Adoption, leadership & chasing success in a dopamine-driven world08 sept. 202601:04:40

We're living in a world of cheap dopamine.

It's one of the many insights Chris Forester shared during one of the most honest conversations we've had on Behind the Title.

After nearly 30 years in senior leadership roles across media, Chris made the decision to leave corporate life behind and dedicate his next chapter to improving men's mental fitness through The Wingman Project.

We explored:

- Why success doesn't always equal fulfilment

- The impact of adoption, grief and Hillsborough

- Masculinity in modern society

- Why men struggle to ask for help

- The difference between mental health and mental fitness

- The simple framework Chris believes can help us all live better lives

- A conversation full of vulnerability, wisdom and practical takeaways

In any industry, job titles carry power, perception, and pressure. But behind every title CEO, CMO, CFO is a person navigating private challenges, mental health struggles, and silent turning points that shape who they are and how they lead.

Behind the Title is a candid podcast that pulls back the curtain on these personal stories.

Through honest, structured conversations with leaders at all levels, we explore the inner lives that fuel (and sometimes unravel) outer success.

Why Dyslexic Thinking Creates Better Leaders08 sept. 202600:42:06

Most people associate dyslexia with challenges in reading, writing or spelling. Paul Wright sees something different.

After building a career spanning Sky, Apple, Amazon, Uber and Farfetch, Paul believes the same trait he spent years trying to manage helped shape the way he thinks, leads and builds businesses.

In this episode, Paul shares why dyslexic thinking often creates stronger entrepreneurs, how pattern recognition can become a competitive advantage, and why great leaders learn to embrace different ways of thinking rather than forcing people to conform.

We also explore the moments behind the CV: losing confidence, experiencing poor leadership, going to therapy, and learning that success isn't measured by job titles but by the impact you have on others.

This is a conversation about leadership, neurodiversity, entrepreneurship and discovering that the thing you thought was holding you back may actually be pushing you forward.

In this episode:

• Building a career across Sky, Apple, Amazon, Uber and Farfetch

• The hidden reality of living and working with dyslexia

• Losing confidence and finding perspective through therapy

• Why great leaders adapt to people, not the other way around

• The connection between entrepreneurship and neurodiversity

• Learning, growth and the power of mentoring others

• Why your network matters more than you realise

Smiling Isn't a Lightweight Practice08 sept. 202600:59:32

Lee Bofkin is the co-founder of Global Street Art, Europe's leading hand-painted advertising company. But behind the murals, creativity workshops and infectious optimism lies a fascinating story of neurodiversity, loss, resilience and personal growth.

In this episode, Lee opens up about his autism diagnosis in his 40s, the loss of his co-founder and mentor, Conrad, the lessons he learned from a silent retreat, and why he believes creativity is a skill everyone can develop.

From building an extraordinary archive of inspiration to rebranding tinnitus as his "life alarm", Lee shares a refreshingly different perspective on leadership, happiness and what it really means to thrive.

This conversation is packed with insight, humour, wisdom and more quotable moments than any episode we've recorded.

What Happens When Life Rewrites the Plan08 sept. 202600:43:11

At 30 years old, Neil Tookey thought he was indestructible.

His career was thriving, he was building momentum in the media industry, and life felt firmly on track. Then everything changed with a diagnosis he never saw coming: testicular cancer.

More than a decade later, after building a successful 20-year career across some of the industry's biggest businesses, another unexpected chapter arrived: redundancy.

In this honest and deeply personal conversation, Neil shares the reality of navigating both moments.

The uncertainty of a cancer diagnosis. The hidden emotional impact of redundancy.

The pressure to keep showing up when life feels anything but stable. And ultimately, how he rebuilt his confidence, identity and purpose through family, fitness, entrepreneurship and community.

From agency leader to consultant, gardener and proud dad, Neil's story is a reminder that our biggest setbacks do not have to define us.

Most importantly, he shares an incredibly important message for men: Check your balls. Don't ignore the signs.

We discuss:

• Surviving testicular cancer at 30

• The importance of checking yourself and acting early

• The unseen emotional impact of serious illness

• Why men often struggle to ask for help

• Redundancy, identity and career transitions

• Building a new chapter after unexpected change

• The power of relationships, community and support

• What "Forward Always" means when life doesn't go to plan

From Walworth Road to Walking away from the Boardroom 08 sept. 202600:56:00

John Maloney spent 24 years building a remarkable career in media, rising from a working-class upbringing in Elephant & Castle to some of the industry's most senior leadership roles.

But behind the success was a very different story.

In this candid conversation, John opens up about the anxiety, imposter syndrome and self-doubt he carried throughout much of his career, despite outward success. He shares the moment he hid in a bathroom at a senior industry event because he felt he didn't belong, the pressure of public speaking, and the lessons he's learned from leading teams, building confidence and staying authentic.

We also dive into the incredible story behind Media Fight Night, which has raised more than £2.2 million for grassroots charities, and explore why John made the brave decision to leave a successful 18-year career at WPP to prioritise family, purpose and the next chapter of his life.

This is a powerful conversation about belonging, identity, confidence, success and having the courage to redefine what matters most.

Topics include:

• Growing up in social housing in South London

• Anxiety, imposter syndrome and confidence

• Working-class backgrounds in corporate environments

• Building Media Fight Night

• Raising £2.2 million for charity

• Leadership and authenticity

• Leaving WPP after 18 years

• Family, purpose and reinvention

Sometimes the bravest conversations are the ones we avoid28 mai 202600:40:41

Suicide is now the biggest killer of men under 50 in the UK and it’s rising fastest among young women.

But it is one of the most preventable causes of death, yet it remains one of the hardest things to talk about.

In this episode of Behind the Title, I'm joined by Simon Gunning, CEO of CALM, to explore why the way we talk about suicide prevention matters just as much as whether we talk about it at all.

Simon challenges familiar mental‑health narratives, questions whether “it’s okay not to be okay” goes far enough, and explains why prevention shouldn’t be surrounded by fear, shame or awkwardness. Instead, he makes the case for everyday conversations, small actions, and shared responsibility not as a burden, but as something deeply human.

We also explore the personal cost of carrying difficult conversations, the hidden weight leaders and parents carry, and why avoiding the subject doesn’t keep people safe it keeps them silent.

The bravest conversations are the ones we avoid.

Listener note: This episode discusses suicide prevention. Please take care when listening

Success was loud. Burnout was louder.14 mai 202600:39:09

In this episode of Behind the Title, I sit down with Hannah Blake, Managing Director of Creative & New Media at Daily Mail Group, for a candid conversation about what leadership really costs when no one’s watching.

Hannah opens up about the moments where everything appears fine externally while internally you’re paddling furiously just to keep going.

She shares what it was like running a business that was running out of cash, motivating a team while privately waiting on “one or two emails” that would decide everyone’s future and how “pretending everything is fine” can feel like lying.

She also talks about driving innovation inside big corporates, the burnout that hit just as things were going well, and the identity spiral that followed:

Ultimately, this episode is about ambition with awareness asking what you’re driving towards, and giving yourself permission to pause before your body forces you to.

Plus I love Hannah’s simplest career advice: “Sit at the front.” Show up, be curious, and ask the questions other people are too scared to ask.

The Cost of Staying Silent07 mai 202600:41:43

Please take care when listening.

Jess Gross has had three miscarriages and nobody at work knew about any of them.

Not because she didn't need support but because telling your employer you've had a miscarriage means admitting you were pregnant. Admitting you were pregnant means they now know you're trying for a baby and in too many workplaces, that single piece of information can quietly change how your commitment, your ambition, and your future are perceived.

So Jess grieved in silence, still showed up and held it together.

With over 250,000 miscarriages happen in the UK every year, this is the hidden tax on women in the workplace. We talk about getting more women into leadership, but we cannot build workplaces where women can genuinely thrive if we are still expecting them to perform through experiences they dont feel comfortable sharing. The cost is invisible.

While we debate flexible working policies and parental leave frameworks, one your colleague may be sitting in a Monday morning meeting having miscarried at the weekend saying nothing, because the professional risk of saying something feels too high.

In the latest episode of Behind The Title, Jess, Managing Partner at MSL shares her full story with a courage I have enormous respect for. She talks about grief that had no space to breathe, a workplace culture that expected her to carry on, a leader who never once acknowledged what she was going through and what she now believes leaders must do differently.

Real gender equality doesn't start with a policy document. It starts with a conversation like this one.

If you manage people, this episode is for you. If you've been through this, this episode is for you.

The Guy Who Had It All (And Nearly Lost Himself)30 avr. 202600:48:45

In this episode of Behind the Title, we sit down with Paul Sculfor. A former international male model, TV personality, and founder of the Stride Foundation.

From the outside, Paul’s life looked flawless: global campaigns, red carpets, parties, success. On the inside, he was spiralling, battling addiction, shame, and a growing sense that he was disappearing behind the image.

Paul opens up to us about...

  • How addiction crept in through “normal” industry behaviour
  • The moment he realised he couldn’t stop — no matter how hard he tried
  • Why asking for help felt like failure… until it saved his life
  • Choosing life over fame at a crossroads that changed everything
  • What real freedom, success, and masculinity mean to him now

This is a raw, unfiltered conversation about addiction, identity, leadership pressure, and the power of vulnerability especially for those who feel they have to keep it together for everyone else.

If you’ve ever wondered “Is this sustainable?” this one’s worth your time.

Why “Imposter Syndrome” Might Not Exist at All23 avr. 202600:47:14

In this episode of Behind the Title, I’m joined by Emma Bain, Chief Operating Officer at TLC Worldwide, for a conversation that strips away the polished veneer and gets honest about what senior leadership really feels like.

This is an episode about vulnerability without oversharing. About strength without pretending. And about the quiet pressure so many leaders carry without ever naming.

We talk about:

• Having a phobia of public speaking in a senior role

• Leading through Covid while going through IVF and saying nothing

• Why “imposter syndrome” might not actually be a syndrome at all

• The pressure to look composed while feeling anything but

What stood out most wasn’t the job title, it was the permission to stop labelling normal human feelings as failure.

If you’ve ever thought “Why do I still feel like this?” this conversation might change how you see yourself.

One Truth About Anxiety No One Wants to Admit16 avr. 202600:41:46

⚠️ Trigger warning take care when listening.

In this episode of Behind the Title, I speak with Matt Longley, CEO of Mobsta, about anxiety, leadership and a lived experience rarely discussed openly at senior level.

Matt shares what anxiety really looked like behind his title, from toxic pressure and burnout to late‑onset self‑injury, therapy, and learning that you don’t need to hit rock bottom to ask for help.

This is a raw, honest conversation about leadership, identity, and why struggling doesn’t make you weaker, it makes you human.

The Class Conversation We Keep Avoiding09 avr. 202600:42:03

What does class look like in the creative industries and why are we still not talking about it enough?

In this episode of Behind the Title, we sit down with Lisa Thompson, Strategy & Planning Partner at Wavemaker North and co‑founder of Common People, a movement committed to tackling class inequality across creative and media industries.

Together we explore...

  • Why class is the forgotten diversity metric
  • The reality of the North–South divide (and whether it still exists)
  • How confidence, accents, and “fitting in” shape careers
  • Why being yourself is your biggest advantage — especially in pitching
  • The hidden barriers facing working‑class talent
  • How organisations can design inclusion that actually works

This is a conversation about fairness, voice, and the power of creating space for people to show up as they really are, not who the industry expects them to be.

If you care about better work, better culture, and better leadership, this episode is for you.

When Success Stops Feeling Like Success25 mars 202600:42:11

Nobody talks enough about what happens when your “superpowers” suddenly disappear.

Sometimes the thing that looks like “success” from the outside is costing someone far more than anyone can see.

Ali Reed shares what happened when menopause collided with senior leadership, pressure, family life and the expectation to keep showing up like nothing had changed.

This is a part of working life we still do not talk about enough how often high-performing people are praised for coping, while quietly breaking underneath it all.

Ali thought stepping back meant failure. It saved her.

This is not just a conversation about menopause.

It is a conversation about identity, pressure, leadership, and the things people carry silently at work.

Because Daniele Fiandaca co-founder of Hard as Nails is working at the exact opposite end of that spectrum.

Not by lecturing men. Not by demonising them. But by giving them something the manosphere accidentally understood and weaponised, a space to feel seen.

He told me something I haven't stopped thinking about. By the time your child turns 18, you've already spent 90% of the time you'll ever spend with them. Let that sink in.

If boys are filling that gap with Andrew Tate, it's not because they're broken. It's because someone's filling that gap. Make sure it's you.

Hidden disability and refusing to let it win11 mars 202600:38:29

Lucy Foy, Director of IMedia, joined me to talk about something she rarely speaks about publicly living with Crohn's disease for her adult life while building a career in media.

Lucy has been in pain every single day for over 20 years.

In her words, I don't know what it feels like to wake up and feel amazing. I just don't know what that's like.

You'd never know it.

She's built a career across publishing and out of home, shows up for her team, smiles in every meeting yet needs to injects herself with medication every two weeks just to function.

That's what a hidden disability actually looks like.

The Superpower They Never Asked For04 mars 202600:49:36

5.8 million. That's how many unpaid carers there are in the UK.

8% of the population has a learning or physical disability.

Two pieces of advice from Episode 11 of Behind The Title that I haven't stopped thinking about.

Kitty Day's permission slip: "Go and find people with additional needs in your world. You're not going to say the wrong thing. You'll be fine. Just go."

Natalie Dawson's permission slip: "Ask. Even if you get the words wrong. Even if it's not PC. Say it with love and care because silence is so much harder than an imperfect question."

When people don't ask, carers feel singled out. Invisible. Lonely.

When people do ask that's when community gets built. That's when workplace culture actually changes.

This was the most heartwarming 50 minutes I've recorded yet.

The Pitch That Changed Everything 24 févr. 202600:48:02

Three days after her husband's funeral, Pippa Glucklich got on a plane to Munich to lead a pitch.

She was CEO of of a large media agency. BMW was the biggest pitch of her career. And her world had just exploded.

In the latest Behind The Title episode, Pippa shares something I've never heard a senior leader discuss so openly: what happens when the facade crumbles.

→ The out-of-body experience of leading a pitch while grieving

→ Why she couldn't look in the mirror for months

→ How chasing title, money, and status nearly broke her

→ The moment she realized she couldn't be "that person" anymore

This isn't just a conversation about loss. It's about the impossible standards we hold ourselves to, the things we hide behind professional polish, and what actually matters.

Trigger warning: This episode discusses suicide and addiction candidly.

But if you've ever felt like you're holding everything together on the outside while falling apart inside, Pippa's story might just change something for you.
