ABOUT DR. JENNIFER GAUDIANI Dr. Gaudiani (she/her) is an eating disorders expert physician and the Founder and Medical Director of the Gaudiani Clinic. Board Certified in Internal Medicine, she completed her undergraduate degree at Harvard, medical school at Boston University School of Medicine, and her internal medicine residency and chief residency at Yale. Dr. Gaudiani moved to Denver in 2007, choosing Colorado with her husband for its emphasis on the outdoors, incorporation of nature into daily life, and support of family activity time. From 2008 to 2016, she helped run and grow the ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders and Severe Malnutrition, where she fell in love with this patient population and began to learn about the medical complications of eating disorders. In 2016, inspired by her desire to improve outpatient medical care for patients with eating disorders of all sizes, shapes, genders, and diagnoses, she founded the Gaudiani Clinic. Since then, she has learned more than she ever thought possible about both measurable and unmeasurable medical issues that can trigger or perpetuate eating disorders. She has a passion for helping patients make progress on terms they name, by reducing the physical barriers to recovery. In founding the Gaudiani Clinic, she established a nationally unique outpatient medical setting, not dictated by restraints on visit time or insurance rules, where strong, supportive, and healing relationships with patients help them achieve wellness while remaining in their communities. Through lectures, consulting work, and her book, Sick Enough: A Guide to the Medical Complications of Eating Disorders and Undernutrition (Second edition, 2025; First edition 2018), she continues to improve the quality of medical care for patients with eating disorders around the world. Dr. Gaudiani has lectured nationally and internationally and is widely published in the scientific literature and on blogs, as well as having appeared on many podcasts. She is a past member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Eating Disorders and the Academy for Eating Disorders Medical Care Standards Committee. On a personal note, Dr. Gaudiani is fluent in Spanish and speaks some conversational Italian, loves hiking and spending time outdoors, is a voracious reader especially of young adult fantasy fiction, and lives with her wonderful husband and two daughters in Denver -- Thank you for listening. | Yellowstone Actress Jen Landon, Reunites with Her Former Therapist to Discuss her Eating Disorder Recovery | 01 Jul 2026 | 01:14:30
In this candid and moving conversation, Yellowstone and Grey's Anatomy actress Jen Landon opens up about the hidden complexity of eating disorders, childhood trauma, recovery, and the surprising ways identity, perfectionism, and performance can intertwine. Host and previous therapist to Jen, Carolyn Costin, brings her expertise as an eating disorder therapist to a raw and compassionate discussion about what it really takes to heal — not just physically, but emotionally and relationally. Jen shares how her relationship with food became a coping mechanism for overwhelming feelings, a sense of responsibility she carried from childhood, and the pressure of being seen in a body that was deeply connected to her sense of worth off-camera. Together, they explore how disordered eating can feel like control while actually taking control away, why recovery often begins with the smallest possible steps, and how learning to “trade up” to slightly less harmful choices can create lasting change. The conversation also touches on the role of treatment, the importance of being met with honesty and structure, and the value of seeing the healthy part of a person even when the disorder is loudest. Jen reflects on how acting, ranch work, and the physical demands of her role on Yellowstone unexpectedly helped her reconnect with her body in a more grounded way. This episode is practical, humorous and profoundly human, offering hope to anyone struggling with an eating disorder, supporting someone who is, or trying to understand how healing actually happens. | Full Recovery from an Eating Disorder is Possible: Carolyn Costin's Journey From Patient to Professional | 01 Jul 2026 | 00:46:01
In the premiere episode of Becoming Recovered: Body and Soul, Carolyn Costin shares the personal recovery story that shaped her career as one of the most influential voices in the eating disorder field. Throughout her career Carolyn has championed the concept that people can be fully recovered from an eating disorder. Due to her own experience and consequently helping thousands of others, Carolyn continues to challenge the widely held idea that, even when people get better, they are “in recovery” or “recovering” forever with this illness. Carolyn continues to say, “If I did it, so can you”, and describes what being recovered means, including: accepting one’s natural size and shape, no longer using eating disorder behaviors, and no longer compromising your health or betraying your soul to look a certain way or reach a certain number on the scale. The conversation explores Carolyn's own experience developing anorexia nervosa as a teenager after her father left her mother for a fashion model and a doctor told Carolyn she was overweight. The praise she got for losing weight spurred her on even more as her perfectionistic temperament kicked into gear. Carolyn reflects on the progression of her illness, struggling with anorexia before most people even knew it existed, and pivotal "aha moments" that helped her recognize that a separate part of her, she now calls The Eating Disorder Self, had taken control. Listeners are introduced to Carolyn's foundational philosophy, the Healthy Self versus Eating Disorder Self model, a framework that is central to her treatment success. Carolyn describes how her illness led to her lifelong career helping others recover and teaching clinicians how to do the same. She discusses the various influences that contribute to eating disorders, the importance of addressing both behavioral recovery and deeper soul-level healing. Carolyn shares her current passion, training eating disorder recovery coaches at the Carolyn, Costin Institute, and the remerging role of coaching in the eating disorder field. Throughout the conversation, Carolyn offers hope, practical wisdom, and a powerful message: full recovery is possible, and people can reclaim both their bodies and their souls. In this podcast series she brings proof of this to her audience, interviewing people from all walks of life who are recovered. Thank you for listening.
