99CR 48: Mulholland Drive
Episode 48
lundi 15 décembre 2025 • Duration 02:01:32
This week we're doing David Lynch! We dissect his 2001 Hollywood nightmare, Mulholland Drive. David Lynch is one of our favorite filmmakers, period, and one of the greatest of all time and this may be his best movie. Originally conceived as a new television series for ABC, the network ultimately passed on it and Lynch was given the opportunity to repurpose the footage for a new feature.
This movie is about Betty, or maybe it's about Diane. Or hell! It may be about both of them. Are they same person? Perhaps. Following a terrible car accident, a mysterious woman finds her way into the life of Betty and together the two of them investigate the mystery of her amnesia. Someone was trying to kill her when she lost her memory. Who wants her dead? I guess we'll find out. Or maybe we won't. It's a David Lynch movie, after all. Everything goes apeshit in that typical David Lynch way and it turns out that this may have all been the fantasy of a deeply mentally ill woman named Diane Selwyn. Or maybe not. Who can say, really?
We break it down and subject it to our own interpretations and if you want to know what those are you'll have to listen to the episode.

92: A Return To Salem's Lot
Episode 92
lundi 8 décembre 2025 • Duration 01:47:29
This week we're looking at Larry Cohen's bizarre sequel to Tobe Hooper's hit TV miniseries, Salem's Lot which was based on the novel by Stephen King. While the studio bent over backwards to convince video renters that this movie was also from the mind of Stephen King and also had that cool Kurt Barlow vampire, Cohen's movie bears very, very little in common with the original.
When anthropologist Joe Weber is called back to New York to deal with his delinquent son, he decides to reconnect with the kid by moving out to an old cottage he inherited from his aunt in Salem's Lot, Maine. When they arrive, however, they quickly learn that the town is haven to a race of vampires hiding in plain sight. They have plans for Joe and his son Jeremy and are desperately trying to maintain their ancient way of life.
Cohen set out to make a satire of American conservatism in the 80's with this movie but the end product doesn't quite stick the landing.

86: Ghostwatch
Episode 86
lundi 6 octobre 2025 • Duration 01:51:57
This week we take on another made-for-tv movie -- another British made-for-tv movie -- as we take in the notorious BBC Halloween stunt, Ghoswatch. In 1992 the BBC set out to make a movie about a paranormal investigation gone horribly awry. The kicker is that it's cast with real BBC personalities and was kinda/sorta presented to the English TV watching public as a real investigation. A portion of the viewers were deeply affected by the movie and it resulted in a minor public panic that resulted in some actual diagnosed cases of PTSD for some viewers and one very tragic suicide. Since that time, Ghostwatch has lived in the imagination of British viewers who watched it and were either scared out of their fucking minds or were seriously entertained because there's no two ways about it, Ghostwatch is a good time.
Taking notes from the Enfield Poltergeist investigation of the late 1970's, Ghostwatch presents a family in trouble in some council housing in North London. The mother is at wits end. Her daughters are being harassed by a terrible spirit that they call Pipes. As the movie unfolds across 90 minutes, we learn more about the neighborhood, the old local legend of Mother Seddons and the terrible secret of Raymond Tunstall. Pipes The Ghost hides in plain sight among numerous shots and the whole comes together as all hell breaks loose and the TV broadcast accidentally lets a terrible force loose across all of England.

Episode 6
lundi 26 février 2024 • Duration 01:31:38
Bryan and Dave get ready to break the ice and take a trip back to 1986 to relive BMX madness in the form of Rad, a sports movie that fails on every front and still manages to command a significant cult movie presence in history.
It's the story of Cru Jones, a small-town kid with a dream who just need one chance to prove to the world that he's best BMX rider in the world, to prove that he's rad. Fortunately, the world is ready to just hand over the glory as he doesn't really have to work or struggle very hard to realize his dreams.

36: Dawn of the Dead
Episode 36
lundi 19 février 2024 • Duration 02:36:27
Bryan and Dave celebrate one year of podcasting with a real deep dive into George Romero's paradigm shifting zombie epic, Dawn of the Dead. In the history of horror movies, there are only a few movies that changed the way movies are made and viewed and this is one of them. It's a zombie survival fantasy set in shopping mall with wild shifts in tone that don't always work and a graphic violence about it that its contemporaries did not share. After this one came out, everybody in Italy was suddenly making zombie horror movies.

35: My Bloody Valentine (Bonus)
Episode 35
mercredi 14 février 2024 • Duration 02:10:25
Listen up, hosers! Dave and Bryan love you and have sent you this Valentine's Day love letter to 1981's Canadian slasher movie classic, My Bloody Valentine. It's better than you expect it to be, with a cast of people that you actually grow to like. Sure, it's another slice and dice picture from the golden age of slashers but not too many of them paid this much attention to the craft of telling a story. How does this movie hold up to modern standards? You're going to have to listen to find out.

99CR 05: Ganja & Hess
Episode 5
lundi 12 février 2024 • Duration 01:38:05
This week, Dave and Bryan celebrate Black History Month with a look at Bill Gunn's delirious 1973 vampire movie, Ganja & Hess, which stars Gunn, Marlene Clark, and Duane Jones from Night of the Living Dead. It's a sleepy, dreamy art film about black identity, gender, class, and the loneliness of a man without ancestry as damaged people deal with themes of blackness in America through the gauzy lens of a vampire movie. Often lumped in with blaxploitation movies like Blacula and Shaft, it is anything but.

33: X-Ray w/guests Jonny Atkinson and Aileen Clark
Episode 33
lundi 5 février 2024 • Duration 01:46:06
This week Bryan and Dave are joined by Jonny and Aileen from the Uy Que Horror podcast for a maddening breakdown of the Cannon Films deep cut, X-Ray (aka Hospital Massacre), starring Barbi Benton as a woman who just needs to pick up her check-up results and spends the rest of the day in a Franz Kafka nightmare, navigating a hospital staffed by intense, antagonistic hospital staff and a masked murderer from her past. This whole movie is bonkers.

99CR 04: Phantom of the Paradise
Episode 4
lundi 29 janvier 2024 • Duration 01:59:44
Dave and Bryan take a look at a staple of the cult movie circuit, Brian De Palma's bizarre pop music opera and riff on gothic horror, Phantom of the Paradise. It's a wild ride through the nostalgia wave of the 1970's, standout performances from a bright cast, and the music of the movie's villain, Paul Williams, whose hair is just magnificent!

32: Fright Night w/guest Peaches Christ
Episode 32
lundi 22 janvier 2024 • Duration 02:16:13
Bryan and Dave are joined this week by drag performer extraordinaire, Peaches Christ, to talk about the arch-80's vampire classic from 1985, Fright Night, starring William Ragsdale, Roddy McDowall, and Chris Sarandon (making his second appearance on the pod). It's an awesome movie that could have been even better for reasons we get deep in the weeds over.
