A fun, collecting-centric episode as the guys discuss the silly card of the week (1:45), Carlos introduces "Mayo Marcel," much to Eric's chagrin (11:09), and a historic amendment is made to the infamous "BIC Rules" (38:56). Then they look at some recent pickups. (44:30)In the main topic, Carlos takes a trip down memory lane with a classic video from the channel's past and ties it into some recent thoughts and another podcast episode from this week. A few simple topics branch out into quite the super-sized episode.First, the usual segments of silly card of the week (8:55) and then pickups (19:12).From there, the discussion moves to the record-breaking $12.9 Million Kobe/Jordan Dual Logoman auto (26:41), which in turn transitions into a brief hypothetical of what things would look like if Michael Jordan were available to sign beyond his Upper Deck exclusive and an alternate world where the monopolies weren't in place. Then, in talking about a $12,000 2012 Prizm Black Finite Jay Cutler the guys discuss what else you could get with the $12k in football through another QB and consider how much beyond a "reasonable" comp they would be willing to pay for a PC/Grail piece (51:31).Lastly, a recent Mangini Collection video inspired Brandon to think through the implications of the Vintage/Modern Collector divide, perceived versus real, and why that might be the case (1:40:22).The post for the $12.9 Million Dollar Logoman sale from IG:https://www.instagram.com/p/DNyCa6JQH-c/?img_index=1Episode of Stacking Slabs that discussed the Jay Cutler Black Prizm 1/1 sale:https://www.stackingslabs.com/episodes/the-football-card-podcast-8-cutler-community-and-the-state-of-football-cards @MrJmangini  video referenced:https://youtu.be/004hkhxZ4Lw?si=vCrxbyA3xqwOcBAlComplementary  @TheSportsCardDad  discussion on a similar vein:https://youtu.be/BhCzYU3JwA4?si=0t9UJM-PxChlltu8Thanks to  @AMGCollectibles  for supporting the podcast and channel. This episode starts off with the usual segments after about 15 minutes of nonsense with Pickups (16:00) followed by the Silly Card of the Week (28:02).Then, in the first main topic, the guys discuss the 4 Collectors channel, announcing that it will be the new home of Hobby Hotline. That in itself is noteworthy, but Carlos has some questions about the potential implications for the Bench Clear channel itself and a few other dominoes that may fall (36:09).The rest of the episode covers Fanatics' recycling of Content, which led to a discussion on the perception of value and applying logic to the hobby, in violation of BIC Rule #8 (1:00:48). @4CollectorsForCollectors  Announcement video adding Hobby Hotline:https://youtu.be/NSRiiWZtIH0?si=W2Atd6a2zVeDC2PgThanks to @AMGCollectibles for supporting the podcast and channel. A trio of main topics this week, but first, we start with the silly card of the week (9:07), followed by this week's pickups (18:47) for the regular segments, which continued for a while as the guys ended up being nostalgic about old dial-up internet.Once that was done, the first main topic concerns the National that just ended and the question about whether the price, trade night/event crackdown, and other factors are creating an opportunity for competing events and card shows in the area, not unlike what happens during the week of WWE's Wrestlemania (47:17).From there, we move off into discussing how Collector's shift to move SGC into a "boutique" brand doesn't create an interesting opportunity for CGC to solidify itself into the alternative to PSA (1:14:52).Lastly, after  @BaseballCollector  did a breakdown discussing Sports Card YouTube viewership as a response to the topic recently coming back to the forefront, the guys discuss this and add some other factors that might be worth considering as to why some of the largest channels would have less views now than in the heyday of COVID, and if this even matters when you consider how many channels are out there now (1:39:11).Articles referenced:Smaller Card Shows Thrive in an Era of Big Business:https://www.sportscollectorsdaily.com/smaller-card-shows-thrive-in-an-era-of-big-business/Baseball Collector's video (Is Sports Card Content on YouTube Dying??!!):https://youtu.be/YH-ubusKj9k?si=eXvgtaZNOUzP8-BWThanks to @AMGCollectibles for supporting the podcast and channel. In the post-National episode, the guys discuss the silly card of the week (2:05), some pickups (10:51), and then some takeaways from the National coverage they saw, including Detroit being named as the site for the 2028 show and why Eric may be responsible for fun being banned at the show going forward. (23:37)Then Carlos concludes things with a quick talk on one of his hobby Pet Peeves and opens things up for others to add their own. For this week, the guys go through the usual segments, pickups (18:01), and silly card of the week. (28:24)From there, the rest of the episode consists of Carlos recapping the recent videos from the past week or so, including comments, with some observations on what it means for what people seem to be drawn to and where the Sports Card niche stands. (42:18)Lastly, we do the obligatory "National" discussion with some thoughts on where we think things will fall this week, and what, if any, takeaways we expect coming away from the card show. A few topics sprinkled in this week's episode.First, the silly card of the week starts things off (8:15), followed by a review of some comments and pickups from this week, including Carlos' World Series of Poker-themed COMC pickup (15:04).Out of pity for Eric, then they briefly discuss 'the hockeys', including Brad Marchand NOT being a Bruin going forward and Mitch Marner going to Vegas in a sign and trade deal (36:45).Then, in the main topic, Carlos gives a brief overview of the first two episodes of the new Brian Gray Podcast. Back to regular programming as Eric keeps his scandalous hot takes to a minimum. The guys show off a few recent pickups and discuss the recent Metal Universe hockey game (14:22). This is then followed by going over a few recent arguments from Discord and YouTube that Carlos found interesting hobby thesis to break down and consider. One is the thought that 90s cards have more room to move, and the second is looking at the idea of vintage eye appeal and how advice for collectors pushing them in this direction could backfire (26:38).Next, some quick hockey playoff talk, and some examples from Carlos' recent videos from his other YouTube showcases the genius of YouTube commenters. (1:11:02)Lastly, the anniversary of one of his old YouTube movie reviews that went viral allows Carlos to cause Eric's mind to explode.
