BEFORE THE DIAGNOSIS

Because your story started long before the diagnosis.

A diagnosis doesn't arrive alone.

It arrives in the middle of a life already being lived, with relationships, loss, stress, joy, expectations, beliefs, experiences, choices and a body that has been carrying all of it.

But how much of that story do we really hear?

Before the Diagnosis is hosted by Kyna Richardson - a former Emergency Nurse of 17 years, previous cancer patient, and now an embodiment and mind-body coach supporting people living through cancer, chronic illness, stress and burnout.

After experiencing life on both sides as clinician and patient, Kyna became fascinated by a question that sits somewhere between medicine, psychology and the lived experience of illness:

What happens when we stop asking only what is wrong with the body, and start asking what has been happening to the person?

This isn't a podcast about proving that stress or long held emotion causes cancer. It isn't about finding someone or something to blame. And it isn't about replacing medicine with mindset, spirituality or alternative therapies.

It's about being curious enough to ask better questions.

What was happening in someone's life before they became ill?

What were they experiencing, carrying or struggling with?

What was happening in their body?

How do the brain, nervous system, hormones and immune system communicate?

What role might stress, trauma, belief, expectation, environment and meaning play in the way we experience health and illness?

And what can we actually say the evidence supports?

Alongside personal stories, Kyna helps you to explore the emerging science of the mind-body connection, psychoneuroimmunology, placebo and nocebo, nervous-system regulation, neuroplasticity, belief and expectation - as well as the stories of people whose recoveries don't always fit neatly into what we understand.

Because extraordinary stories aren't necessarily proof of a theory.

But they can give us questions.

And questions can lead to research.

Each episode sits at the intersection of story, science and possibility - exploring what we know, what we don't know, and what might be worth investigating.

There is no promise of a cure here. No blame. No false certainty.

Instead, there is space for curiosity, nuance and hope.

Because perhaps we don't need to choose between medicine and meaning, biology and experience, science and possibility.

Perhaps the more interesting question is what happens when we start looking at the whole human being.

Your diagnosis may have a date.
But your story started long before it... Before the Diagnosis.
