Since my passion resides in helping beginning teachers, I ask Keith questions surrounding the five main areas of classroom management, which are crucial when you're starting your own classroom.

269. Ultimate Student Engagement in Your Elementary Classroom: Part Two08 Nov 202300:25:52

When I was a young teacher, I believed two things about student engagement: kids would automatically be interested in what I was teaching and the role was on the kids, not the teacher. Well, I turned out to be wrong! I realized that if I wanted my students to be engaged, I needed to ignite their spark of curiosity for learning.

In last week's episode, I started this series on sharing ideas for creative strategies for ultimate student engagement, and in today's episode, I'm going to continue with more ideas surrounded by one overarching idea: student-led lessons.

247. New Teacher Spotlight Series Part Five: Beth Bowe07 Jun 202300:38:45

The path to your first job as a teacher may not go how you expect it to and that is absolutely okay! Sometimes the unexpected and nontraditional paths lead to an amazing opportunity. That's how my guest today, Beth Bowe, ended up in her position where she is happier than she ever thought she could be.

Beth Bowe started out subbing and quickly realized that she was meant to be a teacher. She went back and got her alternative certification before interviewing for a fourth grade position that she didn't get. When the resource teacher retired two months into the school year, Beth took over her position and was able to utilize the R.E.A.D.Y. for School Academy resources and information to thrive in her new special education position!

234. The Weeks Leading Up to Testing in Elementary: How to Calm & Prepare Students (& Why This Matters)08 Mar 202300:28:52

This week on the podcast, we're continuing our conversation about how to prepare your students for state standardized testing. In part one of this series, episode 232, we talked about test-taking strategies in language arts. In part two, episode 233, I shared test-taking strategies in math. I recommend going back and listening to those episodes first if you haven't already!

Now it's time to focus specifically on how we can calm, prepare, and inspire your students for assessments in the weeks leading up to testing. I'm sharing five strategies that you can use to do just that.

Does the idea of standardized testing leave you feeling stressed? You're not alone, and that's why this week we are going to be continuing our four-part series on test taking strategies for second to fifth graders.

Last week, inside episode 232, we focused on effective and simple test taking strategies for students in Language Arts. This week I'm sharing five more of these helpful strategies, but this time they are specifically for math tests. Math assessments can bring a whole new set of challenges for students (confusing word problems, I'm looking at you! 👀) but these strategies will give your students the tools they need to perform well.
