| Ungluing where you're stuck, with the Collage Coaching Technique Founder Andrea Watts | 08 Aug 2022 | 00:38:06 | |
Andrea Watts is the author of Collage as a Creative Coaching Tool and creator of The Collage Coaching Technique™ an arts-based approach to coaching that reconnects you to your inner wisdom and is a powerful way to get unstuck as you explore and express the hidden experiences and mindsets that influence how you feel, think, and behave. From a work perspective, Covid meant she had to take her coaching practice and training online, this caused her to find a creative way to transition the Collage Coaching Technique online. It's not surprising she ended up with a creative business. She was a child who enjoyed making things and playing a lot. She was always very curious and wanted to know how things worked. She’s one of 4 children, and the daughter of immigrants from Jamaica. She was brought up in a Christian home and her faith and spirituality remain important to her. Motherhood was her biggest adventure in her early adulthood. Teaching and learning from her daughter, playing and being creative with her. She loved it. She stayed at home with her for 2 years before getting employment. Her last paid job was where she experienced the biggest challenge, because she was becoming more aware of what she found fulfilling. Being unable to do this affected her wellbeing and identity, so she went to see a careers coach. Her vision is to see it being used as a creative coaching tool for releasing people’s potential globally. Her coaching practice positively impacts her clients and helps to create the changes they want to see. She trains other coaches so am making an impact by introducing a new tool to the coaching profession. While not intentionally, she’s aware that her work inspires others and encourages them to use creative approaches in coaching. Thanks so much Andrea for sharing this creative collage technique that anyone can use to gain real insights into where they’re stuck and what they really want from life. Thanks also for showing us how to use fo Brave New Girls podcast champions women rebel raisers moving mountains for people & the planet. | Smashing it! The art of getting what you want with Alison Edgar MBE | 01 Aug 2022 | 00:35:59
This week’s guest is Alison Edgar MBE known as the ‘The Entrepreneurs Godmother’ helping businesses and entrepreneurs to grow, including The Apprentice & Dragons Den winners with their businesses. She is also the author of bestselling book SMASH IT! The art of getting what you want. Instead of sitting around during the pandemic, she decided to embrace the lockdown and write her best-selling book ‘SMASH IT! The Art of Getting What YOU Want’, which helped grow the her own business to new levels! Leaving home at 19, she had a plan to travel the world for 6 months. She loved travelling so much that she moved to Cape town at 21 and before she knew it 6 months had turned into 6 years. Having her two sons was a game changer for her. Her first birth was very traumatic, and she nearly lost her life. Thankfully, after three months she got better and was discharged from hospital. This made her rethink the direction of her life and made her crave a change. Leaving her corporate job – and her comfort zone - at 46 years old, she decided it was time for a new direction. She set up her first business ‘Sales Coaching Solutions’ and gave it her all. She realised that she had a passion for helping businesses and entrepreneurs to grow so a few years after this she set up ‘The Entrepreneurs Godmother’ and helped many people including The Apprentice & Dragons Den winners with their businesses. Fast forward to 2022 and she runs two businesses, ‘SMASH IT! Training’ and ‘Alison Edgar MBE – Keynote Speaker’. Both businesses are designed to help others in different aspects of their lives. SMASH IT! Training helps teams to flourish with contemporary training and coaching. We offer commination training, leadership training, sales training and much more. Alison Edgar MBE - Keynote Speaker offers motivational speaking at events to help inspire and invigorate audiences of teams or entrepreneurs. She defines courage as the ability to not be afraid to fail. So many people fear change due to the risk of failing, but in reality, it is our only constant. Change is the only thing that we can guarantee will happen to us throughout our lives, so why live in fear of it? Not fearing change and learning to embrace it is one of the most courageous things that you can do. Thanks Alison for inspiring entrepreneurs and business owners to get the Brave New Girls podcast champions women rebel raisers moving mountains for people & the planet. | Optimizing your brain with Founder Portia Asli | 25 Jul 2022 | 00:35:08
This week’s guest is Portia Asli, a licensed engineer and founder of Optimyzed Brain. She helps entrepreneurs optimize their brains for high-performance using a science-based method that supports people to prioritize their brain health and empower them with actionable ways to increase their mental performance for success in business. Founding Optimyzed Brain Portia went from a small offline consulting practice to building and launching a global-based business during the pandemic, helping company leaders optimize their brain health for peak mental performance, engineering a step-by-step science-based system that improves sleep, energy levels, concentration, focus, and mental clarity, less work hours and more more quality time. Portia emigrated at the age of 10 with her family from Iran to Canada. Hard-working immigrant parents role modelled strong work ethics in her but also being a woman immigrant in North America provided the freedom that didn't exist in Iran and this was the motivation to seize the opportunity to travel, explore and discover how she could create a positive global impact She went to a top University and worked hard but burn out and depression during her rigorous engineering studies began a 15-year journey of studying how our lifestyle and behaviour impacts our brain performance. Now she helps driven senior leaders to achieve great heights by helping them optimize their brains for peak mental performance through science-based micro behavioural and lifestyle improvements. When striving for success brain health & mental performance can take the back seat. This can show up as stress, anxiety, overwhelm, brain fog, exhaustion, imposter syndrome, insomnia, procrastination, and low self-confidence. She is helping senior leaders improve their sleep, and nutrition, reduce stress and anxiety, enhance mental clarity and focus in less than five weeks.
Thanks Portia for sharing how you have developed ways to help people to optimise their own natural abilities so that they can be their most effective, productive and happy. And also for showing us that we can find ways to optimise our brain so we aren’t running on empty but instead, living and working in a balanced and fruitful way.

Julie was the middle girl of 5 daughters with an alcoholic abusive father was jailed for manufacturing meth-amphetamine, but she was always a positive child and understood that his problem was his problem and not hers. However she had a car accident at the age of 18 and the chiropractor who was meant to be healing her was a sexual predator, and it took her a couple of years to recover. With her faith and training herself in self-care, she overcame the trauma, keen to not remain haunted by the man. | Grow your own green-thinking community with filmmaker Margaret To | 13 Jun 2022 | 00:32:29
This week’s guest is Margaret To, founder of Studio SAKA, who helps scientists, educators, non-profits, entrepreneurs and government agencies better communicate social and climate solutions through film, design, and immersive experiences - in order to engage public conversations and inspire action. In 2020 Margaret did a project that changed her. It was a video series about regenerative agriculture in Hawaii. It made her rethink how she was living and she decided to start her own small vegetable plot with her nieces. At 17, she had left Hong Kong and moved to Los Angeles to study design and animation- it was freeing yet challenging, because her internal belief system wasn’t yet matching her purpose. But as her artistic sense evolved so did her consciousness. After watching the film Before The Flood by Fisher Stevens, the Climate Crisis really hit home for her and she started to look at ways that she could communicate creatively about climate solutions. After a few years working as a freelancer she decided to create her own film studio. But first she joined a women's entrepreneurship class so that she approached her business Studio SAKA with a business head. Now she does design, animation, and creative direction at Studio SAKA, all with the environment, sustainability and climate solutions front of mind. Over time she has become someone who is able to embrace fear, not letting fear hinder her but rather turning fear into a drive and motivation to keep moving forward. Thanks so much Margaret for channelling your creativity for climate change and helping others see how they can make a difference too. Thanks also for showing us that wherever we’re at we can all make the incremental changes that are needed to help save our planet.

| Going deep for your mental health with freediver & breathing expert Helena Bourdillon | 30 May 2022 | 00:45:40 | |
Warning this episode speaks about depression, and suicide ideation. If you are affected by these issues please seek help, support or contact https://www.thecalmzone.net/ Helena was kept out of the water for the last couple of years due to covid so she has focused on her own & others' therapeutic journeys, using breath-work, at a time when many people were feeling loneliness, anxiety and depression. For some this was a new feeling, for others the pandemic exacerbated the condition. From a young age Helena had suffered with depression and at a certain point realised she was experiencing suicide ideation. Always a lover of water, it was when she experienced free-diving that she felt for the first time, what it was like for the chatter in her head to quieten down and to feel a deep relaxation. It was when she did a crowd funding video to help her go the 2017 Freediving Depth World Championships that she talked openly about her depression for the first time. She wanted to dive deeper because the deeper she went, the more of a platform she would have to tell and show people what was possible: that life is worth living and worth fighting for. The breath work sessions she now does are geared towards helping people who suffer with anxiety and panic attacks as well as helping people who suffer with Long Covid etc Some days it is just making it out of bed. But being true to yourself and what you need takes courage, and each intentional breath you take can help you get to the next step. Thanks so much Helena for being so open about suicide and chronic depression and for daring to inspire others by diving deeper, breathing better, and learning to live happier. Thanks also for showing us that our breath is our best friend and that by using it well we can live better, deeper, more fulfilling lives.

| Learning the wisdom of prescription cannabis with Dr Callie Seaman | 16 May 2022 | 00:31:34 | |
This week’s guest is Dr Callie Seaman, founder of Aqualabs Ltd, a liquid hydroponic fertilizer solution manufacturer, who also works within the legal cannabis sector with a licenced producer. She’s an active campaigner, educator & medical cannabis user, as well as director of MedCan which supports those with neurological conditions needing to use cannabis. In last 3 years Callie has been working with a number of licensed cultivators of cannabis in the UK and internationally, pushing for support for those with chronic conditions to be able to readily acquire prescription cannabis. Because of her own background she is committed to campaigning for change in how cannabis is viewed and accessed. Callie's Dad was a drug dealer. She had epileptic seizures at 15 but her Dad was forward thinking enough to introduce her to cannabis to help control the fits. Later at Sheffield she completed her degree & worked for the local hydroponic shop, Aquaculture. Her passion for growing plants grew & she taught lots of people how to grow cannabis, some very sick people & she helped many to understand the benefits of cannabis. More recently she had stopped taking cannabis but her seizures began again with a near death experience in car, with her 17 yr old son. She lost her driving license. She started to attend meetings about medical cannabis and began to get a real understanding of how cannabis can help seizures. In November 2018, the law changed in the UK so that cannabis could be prescribed and she started working with a licensed cultivator in the north west of the UK, becoming a director of one of only 4 licences in the UK. She set up Medcam to help families navigate the journey with cannabis based medical products- as well as being on the advisory board for PLEA and help patients to understand cannabis better. Later she published a book; a diary for medical cannabis users to record their consumption & be able to reflect on what works for them. Now she continues to educate the masses on the science of cannabis and remove the stigma associated with consuming cannabis & doing more research on the plant itself, focusing on trichomes and improving on the quality of prescription cannabis. Thanks so much Callie for sharing your own story of how medical cannabis has helped not just your own epilepsy, but also those with Brave New Girls podcast champions women rebel raisers moving mountains for people & the planet. | Designing your life & environment in a sustainable way, with Dee Gibson | 02 May 2022 | 00:33:45
My guest this week is Dee Gibson, a London based, residential interior designer with nearly 20 years of experience working with private, residential clients and focusing on whole house refurbishments and extensions. In 2018, Dee opened Kalukanda House, a boutique hotel in Sri Lanka which she designed and built. But life wasn’t always how she designed it to be. Dee started out doing engineering followed by accountancy, but it wasn't where her heart was, and after the accountancy firm she worked for (a top 5 global practice over 100 years old) went under, and friend died, she decided to do a life makeover. She thinks about a space differently, sources ethically, the longevity of a scheme, and how it can benefit communities. She joined the BIID sustainability committee in order to help drive thinking and build sustainable policies, & business contributes to a charity in Sri Lanka empowering abused women and girls through safe housing and education. Thanks so much Dee for helping us to understand how we too can be more creative in the way we design our lives and the environment we build around us. | A New Era with Downton Abbey TV Drama & Film Producer Liz Trubridge | 25 Apr 2022 | 00:33:58
This week’s guest is Liz Trubridge, producer of Downton Abbey, the most successful British Drama export of all time & Winner of a Primetime Emmy, a Bafta, a Golden Globe & the Producers Guild of America Award. Downton Abbey the movie hit the No 1 spot in both UK & US on it’s opening weekend; more recently followed by the movie release of 'Downtown Abbey: A New Era' During the pandemic the film industry was hugely disrupted - and yet Liz and her team managed to make this latest movie under all the covid restrictions without losing a single day. Liz grew up passionate about stories, and make believe plays, and envisioned a future where she might somehow live making those scripts come to life. After leaving University she went into TV- as a young women in a predominantly male world, but managed to find strong female mentors and guides. Nevertheless as she worked her way through the ranks there were inevitably challenges to face and slowly she found ways to help herself, mentally, spiritually & emotionally, to overcome whatever faced her with equilibrium and understanding. After she collaborated with Julian Fellows on her first feature From Time to Time, she was given the opportunity to produce what was to become 6 ward-winning series of Downton Abbey and now two movies. Downton Abbey - A New Era arrives on the silver screen as a timely and much needed up-lifting experience after two years of a global pandemic. And now Liz is producing a film about the Lockerbie plane bombing; a heart breaking tale of Jim Swire's loss of his daughter in the disaster, and his consequent search for the truth, but ultimately with love at the heart of the film. In the meantime thank you so much Liz for bringing us a slice of another era that reminds us of our humanity, and need for community, love and connection, no matter what period of time or social strata we are born into, or which side our bread is buttered. Thanks also for showing us that trusting in our life’s purpose and taking action in that direction will lead us to where we are meant to be. | Finding your true you with author of 'Purpose' Jessica Huie MBE | 18 Apr 2022 | 00:37:18
This week’s guest is Jessica Huie MBE, author of bestseller, Purpose, one of the top ten business books according to The Independent. From single mum to jet-setting journalist & publicist to the stars to labelled one of Britain’s Most Inspiring Entrepreneurs by the Evening Standard, she found her purpose, helping others to find theirs by stripping back to meet themselves. The pandemic catalysed a move to Jamaica with her 9 yr old son & that leap of faith inspired 5 further chapters of Jessica's latest book Purpose. After growing up in dysfunctional childhood, Jessica became a teen mum living in a hostel on benefits having left home at 17 with 4 GCSEs. But work & achievement became her driver and she created a glittering career in PR followed by a successful business in multi-cultural occasion cards. However it was when her father was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2016 that she became present for the first time and experienced what she came to understand to be a spiritual awakening. Having found her own sense of self, she realised it was her destiny to help others to find their purpose too. And The Purpose Academy and The Purpose Retreat were born. Her vision for the future is one where we are brave enough to live lives which are the truest expression of who we are. Once we do that, all of our social problems will take care of themselves. She believes we must be willing to feel our feelings. That’s the starting place for living our purpose. Thanks so much Jessica for sharing how you dared to live your best life which went from outward success to inner understanding, and embracing a fundamentally holistic purpose-driven life moving forwards. Thanks also for showing us how to find the courage to look beneath the surface and find out what we really want to be and do with our lives. | Books that build your brand with publisher Lucy McCarraher | 11 Apr 2022 | 00:35:40
This week’s guest is Lucy McCarraher, co-founder of the Hybrid publishing house Rethink Press & author of 12 books including A Book of One’s Own – a manifesto for women to share their expertise and make a difference. She helps you write & publish a book that will transform your business whilst creating a realisable work/life integration. Book publishing has done well during the pandemic; perhaps because people were more focused, or had more time on their hands, or at least time to reflect on what they have become experts in and now wanted to share. Lucy was always passionate about books and after a winding career in performance, TV and magazines in Australia, having two sons, going through a divorce, she returned to the UK. Thank you so much Lucy for championing women and helping them bring their expertise, experience, positive impact and influence to the world so that we start to read more nuanced and diverse books that reflect the lives we live and the businesses we run. Thanks also for showing us that even in our busy lives we can carve out space to write and share our books for the benefit of others.

| From Gangland to living the Dream, with filmmaker Aysha Scott | 04 Apr 2022 | 00:32:10 | |
Aysha Scott is the founder & CEO of A Scott Productions. She embarked on her journey into filmmaking after discovering a gap in the market for black female characters during her career as an actress. During a difficult time in her life, when she was left to raise her 10 week old son alone, she took the plunge to become an independent filmmaker. Pandemic has been a big reset for her- the film industry stopped overnight, film festivals went online, but Aysha put Dismissed, her anti-bullying film on You tube, and it went viral. Working creatively on message and issue based work finds its roots in her background in which she grew up as one of 6 children to a single mum, living in Deptford in what was called The Ghetto. She was in a gang until she realised she could choose another path, and she took herself off to college. She set up a music and entertainment company Artistquik with a grant from The Prince’s Trust and won young entrepreneur of the year award from the Black Women in Business Awards. Then she retrained as an actress, working in film, TV & theatre as well as recitals of hard-hitting message-based poetry. She has many messages and stories to share with the world, and in any way that she can make a difference in the world, she will use the power of her words to do so. She believes in being your authentic self, doing what you love, and following your dreams no matter what hurdles you face. Thanks so much Aysha, for sharing the challenges you have faced, and how you have turned them round to create work that reflects social issues that need bringing into the light so that others can see that there is always hope. Also for showing us that even when your path is strewn with obstacles, with vision and determination, it is possible to change your circumstances and create a better wa Brave New Girls podcast champions women rebel raisers moving mountains for people & the planet. | When incontinence hijacks your successful TV career, you build an online business- with Lucy Griffiths | 28 Mar 2022 | 00:34:32
My guest this week is Lucy Griffiths, a force of nature who rose to the top in the cut-throat world of video journalism, reporting in war zones& even ending up in jail for reporting in Myanmar. But after childbirth she developed severe incontinence & had to rethink her career, becoming an entrepreneur, online course officianado & author of Money While You Sleep. Lucy taught English in China and was there during the SARS outbreak, so she knew what was coming when Covid struck. Her business was already online by this time so she was able to keep it going. In fact her book Money While You Sleep helps us all to navigate disasters by creating an online income stream. She herself was forced to do just that when her successful career was brought to an abrupt halt after she gave birth to her son. Always one for travel and adventure she had reported in the four quarters of the world and loved her job for its ability to shine a light on issues that otherwise might remain hidden, such as the refugee crisis or in war-torn Burmah. Gradually she started helping other people to work in a more 'passive' way too. She had proved in her own life that anyone can build a business from their bedroom regardless of circumstance, age, location or skillset. And now she could share those tools and techniques with anyone who needed them. Her dream is to help refugees build a business and build a new life for themselves. Thanks so much Lucy, for your openness in talking about the silent burden of incontinence that so lives are hindered by, and for offering a way of making money while you sleep to bring freedom to anyone, no matter their life circumstances. Thanks also for showing us that we can all dream big and create financial freedom for ourselves through the power of serving others online. | Blue sky and sunflowers against missiles and war-mongering, with artist Alena Kuznetsova | 15 Mar 2022 | 00:27:43
This week’s guest is Alena Kuznetsova, one of Ukraine’s leading contemporary artists, who had to flee Kyiv when Russia invaded her country, leaving behind all her paintings and sculptures. We spoke when she managed to get to Lviv, where she was able to stay with a friend to regroup and decided what she was going to do next. We spoke via her phone. Having escaped to Lviv, Alena was able to talk about how in the first few days of the Russian invasion she thought she might be able to stay in Kyiv. But soon with incoming missiles detonating near her studio, it became clear she and her family couldn't stay. Born in Russia with a Russian father, she had come to Ukraine at the age of 5 years old and obtained her passport at 16. When Russia invaded, it was as a Ukrainian that she united with her people is standing up against their oppressor. As an artist Alena had developed a distinctive abstract style and a distinguished reputation, but now in the midst of war it is her citizenship that matters more; politics and saving her country over the loss of her studio and her paintings. Thanks so much Alena for sharing your personal story, and perspective of what is happening within your country on the ground. I pray that the world unites in giving Ukraine and its people the support they need to secure their freedom and the future of their sovereignty. Thanks also for showing us how to be resilient in the face of a force that doesn’t have our best interests in its heart. | Ripping it all up to start again with TV Executive Bunmi Akintonwa | 08 Mar 2022 | 00:31:55
This week’s guest is Bunmi Akintonwa, Producer, Writer, Exec Producer and CEO of the little black book co (lbbc) a UK production and distribution company backed by Impact X Studios, a fund created by a group of inspirational black investors to support underrepresented entrepreneurs with potential to make a significant difference. Always resilient and go-getting Bunmi started out as the life style editor of the Voice and contributed to a number of other Youth style mags. Then she became a TV reporter on 2nd series of a cult youth series called Network 7. Everyone working there was young, hungry and up for doing whatever was needed to get the show in the road. It was all hands on deck and everyone had a chance to test their mettle. Undaunted, she accepted another job, that took her Rome and her career bloomed until she got pregnant and found that the company didn't want women who were mothers in their midst. By the time she came back from maternity leave, her job had 'changed'. So out of the ashes she created her own TV production and Distribution company LBBC, and eventually returned to the UK armed with her international experience. But the pandemic put a stick in her spokes. She defines courage as taking risks , pushing boundaries, pushing open doors (for yourself or others) having them slammed in your face, getting up again taking risks again. This week’s guest is Angelica Black, singer-songwriter & co-founder of the band STRABE who signed with the record label PIAS in 2021. They had moved to London in Lockdown 2020 & unable to start gigging, Angelica took an inward journey to explore their sexuality & gender, knowing they were gay but also then understanding that they identified as non-binary. In 2017 Angie's dad passed away, and they starting writing songs to process their grief. They moved to Dublin, formed their band Strabe and their song Acid Love was born; later releasing the prophetic Best Worst Year In 2020 they came out as gay, and then started to explore gender, eventually coming to the realisation that they identified as non-binary. In sharing their story they hope to positively impact others who are going through their own explorations. Thank you so much Angie for talking so openly about your journey of self-discovery, so others may not feel so lonely and confused when they find they don’t fit into the tight bands of binary sexuality and gender. Also for showing us that we don’t need to be confined to straight and narrow boxes, and that when we connect deeply with ourselves we discover we are far greater than any definition would constrain us to.

This week’s guest is Louise Long a qualified as a Personal Trainer, who had a difficult relationship with food, until she had her 3 children, shifted her perspective, & began a more health-full approach to life; helping others to do so too. Last year she was blind-sided when her young son Dylan died & now she’s raising awareness for brain tumour research This interview was so powerful we decided to air it in two parts. This is PART TWO. The last two years have been tough for people – but the enforced lockdowns helped people find nature and walking- and in her business Lou Long has helped more people find health & fitness. Now training in functional nutrition, Lou talked about being unhappy as a child and “eating her emotions” and her early relationship with food, which followed her through into adulthood. It was only when she had children that she decided she didn’t want them to suffer in the way she had, so she started learning about whole food, fitness and founded her business. She realised that it was changing her mindset and mental health that helped change her relationship with food and fitness, and so that's what she starts with, with her clients. Out of the blue her then 6 year old son Dylan started to be poorly at the beginning of the first lockdown in March 2020. It was a long journey to eventually getting a diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. Lou talks openly and vulnerably about what that was like for her, Dylan and the family. Lou used all her knowledge to help Dylan live as healthfully and happily as was possible, right up to the end. My guest this week is Vivien Morgan whose documentary work for Channel 4 included Dispatches & award-winning films for ITV. Vivien's book is about fearless women who disguised themselves as men so that they could go to war and do their bit. They were early feminists in an era when women were told their place was in the home. They wanted the same opportunities as men so they dressed as men, even when that meant going to war under the threat of being killed or having to kill. Thanks Vivien for celebrating women in history who didn’t have the same advantages as us, but who knew they were made for more, and so did whatever they had to do, to live a fearless life of adventure and purpose. Thank you also for showing us that our resourcefulness as women, means we have the opportunity to create the lives we want for ourselves. | Kickstarting a mindful return to work with Lori Mihalich-Levin | 04 Jan 2022 | 00:32:13
The first in our International Women's Impact Project series- exploring how women are positively impacting the world and the courage it takes to do so. Be inspired to appreciate the impact you are making in your own way. Growing up in a family where domestic violence, alcohol & depression were the norm Lori found survival methods that took her well into a career as a healthcare lawyer. But on facing the truth about being raised around domestic violence, her focus shifted, as she began to think about starting a family of her own. She became interested supporting women going back to work after having babies, and started looking at what helps people create an enriching work/life integration; developing tools to help them bring down their anxiety levels. When she rolled out her business and support programme Mindful Return, she gave people something tangible to hold onto so that it would be possible to intentionally craft a calm home, even in the crazy swirls of life. Thank you so much Lori for successfully helping more than a thousand working parents navigate the back-to-work transition from parental leave so that especially working mums can advance their leadership role while raising a child. Thanks also for showing us that it is possible to be a mum and become a power leader in the workplace, whilst maintaining a mindful approach to work/life integration

This week’s guest is Jenny Ward, a Career & Transition Coach, specializing in professional storytelling, career planning, and network building for women who are ready to finally live a life by design instead of default. Having experienced home-working, people's ideas have changed around careers, working for others, or even leaving corporate to start their own businesses. This kind of flexibility wasn't always the case. You left school, got a job and worked the machine until retirement, or left to have kids. From an established and well paid career in recruitment she jumped shipped, trained as a coach and headed back to Canada to raise her little girl in the land where she grew up. Now she helps women get focused on clarifying skills, identifying any limiting beliefs, crafting their narrative, and getting clear on what sets them apart. Thanks Jenny for helping us navigate the challenges of work and careers so that we get to make choices that are in our best interests and so that we live through design and not by default. Thanks for showing us how to be less reactive in our work lives, and instead write our professional story in a way that serves us to live our best lives. | Selling a business for $125 million before creating an innovative healthcare app, with Bettina Hein | 30 Nov 2021 | 00:35:11
This week’s guest is Bettina Hein, a serial tech entrepreneur and founder of SVOX a text-to-speech software, which she created right out of graduate school and sold for $125 million. Now she’s founded ‘Juli’ – an AI powered health app/ tech startup that helps people with chronic health conditions. Access to doctors has been more limited during Covid and so people were more inclined to take care of and monitor their own health. This meant that Bettina's healthcare app Juli had a steep uptake, as people endeavoured to stay on top of their chronic conditions. It takes a different kind of brain to be a serial tech entrepreneur and indeed Bettina was a smart, curious girl with an insatiable appetite for learning. With a family history of entrepreneursip it was no surprise that she bounced straight from of her many degrees into co-founding a tech start-up that ended up getting sold and the profits shared amongst the stake-holders. She could have lived (frugally) for the rest of her days from the proceeds but that isn't in her DNA. She created another business Pixability, an advertising software company, which she ran for ten years. But after a health crisis during her post-partum care she decided she had another business in her and she founded Juli, the tracking app for conditions such as asthma, migraine, depression, bipolar disorder and chronic pain. The idea is that if you can track lifestyle, and internal and external stressors then you can see what your triggers are and when they are occurring. you can then decide to make changes accordingly and thereby improve the impact of your condition. Entrepreneurship is not for the faint-hearted but it does give you the freedom to be the driver of your own destiny, and despite the challenges along the way Bettina believes that if you have the courage to face that which you do not wish to face, and you put yourself out there with audaciousness, then you are more likely to succeed. Thanks Bettina for bringing your skill, expertise, creative thinking and entrepreneurship to the issue of human health and well-being, and for giving us the chance to monitor and potentially improve any chronic conditions we might suffer from, and for showing us that there are no limits to our ability to impact the world if we just believe in our the magnitude of Brave New Girls podcast champions women rebel raisers moving mountains for people & the planet. | Having an eye on your whole health in the age of blue-light screens with Dr Rani Banik | 23 Nov 2021 | 00:36:03
This week's guest is Dr. Rani Banik, America's Integrative Eye Doctor. She is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained neuro-ophthalmologist with additional training in Functional Medicine. Dr. Rani focuses on the root cause of eye diseases and uses integrative strategies for conditions of the visual system, to treat & manage them naturally. During the Pandemic often our only connection with the world was through the screen and Dr Rani noticed a sizeable increase in the visual problems of her patients. And that is just the top of the iceberg in terms of other factors in modern life that are affecting our eye health. Migraines & Macular degeneration and becoming increasingly common. And that makes life and work more challenging. Thank you so much Dr Rani for shedding light on the issues that lead to poor eye health and what we can do to look after our eyes in order that they work with and not against us for the longterm, so that we may stay healthy and effective in our businesses. | Betrayal, burlesque and healing the past, with Lora Cheadle | 16 Nov 2021 | 00:32:34
This week’s guest is Lora Cheadle, a former attorney turned burlesque dancer, who uses the concepts in burlesque to help women untangle the pain of the past and slip into a more comfortable and courageous way of being; powerfully embracing their sexuality, and creating a life they love on their terms. Lora's biggest passion growing up was dance, and in particular ballet. Instead she went to law school because she was passionate about justice and helping those who were underserved have access to justice. But with so many experiences where truth and justice did not prevail, she realised that practicing law wasn’t going to help people the way she'd envisioned. So she pivoted to coaching, and started working with people one on one before they were in legal trouble. Now she believes that no matter what, always trust your own truth. You are the only one who knows how you feel inside. Trust that feeling. All the answers and guidance you need are within! Courage is the willingness to share honestly about everything in your life that is messy, ugly, scary and raw. It’s about being willing to show up again and again, until you start feeling better, gaining some clarity, and learning to love yourself again. Thanks Lora for turning the concepts of burlesque into a powerful tool for overcoming the pains of the past and choreographing a better life; and for showing us that when we flaunt our stuff and reframe our problems from the past we can dance to a different tune in the future. | Reframing the story of your mental health with author Naomi Fryers | 25 Oct 2021 | 00:31:35
This week’s guest is Naomi Fryers, author of A Very Long Way, a non-fiction narrative about her mental health journey in which she learns about ‘overcoming’ as a basis of proof that surviving can translate into future thriving for those committed to healing. During the Pandemic, some of the drivers of mental ill health have been social isolation, job & financial worries, housing insecurities, and working in front-line services, and those already with mental health issues. Naomi talks about how it has affected her and what she has done to cope. Naomi grew up a wild child and a free spirit, with a love for writing. Even back then she could lose herself in the world of her journal. Growing up she balanced writing and jobs to cover the bills. But when she got taken down by a series of physical conditions her mental health suddenly spiralled downwards, and she was sectioned in a mental hospital. It was a terrifying experience, and one that didn't end when she returned to the outside world. Thank you so much Naomi, for sharing your own journey so that others may see their own stories reflected, and may be given a way to create resilience in their own ability to survive and thrive, and that with the right support and coping strategies we can all find a way through our mental health challenges and create a life of possibilities.
