that change everything.

He Was Given 3 Months to Live - 10 Years Later Dave Bolton Is Still Here (Part 1)11 mars 202600:32:24

Dave Bolton was given just three months to live with cancer. Ten years later, he’s still here.

In this episode of Cancer Cured Me, I’m sharing the first part of Dave’s extraordinary story - a story of survival, resilience, and the remarkable power of the human spirit.

Dave’s journey is almost impossible to believe. Before cancer even entered the picture, he had already survived an accident that should have killed him. Crushed by a 23-ton articulated lorry while riding his motorbike, he was told he would never walk again. Doctors even considered amputating his leg.

But Dave refused to accept that as his future.

Step by step - quite literally - he rebuilt his body, teaching himself to walk again through sheer determination and relentless effort.

And then he did something even more extraordinary.

He went on to become a world kickboxing champion.

This conversation is the beginning of Dave’s story. In this first part, we talk about the accident that nearly took his life, the long and brutal recovery, the mental battles that followed, and the mindset that carried him through when everything seemed impossible.

It’s a story about what happens when someone decides that the prognosis doesn’t get the final say.

Dave was later diagnosed with terminal cancer and given just three months to live. Today he is ten years beyond that prognosis, helping others through his charity and sharing the lessons he learned about resilience, mindset, and healing.

This episode is powerful, emotional, and at times unbelievable. But it’s also a reminder that the human spirit is capable of far more than we often think.

This is Part 1 of Dave’s story.

In this episode we talk about:
  • The motorbike accident that left Dave crushed by a 23-ton lorry
  • Being told he would never walk again
  • Surviving life-threatening injuries and a week-long coma
  • Morphine psychosis and the psychological toll of recovery
  • Teaching himself to walk again despite doctors’ predictions
  • The mindset that carried him through the darkest moments
  • Becoming a world kickboxing champion after being written off
  • Why finding your reason why can change everything

Dave’s story is one of the most extraordinary examples of resilience I’ve ever come across. It’s a reminder that sometimes the limits placed on us are not the limits that truly exist.

If this conversation resonates with you, make sure you listen to Part 2, where we go deeper into Dave’s cancer diagnosis, his prognosis, and how he went on to defy it.

If you enjoy the podcast, please follow or subscribe so more people can discover these powerful stories of healing and transformation.

Because sometimes the most impossible stories… are the ones that change everything.

The Scientist Who Discovered a Cancer Cure – Then the Government Shut Him Down04 mars 202600:54:36

Welcome back to Cancer Cured Me - healing, manifesting and living your best life.

This episode is with Sylvie Beljanski, a Parisian lawyer who walked away from her legal career to fight an injustice most of us could never imagine.

Her father – a molecular biologist – spent his life researching natural plant extracts that supported the body during cancer. His work attracted the interest of doctors, helped countless patients, and even supported former French President François Mitterrand through advanced prostate cancer.

And then… nine months after Mitterrand died, the French army sent a full SWAT team to Sylvie’s father’s small lab in rural France.

Machine guns. Dogs. A helicopter circling overhead.

All to shut down a scientist in his seventies.

This conversation is wild – but more importantly, it’s hopeful, grounding and genuinely empowering for anyone whose life has been touched by cancer.

In This Episode, We Explore:
  • The shocking political story behind the raid on Sylvie’s father’s lab
  • How natural plant extracts like pao pereira and rauvolfia vomitoria were discovered
  • Why her father’s research focused on destabilised DNA rather than “cancer types”
  • How these extracts may work alongside conventional treatment
  • Why Sylvie left law to carry on her father’s legacy
  • The emotional side of healing – toxic stress, lifestyle, relationships, alignment
  • What cancer stem cells are and why they're so often ignored
  • How new research at Columbia University and Kansas University Medical Center is validating her father’s early discoveries
  • The role of joy, alignment and “living clean” in long-term health

If Cancer Has Touched Your Life (or someone you love)

This episode offers something I think everyone deserves to feel: real, researched hope.

And just to be clear – we’re not making claims or offering cures. What we are offering is conversation, educatio and the chance to explore options with an open and empowered mind.

Links Mentioned
  • The Beljanski Foundation: https://beljanski.org
  • Maison Beljanski (New York): https://maisonbeljanski.com
  • Winning the War on Cancer (Sylvie’s award-winning book – first chapter free)
  • Research papers, protocols, and resources are all available on the Foundation website.

Final Thought

One of my favourite lines from Sylvie :

“These extracts give you time. The question is – what will you do with that time? You have to get to the root cause.”

As someone who had cancer myself, this hit home. This episode is such a powerful reminder that healing is multilayered – physical, emotional, spiritual, environmental – and that living joyfully is part of the medicine too.

The Truth About Healing Cancer with Philly J Lay18 févr. 202600:56:50

Today I’m talking to Philly J Lay - author of The Natural Wellness Journal, host of The Wellness Way Podcast, and the creator of the Wellness Way Festival and her upcoming Health Hub day at the College of Naturopathic Medicine on 1 March.

Philly is often seen as a controversial character - but what I’ve always loved about her is that she’s relentlessly fighting for the greater good, even when that means being shut down or shadow banned. In this episode, she shares more of her personal story - including surviving a near-death medical procedure, living with chronic illness and autoimmune issues, facing a thyroid tumour, and then choosing to take a very different path to healing.

We talk about the pieces so many people don’t address when it comes to healing - trauma, mindset, nervous system, community support, and the environment you’re asking your body to live in. We also get into practical, real-life wellness - food shopping without going broke, reducing toxic load, simple daily breathwork, EFT/tapping, gratitude, and why finding “your people” matters more than doing any of it perfectly.

Important note: This conversation is for educational purposes and personal opinion only. Nothing discussed is medical advice. If anything brings up questions for you, please speak with your own medical professional.

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by conflicting health information, pressured into decisions when you’re scared, or like you just want to understand your body better - this one will give you plenty to think about.

In this episode, we cover

  • Philly’s story - from spinal surgery trauma and two years in bed, to rebuilding her health
  • Autoimmune issues, thyroid surgery, and why she chose to step away from conventional routes (in her own case)
  • The mind-body-spirit approach - and why healing is rarely “one magic thing”
  • Trauma, emotional load, and the patterns we carry in the body
  • EFT tapping, matrix re-imprinting, journalling - and “you can’t clean the house unless you can see the dirt”
  • Informed consent - what it can look like to ask better questions and slow decisions down
  • Breathwork as a daily non-negotiable (even if you’re busy)
  • Food as information - simple ways Philly reduces “toxic load” without spending a fortune
  • A very honest chat about platforms, censorship, and why certain wellness topics get flagged
  • The Wellness Way Health Hub - what it is, who it’s for, and what you can expect on the day

Cancer as the Catalyst – Why This Podcast Is Becoming a Home for Hope & Healing Stories11 févr. 202600:14:51

This week’s episode is a short but deeply meaningful one – because the direction of the podcast is changing, and today I explain exactly why.

Over the past year of Cancer Cured Me, the clearest message from listeners has been this:

“Your story gives me hope.”

People on a cancer journey – and those who’ve come through one – keep reaching out to share how deeply they resonate with my belief that cancer wasn’t a punishment, but the catalyst that cracked life open. After nearly eight years of living this truth, I am ready to take the podcast where it always wanted to go.

What This New Direction Is All About

This podcast is becoming the go-to space for real stories of hope – stories that show what’s possible, reshape limiting beliefs, and give you evidence that healing really can happen.

Expect conversations with:

  • People who’ve healed against the odds, backed by their lived experience
  • Experts like Dr Sam Watts whose teachings combine science, ancient wisdom, and grounded, actionable healing principles
  • Parents, partners, and survivors who’ve walked through the darkest moments and found light, purpose and new beginnings
  • Holistic health pioneers, including upcoming guest Philly J. Lay

💛 Why This Matters

Hope isn’t a fluffy concept. It’s one of the biggest predictors of survival.

When you hear a story of someone healing from something “incurable,” your nervous system receives evidence that it’s possible for you, too.

This is the heartbeat of Year Two of the podcast.

🌿 What You’ll Hear in This Episode

  • Why the podcast is shifting and what sparked the decision
  • How people are already using “Cancer Cured Me” as their story
  • The role hope, purpose, and belief play in the healing journey
  • How lived experience – not certification – is what people often crave most
  • A preview of upcoming guests, including survivors, parents, and natural health experts
  • The beautiful story of a retreat guest who went from planning her funeral to planning her future
  • How conventional medicine and holistic healing can work hand in hand
  • A first look at my upcoming 12-week collective for people seeking support, regulation, and purpose after cancer

How to Be Selfish: A Guide for People Pleasers and Boundary Setting28 janv. 202600:53:43

FULL RETREAT DETAILS HERE If what Suzy shares resonates, she’ll be running a two-hour self-advocacy workshop at my Spring Retreat at Wilderness Reserve, Suffolk from 6-9 March 2026. Susie’s session alone will be genuinely life-changing - especially if you’re ready to stop people-pleasing and start living in a way that includes you too.

Suzy Reading returns to the podcast to unpack her new book How to Be Selfish - a powerful reframe of selfishness as self-advocacy, self-trust and learning to live like you matter too.

This conversation is for the women who:

  • feel selfish for resting
  • struggle to say no
  • automatically apologise (even when they’ve done nothing wrong)
  • find it hard to receive support, compliments or kindness
  • look successful on the outside, but feel stretched and dysregulated underneath

Key themes we cover

  • Why “selfish” isn’t the real problem - shame and guilt are
  • How women are conditioned to be the good girl (pleasant, compliant, endlessly available)
  • The “pandemic of not enoughness” - and why it’s not a personal failing
  • How modern culture twists resilience into hyper-independence
  • Why learning to receive is essential for healthy relationships (not a burden)
  • How to advocate for yourself without becoming cold or uncaring
  • Why confidence isn’t just mindset - it’s head, heart and body

Suzy’s 7 steps to self-advocacy (from the book)

  1. Reclaim your mind - unpick limiting beliefs and shift from thoughts to self-talk
  2. Reclaim your senses - take back control of attention and reduce overwhelm
  3. Reclaim your body - regulate the nervous system so it feels safe to speak up
  4. Reclaim your right to feel - emotions aren’t “negative”, they’re information
  5. Reclaim your moral compass - clarify values and what actually matters to you
  6. Boundaries with self - sleep, habits, energy, and keeping promises to yourself
  7. Advocate with others - communicate needs clearly and receive support

Tools you can try today (simple, but powerful)

  • Hand on heart + sip of tea/water
  • Ask: Where am I at? What do I need?
  • Then do one small thing to meet that need.
  • Somatic holds (circuit breakers for stress):
  • hold one thumb
  • hold your own hand
  • give yourself a hug
  • the “face hug” - warm your hands, cradle your chin, breathe
  • Posture reset for confidence
  • When we’re collapsed forward, it’s harder to say no.
  • Try shoulder rolls or “V to W” arms while breathing.

A gentle reminder

You don’t need to wait until you feel worthy to take care of yourself.

The feeling of worth often comes from the nourishing action.

Stop Trying to Fix Hormonal Imbalance and Do This Instead21 janv. 202601:29:27
In this powerful and deeply reassuring episode, I am joined by BANT-registered nutritionist and hormone expert Hannah Alderson, author of Everything I Know About Hormones.

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, exhausted, hormonal, confused by conflicting advice, or blamed your body for not behaving “properly” – this conversation is for you.

We gently dismantle the idea that hormones are something to “fix” or fight. Instead, we explore a far more compassionate – and science-backed – approach:

Your hormones aren’t broken. They’re responding to the environment they’re living in.

In This Episode, You’ll Learn:

Why Hormones Are Not the Enemy

Being “hormonal” has become an insult – but in reality, hormones are your greatest allies. Hannah explains why symptoms often arise not because hormones are faulty, but because modern life makes it incredibly hard for them to do their job.

The “VIP Hormones” You Actually Need to Understand

With over 50 hormones in the body, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Hannah simplifies things by focusing on the key players that influence most symptoms, including:

  • Cortisol (stress and energy)
  • Insulin (blood sugar and fat storage)
  • Oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone
  • Thyroid hormones
  • Melatonin and serotonin

You don’t need to know everything – just the right things.

Why “Balancing Hormones” Is the Wrong Goal

Hormones don’t want to be balanced – they want to move. They work in rhythms, cycles and relationships. Hannah explains why the idea of hormone “balance” is misleading, and what to focus on instead.

Cortisol, Burnout and Why You Wake Up Exhausted

If you’re tired-but-wired, struggle to get out of bed, rely on coffee, or feel flat and unmotivated, cortisol may be running the show. Hannah breaks down:

  • The cortisol awakening response
  • Why skipping breakfast can worsen stress in women
  • How chronic stress disrupts sleep, weight, mood and hormones
Breakfast, Blood Sugar and Energy (Without Perfection)

This episode offers some of the most practical, doable advice you’ll hear:

  • Why breakfast matters for women’s hormones
  • How to eat within 90 minutes of waking without overwhelm
  • Simple, realistic options like smoothies or eggs
  • Why it’s not about calories, fasting trends, or willpower

Insulin Resistance – The Hormone Link No One Explains Clearly

Hannah explains insulin resistance in a way that finally makes sense – and why it affects:

  • Fat storage (especially around the middle)
  • Energy levels and brain fog
  • PCOS, perimenopause and menopause symptoms
  • Hormone transport in the body

And most importantly – how small changes can reverse it.

The Role of Stress, Sleep and the Nervous System

This conversation goes far beyond food. You’ll hear why:

  • Stress is not a personal failure
  • The nervous system needs safety, not pressure
  • Light exposure, phones, routines and boundaries matter
  • Oxytocin (connection, laughter, love) is cortisol’s kryptonite

Why Consistency Beats Perfection

Hannah shares why wellness plans fail when they’re too rigid, and how:

  • Tiny, repeatable habits change the brain
  • Self-discipline eventually creates motivation
  • You don’t need to “start again on Monday”
  • Feeling good becomes the reward

A Key Takeaway From This Episode“The biggest job isn’t fixing your hormones – it’s creating an environment where they can thrive.”

This episode is a permission slip to:

  • Stop blaming your body
  • Stop chasing extremes
  • Start listening, responding, and supporting yourself gently

Dr. Sam Watts: Why Everyone Has the Potential to Heal from Cancer14 janv. 202600:58:25

If you want practical steps, real hope, and a calm, empowering perspective on cancer prevention and living with cancer, this episode is for you.

FOR A FREE MORNING ROUTINE LIKE THE ONE MENTIONED BY DR SAM WATTS IN THE INTERVIEW CLICK HERE

In Part 2 of my interview with Dr Sam Watts, we go deeper into his book The Ayurvedic Approach to Cancer and the research behind “exceptional cancer patients” (ECAPs) - people who outlive terminal prognoses and challenge what we think is possible.

We talk about potentiality - Dr Sam’s belief that while outcomes vary, everyone has the potential to survive, because we can clearly see that long-term survival happens across many cancer types. We explore why hope and meaning/purpose (dharma) show up again and again in exceptional survivorship and how mindset isn’t about pretending everything is fine - it’s about learning skills that help you respond in an adaptive way, even when things feel terrifying.

Dr Sam also explains the concept of immune surveillance - the idea that fully malignant cells may arise in the body more often than we realise, and the immune system routinely clears them. From circadian alignment and movement to nutrition, herbs, hobbies, and relationships, this episode is packed with grounded tools that support the body’s healing environment - what Dr Sam calls the body’s “internal soup”.

Key Takeaways
  • Everyone has the potential to survive - because we have clear examples of people who outlive terminal prognoses across many cancers.
  • Hope and meaning/purpose consistently show up in exceptional survivorship.
  • Mindset is not denial and it’s not blame - it’s learning skills that support an empowered inner response.
  • The body may be clearing malignant cells more often than we realise - understanding this can be deeply empowering.
  • Supporting the “internal soup” (sleep/circadian rhythm, inflammation, blood sugar, immunity, stress) can change the terrain cancer relies on.
  • Lifestyle factors aren’t “soft” - relationships, work satisfaction, and joy/hobbies can have measurable effects on health.

The Profound Healing Power of Ayurveda - Dr Sam Watts Reveals the Truth07 janv. 202601:07:05

Can ancient wisdom support modern recovery? Dr. Sam Watts is a highly respected clinical practitioner of Ayurveda and holds a PhD in Cancer Survivorship. In this deeply insightful episode, he breaks down the fundamentals of Ayurveda, what it really is and how it serves as one of the most robust health systems for creating balance and preventing disease..

In this deeply grounding and empowering conversation, Dr Sam demystifies what Ayurveda really is – and why it may be one of the most robust, proven health systems for creating balance and preventing disease.

Rather than being complicated or restrictive, Dr Sam explains that Ayurveda is fundamentally simple, intuitive, and deeply individualised. At its core, it offers each of us a personal health manual – helping the body return to homeostasis and function as it was designed to.

We explore why many modern health trends fail, how Ayurveda differs from “one-size-fits-all” wellness advice and how small, sustainable changes can profoundly impact long-term health.

This episode is especially powerful if you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by health advice, confused by conflicting recommendations, or disconnected from your body’s signals.

In this episode, we cover:

  • Why Ayurveda is simple by design – and how it’s been over-complicated in the West
  • How Ayurveda works as a complete, preventative health system, not a diet or quick fix
  • The concept of individualisation – why what’s “healthy” depends on you
  • Understanding the three doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) as your personal blueprint
  • Why symptoms like anxiety, inflammation, fatigue, or weight gain need different approaches in different people
  • The difference between prakriti (your natural state of balance) and vikriti (imbalance)
  • How daily stress quietly accumulates – and how Ayurveda helps you “wipe the dust away”
  • Why empowerment, autonomy, and self-awareness are central to true health
  • The importance of circadian rhythm, morning routines, and natural light
  • How simple practices like walking outside, self-massage, oil pulling, and breathwork support whole-body health
  • Why popular trends like fasting or cold exposure work for some people – and not for others
  • How Ayurveda aligns with modern science around homeostasis, nervous system regulation, and disease prevention

Key takeaway:

Ayurveda isn’t about being perfect or doing everything.

It’s about understanding your body, making small aligned choices, and creating the conditions for health to emerge naturally.

As Dr Sam shares, when you know what your body needs, health becomes something you actively participate in – not something that happens to you.

Change Your Morning, Change Your Life 31 déc. 202500:16:07

Change your morning, change your life - DOWNLOAD FOR FREE HERE

Today’s episode of Cancer Cured Me is live on New Year's Eve 2025, but I’m not doing a year in review. I’m not recapping achievements, milestones or lessons learned.

Instead, I’m giving you a gift.

A gift that you can use on New Year’s Eve… or in February… or in the middle of a random Tuesday when you suddenly realise you’re tired of feeling stuck, overwhelmed or disconnected from yourself. This gift is about one thing:

Building rock-solid self-belief, gently, consistently and in a way your nervous system can actually trust.

Because here’s what I know to be true from my own healing journey.

Self-belief isn’t something you think your way into.

It’s something you train your system into.

Most of what runs our lives sits in the subconscious. Old stories. Old habits. Old emotional wiring from childhood, relationships, school, work or moments when we learned (often unconsciously) that we weren’t safe, capable or enough.

And no amount of willpower or affirmations alone can override that.

What does change it… is showing your system, again and again, that:

You do what you say you’ll do.

You show up for yourself.

You create safety, calm, and consistency inside your body.

That’s why I’ve created something simple, practical, and genuinely doable, a tiny morning practice that takes minutes, not hours, and builds the foundation for real, embodied self-belief.

Not a rigid routine.

Not a 5am bootcamp for your soul.

Not another thing to fail at.

Just small, intentional practices that:

  • Calm your nervous system
  • Set the emotional tone of your day
  • Create internal safety instead of fight-or-flight
  • Rewire your identity into someone who trusts and believes in themselves

And over time, that changes everything.

Because you deserve to live with a regulated nervous system.

You deserve to trust yourself.

You deserve to believe that change is possible for you not someday, not for other people, but for you.

A Simple Tool to Reset Your Nervous System This Christmas17 déc. 202500:20:20

If the festive season feels busy, intense, or a little overwhelming, this short final episode in our Calm Christmas mini-series, is a gift to your nervous system.

In this guided mini practice, Alex is joined again by nervous system strategist Georgie Shears, who shares one of her most accessible and powerful regulation tools a simple ear massage technique known as “thinking caps”.

This is a practice you can do anywhere, anytime at your desk, in the car, between meetings, or in the middle of Christmas chaos. And the magic? You’ll feel the shift in real time.

In just a few minutes, Georgie gently guides you through:

  • How to check your baseline nervous system state
  • Why busy periods naturally push us into fight or flight
  • How stimulating the vagus nerve sends immediate signals of safety to the body
  • Why small shifts — even 1% — matter deeply for long-term change

This practice helps your body move out of survival mode and back toward regulation, allowing you to enjoy the season rather than just get through it.

✨ You don’t need to fix yourself.

✨ Your body already knows how to settle.

✨ Sometimes it just needs a gentle cue of safety.

How to Avoid Holiday Hangovers and Hormone Chaos with Nutritionist Hannah Alderson10 déc. 202500:08:04

This week I’m joined for the second in our Calm Christmas mini series by nutritionist and hormone expert Hannah Alderson. We’re talking about one thing many of us feel at this time of year, the impact of festive food, alcohol and late nights on our hormones and energy.

If you’re feeling stretched, stressed, tired, hungover or just a bit overdone by the sparkly social calendar, you are not alone. This episode is packed with simple hormone-friendly Christmas tips that don’t involve restriction, guilt or saying no to the fun bits. No perfection, no “clean eating”, no punishing yourself for loving a Lindor ball. Just gentle support for your body when life gets busy.

In this episode with Hannah Alderson, we explore:
  • Why Christmas chaos can send our hormones and nervous system into meltdown
  • How alcohol affects hormone detoxification (and how to soften the blow)
  • Simple ways to support the liver without giving up cocktails, champagne or dessert
  • Why B vitamins and electrolytes might be your secret festive helpers
  • The power of fibre and cruciferous veg for hormone balance
  • How to avoid sugar spikes – while still enjoying the good stuff
  • What to eat before going out so you don’t wake up regretting everything
  • Why guilt and shame are worse for hormones than mince pies

Key Takeaways:
  • Christmas technically lasts 2 to 3 days… not 6 weeks. We don’t need to be “on a health kick” the whole time.
  • Look after your liver on your quieter days, especially if you’re drinking or sleeping less.
  • Enjoy your nights out guilt-free – connection boosts oxytocin and wellbeing.
  • Eat before you drink and add cruciferous veg (like Brussels sprouts, cabbage, broccoli) and flax seeds into your week.
  • Hydrate like your hormones depend on it… because they do.
  • If you’re eating the chocolates, have them after a meal, not on an empty stomach.
  • Skip the shame: stress and cortisol do far more damage than dessert ever could.

Foods & Supplements Mentioned:

(Always check what’s right for you, especially if you’re on medication.)

  • Cruciferous veg: broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage
  • Flax seeds
  • Milk thistle (tincture or supplement)
  • B Vitamin complex (in the morning, after food)
  • Electrolytes (higher quality options, not just the fizzy high-street ones)

The Big Message

Enjoy the party. Eat the meal. Dance in your sparkly shoes.

Look after your liver on the quieter days, stay hydrated, and skip the guilt.

Joy, laughter and connection are some of the best medicines we’ve got.

If you loved this mini episode…

You’ll want to follow Hannah for more practical, no-nonsense hormone guidance:

Do you want to know how to get through winter without it being so hard? Does your mental health suffer in winter? Do you suffer with SAD or just get those January blues and can’t wait for it to be summer again? Well, this is an episode that will solve all your winter problems.

In this conversation with Suzy Reading, we explore the importance of self-care during the winter months and how to embrace winter as a wonderful, nurturing season, not just a season to ‘get through’.

Talking around Suzy’s book, Self-Care for Winter, we discuss the concept of wintering through self-care, its significance for mental and emotional health, and introduce a framework of seven gentle steps to nurture oneself through the challenges of winter. The discussion emphasises the need for connection with nature and ‘awe hunting’, the importance of comforting rituals and community, as well as the value of reflection as a means to foster well-being during the colder, darker months. Suzy demonstrates some practical exercises that take just moments to do but will completely lift your day.

Why Your Nervous System Holds the Secret to Feeling Safe and Calm 19 nov. 202501:02:51

I absolutely love this conversation with nervous system strategist, Georgie Shears. Together we explore what it truly means to feel safe in your own body not conceptually, but physically. What is the elusive nervous system? What is nervous system regulation? Not only does Georgie answer these questions beautifully and more, she shares her honest, moving story of anxiety, panic attacks, postnatal depression and the pivotal moment during the pandemic that led her to discover the power of nervous system work. Her journey will resonate with anyone who has ever pushed through life on adrenaline, overridden their inner knowing or lived in a constant state of “what if”.

Across this conversation you’ll learn:

  • What the nervous system actually is beyond mindset, beyond theory
  • Why so many women live in survival mode without realising it
  • The difference between ventral vagal (safety), sympathetic (fight/flight), and dorsal vagal (freeze)
  • How your upbringing, past experiences and old protective patterns create your current responses
  • Why your body “borrows” energy from digestion, immunity and sleep when you’re stressed
  • How nervous system states influence people pleasing, burnout, procrastination and overthinking
  • Why traditional calming techniques don’t work when you’re too activated
  • The simple cues your body gives you when you’re shifting back into regulation
  • How reconnecting with your inner child restores safety and softens old survival tendencies

Georgie also generously walks us through two beautiful, accessible practices that you can use anytime you need to.

Why I Feel Crap But Show Up Anyway | A Vulnerable Solo Episode 29 oct. 202500:22:34

IF YOU'RE NOT FEELING GREAT BUT PUT ON A BRAVE FACE NO MATTER WHAT, THIS FREE GUIDE IS FOR YOU... DOWNLOAD HERE YOU'LL FEEL SO MUCH BETTER IF YOU DO

In this deeply honest and unfiltered solo episode, I invite you behind the scenes of what it means to live authentically, even on the days that feel heavy.

Despite recently celebrating incredible highs from a joyful, soul-nourishing meetup with a new friend to seeing my story featured in a national newspaper. I woke up feeling low and out of sorts. Instead of pushing it away or pretending, I chose to record exactly as I was raw, real and human.

I open up about:

  • The pressure to “stay positive” when you’re a mentor or guide
  • How guilt and overthinking can spiral, especially as a parent
  • What Byron Katie’s wisdom taught me about questioning my thoughts
  • Why feeling your emotions (not fixing them) is sometimes the most healing act
  • The small grounding practices: breathwork, walking, gratitude, that help emotions move through the body

I remind us all that we’re not here to “just get through life,” but to live it fully,  the good days and the hard ones. My message is simple : even when it doesn’t feel like it, you’re okay. You’re human. And that’s enough

How Self-Belief Turned My Cancer Story Into a National Headline21 oct. 202500:09:26

When a national newspaper shared my story with the headline “Breast Cancer Cured Me of a Toxic Lifestyle,” it became a powerful reminder of how self-belief and trust in the universe can transform your life. This uplifting solo episode is all about courage, synchronicity and owning your story.

In this short and heartfelt solo episode of Cancer Cured Me, I share a deeply personal milestone — my story being featured as a full-page article in a national newspaper with the headline “Breast Cancer Cured Me of a Toxic Lifestyle.”

This episode is a celebration of self-belief, trust in the universe and the power of sharing your truth. I reflect on how my journey with breast cancer became the catalyst for transforming my life, breaking free from toxic patterns, and finding her purpose through helping others.

You’ll hear:

  • How a moment of self-doubt (“Who am I to do this?”) turned into national recognition
  • Why trusting in divine timing can lead to beautiful synchronicities
  • The importance of sharing your story — no matter how small it feels
  • A sneak peek into upcoming episodes with Dr. Sam Watts (Ayurvedic medicine for cancer prevention) and Georgie Shears, a nervous system specialist

If you’ve ever questioned whether your story matters, or whether it’s too late to start something new, this episode will remind you that your voice can inspire more people than you realise.

Meeting Chris Martin and the Power of Coldplay's 'Fix You'09 sept. 202500:15:58

“Fix You in Real Life: Meeting Chris Martin & A Story of Healing”

What happens when music, manifestation and a little bit of magic all collide?

In this special episode, I share two unforgettable stories:

  • My once-in-a-lifetime meeting with Chris Martin from Coldplay (yes, it really happened – twinkly blue eyes and all).
