而 Simone 在节目里说的一句话,也许正好概括了这一期: “A difficult experience can become part of your story without becoming your whole identity.”
| EP184 [全英] Why Is Making Friends So Hard as an Adult? | 09 sept. 2026 | 00:15:11 | |
How Modern Life Made Connection Easier—and Friendship Harder Today, I want to talk about something that sounds very simple, but the more I think about it, the more complicated it becomes: Why is it so hard to make friends as an adult? According to a major report released by the WHO last year, roughly one in six people around the world experiences loneliness. And interestingly, loneliness is actually more common among adolescents and young adults than among older people. You can be 25, living in New York, working at a big company, going to bars every weekend, with 2,000 followers on Instagram—and still feel incredibly lonely. So today, let’s talk about adult friendship: why it gets harder, what modern loneliness actually looks like, and maybe most importantly, what we can do about it.
| 06 sept. 2026 | 00:15:17 | |
Boomerang hiring is becoming more common in tech. Boomerang hiring is becoming more common in tech. Not every AI-driven layoff means AI can fully replace the affected jobs. AI regret can lead companies to rehire workers they let go too quickly. The company decided to rehire several former employees. 2. AI can automate tasks without replacing entire jobs. cut too deep|裁得太多、削减过头 Some companies may have cut too deep during the first wave of AI layoffs. human oversight|人工监督 AI-generated work still requires human oversight. judgment call|需要依赖经验、没有标准答案的判断 Whether the output is good enough to ship is ultimately a judgment call. We need to complete the knowledge transfer before they leave. You can transfer files. You can’t always transfer context. We need someone who can hit the ground running. ramp up|逐步熟悉工作并达到正常生产力 It usually takes a new employee three months to ramp up. get up to speed|跟上进度、熟悉最新情况 It won’t take them long to get back up to speed. a known quantity|知根知底、表现与能力已被了解的人 Hiring a former employee feels less risky because they’re already a known quantity. 5. What’s the total comp for this role? compensation reset|薪酬结构重整 reprice talent|重新评估、定价人才 Companies are repricing talent in the AI era. reshuffle the labor market|重新洗牌劳动力市场 AI is reshuffling the labor market. 6.
| 30 août 2026 | 00:49:43 | |
| EP181 [全英] Why Does Everyone Suddenly Have ADHD? | 26 août 2026 | 00:12:18 | |
What ADHD really is, why diagnoses are rising, and what the science actually says. I don’t know if you’ve noticed this too, but over the past few years, it feels like ADHD has gone from being a relatively niche medical term to something that’s part of everyday conversation. Someone on TikTok says, “If you do these five things, you probably have ADHD.” A friend gets diagnosed at 35 and suddenly understands why they’ve struggled their whole life. Parents are talking about it. Teachers are talking about it. Even companies are talking about creating ADHD-friendly workplaces. So naturally, a lot of people start wondering: Is everyone suddenly getting ADHD? Or maybe a better question is: Has ADHD actually become more common, or are we simply getting better at recognizing it? Today, I’d like to unpack that question. We’ll talk about what ADHD actually is, how doctors diagnose it, why diagnosis seems to be increasing, why countries like the United States appear to diagnose it more often, and finally, what treatment really looks like.
因为 -ize 背后有一个很重要的语感: to make something become a certain state 也就是:让某个东西变成某种状态,什么「化」。 The company needs to mobilize its resources quickly. She mobilized the team around a shared goal. I need coffee to mobilize my brain in the morning. Mobilize is not just to move. Mobilize is to activate hidden or scattered energy and turn it into action. 这个词来自 crystal(水晶 / 晶体)。 from scattered to structured from blurry to formed 常见搭配: crystallize an idea:让一个想法成形 crystallize your thinking:理清你的思路 crystallize your goals:明确你的目标 crystallize your strategy:让策略变清楚 crystallize the issue:让问题浮现 crystallize your feelings:理清你的感受 例句: The discussion helped crystallize my thinking. Writing my MBA essays forced me to crystallize my career goals. The meeting crystallized the real issue. Crystallize is not simply to understand. It is when something vague slowly becomes clear, structured, and real. 但在日常英文里,它还有一个非常重要的语感: to make something lose its power or effect 让某个东西失去力量、失去影响、失去杀伤力。 His humor helped neutralize the tension in the room. He neutralized the awkward silence with a joke. Writing things down helps me neutralize negative thoughts. Crystallize what is unclear. Neutralize what is harmful.

这,就是 Burning Man。 9|Without expecting anything in return 17|Start with who they are 文中表达:Don't start with what someone does. | 16 août 2026 | 00:09:11
Have you noticed that recently, no matter whether you’re scrolling through Instagram, Threads, or even Xiaohongshu, one word just keeps popping up? HYROX. I honestly feel like it has exploded almost overnight. A few years ago, I had never even heard of it. But now, I have friends signing up for races, gyms around Sydney are offering HYROX classes, and people who never used to post about fitness are suddenly sharing photos with medals around their necks. Then I started noticing something else. It’s not just everyday people. Professional athletes are doing HYROX. Olympians are doing HYROX. Entrepreneurs are doing HYROX. Fitness influencers, YouTubers, celebrities… they’re all jumping in. What is going on? Why has this event become so popular in such a short amount of time? So today, I want to talk about three things. First, what exactly is HYROX? Second, who created it, and how did it become one of the fastest-growing fitness competitions in the world? And finally—and I think this is the most interesting question—why is everyone suddenly obsessed with it? Because I actually don’t think this is just about fitness. I think HYROX tells us something about where fitness culture—and maybe even our own society—is heading.
| 12 août 2026 | 00:16:58 | |
You don’t just watch a Nolan movie. You experience it. You don’t just watch a Formula 1 race. You experience it. experience economy:体验经济 指消费者购买的不再只是产品或服务,而是整个过程中获得的体验、参与感和回忆。 Movie fans made a pilgrimage to IMAX theaters. Beatles fans make a pilgrimage to Abbey Road. 常见搭配: make a pilgrimage to somewhere:专程前往某地朝圣 03|Worth the trip worth the trip:值得专程跑一趟、值得特地去 这是日常英语里非常实用的表达,不只能用来看电影。 Watching The Odyssey in IMAX 70mm is worth the trip. That restaurant is worth the trip. That museum is worth the trip. You’re not going because you happen to have time. You’re making time for it. Scarcity makes things feel more valuable. What you’re seeing is real.
I want to start today’s episode with a question that has probably crossed the minds of millions of people around the world. Is college still worth it? Now, I feel like this question is everywhere these days. Scroll through YouTube, Reddit, or social media, and you’ll probably come across someone saying, “College is a waste of money.” Someone else will tell you that AI is replacing everything anyway. Then another person says you can learn anything online for free. Why spend years in school when you have YouTube, online courses, podcasts, and now AI? And honestly, I understand why people are asking this question. Think about the world we live in today. If you want to learn coding, there are thousands of free tutorials online. If you want to learn marketing, finance, psychology, or even philosophy, you can find lectures from some of the world’s best universities with just a few clicks. And if you’re stuck on something, AI can explain it to you in seconds. Knowledge has never been more accessible. At the same time, education has never been more expensive. In many countries, tuition continues to rise every year. Student debt has become a serious issue. Parents are wondering whether it’s still worth making such a huge investment. Students are wondering if a degree is still the best path to success. It’s a fair question. In fact, I think it’s one of the most important questions young people are asking today.
| 05 août 2026 | 00:25:04 | |
而是:“It’s been a roller coaster.” 你也可以说:“AI stocks have been on a roller coaster.” 或者:“It’s been a roller-coaster month for investors.” 例如:“AI stocks have become increasingly volatile.” Demand for AI chips surged. | EP174「I felt discouraged.」
I felt a little discouraged。 She always stood out in class. It took me a while to fit in. Do I really belong here? Take heart. Things will get better. have a crisis of confidence — 遭遇信心危机 He’s having a crisis of confidence. question yourself — 怀疑自己 I started questioning myself. feel out of your league — 感觉周围的人远比自己厉害,自己难以胜任 I felt completely out of my league. It took me a year to find my footing. I don’t just want to survive—I want to thrive. Don’t give up vs.Don’t lose heart Don’t give up 强调不要停止行动。 When everyone is exceptional, it’s easy to start feeling ordinary. Maybe I’m just not good enough. Everyone here seems to be playing in a different league. Feeling discouraged doesn’t necessarily mean you’re in the wrong place. Give yourself time to find your footing. Don’t be afraid of rooms that challenge you. They might just become the places where you grow the most.
| 29 juil. 2026 | 00:12:47 | |
Europe is experiencing another heatwave. A severe heatwave has hit Japan. We’ve been dealing with sweltering heat all week. I’m sweating like crazy. I’m sweating like a pig. The humidity is killing me. Several people were hospitalized for heatstroke. 记忆顺序: heat exhaustion(热衰竭)→ 情况继续恶化 → heatstroke(中暑/热射病) 06|夏季防暑必备表达 Stay hydrated. 07|Shade 和 shades 别搞混 shade:阴凉处、阴影 例句:Let’s find some shade. 例句:Don’t forget your shades. 另外,shades 也可以指百叶窗或遮阳帘: Pull down the shades. A: It’s brutal today. B: I know.
I don't like it. It's just a job." I don't like it. It's just a job."。

| 12 juil. 2026 | 00:11:01 | |
Let me ask you a question. How many times do you think you need to see an English word before you finally remember it? Five times? Ten times? Twenty times? I think almost every English learner has wondered about this at some point. Because we’ve all had the same experience. You’re reading an article, watching Netflix, or listening to a podcast. You come across a word you don’t know, so you look it up. You read the definition, maybe check a couple of example sentences, and think, “Alright, I’ve got it.” Then two days later… you see exactly the same word again. And somehow… you’ve forgotten it. So you look it up again. A week later, it shows up one more time. And at that point you’re thinking, “Seriously? I’ve looked up this word three times already. Why won’t it stay in my brain?”
| 08 juil. 2026 | 00:15:28 | |
What’s the big deal? Pads. Regular. Super. Overnight. With wings. Heavy flow. Ultra thin. Wait a minute. The period aisle. I’m on my period. | 05 juil. 2026 | 00:26:11
Why Do You Sound More Boring in English? Let me ask you a question. And this might sound a little bit mean, but… are you more boring when you speak English? Seriously. Think about the person you are when you speak Chinese. Maybe you’re funny. Maybe you’re sarcastic. Maybe you’re dramatic. Maybe you’re the person at the dinner table who always has a story to tell. Someone says something ridiculous, and immediately you have a reaction. You don’t need to think. You don’t need to prepare. The words just come out. You know exactly when to interrupt. You know how to make a joke. You know how to exaggerate a story just enough to make it funny. And then someone starts speaking English to you. “Really?” “Oh.” “That’s good.” “I think so.” “Maybe.” “Very interesting.” What happened? Where did that funny, interesting person go? Same person. Same brain. Same personality. But somehow, completely different energy. And I know this feeling very, very well. When I first moved to the U.S., I remember feeling like I was a less interesting version of myself. In Chinese, I could joke around. I could tease people. I could tell stories. I could be sarcastic. But in English, sometimes I would have a joke in my head. I knew exactly what I wanted to say. Then I had to figure out how to say it in English. And by the time I finally found the words, the conversation had already moved on. Everyone was laughing about something else, and I was still mentally translating my brilliant joke from thirty seconds ago. Too late. The moment was gone. So today, I want to talk about something that I don’t think we talk about enough in language learning. Why do so many smart, funny, interesting people become kind of boring when they speak a second language? And more importantly, how do you get your personality back?

| 28 juin 2026 | 00:14:44 | |
Let me ask you a question. How old do you think a child should be before they’re allowed to have social media? Thirteen? Fifteen? Sixteen? Or maybe you don’t think there should be an age limit at all. Honestly, a few years ago, I probably wouldn’t have had a good answer either. But recently, I’ve been thinking about this question a lot.
So, over the past week or two, we’ve focused a lot on World Cup soccer. And this World Cup has a lot of big names. Brazil. Argentina. France. Germany. Spain. We all know these countries. But this year, there are also a few names that made people stop and say: Wait… what country is that? Cape Verde? Curaçao? Where are they? Are they in Africa? Europe? The Caribbean? Are they even countries? And honestly, I love this. Because this is one of the best parts of the World Cup. It makes us notice places we usually don’t talk about. Cape Verde has only about half a million people. Curaçao has only about 150,000 people. That is tiny. That is not the population of a football giant. That is smaller than many cities in the world. But somehow, they are now on the same stage as football powerhouses like Spain, Germany, Uruguay, and Ecuador. And suddenly, the whole world is asking: Who are these people? Where are these places? And why are their stories so interesting?
| 21 juin 2026 | 00:16:46 | |
像是: Let it be. Let it be,大概就是顺其自然。 (Self-Compassion) 1. I am only human. 生活例句:“I forgot to send that report. I’m only human.”(我忘了寄那份报告。 2. Give yourself some grace. 生活例句:“You’ve been working nonstop for months. Give yourself some grace.”(你已经连续工作好几个月了,对自己温柔一点,别一直逼自己。) (Focus on the Present) 3. We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. 生活例句:“The company hasn’t even announced layoffs. Let’s cross that bridge when we get there.”(公司甚至还没宣布裁员呢。 4. Don’t borrow trouble. 生活例句:“Your test results won’t be ready until next week. Don’t borrow trouble.”(检查报告下周才出来,现在先别瞎琢磨,别预支焦虑。) 5. Control the controllables. 生活例句:“The market is crashing, but all I can do is control the controllables.”(市场在暴跌,但我能做的只有做好自己的投资策略,尽人事听天命。) Let the dust settle. 生活例句:“The company just announced a major restructuring. Let’s let the dust settle before we panic.”(公司刚宣布重组,先别急着恐慌,等尘埃落定、看清局势再说。) 7. Sleep on it. 生活例句:“You’ve got a big job offer. Sleep on it before making a decision.”(拿到了一个很重要的 Offer。 8. Let the chips fall where they may. 生活例句:“The applications are submitted. Let the chips fall where they may.”(申请都已经提交上去了。 9. Pick your battles. 生活例句:“My daughter insists on wearing mismatched socks. I’m picking my battles.”(女儿坚持要穿颜色不一样的袜子。 10. 英语母语者超爱用的外来语 Que Sera, Sera (西班牙语) ️Whatever will be, will be.(该发生的总会发生。接受未来不可控的无常) C’est la vie (法语) ️That’s life.(这就是生活。

Soccer? | 14 juin 2026 | 00:27:23 | |
什么是 injury time? The goal is ruled out for offside."(这球因越位被判无效。) 2. 主播常用语: "VAR is checking the goal."(VAR 正在检查这个进球。) "The decision is overturned."(经过 VAR 审查,原本的判决被推翻。) 3. Injury Time / Stoppage Time It’s not over until the final whistle."(不到最后哨音,比赛都还没有结束。) 衍生词:Stoppage-time winner(补时阶段的致胜绝杀球)。 ️ Part 4:看球赛必备常用术语 (精选 15 词) 比分与战况 Own goal 乌龙球(把球踢进自家球门) Equalizer 追平球 Winner 致胜球 Hat trick 帽子戏法(单场比赛个人进 3 球) Clean sheet 零封、没失球(例:They kept a clean sheet.) Underdog 弱队、不被看好的一方 Upset 爆冷门(例:Japan pulled off an upset.) (球队会变成Down to ten men剩十人应战) Penalty kick 点球 / 十二码罚球(禁区内犯规获得的单挑机会) The Beautiful Game(美丽的运动)—— 这就是足球。
| 10 juin 2026 | 00:15:51 | |
Today, I want to talk about what will probably be the biggest global event of this summer: The 2026 FIFA World Cup. Now, before you click away because you’re not a soccer fan, hear me out. Because honestly, I’m not exactly a hardcore soccer fan either. Growing up in Asia, soccer wasn’t really the sport everyone talked about. Then I went to the United States, where “football” usually means a completely different sport. And now I’m living in Australia, where people are obsessed with rugby, cricket, and AFL. So I’ve never really lived in a place where soccer was the undisputed king. But every four years, even people like me get pulled into the World Cup. And I think that’s what’s so fascinating. Because somehow, a sport that many of us barely follow suddenly becomes the center of the world’s attention. People who haven’t watched a single soccer match in four years suddenly become fanatics. Friends start talking about group-stage predictions. Families gather around televisions. Social media explodes. Entire countries seem to stop functioning for a few weeks. And somehow, billions of people start caring about the exact same thing. So today, I want to answer a simple question: Why should you care about the 2026 World Cup—even if you’re not a soccer fan? What makes this World Cup different? How did the World Cup become the biggest sporting event on Earth? Why is this year’s tournament likely to be so exciting? And if you’re a complete beginner, what should you actually pay attention to? Let’s get into it.
| 07 juin 2026 | 00:14:28 | |
Today, I want to talk about a word that has suddenly become incredibly popular online. Odyssey. Not just because Christopher Nolan’s upcoming movieThe Odysseyis one of the most anticipated films in the world right now, featuring an all-star cast and based on one of the most famous stories ever told. But because recently, on Chinese social media platforms like Xiaohongshu and Weibo, people have been talking nonstop about entering their “Odyssey Era.” You see posts like: “I think I’m in my Odyssey Era.” “My twenties are one long Odyssey.” “After quitting my job, I entered my Odyssey Period.” At first, I thought it was just another internet buzzword. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized something. Maybe a lot of us really are living through our own Odyssey. And honestly? I think I am too. A year and a half ago, my life looked very different. I was still working in the education industry in China. My wife and I had a familiar routine. We had help at home. We had a support system. We had friends nearby. Life wasn’t necessarily easy, but it was predictable. Then we moved to Australia. Suddenly, everything changed. The education industry that I had spent years building a career in started facing headwinds. I was living in a new country. The kids needed to adjust to a new school system. Instead of having someone help with housework, I found myself cooking, cleaning, doing school pickups, washing dishes, folding laundry, and figuring out how Australian life works. At the same time, I was trying to reinvent myself professionally. Launching this podcast. Exploring new ideas. Thinking about new opportunities. Trying to figure out what the next chapter of my career might look like. Some days I feel excited. Some days I feel overwhelmed. And some days, I honestly have no idea what the future is supposed to look like. And that’s exactly why this idea of an Odyssey Era resonates with me. Because I suspect many of you feel the same way. Not completely lost. But not completely certain either. Somewhere in between. And that’s where today’s story begins.
| 31 mai 2026 | 00:15:13 | |
So today, I want to talk about something that I honestly think is one of the BIGGEST reasons a lot of Asians never become truly comfortable speaking English. And no, I don’t think it’s vocabulary. I don’t think it’s grammar either. I think it’s embarrassment. Or more specifically: the fear of embarrassment. The fear of sounding stupid. The fear of making mistakes. The fear of people laughing at you. The fear of awkward silence. And honestly… I get it. Because growing up in Asia, a lot of us were taught that mistakes are bad. Especially public mistakes. And when that mindset gets attached to language learning, English slowly becomes less like communication… and more like performance. Like every sentence is a test. And I think THAT is what traps a lot of people.
So… a few weeks ago here in Sydney, my daughters were invited to one of their classmates’ birthday parties. And like every kid’s party, the kids were running around screaming, eating snacks, getting sugar highs… while the parents were all standing around awkwardly making small talk. And at some point, the conversation shifted to what the kids usually do on the weekends. And that was when I suddenly realized… wow. The difference between Asian parenting and Western parenting is way bigger than I thought. Because when I talked to a lot of Asian parents, the answers were usually things like: “Oh, my son has math tutoring on Saturday.” “My daughter does piano lessons and violin because she’s preparing for exams.” “We’re thinking about adding coding classes.” “My kid has swimming and tennis because maybe it’ll help with scholarships later.” And honestly… having grown up in Asia, none of this sounded strange to me. That was normal. That was childhood. But then I started talking to some local Australian parents. And the vibe was completely different. “Oh, we just went camping.” “My kids spent the whole weekend riding bikes with friends.” “We usually go to the park.” “My son plays rugby with his friends every Sunday.” “We try not to overschedule them.” And I remember standing there thinking… wait. These parents are raising kids with a completely different philosophy of childhood. And I remember standing there thinking… wait. These parents are raising kids with a completely different philosophy of childhood. And that really made me think. Because this episode is not about saying Asian parenting is bad and Western parenting is good. I actually think Asian parenting has a lot of merits. A lot of Asian kids grow up disciplined, hardworking, academically strong, and incredibly resilient. A lot of immigrant success stories come from sacrifice, structure, and discipline. But after moving to Australia, I started realizing that different cultures are not just raising children differently. They are raising different kinds of adults. And today, I want to talk about that. Why do Australian kids go to bed at 7:30 PM while many Asian kids stay up until 10 or 11? Why are Western parents so obsessed with team sports? Why do Asian parents often prioritize tutoring while Western parents prioritize independence? Why does one culture focus on achievement while another focuses more on emotional well-being? And what does all this reveal about culture, society, and the different ways we define a “successful childhood”? Because honestly… living in Australia has made me question a lot of assumptions I never questioned before.
像是:“We should grab coffee sometime.”“Yeah, let’s do it.”“That sounds amazing.” 本期的知识卡片我们整理在下面啦: 核心文化思维 (Core Mindset) Boundaries (界线感): 拒绝一件事,不代表拒绝这个人("No" doesn't automatically mean "I don't like you")。 A clear no is kinder than a fake yes:

| 17 mai 2026 | 00:12:07 | |
With the latest hantavirus outbreak, should we be worried? Is this another COVID situation? Today, we’re doing something a little different. Usually on this show, we talk about language, culture, American life, business trends, or social phenomena. But recently, there’s been one piece of global news that suddenly started appearing everywhere online, across news apps, TikTok, YouTube, and even group chats. And that is: the hantavirus outbreak connected to a cruise ship called the MV Hondius. Over the past few days, a lot of people have started asking questions like: “Is this another COVID situation?” “Can hantavirus spread between humans?” “Why are countries suddenly quarantining cruise ship passengers again?” “Should we actually be worried?” So today, I want to slow things down a little and explain: What hantavirus actually is. Why this outbreak has attracted so much international attention. What happened on this cruise ship. Why health organizations like the WHO are taking it seriously — but also telling people not to panic. You got this / Good luck 面对困难中:Hang in there 鼓励继续:Keep going 表达支持:I'm rooting for you 它是:encouragement + support + solidarity + morale boost 的混合体。
Today, I want to talk about something that almost every non-native English speaker has experienced… but very few people have actually taken the time to understand. And that is — why do we translate in our heads when we speak English? You know that moment. You’re in a conversation, maybe at work, maybe with a friend, and in your mind, everything is clear. You know exactly what you want to say. The idea is fully formed. But the moment you try to speak it in English, something slows down. There’s a pause. A hesitation. Sometimes even a complete blank. And what’s frustrating is—you know you’re not lacking ideas. You’re not confused. You’re not unprepared. But somehow, the words just don’t come out.

| 15 avr. 2026 | 00:11:36 | |
I feel like today’s opening is a little… different. Because this is actually an episode I’ve been hesitating to make. Not because it’s not important — but because I felt like I already talked about this topic before. If you’ve been listening for a while, you might remember in EP22 and EP96, I talked about Abraham… and how his two sons shaped the foundations of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, and the constant conflicts in the Middle East. But those episodes were in Chinese. And recently, with everything happening between the U.S., Israel, and Iran, I realized something: Understanding something in Chinese… is one thing. Explaining it clearly in English… is a completely different level. So today, I want to revisit this topic — but this time, entirely in English. And we’re going to do this in three layers: First, what’s happening right now Then, why the Strait of Hormuz matters And finally, zoom all the way out — to understand why this conflict feels like it never ends You ready? Let’s sit down and chat in Blend Inn. Shall we?
Adidas 常见误读:a-DI-das 或 ah-DEE-das 发音:uh-DEE-das 小知识:源自创办人名字 Adi Dassler,所谓的“All Day I Dream About Soccer”其实是后人编的(Backronym)。 2.

| 01 avr. 2026 | 00:07:54 | |
Do you know what’s coming this Sunday? I know this weekend is also Qingming Festival in China, and most of you probably already know the story behind it. But today, I want to talk about something different — a holiday that is celebrated all over the world, but one that many of you may not understand. Recently, when I go to supermarkets here in Sydney, I’ve been seeing chocolate eggs, bunnies, pastel-colored candies everywhere. And everything had one word on it: Easter. And I had this thought. We celebrate Easter every year, but a lot of people don’t really know— what are we actually celebrating? Why does a religious holiday end up with rabbits, eggs, and chocolate? So in today’s episode, I want to walk you through Easter. Not in a preachy way, but as a story. A story shaped by history, culture, and human behavior.
很多西方职场的人,其实不会直接说: “I disagree” “This is a bad idea” “No” 因为他们觉得这样太直接了,比较没有礼貌和职场礼仪,所以他们会: soften the message avoid confrontation maintain professionalism 所以今天这一集,就让我们来拆解: What people say vs. what they REALLY mean 1 A: I think we should double the budget for this campaign. B: Hmm… that’s interesting. 2 A: What do you think of this idea? B: Yeah… it’s interesting. ② “I see what you mean.” 1 A: We should delay the launch by two months. B: I see what you mean, but timing is critical. 2 A: This feature isn’t necessary. B: I see what you mean. ③ “That’s one way to look at it.” 1 A: Let’s just copy what competitors are doing. B: That’s one way to look at it. 2 A: This isn’t really a big problem. B: That’s one way to look at it. No ① “Let’s circle back.” 1 A: Can we finalize this today? B: Let’s circle back next week. 2 A: What about this idea? B: Let’s circle back on that. ② “We’ll think about it.” 1 A: Can we increase the team size? B: We’ll think about it. 2 A: Do you like this proposal? B: Yeah, we’ll think about it. ③ “Now’s not the best time.” 1 A: Can we launch this next month? B: I don’t think now’s the best time. 2 A: Can we talk about a promotion? B: Maybe not the best time right now. 1 A: Can you confirm by today? B: Let me get back to you. 2 A: Did you review the document? B: I’ll get back to you on that. ② “I’ll take a look.” 1 A: Can you review this deck? B: Yeah, I’ll take a look. 2 A: There’s an issue with the report. B: I’ll take a look. ③ “It’s on our radar.” 1 A: Are we going to fix this bug? | 25 mars 2026 | 00:14:07
It was a functional drink, not a lifestyle product. Why doesn’t this exist in Europe? If this works in Asia, could it be reinvented for the West? This wasn’t just import. It was cultural translation. Red Bull gives you wings. Red Bull doesn’t market ingredients. It markets intensity. They share a common origin, but they evolved into different cultural identities.
| 22 mars 2026 | 00:11:51 | |
Let me start today with a very simple question. What was the first English word you ever memorized? If you grew up in China, or honestly in a lot of Asian education systems, there’s a very high chance your answer is… abandon. You open your vocabulary book, first page, first word… abandon. And you tell yourself, “Okay, this time I’m serious. I’m going to learn English properly.” And then… maybe three days later… you abandon the entire book. I’ve done that. More than once. And what’s funny is that almost everyone I know has had the exact same experience. There’s even a joke that goes: “Abandon is the first word I learned… and also the reason I stopped learning English.” But here’s the interesting thing. Most people recognize this word. But very few people actually know how to use it naturally. So today, I want to slow this down and really unpack it. Not just what it means, but how it feels, when you use it, when you don’t use it, and how it’s actually used in real life.
| 18 mars 2026 | 00:11:48 | |
Today’s episode started because of a TikTok video that made me laugh out loud. There’s a creator who makes these short clips about how English pronunciation makes absolutely no sense. And the way he demonstrates it is genius. He starts with the word: ear Simple, right? Then he says: Okay… if ear is pronounced /ɪr/… Then the word “bear” should just be b + ear. So it should sound like beer, right? But it doesn’t. It’s bear. Okay fine. Maybe bear is the rule. Then he adds a “d” to the word “bear”. Should be pretty easy right? But if you pronounce “b-e-a-r-d” using the bear sound, it becomes baird. But it’s actually beard. Wrong again. Then he replaces the “b” with “f”. Now we get “f-e-a-r”. But if we follow the bear pronunciation, it would sound like fair. But it’s actually “fear.” And the more examples he gives, the more you realize something slightly disturbing. English spelling is not just inconsistent. It’s unreliable. At some point, you stop asking: “Why is this word pronounced this way?” And you start asking: “Is there even a system at all?” So today I want to answer two questions. First: Why is English pronunciation so chaotic? And second — the more important one: Is there any practical system learners can rely on? Because believe it or not — there actually is. But it’s not the kind of system most people expect.
| 15 mars 2026 | 00:12:16 | |
Patrick's Day,或者简称St. Patty's! Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day. Years later, he returned to Ireland as a Christian missionary. According to legend, Patrick used a shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity. The shamrock is a symbol of Ireland and is widely used on St. Patrick’s Day. Patrick used the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. March 17th was declared a feast day to honor Saint Patrick. Many Irish immigrants celebrated their heritage through parades and festivals. The Irish diaspora helped spread Irish culture around the world. Irish immigrant communities in Boston and Chicago helped popularize the holiday.
