Special Guest - R' Mordechai Machlis25 Nov 202101:13:46

R' Machlis is a truly righteous man, a teacher both by profession and by his very life. He hosts 200 people in his home every shabbos and has inspired thousands.

His late wife, Rebbetzin Henny, was a truly singular outstanding woman. She lovingly opened her heavenly heart and home to many many tens of thousands of guests from every imaginable background. In her own unique way, Henny served as a caring mother and dedicated role model to so many of these people.

The Rebbetzin keenly understood the special spiritual significance of hospitality and generosity and - with the help of Hashem - successfully opened new torah gateways and pathways in the cherished areas of chesed and hachnasat orchim. Henny often spoke of the heartfelt appreciation that she felt towards Hashem for allowing her the privilege of living in the holiest of lands and in the holiest of cities. She often remarked that it was the special divine blessing of Yerushalayim which enabled her to actualize so many of her aspirations.

Special Guest - Yosef Mendelevich, Renowned Russian Refusenik12 Aug 202101:20:34

Yosef Mendelevitch (b. 1947 in Riga), was a refusenik from the former Soviet Union, also known as a "Prisoner of Zion" and now a politically unaffiliated rabbi living in Jerusalem who gained fame for his adherence to Judaism and public attempts to emigrate to Israel at a time when it was against the law in the USSR.

Mendelevich was born in Riga and started his Jewish activities in the 1960s. He formed a student group of underground Jewish Education in 1966 and became an editor of an underground newsletter Iton on Jewish issues in 1969. Being repeatably refused the right to immigration, he became one of the leaders of the Dymshits–Kuznetsov hijacking affair, recounted in his 2012 memoir, Unbroken Spirit. As punishment, he was imprisoned for eleven years. During the imprisonment he was punished for keeping Jewish precepts. In 1981, after a worldwide struggle, he was released and immigrated to Israel.

Bonus Episode: Real Recovery Stories: Practical Lessons for Us All08 Feb 202101:01:51

Addiction is not limited to those who are young. Addiction is not limited to drugs, alcohol or gambling. Some eat compulsively, others shop or order online beyond their budget and others cannot stop working or even exercising. We can all benefit from learning more about addiction and compulsive behavior. We cannot and must not brush addiction under the carpet.

We all owe those struggling with addiction or in recovery to build a community of sensitivity, warmth and support. Our community lost a very special young man to this dreaded disease earlier this year. Jonathan W. was bright, artistic, loving, humble and deeply devoted to his family. His amazing parents have chosen to channel their pain into helping the community by sponsoring a critically important new initiative connecting those in recovery with families in our community. Tune in to the program to find out more about the program and how you can get involved.

Featuring:
Moshe A. Yachnes, LCSW (Founder, Onward Living)
Moshe F. (Graduate, Onward Living)
Yudi B. (Graduate, Onward Living)

Onward Living blends together residential addiction treatment with outpatient medical and psychological therapeutic services to create a Unique Hybrid structure.
