64-Jess Higgins Kelley - Hydration: Quenching Your Curiosity on the Impact of Water05 Dec 202300:31:35

Water seems like a simple topic, right?  Not so fast!  There is quite a lot to know about the water we drink and the water we use in our daily lives.

Water is a key component of life.  Every living organism must have water to survive.  Today we jump into the deep end of water with Jess Higgins Kelley, a Master Nutrition Therapist and Oncology Nutrition Consultant.  Jess truly takes a deep dive into water and the importance of hydration for our overall health.

Jess has something for everyone today!  You won't want to miss all the nuggets of information about water including:

  •  water as the master nutrient,
  • hydration for various health conditions,
  • the importance of water quality,
  • electrolytes and why they matter,
  • and so much more!

Note from Jess:
Carbonated vs Non-Carbonated Water and Hydration Status.
There are currently no studies showing both intracellular and extracellular hydration status when comparing carbonated vs non carbonated water. Intracellular hydration is more important to mitochondrial function than external. Because of this, currently it is widely accepted that both are equally hydrating. However, since we practice ancestral nutrition, we know that humans didn’t add carbonation = carbonic acid a weak acid, to water until about 100 years ago. It also REALLY depends on the sparkling water/carbonated water source. In general, plain mineral waters in glass are excellent. Those with any artificial or natural flavors, sugars, etc should be avoided. All that said, many people do not have access to drinking water AT ALL so something is better than nothing!!!!

53-Dr. Lucas Tims - Sugar and Its Role in Feeding Cancer Cells18 Apr 202300:27:31

The western American diet is under fire for the amount of sugar we consume on a daily basis. Overconsumption of sugar creates all sorts of health issues for us and it is a big topic of discussion for everyone these days, especially cancer patients.

In this episode, Dr. Lucas Tims returns for a second time to talk about sugar and the role it plays in cancer.

  • Can consuming sugar increase your risk for cancer?
  • Are there certain types of cancers that are more sensitive to sugar intake?
  • Does sugar affect cancer treatments?
  • Are artificial sweeteners beneficial to someone on a cancer journey?

Dr. Tims answers these questions and talks about how sugar consumption can lead to inflammation in the body. This inflammation can create an environment that is conducive to cancer growth.  He also discusses the importance of maintaining a healthy, balanced diet that is low in sugar and high in nutrients, sharing how he has helped his patients reduce their sugar consumption in their individual health journeys.

You won't want to miss this enlightening episode!

50-Chris Hodel - Healing At The Speed Of Light28 Mar 202300:28:11

In the information age, we are bombarded by traditional methods of healing that often fall short of supporting our needs. To thrive, we must get back to how our bodies heal themselves naturally through a combination of therapies including (but not limited to) light, vibration, PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) therapy, manual therapy, and exercise.

Today’s podcast features Chris Hodel, my friend and an integrative practitioner who uses low-level laser therapy and rolfing to treat various conditions. Chris shares a health tip for stimulating the vagus nerve and calming the nervous system. He also explains that rolfing is a type of bodywork that unblocks the body's fascia, and how he incorporates lasers into his practice to enhance rolfing's objectives.

49-Robin Daly - In Integrative and Complementary Medicine, Where Are The Men?21 Mar 202300:26:12

Men are often "tough" customers when it comes to new options in the world of health and wellness.  That's a trend that was not lost on Robin Daly when he began digging into the world of integrative and complementary medicine for his daughter. It's a trend he wants to change.

Men NEED options for their health as much as women, but they are often left out or overlooked, making it difficult for them to do what's best for themselves.  There is a vulnerability that needs to be exposed for men to help them know their health matters too.

Join me today as Robin and I talk about

  • why men are less likely to seek complementary care options for their health
  • how men can be better engaged to seek integrative therapy options in a diagnosis
  • where men can go to learn more and be empowered to make strong, personal decisions for their health
  • and so much more

46-Tania Atkin - Surviving Multiple Myeloma with Resilience28 Feb 202300:30:02

NED (no evidence of disease), it's what every cancer patient longs to hear.  It's exactly what Tania Atkin has heard after being diagnosed with multiple myeloma in February 2022.

45-Alison Gannett - Surviving a Terminal Brain Cancer Diagnosis21 Feb 202300:34:58

It's been 10 years since Alison Gannett was diagnosed with "terminal" brain cancer and given approximately six months to live.

How has she managed to beat the odds?

Cancer is not a "generalized" disease to be treated like you're on a conveyor belt.  It's an "individualized" condition, and Alison credits cancer for waking her up to the root causes of disease that were plaguing her.  She describes her "check engine" light as being on, yet ignored as she tried to push herself and prove herself in life (something we are all guilty of doing whether we have cancer or not).

This incredible story of self-discovery and positivity may be just what you need to hear today.  Join us on today's podcast as Alison and I talk about the importance of lab testing, knowing and acknowledging your family history, genetic makeup and so much more!
