The series is about Ahsoka Tano, the former Jedi knight investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy. Building off her popularity in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), seeks to quell a threat that is attempting to revive the Empire. Featuring a majority female-led cast, the series centers around three women with a shared history of standing up against repression and fighting for what is right, even when the odds are stacked against them. The team comes face to face with new conflicts as society struggles to reform. The women are prompted to consider their places in a post-war environment and what it means to work together as a team… along with awesome lightsaber battles, of course.

In this week's episode of the Black Girl Nerds podcast, we welcome actors Birgundi Baker and Hannaha Hall of Showtime's The Chi.



The Chi follows life in a neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago where daily danger, and the smallest and simplest of decisions can have life or death consequences for the residents.



Birgundi Baker hails from Raleigh, North Carolina. She graduated from Howard University’s musical theater program and shortly after moved to Chicago to pursue her career in acting. Previously, she was seen in hit series such as Fox’s Empire, ABC’s Station 19, the CW DC series Black Lightning, and NBC’s Chicago Med and Chicago PD.



Hannaha Hall is best known for her roles in the TV shows, The Chi (2018) and Chicago Med (2015). After completing college, she moved to New York City to study acting at The Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute.

Hyman/Robyn Hood to work alongside her and lead producer/ lyricist East-O.

Antonio Fargas is a legend in the film, television and theater industry. He is a remarkable talent who has portrayed a wide and vast array of characters throughout his long and storied career. His unforgettable characters “Huggy Bear” in Starsky & Hutch, “Bunky” in Shaft, “Link Brown” in Foxy Brown and “Lindy” in Carwash, clearly established Fargas as a bona fide icon.

Williamson Distinguished Professor of Southern Studies at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and the incoming director of the Center for the Study of the American South, the first Black woman to serve in that role in the center’s thirty-year history. In this week's episode of the Black Girl Nerds podcast we drop a bonus episode to feature the animation team behind the upcoming film Elemental from Disney and Pixar Studios. Featured in the interviews are director Peter Sohn, producer Denise Ream as well as directing animators Gwendolyn Enderoğlu and Allison Rutland.



Director Peter Sohn joined Pixar Animation Studios in September 2000

and has worked on Academy Award®-winning feature films including Finding Nemo, The Incredibles and “WALL•E.” Sohn made his directorial debut on the Pixar short "Partly Cloudy", before going on to direct his first feature The Good Dinosaur. He was also an executive producer on Luca, which debuted on Disney+ in June 2021.



Denise Ream joined Pixar Animation Studios in October 2006 as the associate producer on the Academy Award®-winning feature film Up. Ream continued on to produce 2011’s Cars 2, working alongside director John Lasseter, and

Pixar’s original November 2015 feature film, The Good Dinosaur, with director Peter

Sohn. Currently, Ream is serving as the producer on Disney and Pixar’s upcoming feature Elemental, again alongside Director Peter Sohn.



Gwendolyn  Enderoğlu joined Pixar Animation Studios in July 2013. She has worked as an animator and character development artist on Inside Out, The Good Dinosaur, Coco, Onward and Luca. As a directing animator, Enderoğlu helps oversee the animation team. Along with the two other directing animators, Enderoğlu’s role was to test and help develop the show’s unique character rigs and animation style, as well as give notes, feedback and advice to the animators to help them execute the director’s vision and elevate each shot in the film.



Allison Rutland joined Pixar Animation Studios in April 2009. She worked as an animator on several Academy Award-winning feature films including

Toy Story 3, Brave, Inside Out, and Coco. Rutland also served as the Directing

Animator on Onward.



Disney and Pixar’s Elemental is an all-new, original feature film set in Element City,

where fire, water, earth and air residents live together. The story introduces Ember, a tough, quick-witted and fiery young woman, whose friendship with a fun, sappy, go-with-the-flow guy named Wade challenges her beliefs about the world they live in and the person she wants to be.



Elemental premieres in theaters nationwide June 16th.

Performing in iconic music videos for Kanye West, Eminem, Petey Pablo and the legendary Tupac, to popular sitcoms such as Martin, Smart Guy, and The Last OG. Her passion for entertainment was also met by her love for cars, landing a position as the monthly automotive columnist for Black Men Magazine conducting celebrity interviews from behind the wheel.

The 2023 Festival is January 19–29, 2023, in person in Park City, Salt Lake City, and the Sundance Resort, along with a selection of films available online across the country January 24–29.

Segment 1: D. Smith is the director of 'Kokomo City', a film about  four Black transgender sex workers explore the dichotomy between the Black community and themselves while confronting issues long avoided.

Segment 2: Milisuthando Bongela is the director of 'Milisuthando'. This penetrating coming-of-age personal essay on love and what it means to become human in the context of race explores the memories and experiences of Milisuthando Bongela, who grew up within apartheid without knowing it was happening until it was over.

Segment 3: Travina Springer stars in 'To Live and Die and Live' a story of a man who returns home to Detroit to bury his stepfather and is thrust into settling his accounts, but Muhammad’s struggles with depression and addiction may finish him before he finishes the task.

333: 'Saint Omer' Star Guslagie Malanga16 Jan 202300:21:15

In this week's episode of the Black Girl Nerds podcast, we interview Guslagie Malanga who stars in the French film Saint Omer directed by Alice Diop.  The film premiered at the Venice and Toronto International Film Festivals and was entered for Best International Film for the 2023 Oscars.



In Saint Omer, Rama is a novelist who attends the trial of Laurence Coly (Guslagie Malanga), a young woman accused of killing her 15-month-old daughter. Testimonies from witnesses and Coly's own words soon shake Rama's convictions.

In this week's episode of the Black Girl Nerds podcast, we welcome filmmaker Zamo Mkhwanazi. Making her feature debut, her movie Laundry will premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival under the Discovery selection.



Filmmaker Zamo Mkhwanazi’s quietly powerful debut Laundry crafts an intimate portrait of a Black family navigating the uneasy privileges and hidden costs of exemption within the violently unequal system of apartheid South Africa. The film is set in 1968, the same year that negative international opinion against apartheid fomented during the Summer Olympics but 26 years before the end of the institution.
