| Student-Led Investment Funds - S10 E05 | 09 Jul 2026 | 00:53:59 | |
Michigan Ross stands out as a business school in part for its numerous action-based learning experiences. There are seven student-led investment funds at the University of Michigan, where students source real deals, make real investment decisions, and manage real capital while still in school. On the season 10 finale of Business Beyond Usual, our hosts sit down with 5 MBA students who are each exploring venture capital (VC) at Ross. The guests delve into what makes each of their funds unique, sharing investment theses which often focus on both financial viability and social impact. They demystify the application process, explain how the funds are structured, and take us through the investment process — from sourcing deals, to conducting due diligence, to making the final decision. Students pursuing VC at Ross acquire a wide variety of hard and soft skills, such as financial modeling, dealing with ambiguity, and learning how to take a bet on a team of people rather than on the product or technology alone. Student Led Venture Funds Featured in the Episode Michigan Climate Venture (MCV) Wolverine Venture Fund (WVF) Michigan Social Venture Fund (SVF) International Investment Fund (IIF) Zell Lurie Commercialization Fund (ZLCF)

But you don’t hear a lot from the professors who make the educational part of the MBA experience so dynamic. There are a lot of talented, respected, world-renowned professors at Michigan Ross. But what do they do in their free time? Turns out, quite a bit. Questions or comments? Pursuing an MBA can mean big changes for students -- and partners. As a partner of an MBA student, it’s natural to wonder what lies ahead as you prepare for this new chapter. Is it hard to make friends? Will you miss your ‘home’? Can you still hang out and have date nights? Virginia Miles joins her husband and BBU producer Marjace, for an in-depth and candid discussion about the lives of MBA partners. Plus, there’s a Newlywed-style game with buzzers and prizes and it’s just good fun. | #307 - What Does A "Career In Tech” Even Mean? | 05 Feb 2019 | 00:46:01 | |
Blockchain. Brand Management. Machine Learning. Marketing. AI. Supply Chain. Predictive Analytics. Finance. Growth Strategy. With so many business functions mixed with industry crossovers, it’s hard to nail down exactly what a career in tech for MBA graduates looks like. If you think about it hard enough, it begs the question: “Does Tech Even Know What Tech Is?” In this episode, we break it down. Leslie Chang and Adam Fasher gather a few tech-focused classmates to discuss how to identify which tech career might be right for you, how to prepare for interviews at various tech companies, and just what the heck is a “tech” career anyway. Business Beyond Usual is brought to you by the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.
