In 1892 the Berger family moved into their new Victorian home with high hopes for their future. Unfortunately, their time was cut short when a fire erupted in the upper level of the home, taking with it most of the house and the family itself. Shortly after, a new family moved in. It wasn't long before they received more than they had bargained for when the family patriarch's personality changed almost instantly; no longer being recognized by his friends and family as the kind and loving man they once knew him to be. This was followed by a rotating door of tenants in the home, all claiming to experience unexplainable and bizarre happenings. Join us as we tell the story and detail the events that have taken place in the Monroe House in Hartford City, Indiana. One hundred episodes and nearly two years ago, we took a run at one of the strangest local legends that we have ever come across, but we were new! It was our very first episode! While we quickly found our feet in the podcasting waters, that first attempt has always irked us, so we decided to take another crack at it! Join us as we take a true deep dive into the Wolf Girl of Devil’s River and the full deck of bizarre occurrences surrounding the area, specifically Espantosa Lake.
In the early 1830s, John Dent and his new wife fled Georgia after murdering the father of his lover. Soon after settling in the Devil’s River area of Texas, a truly strange series of events culminated in tragedy and the source point for one of the state’s most enduring legends. Is this a true feral child case? Some sort of wolf/girl hybrid? Are the stories simply that? Stories? Let’s get to the bottom of it!

On the evening of October 11, 1973, 42-year-old Charles Hickson and 19-year-old Calvin Parker told the Jackson County, Mississippi Sheriff's office they were fishing off a pier on the west bank of the Pascagoula River in Mississippi when they were abducted by what they can only reason to be aliens. A media frenzy ensued that attracted interviewers and UFO enthusiasts all over the country and even the likes of J. Allen Hynek. We even get into what happened to Calvin on the 20-year anniversary and his hypnosis session with Bud Hopkins that followed.

It was on a summer night in July 1924 that a group of gold prospectors in the Mount St. Helens area of Washington state found themselves face to face with a group of “mountain devils” on the trail ahead of them. After a harrowing chase through the trails they had forged, they barricaded themselves in the cabin they had built as a barrage of attacks lasted the entire night. Our second tale is soaked in nostalgia. In a mid-90s video store, we meet Melissa, a 20-something employee who has a bizarre and terrifying encounter with a strange man at closing. The Rake is a creature believed to be a humanoid in appearance, with several references in folklore and horrific urban legends, originally appearing on the internet as a Creepypasta. The creature reportedly attacks humans for unknown reasons and often causes its victims great psychological trauma. Several theories as to its development Rake point towards internet threads and online discussions; however, others believe alcoholic delusions fueled the idea of the creature before then. Pale Crawlers, also known as ashmen and palemen are humanoid beings known for their distinctive pale, hairless, ashen skin and emaciated appearance. They average 5-8 feet in height upright, but are typically seen crawling on all fours in a hunched position, giving them the name "crawler". How are these two seemingly disparate entities related?
