Heavy hearts throughout this podcast but we try and keep spirits high. Eric was in disguise, Maj was on fire (or at least her background was), Dale lists top teams who have exited tournaments 'early' and everyone disagrees (as always) with Cheryl and VAR. History: Amanda Paterson, Matildas Cap 81 Paterson played five matches (2 A internationals) for the Matildas between 1994 and 1997. Former Matildas Team Manager, B90 co-founder and expert friend of the pod Sarah Groube had this to stay about Paterson: "Paddo! What a legend. Tough era for a goal keeper. Outstanding junior and youth player. Up against the might of Tracey Wheeler to try to earn a cap. Other notable keepers of that era were Claire Nichols and Sara King. Paddo was probably one of the first Australian players to try her fortunes in the US College system, playing for the University of Hawaii and worked her way up to an Assistant Athletic Director role. Without the benefit of great internet and ease of video communications and a decent national team budget, it was difficult for overseas based players to become regulars in the national team. She was a terrific player for NSW and Marconi (I went to Italy with her on a Marconi tour - so many awesome players (not me haha). "She was a good field player too, and would sometimes chance her luck on ‘keeper runs up the field with ball at feet. In a time where everyone wore black Copa Mundials, Paddo was one of the first to sport blue boots in Australia - purchased while on Marconi’s tour of Italy in ‘97. She would be an absolute rockstar of the game today." Hot TopicsNews MatildasAsian Cup

She was the first indigenous footballer to represent Australia at a World Cup (1999) and at the Olympic Games (2000). Starr is also a member of the Aboriginal and Islander Sports Hall of Fame. Former Matildas Team Manager, B90 co-founder and expert friend of the pod Sarah Groube had this to stay about Starr: "Legend! Bridgette was one of the many strong left footers of that era, playing mainly in the backline and strongly pushing up the field. As a Novocastrian she had a strong playing relationship with Cheryl Salisbury. Bridgette went on to play AFL where she was outstanding with ACT and was selected to a number of all-star teams. She’s now an extraordinarily fit cross-fitter. Her Mum Wendy was one of the many brilliant Matilda mums who set a strong legacy of parental support which continues today, travelling to tournaments where she could."
