https://linktr.ee/betweenthemountains

Cast your mind back to when you were 19/20/21 years old; what were you doing? For me, I was crawling my way through an undergraduate degree on a diet of alcohol! For this episode's guest, Adriana Brownlee, she had already climbed Elbrus, Killimanjaro, Aconcagua, completed the Welsh 3000's - not to mention the National Three Peaks at age 9!

Now, Adri has grown her goal to being the youngest person to complete all 14 8000 metre peaks. With Everest, Manaslu, and Dhaulagiri already in the bag, we talk through her already huge experience and her down-to-Earth mindset talking all things mountains (+ the normal waffle from me). I hope you enjoy!

Follow Adri as she completes all 8000 metre peaks:

Ep.30 - Backcountry Camping At Spirit Island

Season 1 · Episode 30

samedi 30 mai 2020Duration 21:47

Backcountry camping is something that entices so many of us. In this episode, hear how Chloë Chapdelaine went out on her first backcountry camping trip.

Travelling to Jasper National Park, Chloë describes spontaneous trips, beautiful visuals, and a stunning trip overall.

If you missed Chloë's interview, read more and listen here.

A Quick Trip Packing A Punch

The trip to Spirit Island had already been postponed for Chloë beforehand. Travelling five hours out to location, she was called in to work last minute.

Determined to get out and do this, Chloë simply rescheduled.

Her friend Oscar had been keeping an eagle eye on the camp spots. They can get booked up quickly, and the moment one became available they jumped at the opportunity!

Spirit Island

It sounds like an incredible trip. Hear in this episode how Chloë and Oscar faced strong headwinds, canoeing across a lake, and heading out for golden hour early in the morning and catch sunrise.

Chloë Chapdelaine

A fantastic place to start with Chloë, other than her Instagram page, is with her blog which you can checkout here. She has wonderful insights and fantastic journeys. You can also check out her composing page we discussed by clicking here

If you’re going to start anywhere, you have to read this humorous blog Chloë did on over-hearing people’s odd conversation on holiday.

You should also check out her shop. There’s some beauty products… but also some beloved adventure products for yourselves! Check it out here and bag yourself a bargain.

Ep.29 - Chloë Chapdelaine Talks Writing, Alberta & More

Season 1 · Episode 29

mercredi 27 mai 2020Duration 39:01

Chloë is a model, writer and content creator, journalist, photographer and adventurer from Calgary. Her career so far sees her modelling across North America, putting her thoughts down to paper, and getting out into adventures from Canada to Mexico to Europe.

Chloë has no problem finding beautiful spots to shoot at wherever she goes, and more often than not you can find them on her Instagram accompanied by a quick-wit pun followed by a level-headed discussion or opening up a little.

Listen on SpotifyApple PodcastsGoogle Podcasts, and all other platforms; just search “Between The Mountains” or Ask Alexa! (“Alexa, play Between The Mountains Travel Podcast!”).

Keeping It Light-Hearted

Starting the podcast off, we talk about the all important captions. One reason among many to follow Chloë on her Instagram is for the witty puns that caption her stunning photography.

But moving to recent shifts, I also ask her about the transition between Instagram and Tik-Tok. For all of you wanting to expand your personal brand, or just stay on top of social media, you are going to want to hear her input!

The Importance Of Journaling

It’s almost like making the thought physical. I ask Chloë this question early on. She is a brilliant writer, but also journals for her own headspace. By writing, as described by Chloë, it is a way of taking that thought or weight in your mind, and removing it to paper.

It works in both ways. You can be experiencing something truly beautiful, and by journaling it the moment becomes timeless. It can re-spark those memories and feelings you had.

“Something about that process is super-therapeutic to me”

In return, it also helps the darker times. Chloë talks about how negative times and thoughts can be removed by simply transferring them to paper.

The Influence Of Alberta

In just a 45 minute drive, Chloë can be surrounded in some of the most beautiful setting this world has to offer. Hear how the Alberta mountains influence her writing. Chloë makes such fantastic use of her time. Knowing that in low or reflective moments she can spend 2 hours scrolling social media, she will often instead get in her car and drive to the mountains.

Sounds like heaven to me.

But she knows what it like to live without it. Chloë didn’t always live so close, and so that drive to experience the mountains and alpine lakes is so fresh in her mind every day, knowing how fortunate she is to live where she does!

“The World’s not all bad, but you need to recognise it’s you who can let the light in”

Chloë Chapdelaine

Ep.28 - Roadtrip In Tasmania

Season 1 · Episode 28

samedi 23 mai 2020Duration 44:13

The beautiful night sky, the people, and the landscape are just some of the major reasons to visit Tasmania. We touched upon it in our Australia Van Life episode. In this show we welcome Martina

In true classic way, Martina saw Tasmania on a map and decided to go and visit. Finding new people to travel with, she embarked on an epic roadtrip!

We kick off the episode chatting about hiking, and it quickly becomes clear that this place is fantastic for laid back hill-walking, and strenuous but rewarding views.

But Martina also dives into the backcountry aspect. Discussing some of the best spots, she also sees the beautiful clear sky and the milky way!

Hear how Martina moves through her fantastic itinerary, providing her best tips along the way!

Ep.27 - Solo Trekking To Everest Base Camp

Season 1 · Episode 27

mercredi 20 mai 2020Duration 01:05:16

21 beautiful days. That’s how long it took for Kate from Bags Always Packed to get to Everest Base Camp and back. What was incredible was how she did it. On a budget, last-minute, and solo.

Listen on SpotifyApple PodcastsGoogle Podcasts, and all other platforms; just search “Between The Mountains” or Ask Alexa!

Trekking To Everest Base Camp

Before we start, feel free to click here to access Kate’s blog on solo trekking to Everest Base Camp. It includes everything you need to know, so I highly recommend having a browse of that and more on her website.

What was fantastic about her trip, was the side-trip she took towards the end, and her finale. I’ll let you listen on, but it sounds just so stunning, and a perfect way to end her time there.

After seeing the cheapest tour priced at around $3000, she figured this was definitely outside of a backpacker’s budget.

So, her thoughts were that as she was exploring India and Nepal before this, she would meet a few others who wanted to take the pilgrimage. However, getting closer to the time frame there was still no-one headed that way. So, off Kate went by herself.

And what a brilliant decision that was.

I’ve spoken before how solo-travel is so important in regards to self-development and headspace. For Kate, she was already a strong and independent person, so heading out was no problem. You can hear this in how she tackled her trip to Tonga

The challenge didn’t seem overly ridiculous to her, and was on her bucket list. So, confronting where to stay, budget, altitude and the dodgy-yet-probably-fine flights to the start point, Kate cracked on and managed to complete the journey.

Hear in this podcast how she did it, the route she took and the people she eventually met. Finally, hear about her majestic end to a wonderful three weeks.

Ep.26 - TJ David Talks Endurance, Mountains & More

Season 1 · Episode 26

lundi 18 mai 2020Duration 01:28:58

TJ David is a professional skier and endurance athlete residing in Colorado. His experience has seen him mountaineering skiing in Chamonix, kayaking in Colorado and competing in several endurance challenges such as North Face Endurance Challenge and the Indian creek fifties.

Listen on SpotifyApple PodcastsGoogle Podcasts, and all other platforms; just search “Between The Mountains” or Ask Alexa!

His skill and name has been slapped onto billboards, commercials and every major publication in the industry and he even finds time still to run his own company and maintain his clients. He has an incredibly humble and experienced view on things, and it’s my pleasure to have him on the show.

An Evolution From Childhood To Profession

TJ started skiing at a young age - 3 or 4 years old - in New Jersey. From that moment he has gone on to ski his whole life. Exposing himself to tough conditions as he grew older, his skill base grew from more local slopes, to now all over the world.

After going to college on the East Coast, TJ took a trip and went to Utah. It was here, that he got his first sponsorship and work opportunities. From here, everything grew. Now, he ski's full time, is an endurance trail runner, and runs his own coaching business

"Spending time outside... there are really strong links to an overall heightened state of being. The endorphins you get from being outside - the time spent out there - is really important for your mental health"

Balancing Capturing The Content And Living The Moment

For long term followers of TJ, you'll know that this used to be a big thing for him. But now, his way of living in the moment is more often than not just leaving the camera at home.

More recently, his content is more lifestyle (behind the scenes like cooking and coaching), or beautiful shots taken on his long runs.

Hear further how TJ directs his photographs, but also his thoughts on living in the moment and looking after your headspace.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B7ryXljHzC0/ This caption though...

Drawing Parallels Between Skiing And The Challenges Of Life Itself

In this interview, TJ describes this rather poetic comparison of life to the downhill. How working hard at something and pushing through tough times make it all so worth it in the end because of the hard work and the rewards.

Life is a lot like climbing and reaching the top. From taxes, to starting a company, to grizzing out a side hustle you do not enjoy to make your passions work.

"These struggles are also momentary. They're fleeting just like the good moments, so you try not to grasp on to them so much. Just to be aware that they are happening, and you are capable of moving beyond that".

TJ David - More Than Just Ski Mountaineering

TJ asks his clients a lot about their "WHY"'s. In the interview, I turned the question on to him.

There's is so much to this personal level of reasoning and spirit. But what TJ touches upon - which I think it silently very inspirational - is his love for the daily process of improving a little bit, every single day. Making those small steps that over time produce the big picture goal. Having that long-term goal.

What is your long-term goal?

TJ is an incredible individual, with so much to give. You can check out his coaching here, his Instagram here, and more information on himself here

Ep.25 - Hiking Kjeragbolten With Outdoorlife Norway

Season 1 · Episode 25

samedi 16 mai 2020Duration 38:05

Here is the second part! What a pleasure to have Outdoorlife Norway join me on this.

Personally, I have actually booked this hike with them already and now can't wait even more to do so. Hopefully the conditions will be stunning!

In November 2019 I hiked Preikestolen and it was just simply beautiful. I was planning on doing a podcast, but instead of waffling on I thought "why not invite the company on to chat through it?". That was a brilliant idea and it worked out.

Outdoorlife Norway (https://outdoorlifenorway.com/) were simply incredible in their service and knowledge to me and I highly recommend you check out their website and all the things they offer for your next visit to Norway.

I said this for the first episode, and I truly mean it: it's 10/10 from me. Besides, in November 2019 they picked me up right from the AirBNB and gave me coffee. Can't get much better than that!

The audio is much better in this episode, and I hope you enjoy it. If you do, please follow/subscribe and share with a friend or two.

Ep.24 - Hiking Preikestolen With Outdoorlife Norway

Season 1 · Episode 24

mercredi 13 mai 2020Duration 32:05

Super excited to share this first of a two part show for you!

It's 10/10 from me and I have already booked my next tour with them (the location of which we discuss on Saturday!). Besides, they picked me up right from the AirBNB and gave me coffee. Can't get much better than that!

I apologise for the audio in this first episode too, something was going on with Skype but I did my best to edit it correctly with the help of a good friend.

I hope you enjoy this episode, and I hope you look forward to the next one coming this Saturday!
