02: Ariel Bissett on following your gut, finding a new audience, and having fun with your brand13 Jul 202000:44:12

This week on the Brand Your Passion Podcast, I was joined by Ariel Bissett, a writer and filmmaker based in British Columbia who hosts multiple podcasts, runs an annual readathon called The Reading Rush, and has a YouTube channel with almost 200,000 subscribers, among many other creative endeavours.

She has spoken at VidCon, premiered videos at Buffer Festival, was an official Man Booker Prize Vlogger, has appeared in the New York Times, Variety, HuffPost, and Forbes, and has interviewed the likes of Michelle Obama, Bill Gates, and Margaret Atwood.

In this episode we talk about following your gut when it comes to your brand, creating authentic content that you love to make, finding a new audience when your brand shifts, and the controversial topic of not having a logo for your brand. We also get an exclusive story about how Ariel chose her brand font in the most hilariously on-brand way possible.

106: How to create a cohesive brand personality as a multi-passionate creative13 Feb 202400:30:17

When you think of your favourite artists, creatives, or brands that you follow online, it’s not their brand colours, their logo, or the aesthetic of their Instagram feed that draws you in and keeps you coming back for more, it’s their personality. It’s what makes them unique and it’s what people love about you, too!

But how do you create a consistent and cohesive brand personality when you are a complex, multi-passionate creative whose mood changes daily, and whose interests evolve all of the time?

That's what we're going to talk about in today's episode. I’m going to help you get crystal clear on your brand personality by figuring out who YOU are as a person, especially as an ever-growing and ever-changing multi-passionate creative.

96: Text snippets every creative should have on hand to save you time in your business14 Nov 202300:15:02

Look, as a creative running a business, you already have 1001 things to do. What you don’t need to be spending your time doing is re-writing the same thing 100 times when it’s not necessary. But we often do. We have to apply for something and find ourselves trying to come up with a bio that makes us sound amazing for the millionth time. Or we go away and have to slap together an out of office message that magically directs people to the right places at the last minute. Or we get an Instagram DM from someone asking a question that we’ve answered before but never saved so we’re typing it out letter by letter because we’re a lovely person.

It’s tiring work but it has to be done, right?!

Yes, but it can be done differently. Easily. More efficiently. And I’m gonna show you how!

117. Eliza Williams on creating a community, applying for artist residencies and the value of relationships16 Jul 202400:48:20

Today I have the pleasure of speaking with the extremely talented illustrator, Eliza Williams of Doolittle Illustrations.

Eliza is a multi-disciplinary creative who specialises in illustration, animation and design, bringing a bit of colour into people’s lives.

Her work takes on many different forms combining both digital and traditional mediums to create a colourful little world to escape to and explore.

In this episode, Eliza shares her journey as an illustrator and talks about her experience going viral on Instagram, ending her up on the wrong side of the platform and having her account removed (don’t worry - she got it back!).

She shares her thoughts on creating a community, not a following, and why she believes that connection is at the core of all of her greatest successes.

Eliza also shares her experience of doing an art residency in Japan, her collaboration with Spotify, and some awesome little nuggets of wisdom for creatives from her own experiences.

Listen in for more on Eliza’s journey and be sure to check her out on socials below.
