About The Mayor – Cllr Mike Garner

Cllr Garner was the first ever Green Party councillor elected in 2019 onto both the Town and District councils representing the people in the ward of St Peter’s, a role he has thoroughly enjoyed. In 2020 he became leader of the Green Party at Thanet District Council. He is now particularly pleased to be the first Green Party councillor to have been elected as a Mayor in Thanet but acknowledges that it is not a party-political role. Instead, he recognises it as an opportunity to work with all councillors, council officers, and residents to make the town a place to be proud to live in and one which visitors want to stay and come back to.

Hello my name is Yuna I am a story teller and a songstress. I'm the founder of Yuna's Young Friends. I spend time in Broadstairs with my partner and love now being part of the local community.

I am involved in the local choir in St Peters and I host groups with children in the Old Curiosity Shop in Broadstairs meeting and entertaining children and parents. I hoping to expand my groups throughout Broadstairs so please contact me if you would like me to come along.

Local Broadstairs resident Nigel tells us about his life as a musician and Festival Director and founder of the Broadstairs Blues Bash which he started 18 years ago. He has been involved in all types of music for 30 years. Tour managing, performance, The harmonica being his favoured instrument which will feature in the podcast with an amazing live performance.

Broadstairs Blues Bash is a FREE Blues music festival which is now into its EIGHTEENTH year. It takes place annually in mid-February in the Victorian sea-side town of Broadstairs in Kent, England, UK.

Martin Cheek is a versatile mosaic artist who initially founded the technique of incorporating glass fusions into his mosaics. In so doing, he essentially transformed the art and added unique textural interest to his work. The intricately detailed glass fusions, all made by Martin in his workshop, take his mosaics to another dimension, adding varying degrees of reflectivity and energy, something not easily obtained using traditional mosaic materials.

Martin is originally from Birmingham, England, and was educated at Exeter College of Art and Design. He made award-winning films as a student, worked on several puppet animation projects including The Wind in the Willows, Paddington Bear, Noddy in Toyland and Portland Bill, before setting up his own production company, Cheeky Films, Ltd. He also served for many years as a part-time lecturer at the Royal College of Art and was an art critic for The Daily Express.

St Peters Village Tour

Our flagship award winning Village Tour and meet many costumed characters from past centuries along with some surprises along the way! During the tour you will see the flint built church and find out a little more about its long history. You will hear of conditions in the workhouse, the Newbolts breakfast concerts for hundreds of fashionable people, the tower used in the Napoleonic wars, famous (and infamous) local residents and our ancient seat of local government for the area.

Dean Spinks who was born in Broadstairs is a locally based photographer who is extremely well know here in the town for his amazing photographs of sunsets, moon shots and images capturing the beautiful coastline of this area.

His photographs have been exhibited in galleries in the town and over 300 have appeared for the background of the weather reports on Meridian, BBC and other channels.

Everybody in Broadstairs will know Paul. He is always out in all weathers and will always stop for chat. He can been seen up the High Street and the top of Viking Bay doing an important job keeping these areas clean and Tidy. When you listen to our chat you will see how much he enjoys his job being a very important part of the Broadstairs Community who as I mentioned we all know.
