Spirited Away (2001) - Nostalgia Check

Season 3 · Episode 14

samedi 18 avril 2026Duration 01:01:49

SEND US SOME FAN MAIL

In this episode of Nostalgia Check, we finally watch Spirited Away (2001) for the very first time and yeah, we were not prepared for this.

Directed by Hayao Miyazaki and brought to life by Studio Ghibli, this legendary film has been called one of the greatest animated movies ever made so we had to see if it lived up to the hype.

We go in completely fresh and break down:
 • Our raw first reactions (confusion included)
 • The wildest moments that caught us off guard
 • Characters like No-Face and Yubaba - what is going on??
 • Plot breakdown from a first-time viewer perspective
 • IMDb and Letterboxd reviews
 • Does it deserve the “masterpiece” label?

This isn’t a polished expert analysis this is what it’s like watching Spirited Away with zero context in 2026.

If you’ve seen it, relive that first-watch feeling with us. If you haven’t, maybe watch first. Or don’t. Honestly, we didn’t.

We wrap up with our final scores and what’s coming next on the wheel.

Always With Me (,いつも何度でも - Itsumo Nando Demo)』
Sootballs (ボイラー虫 - Boiler Mushi)
One Summer's Day (あの夏へ - Ano Natsu e)
Spirited Away (Original Soundtrack)

Wonder Man Might Be What Marvel Needed... | Review + Wheel Spin

Season 3 · Episode 5

samedi 14 février 2026Duration 55:21

SEND US SOME FAN MAIL

In this episode of BJ in the Morning, we dive headfirst into Marvel’s newest Disney+ series, Wonder Man.

Is this the sleeper hit of the MCU? A bold new direction? Or another “we’ll fix it in post” superhero experiment?

We break down everything:

  • First impressions of Wonder Man
  • The cast and performances
  • How it connects (or doesn’t) to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe
  • What worked, what didn’t, and what had us side-eyeing the screen
  • Is Marvel finally back… or still searching for its next Endgame moment?

As always, we bring the sarcasm, the friendly roasts, and the brutally honest takes you expect from two guys who probably should’ve seen everything by now.

And then… we let fate decide.

At the end of the episode, we spin the wheel to determine the next year we’ll revisit in movies, continuing our deep dive into films from the last 30+ years that we either missed completely or haven’t revisited in decades. What year will destiny (and mild chaos) pick for us next? 1998? 2007? 2014? You’ll have to watch to find out.

If you love Marvel breakdowns, movie nostalgia, comedic film reviews, and two long-time friends arguing about pop culture like it’s a competitive sport you’re in the right place.

Subscribe and join us as we build the ultimate movie time capsule… one year at a time.

A Few Good Men (1992) - Nostalgia Check

Season 3 · Episode 4

samedi 7 février 2026Duration 43:38

SEND US SOME FAN MAIL

We’re closing out 1992 the only way that makes sense… by finally watching A Few Good Men.

In this episode of Nostalgia Check presented by BJ in the Morning, we admit our sins: somehow, someway, this iconic courtroom drama completely slipped past us. So we fixed that. And yes, you can’t handle the truth was said. A lot.

We break down why we hadn’t seen A Few Good Men before, then dive into the movie’s all-star cast and production crew, including Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, Demi Moore, Rob Reiner, and Aaron Sorkin’s razor-sharp script. We cover box office numbers, how the film performed on release, and where it now lands with critics and audiences using IMDb and Letterboxd reviews.

From there, we walk through the plot, unpack our favorite moments, debate what still works (and what feels VERY 1992), and quote the absolute hell out of it. Courtroom monologues, iconic lines, and scenes that somehow live in pop culture even if you’ve never seen the movie — until now.

If you love movie rewatches, first-time reactions, 90s films, or yelling movie quotes at your friends, this episode is for you.

Nostalgia Check - Checking our film history, so you won't.
