A Crossover Movie Event!17 Apr 202502:13:15

Guys, we’re back, and we brought some friends! Instead of comparing two shows, we joined forces with the hosts of another Buffy podcast, Boys Watching Buffy, to review a movie starring a Gilmore Girl: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. We chat all about the sometimes cringe, yet surprisingly emotional summer adventures of Carmen, Lena, Bridget, Tibby(!?), and their shared, dirty, pair of regular-looking, yet magical pants. Whether you’ve seen this movie or not, whether you liked it or didn’t, we’re pretty sure we can all agree that one dad really sucks. Enjoy!

P.S. Our microphones missed us and are a little HOT in portions of the podcast. Sorry!

Be sure to check out Boys Watching Buffy!

Also get hyped for Étoile with us by watching this not super marketed trailer, and make sure you're subscribed to our YouTube channel for upcoming content!

The show Stacey produces, Sketch Cram, is this Saturday night! You can buy a live stream ticket no matter where you live and watch for up to 7 days after the show.

Bunheads Episode 11 "You Wanna See Something?"/Firefly Episode 11 "Trash"

This week both Sasha and YoSafBridge are hiding romances and being smuggled around as contraband, having recently reappeared after doing other gigs. We're introduced to the old lovers of YoSafBridge and Talia, old taking on more than one meaning here. Michelle as well as Simon and River are brought foil-wrapped food to eat in their little rooms. Both Jayne and Boo's mom both find themselves on bedrest whether they like it or not. And we actually have since figured out what Michelle pulled out of her bra. Have you?

Life/Death Advice From Confident Blondes03 May 202201:23:53

Buffy S5 E7 “Fool for Love"/Gilmore Girls S5 E7 "You Jump, I Jump, Jack"

Two fan favorites this week with so many similar themes and specifics: like fancy old timey parties, negotiated conditions, 3rd wheels, and beer! Buffy and Rory go seeking answers for their respective projects, and find those answers in some risk-taking, cocky blonde men who definitely aren't their boyfriends... for now. Meanwhile Riley and Dean are just kinda waiting for their girlfriends to love them before they get written off the shows. Buffy gets bad news about her Mom. Luke IS bad news for Lorelai's Mom. And find out whether or not Bryan has an eye for dress sizes!

Telling Dad No26 Apr 202201:24:48

Gilmore Girls S5 E6 "Norman Mailer, I'm Pregnant!/Buffy S5 E6 "Family"

Both Rory and Tara don't love the way their dads have handled things with their moms and decide to make it known. We learn Tara's family hasn't been super cool to women, and apparently neither has Normal Mailer. Both Buffy's dad and Sherry have fled to Europe, fully abandoning their parental duties. Buffy is suddenly very overprotective of her sister, while Rory drives 2 hours to not even say hi to hers. Rory discovers a secret society. Buffy discovers invisible demons. Stacey's VERY bothered by this year's living situations, and Bryan's got some wild ideas about what the bases are.

The Gilmore Girls Official Cookbook is now available to pre-order! And thanks again to Sammie, for the gift of Lauren Graham's book.

Why's He Wearing That?19 Apr 202201:29:56

Buffy S5 E5 “No Place Like Home"/Gilmore Girls S5 E5 "We Got Us a Pippi Virgin"

Buffy and Emily discover that Giles and Richard own some unusually flashy garments, and the ladies do NOT approve. To keep herself safe, Emily buys a panic room, and Buffy learns that in a way, Dawn is a panic room. Spike and Zack take some time to process their new romantic feelings. Buffy meets perhaps her toughest opponent yet, but not as tough as Luke and Dean were on that Bop It. A seemingly nice, normal, Sunnydale man later needs to be strapped to a table. Maybe someone should've tried that with Luke after his mood swing. But one thing is certain: Kyle is CRUSHING it.

Romantic Revelations12 Apr 202201:17:53

Gilmore Girls S5 E4 "Tippecanoe and Taylor, Too/Buffy S5 E4 "Out of My Mind"

Despite bringing some DTF blondes home, Spike and Zack are abruptly given news that romance may lie elsewhere. Spike and Jackson impulsively seize opportunities that don't work out the way they wanted. Riley's heart's beating faster than Hep Alien's new anthem, and he'll burst if he doesn't go through with a much-needed procedure. Same could be said about Dean if you put your mind in the gutter. #tinyprius #parentshouse Dean's mom is almost as triggered by seeing Rory as Joyce is by seeing she's got a whole second daughter she didn't know about. And what even is Charmed now?

Note: After releasing Episode 5.2 we learned the character of Dawn was originally written to be much younger. This episode was recorded before we learned that, so some of our jokes do not take that information into account. We will address this topic specifically at the top of our next episode.

Spying on Their Other Half05 Apr 202201:24:07

Buffy S5 E3 “The Replacement"/Gilmore Girls S5 E3 "Written in the Stars"

Xander is on the tail of what he believes to be his evil twin, and Emily is on the case of where Richard could possibly be going at 7:30pm!? While Xander finds himself split down the middle, the people of Stars Hollow worry they're have to split down the middle if Luke and Lorelai's relationship goes south. Rory meets a man who tries to turn her on through debate. The Scoobies meet a woman who's turned on by jackets. Anya's worried about Death, meanwhile death has fully come for Asher. Xander and Lorelai both make very bold shirt choices. And we discuss cornholing at length.

P.S. Here is the TikTok mentioned in this episode featuring Bryan's initial (quite tipsy) thoughts on Logan.

Message Delivered29 Mar 202201:18:34

Gilmore Girls S5 E2 "A Messenger, Nothing More"/Buffy S5 E2 "Real Me"

Rory's got a message for Dean; Harmony's got a message for Buffy: both very different, but both deliveries do result in something flying through a window. While both Rory and Dawn express their feelings through writing, both Buffy and Liz have their meditation interrupted by a sibling. Every European man seems to be randy for Emily, meanwhile Sunnydale's resident European, Giles, is randy for his new car. And though our ASP/Buffy conspiracy theory might be losing steam, there are still a ton of small similarities this week. That banana comment was just too random to be random.

Dracula!?22 Mar 202201:22:54

Buffy S5 E1 “Buffy vs. Dracula"/Gilmore Girls S5 E1 "Say Goodbye to Daisy Miller"

We kick this season off with surprise visits from Dracula: one in Sunnydale, and one at the Dragonfly? Buffy and Rory convince themselves last night won't happen again, but alas, they're under the thrall of Dracula and Dean respectively. Sookie and Willow are asked to keep secrets, and boy, are they bad at it. Emily easily persuades Rory go to Europe. Buffy unknowingly persuades Giles NOT to go to Europe. Riley rats out Giles for what he did in the chick pit. Gil rats out Zack, who probably coined the term chick pit. And, um... excuse us! We need to speak to the Netflix manager...

Season 4 Wrap-up15 Mar 202200:58:47

In this special episode, we recap our general thoughts on Season 4 of both shows. We count down our top 5 moments, discuss our least favorite moments, reveal our favorite episodes, share some predictions, AND decide which show we thought was better overall. We try one more time to make sense of whatever The Initiative was supposed to be. We take a good chunk of time to break down our feelings about Jason. But most importantly, we're really enjoying this project, still loving both shows, and are so grateful for you, our listeners. Thank you everyone for another great season!

P.S. As mentioned, we switched to a new mic setup recently. After recording, we realized Bryan was probably a little too close to the mic for this episode, but we've adjusted this in subsequent episodes.

Night Terrors... and Cheese!?08 Mar 202201:42:54

Buffy S4 E22 “Restless"/Gilmore Girls S4 E22 "Raincoats and Recipes"

Starting out on this journey, we never could have predicted that both Season 4 finales would address such a heavy subject as individual cheese slices, yet here we are. While the Scoobies and Kirk are all being followed by something scary in their dreams, Buffy and Lorelai process the significance of unmade beds. Xander and Dean push the boundaries of friendship with their female friends, to put it VERY mildly in Dean's case especially. Both shows feature much-anticipated first kisses, though the WB was only willing to show one of them. And we are DEEP into The Mighty Ducks.

Till Death Makes Us Parts01 Mar 202201:32:46

Gilmore Girls S4 E21 "Last Week Fights, This Week Tights"/Buffy S4 E21 "Primeval"

As Liz and TJ, as well as the Scoobies, join together in beautiful union, Adam also plans a gathering to perform his own idea of marriage. While Adam attempts to create a whole new race of bad guys, Emily tricks Rory into a bad date with the Beer Bad guys. Resident bad boys, Spike and Jess, are on missions to fix their mistakes, and resident big boys, Richard and Riley, have done enough lately and kinda sit this one out. TJ's excited to show off his new tights. Adam's excited to show off his new arm. And instead of giving something up for lent, we reveal the thing we've given up for the podcast.

Torture21 May 202401:40:51

Firefly Episode 10 "War Stories"/Bunheads Episode 10 "A Nutcracker in Paradise"

Michelle tortures a room full of people completely by accident, while Malcom gets tortured by a creepy old man who's just super into torture. Michelle and Malcom are both caught in the middle of lovers who aren't communicating very well. Michael disappears partway through this episode, just like Malcom's right ear. We disagree about Fanny's ADORABLE outfit, but agree that henchmen outfits are pretty stupid. Plus Bryan tells a story about encounter with an older woman in our neighborhood, and we tell you about a special room in our apartment! #beinmybunk

Here is that Dead Poets Society SNL sketch we referenced.

Gurus, Boy Brawls & Cats!22 Feb 202201:25:23

Buffy S4 E20 “The Yoko Factor"/Gilmore Girls S4 E20 "Luke Can See Her Face"

Sunnydale's hottest new couple has a brand new cat, and whether she likes it or not, Stars Hollow's hottest new spinster's got a couple of 'em. Luke seeks out self-help books to fix the problems with his life, and whether Spike likes it or not, a very "Tony Robbins" Adam tells him what's wrong with his. Angel's back in town, so obviously he and Riley must literally fight over Buffy. Also both TJ and Jess are back in town and literally fight over Jess's mom. Letting Him Go15 Feb 202201:14:29

Gilmore Girls S4 E19 "Afterboom"/Buffy S4 E19 "New Moon Rising"

Lorelai and Willow make a difficult choice and say goodbye to the men in their lives. And while Oz and Willow stay up all night talking, Lane creepily watches her mom sleep. In order to rescue Oz, the Scoobies go undercover and sneak into The Initiative, and in order to save Friday Night Dinner, Emily goes undercover as a person who still lives at her house. It may be sad that Emily is living in a hotel, but not as sad as Riley living in an old high school. Rory confronts Asher Fleming about a grade. Buffy confronts Riley about how he's a big ole demon bigot, and our loud loud neighbor is back!

Buffy S4 E18 “Where the Wild Things Are"/Gilmore Girls S4 E18 "Tick, Tick, Tick, Boom!"

Bombs are dropped, eggs are lost, and secrets are out on Gilmore Girls, but not as big as the secret that Giles is doing an open mic!? P.S. Buffy and Riley also aren't so secretive when it comes to romantic activities. Both Spike and Dean work on their cornering girls in an alley techniques. Both Lindsay and some children overhear something they weren't meant to, and weirdly both episodes feature an argument at ice cream establishment. Lorelai can't find a good wall for a bookshelf. There's a REALLY good wall over at Lowell house. And update: our cat LOVES his couch now.

Here's that Howard Dean moment Kirk's motivational egg speech is referencing.

Old High School Friends... and Twins!01 Feb 202201:20:56

Gilmore Girls S4 E17 "Girls in Bikinis, Boys Doin' the Twist"/Buffy S4 E17 "Superstar"

Johnathan, now known as Doyle, is back as Johnathan, only now with twin girlfriends! Oh, and everyone's obsessed with him. Spring-break-obsessed Madeline and Louise are also back and ALSO dealing with twin girlfriends. Madeline and Louise use their charm to get free drinks, while Johnathan uses his to make Buffy stir his coffee? Buffy deals with the trauma of Faith taking her body. Lorelai deals with the trauma of taking a key from Jason. While Paris and Rory learn about The Power of Myth, Riley learns about the power of magics. And we've got some wild ideas about hot tubs!

Apologies, there's occasionally a weird thumping sound in this one. Pretty sure it had something to do with our upstairs neighbor's incessant vacuuming.

Buffy S4 E16 “Who Are You"/Gilmore Girls S4 E16 "The Reigning Lorelai"

Due to a recent body swap incident, Buffy and Faith aren't quite themselves this week. Meanwhile Emily and Richard get straight-up wasted. Willow has finally decided to stop keeping Tara a secret, and Emily uncovers a juicy juicy secret about her own relationship. Adam converts a whole gaggle of gullible vampires to... whatever religion Adam is, while Luke and Nicole's relationship drama has also garnered quite the following. "Buffy" confuses the hell out of Spike. Lorelai freaks the hell out of a Victoria's Secret employee. And we have a preeeety exciting airport story to share.

Gilmore Girls S4 E15 "Scene in a Mall"/Buffy S4 E15 "This Year's Girl"

Emily's shopping spree has her Aaron Sorkining her way through Bloomingdales, meanwhile Faith prefers to procure her apparel by assaulting hospital visitors and moms. Faith moves out of her dungeon-of-a hospital room, and Lane moves into an apartment with a similar vibe. As the Gilmore Girls teach us an adorable British word, 3 creepy-ass British dudes dramatically arrive in Sunnydale. Rory's still getting over a cold. Riley's still getting over a skewering. Bryan doesn't understand Emily's apples, and the people over at Frozen 2 might have some 'splainin' to do!

Buffy S4 E14 “Goodbye Iowa"/Gilmore Girls S4 E14 "The Incredible Sinking Lorelais"

When the Gilmore Girls realize achieving their dreams is maybe more than they can handle, they both take solace in the arms of forbidden men. Meanwhile when Riley starts to question reality and truth, he takes solace in a little scarf. Both the Scoobies and the Yalies are living 5 to a tiny room with occasional big dopey boyfriend drop-ins making 6. Buffy/Rory try to gaslight Riley/her roommates into thinking everything is okay. Both shows somehow mention holding hands and skipping through flowers. And this week's episode is sponsored by... naps!

Liz is still in town, and she's making steak dinner for her guys! Meanwhile one of Maggie Walsh's guys is doing a little staking of his own. While Buffy nearly dies seeking the approval of The Initiative, Luke nearly dies after drunkenly trying to fix a window. Spike and Lane have both found new privacy-lacking places to crash. Spike and Rory get chased around town by people who have previously messed with their minds. Everyone but Luke is supportive of Liz's new business, while NO one is supportive of Xander's. Surprise Visits From Chaotic Ones28 Dec 202101:16:05

Buffy S4 E12 "A New Man"/Gilmore Girls S4 E12 "A Family Matter"

While Giles gets an unwelcomed visit from his old pal, Ethan, Luke is reunited with his historically-problematic sister, Liz. Both rehash their pasts over drinks, and while one visitor might be staying a bit longer, the other is maybe going away forever? Buffy celebrates her birthday by getting physical with Riley. Jamie celebrates his birthday by getting dumped by Paris. Jason tailgates Luke through Stars Hollow, as Giles has picked up a couple tails of his own. This episode marks the return/farewell of two beloved old clunkers, and we GOTTA tell you about these dreams we had.

Lane finally comes clean to her mom, while Buffy and Riley mostly come clean to each other. And while Riley can't accept that Buffy won't date him, Lorelai can't accept that Luke is living with his wife. A funeral and subsequent bequeathal brings the town of Stars Hollow together, while an earthquake and subsequent demonic ritual nearly tear Sunnydale apart. Bunheads Episode 9 "No One Takes Khaleesi's Dragons"/Firefly Episode 9 "Ariel"

While our Firefly friends do a heist to steel drugs from the rich, Michelle elaborately lies to the town, so she can have some grocery store coffee. Wash and Kaylee build an emergency vehicle out of junk, while Fanny attempts to cast a Nutcracker with inferior dancers. The usually graceful Ginny goes tumbling down the bleachers, much like all the rando space cops who fall to the ground after a glowstick attack. Both River and Michelle get a "gift" from their "sibling". Both episodes mention ducks for no reason. And names were really a struggle this week, guys...

While some creepy, friendly-faced gentlemen float around Sunnydale stealing hearts, another creepy, friendly-face gentleman floats around Yale robbing cradles. Giles and Olivia's/Lorelai and Jason's romantic evenings both involve eerily silent onlookers. (The Gentlemen/Cyrus) And as Rory spats with her brash old friend, Willow silently makes a shy new friend.  Buffy and Spike are getting married!... or so it seems. Also seems as if Richard has been hiding a huge secret his entire marriage. Regardless, delicious bloody beverages are flirtatiously consumed by all. Both Buffy and Lorelai end up on outdoor first dates with very persistent men, but not before Lorelai ruins her mother's day by striking up an awkward bathroom conversation. Meanwhile Willow casts a middle of the night bathroom spell that ruins everyone else's day. Rory sees something she wish she hadn't. Giles wishes he could see anything, and we now own a kitty couch!

Vengeance & Diggers30 Nov 202101:05:32

Buffy S4 E8 "Pangs"/Gilmore Girls S4 E8 "Die, Jerk"

Slightly late, yet still topical, Buffy struggles with Thanksgiving, both the meal preparation and the general concept. While Buffy decides how to appropriately deal with a vengeance spirit, Rory deals with a vengeance... ballerina? A thirsty Anya insists on watching Xander dig, and a thirsty Digger insists on a date with Lorelai. Lorelai makes a big public scene about the return of Luke's ex, while Angel creeps around Sunnydale avoiding his. Rory discovers the word hippo. Buffy discovers a bear. And we tell you all about the well-known American tradition of the college salary.

Pulling Back the Curtain23 Nov 202101:05:31

Gilmore Girls S4 E7 "The Festival of Living Art"/Buffy S4 E7 "The Initiative"

Both shows reveal very impressive large-scale operations: one carefully developed by scientists over time, the other pulled together by some kooky townsfolk in under a week. Lane must decide if an older man is a good fit for her band, while Willow must decide if an older man is a good fit for her friend. The men of UC Sunnydale have some vile things to say about women, but maybe not as bad as what the men of Stars Hollow say to poor pregnant Sookie. Kirk deals with a traitor. Riley's also maybe not who we thought he was. AND we tease a future podcast idea!?

Uncanny Attraction16 Nov 202101:06:24

Buffy S4 E6 "Wild at Heart"/Gilmore Girls S4 E6 "An Affair to Remember"

This week's episode of Gilmore Girls might be called "An Affair to Remember," but the Buffy episode certainly features a much bigger affair. As much as he wants to resist, Oz just can't keep his paws off a new mystery woman, while in Stars Hollow, a different new woman mysteriously can't keep her hands off of... Kirk? Though one is 1000% more employed than the other, both Giles and Digger rock a subtle 5 o'clock shadow. Due to actions beyond their control, Emily and Willow are dealt emotional blows and both act the hell out of it. And Bryan tells an embarrassing trick-or-treating story.

Has our use of the phrase "not good nubs" got you curious? Do yourself a favor and check out this sketch for reference.

Feelin' That Draft09 Nov 202101:14:54

Gilmore Girls S4 E5 "The Fundamental Things Apply"/Buffy S4 E5 "Beer Bad"

Both Rory and Buffy are weirdly pressured into interacting with a group 4 dorky college guys, but from there these episodes take MUCH different paths. Both women struggle with rejection and the fact that not every relationship needs to be immediately serious. While Tana explains the power of a woman's musk, we get to witness it firsthand over in Sunnydale. While Rory dives into the world of casual dating, Parker mansplains casual sex to Willow. Lorelai tries to comfort Luke by having a movie night, but maybe somebody should do the same for Giles? He seems not okay...

Tiny Men02 Nov 202101:07:05

Buffy S4 E4 "Fear, Itself"/Gilmore Girls S4 E4 "Chicken or Beef?"

Though this week's villains may make a lot of noise and nearly drive our heroes into madness, in the end they are just weak little douches. Alpha Delta's Halloween party may be out of control, but maybe not as out of control as Dean on his wedding eve. Kirk breaks into Lorelai's house to protect her from knife-wielding gunmen. Giles breaks into a house by wielding a chainsaw in order to protect the Scoobies. Rory and Buffy both must deal with complicated feelings about their former flames, and we're dealing with our cat's poop problem!

Unexpectedly-Naked Visitors26 Oct 202101:21:47

Gilmore Girls S4 E3 "The Hobbit, the Sofa and Digger Stiles"/Buffy S4 E3 "The Harsh Light of Day"

Rory and Buffy both attend their first college parties, which both end in nakedness in one way or another. They're also both reunited with old high school friends, some more vampirey than others. Richard's new business partner isn't the only Digger in this episode, as Spike is working on a little digging project of his own, in search of a powerful ring, which weirdly coincides with the Lord of the Rings-themed party Lorelai and Sookie are catering. The dorms in both shows could really use better security, and Lorelai and Xander both use juice boxes to relieve tense situations.

Stacey said this deleted scene was from S4 E2. It's actually from E1, but it's cute scene that explains what Lane is up to, where Dave is, and pays off the Jackson baby button joke.

Soul-Sucking Roommates19 Oct 202101:10:40

Buffy S4 E2 "Living Conditions"/Gilmore Girls S4 E2 "The Lorelais' First Day at Yale"

One of the titular roommates may be more of a literal soul-sucker than the other, but.... Rory has to share a room with Paris, who comes with a life coach named Terrance, and Buffy's Cher-obsessed roommate, Kathy, comes with a pursuant demon named Taparrich. While Kathy borrows and ruin's Buffy's sweater, Lorelai borrows and likely ruins Luke's truck. The Gilmores consume an entire neighborhood's worth of takeout. Buffy downs an entire carton of milk. We discuss enthralling topics such as phone bills and flossing, and argue about which show's dorm room is the most stupidly big.

Troublesome Sundays12 Oct 202101:03:11

Gilmore Girls S4 E1 "Ballrooms and Biscotti"/Buffy S4 E1 "The Freshman"

While Rory deals with a town menace tying to bribe her with a sundae to do his ice cream bidding, Buffy deals with a literal demon named Sunday. The Gilmore Girls just got back from Europe, but they're not the only ones who've recently encountered a European, eh Giles? *cough* Olivia *cough* All 3 of our titular girls use being disoriented as an excuse for their flakiness. Both Luke and Xander have juicy summer stories they really don't want to tell. Plus Stacey shares a bad experience she had with a college class, and Bryan shares a bad experience he had with bed bugs.

Getting the Part23 Apr 202401:19:09

Firefly Episode 8 "Out of Gas"/Bunheads Episode 8 "Blank Up, It's Time"

Malcom disparately needs to find a part in order to save his crew. Meanwhile Boo receives a part completely out of the blue. We learn that Inara has almost as many rules as Fanny, and that some of both their rules have recently been broken. We learn that Zoë was initially not a fan of Wash, so perhaps there's hope for Boo to come around on Carl. Gadot is not in this episode of Bunheads, but a version of him showed up in this week's Firefly. Stacey learns the word boff, something both Michelle and Kaylee partake in this episode. And we won a trophy in our homeland!

Season 3 Wrap-up05 Oct 202100:57:45

In this special episode, we recap our general thoughts on Season 3 of both shows. We count down our top 5 moments, discuss our least favorite moments, reveal our favorite episodes, share some predictions, AND decide which show we thought was better overall. Stacey's favorite Buffy moments may or may not all be Giles-related. Bryan may or may not hate the Gilmore Girls "la las." But most importantly, these were 2 solid seasons of television, and we can't wait to see what Season 4 has in store. Thanks so much for listening and following us on this journey!

Our Patreon page is now live!!! We've got 3 different tiers of bonus content available, including early access to extended episode previews, monthly bloopers and deleted moments, monthly watch parties, and of course, our weekly Angel video reviews! Your support means so much to us, and we can't wait to bring our subscribers all the bonus content they deserve. AND... don't forget to mark your calendars for 8pm EST this Friday Oct 8th, when we'll be celebrating our Patreon launch with a watch party! Graduations & Silent Goodbyes28 Sep 202101:28:34

Gilmore Girls S3 E22: "Those Are Strings, Pinocchio"/Buffy S3 E22: "Graduation Day (Part 2)"

Despite their boyfriends kinda just silently walking away towards their spinoff sets, Rory and Buffy survived high school! Neither school seems so scary anymore, but they did have to blow one of them up to ensure that. Both ceremonies are threatened by tragedy, one when Lorelai faces financial ruin and has to sit next to her mother, and the other when the speaker loses the woman he's been grooming and nearly destroys the town. Luke and Wesley try to not-so-subtly ask their crushes to ask them to stick around. And as good as these episodes are, we come up with some even better endings.

Highly recommend watching these deleted scenes from this week's episode of Gilmore Girls.
Don't forget to watch this unaired clip from Jess's never-aired spinoff.

Ladies on the Roof21 Sep 202101:09:05

Buffy S3 E21: "Graduation Day (Part 1)"/Gilmore Girls S3 E21: "Here Comes the Son"

Both Buffy and the Gilmore Girls have a lot to get done before Graduation Day. Buffy might be putting off coming up with a plan, but she checks one big item off her to do list on a rooftop. Meanwhile Jess's dad's girlfriend, Sasha, is also on a rooftop, but we're not really sure why. This episode of Buffy may be mostly setup for the events of the finale, but this episode of Gilmore Girls is definitely mostly setup up for a show that never existed. Buffy's officially over the Watchers Council. Lorelai's officially over trying to be nice to her mother. And....we have a VERY big announcement!

So... About the Prom...14 Sep 202101:18:56

Gilmore Girls S3 E20: "Say Goodnight, Gracie"/Buffy S3 E20: "The Prom"

Wow! These episodes had a LOT of similarities. We've got two senior girls desperate to get their aloof lovers to take them to prom, but all the aloof lovers wanna do is abruptly dump their girlfriends to move to LA for their own spinoffs. We've got scenes in churches. We've got talk of scones. We've got boyfriends having frank conversations with their prospective mothers-in-law about whether or not it's appropriate to date their daughters. And though there's not much to say about the Buffy villain situation this week, we had LOTS to say about Dean's big announcement.

Late-Night School Rendezvous07 Sep 202101:12:33

Buffy S3 E19: "Choices"/Gilmore Girls S3 E19: "Keg! Max!"

Lorelai and the Scooby gang find themselves in hot water after their impromptu secret meetings don't go quite as planned. While Lorelai comes face to face with rejection, the Scoobies come face to face with mysterious face-eating box dwellers. The cops arrive just in time to catch Dean and Jess exchanging blows over Rory, as well as Buffy and the Mayor exchanging prisoners and relationship advice. Cordelia's on a real mean girl kick, but there's perhaps no meaner girl than that awful woman in Chilton's Booster Club. And you won't believe Bryan's Hummel troubles!

Thoughtful Gifts That Totally Backfire31 Aug 202101:13:06

Gilmore Girls S3 E18: "Happy Birthday, Baby"/Buffy S3 E18: "Earshot"

Lorelai and Buffy both get huge gifts that come with more consequences than expected, including severe cheese burns, the ability to foresee mass murder, and mom drama. Bryan's got some thoughts on the iconic Jess "looked it up" moment, and Stacey has some thoughts about Angel in general, who's perhaps been doing some Yahooing of his own. The Tobin/Michel rivalry just may rival that of Giles and Wesley. And all the food is especially big in this episode of Gilmore Girls, but maybe not as big as the secret Buffy learns from Joyce.

Gilmore Girls S3 E16: "The Big One"/Buffy S3 E16: "Doppelgangland"

When Principal Snyder asks Willow to tutor Percy, and Headmaster Charleston asks Paris to share a speech with Rory, both react by showing their bad side, getting their sexy on, and turning celebratory gatherings into spectacles all about them. Meanwhile, The Mayor tries to impress Faith with a PlayStation. Luke tries to impress Nicole with salads. Anya's flunking math. Jackson's doing baby math. Lorelai and Cordelia trap people into giving them relationship closure. And Bryan tells all about the "clench and hold" method.

Buffy S3 E15: "Consequences"/Gilmore Girls S3 E15: "Face-Off"

This week's full of jealousy, secret keeping, secret rendezvous, and tattletales. Buffy and Emily can no longer contain their emotions/secrets and out Faith and Trix for hiding a murder and a secret lover, RESPECTIVELY! Rory and Willow are sad to find out their former flames have moved on. Too late ladies! Ya messed up! You coulda had those guys if you really wanted to! Lorelai's simultaneously doing damage control for Emily and Rory. Angel's simultaneously working as a crime scene investigator and a therapist. And we share a LOT about the churches we went to growing up.

What's He Doing With That Ladle?03 Aug 202101:12:53

Gilmore Girls S3 E14: "Swan Song"/Buffy S3 E14: "Bad Girls"

Never thought a ladle would be what linked the 2 episodes, but here we are! Whether it be slimy demon or swan, our heroes must do what they can to defeat some particularly nasty water beasts. Rory & Jess AND Faith & Buffy seem to be bonding more than ever, but will fundamental differences in their worldviews strain their relationships beyond repair? While Emily manages to convincingly fake some respect for Jess, no one even TRIES to respect new watcher, Wesley. And while Lane struggles to keep her relationship hidden, Balthazar exposes... SO so much.

One-Eyed, Scruffy Men09 Apr 202401:26:19

Bunheads Episode 7 "What's Your Damage, Heather?"/Firefly Episode 7 "Jaynestown"

One's a familiar face from Jayne's past, back for revenge. The other's a familiar face from our Gilmore Slayer past, back as a sh*tty plumber, and they both have one eye. Coincidence, Amy!?! It's hard to imagine which smells worse, Fanny's mildewy dressing room, or Jayne's muddy planet. Also which is more disgusting, mudder's milk or that fried food buffet the bunheads consumed. Neither Michelle nor the Magistrate's son feel like grownups, and later both Sasha and the Magistrate's son act out in a big way to get adults to notice them. And Bryan puts his spin on a Olsen Twins classic.

2 Shows 4 Stories27 Jul 202101:10:50

Buffy S3 E13: "The Zeppo"/Gilmore Girls S3 E13: "Dear Emily and Richard"

Interestingly, both shows told 2 simultaneous stories, showing characters in different lights - Xander as a hero, and the Gilmores in a sepia tone. Luke overthinks his date with a lawyer, while Xander has an impromptu date with a woman who was likely raised by cars. Despite Jess's best efforts, only one of the dates ends in sex, but not with either aforementioned woman. While Rory takes on a demanding job as a personal labor assistant, Buffy reminds us HARD that Giles is fired as f*ck. Bryan's been learning about reproduction from a "doctor" at a bus stop, and Sherry screwed up!

“Like a Girl”20 Jul 202101:05:10

Gilmore Girls S3 E12: "Lorelai Out of Water"/Buffy S3 E12: "Helpless"

Wow! It's our 50th episode! Bryan celebrates by confessing some wild things he did to impress the ladies pre-Stacey, and Stacey celebrates by forgetting the details of a beloved fairy tale. Rory and Lane celebrate one of the many Korean marriages they've apparently been attending this whole time, while Buffy celebrates her birthday by almost dying in a Saw house. Lorelai and Giles disrespectfully lie to Luke and Buffy, respectively. Honestly the shit Giles does to Buffy is pretty messed up, and he feels almost as bad about it as Lorelai does about the actual fishing part of fishing.

The Worst Episodes of the Season?13 Jul 202100:58:44

Buffy S3 E11: "Gingerbread"/Gilmore Girls S3 E11: "I Solemnly Swear"

The internet doesn't think very highly of these episodes, but we'll be the judge. Two sweet men attempt to subtly seduce Sookie & Lorelai, while two sweet kids convince some checked-out moms to publicly execute their daughters. Lorelai may have to lie under oath to appease her mom, meanwhile Buffy's nearly put to death for being completely honest with hers. Willow & Rory's secret attempts to do nice things for their friends backfire, nearly resulting in death, Willow by stake burning. Rory by dull sword. And we've uncovered a Harry Potter crossover conspiracy that you've gotta hear to believe!

Introduction - 0:00
Buffy S3 E11: Gingerbread - 5:07
Meanwhile on Charmed - 28:49
Gilmore Girls S3 E11: I Solemnly Swear - 31:45

Fake Snow06 Jul 202101:08:30

Gilmore Girls S3 E10: "That'll Do, Pig"/Buffy S3 E10: "Amends"

It's Christmas in July, and our characters are celebrating by rekindling relationships with estranged loved ones, getting surprise visits from Grandma, and of course confronting literal demons from their past until the snow saves them. Our Jewish friends, Paris and Willow, celebrate Christmas with their boyfriends by offering to give up Hanukkah/their virginity, respectively. When pushed to his breaking point, Angel nearly offs himself. Meanwhile Emily handles a similar situation by slowly eating a bean. And Buffy's hair department decided to get a little experimental this week.
