S7 E7 – How You Can Reduce Your Risk Of Dementia with Susan Saunders
vendredi 24 mai 2024 • Duration 30:25
Welcome to the 100th episode of Beauty is a Bitch! It would seem dementia is on the rise, and that is a scary realization. The truth is, women have a greater risk of developing dementia during their lifetime. In fact, around twice as many women have Alzheimer’s disease – the most common type of dementia – compared to men. The main reason for this greater risk is because women live longer than men, and old age is the biggest risk factor for this disease. However, other factors also play a role.
Some of these risks can be mitigated, which begs the question, “What can we do for better brain health?”
Health coach Susan Saunders, specializes in helping women over 50 reduce dementia risk and optimize brain health through science-backed habits. She is the author of three books on healthy aging and longevity, with her most recent being The Power Decade: How to Thrive After Menopause.
Susan holds a high-level qualification as a dementia prevention coach under the guidance of neuroscientist Dr. Dale Bredesen, author of The End of Alzheimer’s. She was among the first in the UK to qualify as a coach in his program. Susan has successfully coached hundreds of people globally, helping them build habits scientifically proven to reduce dementia risk.
Please join Lauren and Susan as they dig deep into: the single most important thing we can do to look after our brains as we age; the six pillars of better brain health; why Susan started on this journey to better brain health; why we need to emphasize healthy habits to reduce our dementia risk; why more women than men get dementia; what happens to our brains during menopause; and what a coaching session looks like. S6 E11 What You Need To Know About Midlife Food Allergies With Dr. Gill Hart
vendredi 6 octobre 2023 • Duration 33:58
Can you suddenly develop food allergies in midlife? You bet! As we age, our immune system may weaken naturally (not to mention our out-of-whack hormones) which may be why you’re suddenly struggling with foods you were always able to eat before. But maybe what you are experiencing is actually a food intolerance and not a food allergy. It can be difficult to differentiate between the two. And we need to, because in order to feel our best, it’s important to know which foods to avoid.
Dr. Gill Hart is a PhD Biochemist and the Scientific Director at YorkTest Laboratories. Her passion for science and helping people improve their health has guided her entire career. From managing a hospital hormone testing lab to developing unique “at home” fertility tests for men and women. Since 2005 she has been with YorkTest where her food sensitivity testing came to be. She says seeing the difference that it makes to everyday lives is the pinnacle of her career.
YorkTest Laboratories Inc pioneered the first IgG based food sensitivity in the 90’s, and can boast that as of today, they have tested over half a million people.
Listen as Lauren and Dr. Hart talk about: the main differences between food allergies and food intolerance; why it seems food allergies on are the rise; the age range when food allergies and intolerances typically develop; if both can change as you get older; the most common food allergies and food intolerances in middle aged women; how our hormones impact our reactions to certain foods; the most common symptoms of both food allergies and food intolerances in middle aged women; and the best ways to manage food allergies and intolerances in our daily lives.
