The To-Don't List: Permission to Stop Doing [ Part 2 with Elizabeth Andreyevskiy]29 Sep 202600:24:07

The To-Don't List: Permission to Stop Doing — with Elizabeth A. (Part 2 of 2)

This is part two of my conversation with Elizabeth A. — if you haven't listened to part one yet, start there first. These two episodes are meant to be heard together: part one is the awakening, part two is what to actually do about it.

Elizabeth introduces her "to-don't list" — and it's less about productivity than permission. Permission to stop doing everything, and start caring for yourself instead. Here on Beat Nurse Burnout, I call this same practice an Energy Audit — because before you can protect your energy, you have to know exactly where it's leaking.

If this episode stirs something in you — if you already know there are things on your plate that need to go — this is your sign to take the next step.

Book your free Stress Assessment: click here  When you book, add "energy" in the notes and we'll build your energy audit into the call — one step, one conversation, and you'll walk away with real clarity on what to release.

In this episode:

  • What a to-don't list is, and how it's different from prioritizing your to-do list
  • How to decide what actually belongs on yours
  • Why permission — not more tools — is often the missing piece
  • How Elizabeth's to-don't list connects to the Energy Audit process Shalom Shalom, Xx, Shan ……CONNECT…… with Elizabeth- www.emotionallyhealthylegacy.com The STAT Protocol: 5 min Emergency Reset Stress Assessment - get to the root of your stress/ complimentary but only a few spots each week 💖Anti-Aging Power 3!! -my top tools for Longevity! 🙌STEADY : group coaching program 🎉Stress Less community (free to join) Disclaimer: Information given within the podcast is not intended for medical advice, rather advice and encouragement for developing wellness habits for healthy living. From "10% Away from a Mental Breakdown" to Healing [ Part 1 with Elizabeth Andreyevskiy]22 Sep 202600:30:57

In this episode, I sit down with Elizabeth A. — Anger Management Coach for Christian Moms and podcast host — for part one of a two-part conversation on burnout, breakdown, and what real healing actually looks like.

This January, Elizabeth told her husband something a lot of us have felt but never said out loud: "I feel like I'm 10% away from a mental breakdown." In this episode, she walks us through exactly what that moment felt like, what pushed her there, and the real steps she took afterward — therapy, coaching, and rebuilding her capacity from the ground up.

If any part of Elizabeth's story feels familiar, you don't have to wait until you're 10% away from your own breaking point.

Book your { free } Stress Assessment- click here This is a real session to assess your stress, needs and serve you. Also, we'll uncover your best next step together to stress less. 100% of the people who've booked a call have told me they left feeling better, more calm, more peace than when they started.

In this episode:

  • Elizabeth's story of reactivity, anger, and feeling out of control as a mom
  • The recent moment she realized she was 10% from a breakdown
  • What therapy and coaching actually helped her rebuild
  • Why waiting until you're at your limit isn't a strategy

Part two drops next — where Elizabeth shares the practice that gave her permission to stop doing and start healing.

Phantom Shifts: Why Your Brain Never Clocks Out (Even On Your Days Off)15 Sep 202600:23:33

In this follow-up to our conversation with Jolene, author of Still Standing: One Burnt-Out Nurse's Story, Shan breaks down the two hidden autopilot patterns driving nurse burnout that most self-care advice completely misses: an identity so fused to the caregiver role it can't be set down, and a nervous system so stuck in "shift mode" it never actually clocks out, even during time off.

If you've ever cried in your car after a shift, dreaded the next one before you'd even left the last, or found yourself mentally charting on your day off, this episode explains why, and why breathing exercises and journaling haven't touched it.

In this episode:

  • Why chronic stress shows up long before burnout, and the early warning signs most nurses miss (00:45)
  • What "phantom shifts" are, and why your brain won't clock out even when your body has (00:45)
  • Why taking on other people's emotions is an autopilot response tied to caregiver identity, not a personality trait (03:30)
  • The real reason self-care tools like journaling and breathing exercises stop working on a stuck nervous system (06:30)
  • A real STEADY client's experience shifting from reactive to responding with compassion (09:30)
  • Why "repair first, regulate second" is the missing order in most burnout advice (10:30)

This Nurse Wrote the Book on Burnout -- While Still In It08 Sep 202600:40:40

What does burnout actually look like from the inside... when you're still showing up, still performing, still getting it done?

Today's guest, Jolene Smith, knows exactly what that feels like. Jolene is an LPN with nearly two decades of experience across long-term care, corrections, and occupational health. She is still working bedside. And she wrote STILL STANDING: One Burnt-out Nurse's Story — not from the other side of burnout... but from inside it.

Post-it notes covering her bedroom walls. Notebooks full of thoughts that had nowhere else to go. A body sending signals she couldn't ignore anymore.

In this episode, Jolene shares:

  • What burnout actually felt like from the inside — and why she thought something was wrong with her
  • The moment her body finally said "I don't want to do this anymore" — and what she did next
  • Why switching facilities didn't fix it... because it wasn't the job
  • What "phantom shifts" are doing to your nervous system on your days off
  • Why she wrote the book from inside burnout — and what she wants the nurse who is still standing to hear

If you have ever sat in your car before a shift and already felt like crying... if you have ever started caring less — not about your patients, but about everything — and wondered what that meant about you...

This episode is going to feel like someone finally said it out loud.

Breath Prayer for Nurses Who Feel Like a Failure: You Are Not What You DO [ Breathe & Be Still series ]01 Sep 202600:11:01

You clocked in exhausted. You made a mistake, or felt like you did. And somewhere in there, you started measuring your worth by your shift instead of remembering who made you.

Psalm 139:14 says it plain: "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made." Not because of what you got done today. Because you exist. That's it. That's the whole qualification.

In this episode we sit with that truth and let it undo the performance-based lie burnout loves to whisper.

Breath Prayer: Inhale: I am fearfully and wonderfully made (hold 4 counts) Exhale: I praise you, Lord.

Come back to this one on the drive home. In the supply closet. Before you walk back in the room. Let it remind your nervous system what's actually true.

Want to go deeper? If this hit something in you... if you're realizing your worth has quietly gotten tangled up with your job... let's talk about it. Book a stress assessment and we'll dig into your unique Kingdom Identity together.

Aligned Leadership for Nurses and Working Moms: How to Lead Yourself Before You Lead Anyone Else [ with Susan Ro]25 Aug 202600:38:17

In this episode of Beat Nurse Burnout, Shan sits down with Susan Ro — creator of the Aligned Leadership Method, host of the Leadership for Busy Working Moms podcast, and a woman who knows firsthand what it looks like to rebuild your life around what actually matters.

Susan went from the high-energy world of New York City fashion to teaching, marriage, motherhood of four boys, and eventually to coaching and leading other women — and the thread running through all of it is a simple but radical conviction: that lasting leadership starts with leading yourself, in alignment with Christ, before it ever extends to anyone else.

This episode is for the nurse who is excellent at her job and exhausted in her life. It is for the woman of faith who has confused people pleasing with godliness. It is for the high achiever who has never once thought of herself as a leader — because she has spent her entire career following someone else's agenda.

In this conversation, Shan and Susan talk about:

  • The through line God was weaving through Susan's career path that she could not see until she looked back
  • What busy working moms and nurses have in common no matter how different their circumstances look on the outside
  • Why leading yourself first is not selfish — and how to reframe it as the most faithful thing you can do
  • How aligning your life to Christ functions as a leadership strategy — not just a spiritual practice — and what that changes about daily decisions, schedules, and relationships
  • What to say to the woman who has never thought of herself as a leader because she has always been the one taking orders
  • How people pleasing hides inside faithfulness and how to finally recognize it for what it is
  • What stewarding your own life — your health, your time, your calling — looks like as an act of obedience rather than selfishness
  • How to actually debrief after a hard shift or a hard day instead of just absorbing it and carrying it home
  • How to articulate your feelings clearly — because clarity about what you are experiencing is the first step to leading yourself out of it
  • What stepping into obedience to who God called you to be actually requires — and what it costs to keep saying no to it

If you have ever felt like leadership was something you did for other people and never for yourself — this episode is going to reframe everything.

ICU Nurse, PTSD, Fractured Spine... The Warning Signs You Cannot Afford to Miss [with Ashley Chancellor] / 24518 Aug 202600:37:05

What happens when a nurse gives 14 years to the ICU, survives COVID on the front lines, fractures her spine, and battles PTSD... and still finds her way back to hope?

That's Ashley Chancellor's story. And she is telling all of it.

In this episode of the Beat Nurse Burnout Podcast, we sit down with Ashley Chancellor, RN, bestselling author of Just a Nurse: Memoir on the Heartbeat of Healing, Writing Coach, and Self-Empowerment Coach for nurses. Ashley spent 14 years in critical care, traveled as an ICU nurse for 9 of those years, and watched the healthcare system collapse from the front row. Then COVID broke more than just the system... it broke her physically and emotionally.

At 38, Ashley retired from bedside nursing. But she didn't stop caring. She started writing to heal, found God in the process, and now empowers other nurses to heal themselves first so we can heal the world together.

In this episode we talk about:

  • How burnout shows up in high-achieving nurses
  • What it means to heal your body, your mind, AND your spirit after trauma
  • Writing as a tool for self-discovery and emotional processing
  • Finding faith in the wreckage of burnout
  • What "doing the nursing you love" actually looks like outside the hospital walls
  • Ashley's free resource to begin your own healing journey

5 Nurse Burnout Signs You’ve Mistaken For Being A 'Good Nurse' That Are Actually Destroying Your Health / 24011 Aug 202600:28:20

You can assess a whole unit in thirty seconds... but when's the last time you assessed yourself?

In this episode, I'm breaking down the five signs of nurse burnout that don't look like burnout at all. They look like being reliable. Being the strong one. Being a good nurse. And that's exactly why so many of us miss them, or catch them years too late.

If you've ever wondered whether you're actually burned out, or if you're the nurse who's so deep in autopilot you haven't even stopped to ask... friend, this one's for you.

In this episode, we cover:

  • The 3 lies keeping high-functioning nurses stuck (starting with "I just need to push through")
  • Sign 1: you can assess everyone's needs except your own
  • Sign 2: your default answer is yes, and no comes with guilt attached
  • Sign 3: you're exhausted but rest feels like a threat, not a relief
  • Sign 4: what chronic stress is actually doing to your body at the cellular level
  • Sign 5: the calling you had before your first preceptor told you to toughen up

Why The Hidden Cost Of Compassion Fatigue Is Draining Your Faith & Stealing Your Identity [with Lisa Carriere] / 24304 Aug 202600:53:36

In this episode, Lisa Ackland Carriere — founder of The Writing Well and writer at The Daily Calling on Substack — joins us to talk about the side of caregiving no one signs up for. When caregiving is forced on you by circumstance rather than chosen as a profession, compassion fatigue can quietly take root, leaving you emotionally shut down and disconnected from your own identity. Lisa shares her personal journey through years of layered crisis — parenting a son with ADD, developmental delays, and learning disabilities; a move that strained her marriage; the sudden loss of her mother; her brother's brain cancer diagnosis and death; and her husband's subsequent pancreatic cancer diagnosis. We talk about what compassion fatigue really looks like for caregivers — nurses and everyday women alike — how God reframes identity and purpose through the caregiving journey, and practical ways to support a caregiver both in the thick of crisis and in the aftermath, whatever the outcome.

In This Episode:

  • What compassion fatigue is and how it accumulates over years of caregiving for a loved one who needs ongoing, difficult care
  • Lisa's story: a son with developmental and learning challenges, a marital rift after relocating for his schooling, and a cascade of loss — her mother, her brother, and her husband's health
  • The difference between caregiving as a chosen profession and caregiving that's simply your life
  • How identity gets buried under years of "just showing up," and how it can be reclaimed
  • How God reframes purpose and identity in the middle of caregiving crisis
  • Practical ways to support a caregiver mid-crisis
  • Practical ways to support a caregiver after the crisis — whether their loved one survived or passed away

242/ Why Your Identity As A 'Good Nurse' Is Actually Fueling Your Burnout & Keeping You Stuck In Survival Mode [ with Anna Girgan]28 Jul 202600:40:43

For years, achievement was the plan. Corporate success, leadership, recognition... it was supposed to add up to a fulfilled life. Instead it added up to exhaustion.

In this episode, I sit down with Anna Girgan, Founder of EPIPHANIES™ and host of the EPIPHANIES podcast, to talk about the belief her entire movement is built on... identity shapes reality. We get into what happens when high-achieving women (nurses, this is you too) spend years performing instead of living in alignment with who they were actually created to be, and what it took for Anna to walk away from a two-decade career to find out who she was without the title. Anna Girgan is the Founder of EPIPHANIES™, a movement built on one core belief... identity shapes reality. Anna helps ambitious women activate who they were created to be, so they can stop living reactively and start creating lives, businesses, and legacies that actually reflect their potential. She blends neuroscience, practical strategy, and faith in a way I have not heard anywhere else... she's not handing you more information. She's helping you get activated. Anna is also the host of the EPIPHANIES podcast, where every single conversation starts with one question: what's YOUR epiphany?

In this episode, we cover:

  • Why burnout is often an identity wake-up call in disguise
  • What it looks like to move from surviving to living in alignment
  • Anna's signature question, and why she asks every guest: what's YOUR epiphany?
  • Her new exciting offer that gets Obedience into quick Action!

241/ How to Silence Your Inner Critic: A Breath Prayer for Nurses Who Feel Like They're Failing [Breathe & Be Still Series]21 Jul 202600:11:00

This episode is for the nurse who is her own harshest critic — replaying the shift on the drive home, fixating on the one thing that went wrong instead of everything that went right.

In this episode, we talk about how the precision this job demands (because a small mistake really can mean someone gets hurt) can quietly turn into a critical inner voice that never clocks out. It follows you home. It shows up in how you parent, how you rest, how you talk to yourself about the small human moments — the late clock-in, the snoozed alarm, the donut from the breakroom.

We sit with Romans 8:1 and the truth that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus — not "no condemnation if," just no condemnation. And we talk about the order that grace actually works in: we don't clean ourselves up to earn it, we receive it because of who He is — and once we know our worth, we can finally stop condemning ourselves.

Then we breathe it in, one truth at a time:

Inhale: I'm in Christ Jesus Exhale: There is No condemnation

Scripture featured: Romans 8:1

If this episode met you somewhere tender today, share it with a nurse who needs to hear it too. Shalom, shalom. 🕊️

Stop Nurse Anxiety Autopilot Before You Snap Or Shut Down By Doing THIS One Simple Shift On The Floor / 24014 Jul 202600:24:52

Today we talk about the 4 unconscious anxiety autopilot behaviors nurses fall into on shift — conflict, distancing, over-functioning, and projection — and how to disrupt them.

Seven to nine seconds. That's how long before you're even consciously aware of it that a biochemical stress reaction has already set your autopilot into motion on shift. In this episode, I break down the Yerkes-Dodson stress curve and the four unconscious autopilot behaviors anxiety triggers in nurses — conflict, distancing, over/under-functioning, and projection — with real, specific nursing-shift examples for each one. You'll learn why these patterns exist, how to recognize your own default, and how to disrupt it in real time using the STAT Protocol, a simple in-the-moment tool you can use mid-shift, even in an emergency.

What You'll Learn
  • The Yerkes-Dodson stress curve and what it reveals about the difference between optimal stress, fatigue, anxiety, and burnout
  • Why anxiety autopilot behaviors form outside your conscious control — and where they come from
  • The 4 autopilot patterns nurses default to under stress: conflict, distancing, over/under-functioning, and projection
  • Real nursing examples of each pattern in action, from compassion fatigue to post-shift irritability
  • How to use the STAT Protocol (See, Take a Breath, Acknowledge, Thanksgiving) to disrupt autopilot in the moment
  • Reflection questions to process your shift and reset your response pattern for next time Recognize yourself in one of these four patterns? DM "STRESS" @theshanwright on instagram or email: hello@theshanwright.com to get the free STAT Protocol and take your next shift with a tool in your pocket instead of just an autopilot in charge. 239/ Are You Healing the Root, or Just Managing the Symptom with a Quick Fix? REAL Talk with Erica Ballard07 Jul 202600:35:53

Your body has been talking to you the whole time. The question is whether you've been listening — or reaching for the next quick fix instead.

In this episode, I sit down with Erica Ballard, Women's Health Coach and founder of her own integrative health coaching practice, to talk about what your body is really communicating when it shows up in fatigue, gut issues, flare-ups, and burnout symptoms nurses know all too well. We dig into the brain-body connection behind lasting habit change, why stress is so often the missing piece in the healing conversation, and the real reason so many high-achieving women — nurses especially — choose the harder path of managing symptoms instead of the shorter (but scarier) path of healing what's actually underneath.

If you've ever done "all the right things" for your health and still felt stuck, this conversation will change how you think about what healing actually requires.

What We Cover
  • Why physical symptoms are often the body's way of communicating unmet emotional or spiritual needs
  • How to build health habits that work with your brain and body — not against them
  • The overlooked role stress plays in chronic health issues for high-functioning women
  • Why the "hard road to healing" is actually easier than the quick fixes we keep choosing
  • How high-achieving women, especially nurse, learn to override their body's signals
  • The difference between treating a symptom and healing its root cause

238/ How 12-Hour Shift Work Is Unknowingly Killing Your Hormones & Why Your Exhaustion Isn't Just 'Part Of The Job' [ Dr. Aaron Chapa ]30 Jun 202600:45:12

HI Nurse friend, Have you ever wondered why you're doing "everything right" but still feel exhausted, inflamed, and hormonally off? The answer might not be what you're eating — it might be when you're working.

In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Aaron Chapa, Doctor of Chiropractic and functional health expert, to have the conversation nurses desperately need to hear. Dr. Chapa specializes in hormones, metabolism, and whole-body wellness, and as the founder of Living Well Clinical Nutrition, he has helped hundreds of people find real answers to fatigue, hormone imbalance, and chronic inflammation.

He made one statement early in our conversation that set the tone for everything: nurses are his best and worst clients. And once you hear why, you won't be able to unhear it.

We get into the real, practical, science-based strategies that work even with a nurse's unpredictable schedule — and why your days off might be the most powerful health tool you're not using.

In This Episode We Cover:

  • Why nurses are uniquely positioned — and uniquely at risk — when it comes to holistic health
  • The true tax that shift work places on your hormones, metabolism, and inflammatory load
  • How to break your fast in a way that supports your body instead of working against it

237/ The Hidden Reason You're Always Stressed About Time23 Jun 202600:12:01

What if time isn't actually your enemy? In this episode, I flip the script on one of the most universal struggles for burned-out nurses and high-achieving women: the relentless feeling of not enough time. Drawing from a personal story, 20 years of clinical experience, and a faith-rooted perspective, I reveal why how you see time determines how you experience your day. And I offer three practical tools to help you stop surviving your schedule and start receiving your life.

What You'll Learn in This Episode

  • Why hurry and hustle aren't time management problems — they're symptoms of a scarcity worldview
  • The single mindset shift that transforms how you move through your day
  • How "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want" is actually a time statement
  • Three practical tools to help you live like time is a gift — not a threat
  • Why presence is the superpower of every caregiver (and how we accidentally steal it from ourselves)
  • What your nervous system has to do with whether you can actually receive the time in front of you

236/ ENERGY IS EVERYTHING: What Quantum Physics, Scripture, and Your Body Already Know About Burnout16 Jun 202600:33:50

What if your burnout isn't just a scheduling problem — what if it's an energy problem? In this powerful episode, we explore why emotional healing is the missing piece in most nurse leader recovery plans. Drawing from Scripture, quantum physics, and the bioresonance technology behind WholeBio Insights, Shan reveals how unresolved emotions are stored in the body as disrupted frequencies — and why you can't think your way out of what your nervous system is holding.

Joined by Aligned leadership coach, Kassandra Hamilton, this episode takes you inside a real burnout story and the emotional work that made recovery possible. If you've tried all the strategies and still feel depleted, this episode will help you understand why — and what to do about it.

What You'll Learn in This Episode

This episode is for you if you've been asking why rest isn't enough, why strategies aren't sticking, or why you still feel empty even when things look okay on the outside. Here's what we cover:

  • Why burnout is fundamentally an energy problem — and what the Bible has always said about it
  • The Hebrew meaning of Shalom and why it's actually a description of energetic wholeness
  • What Proverbs 17:22 reveals about the body-emotion-health connection (that science is just now catching up to)
  • How Mark Virkler's "Prayers that Heal the Heart" framework reframes emotional healing as a clinical necessity, not just spiritual work
  • What quantum physics' Observer Effect has to do with your burnout recovery
  • Why emotion is literally "energy in motion" — and what happens when you suppress it
  • How bioresonance technology (WholeBio Insights™) reads the body's frequencies to reveal emotional disruption before symptoms become diagnosable
  • Kassandra Hamilton's honest account of what burnout looked and felt like as a leader — and what it actually took to heal

Key Takeaways

"Burnout is not a scheduling problem. It is an energy problem. And you cannot fix an energy problem with a schedule change."

"Management and healing are not the same thing. You can manage your emotions your whole life and still be running on frequencies of unresolved fear and grief that are quietly depleting you."

"The word emotion is energy in motion. When we suppress emotion, we stop that energy in its tracks — and stored emotional energy creates disruption in the body's field."

235/Do THIS To Release Compassion Fatigue & Stop Bringing Workplace Grief Home After A Brutal Nursing Shift [ Breathe & Be Still Series ]09 Jun 202600:11:34

Nurse leader, You gave everything today. Now it's time to give it to God.

If you're listening to this on your commute home — in your car, on the train, walking to your front door — this episode was made for this exact moment.

You just survived a shift that had no business being that hard. You were in charge. The floor was chaos. There was a patient loss, coworker conflict, impossible decisions made in seconds, and nurses running on empty. And somehow, you were the one holding it all together.

Your body is exhausted. Your nervous system is still activated. And if you go to sleep without releasing what you absorbed today, you'll carry it into tomorrow — because the body keeps the score.

In this Breathe & Be Still episode, we do something simple and sacred: we release it all through guided breath prayer — and receive the peace God promises in return.

In this episode, you'll:

  • Move through a 3-minute guided breath prayer rooted in Philippians 4:6-7
  • Learn why releasing post-shift emotions isn't weakness — it's nervous system wisdom and biblical obedience
  • Discover the difference between true shalom and just "being tired"
  • Stop the rumination loop so your mind and body can actually restore overnight

This episode is for you if:

  • You're a nurse, charge nurse, or nurse leader coming off a hard shift
  • You struggle to "turn off" your brain after work
  • You've experienced patient loss, compassion fatigue, or secondary trauma
  • You're a faith-based nurse looking for a spiritual practice that actually fits your life
  • You want to protect your peace without toxic positivity or empty self-care advice

Scripture Featured: 📖 Philippians 4:6-7 (Amplified Bible) "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

234/ Stress, Perfectionism & the Emotional Work that Restores Resilient Nurses [ with Brooke Billingsley]02 Jun 202600:40:20

If you have emotions, this episode is for you...😉 You've blamed the short staffing. You've blamed the charting. You've blamed the administration. But what if the real root of your burnout is something no hospital policy can fix? In this episode, I sit down with Brooke Billingsley — owner and founder of Task to Touch training videos for nurses — to talk about the one skill nursing school never taught you: Emotional Intelligence. Brooke shares how EQ is the missing link between the nurse you are and the nurse you were called to be, and why learning to receive yourself with compassion is the first step to showing up fully for your patients.

In this episode we cover:

  • Why the nurse-patient relationship starts with the relationship you have with yourself
  • How perfectionism is quietly fueling your stress and eroding your resilience
  • What Emotional Intelligence actually looks like on a busy nursing unit
  • The difference between prioritizing tasks and prioritizing what matters most
  • Why self-compassion isn't selfish — it's clinical

About Brooke Billingsley: Brooke is the owner and founder of Task to Touch, a training video platform helping nurses build resilience through the power of Emotional Intelligence. Her work is transforming how nurses show up — for their patients and for themselves.

233/ The Burnout Root Nobody Talks About & How to Fix it26 May 202600:18:28

If you've been stuck in burnout recovery doing all the right things and still feeling empty, exhausted, and disconnected - this episode is going to hit different. I'm going to the deepest root of nurse burnout that nobody talks about: identity.

In this solo episode, Shan shares her personal journey from perfectionism and performance-driven living to freedom, and why understanding your God-given identity is the most clinically and spiritually sound path to sustainable burnout recovery. If you're a burned-out nurse, a high-achieving Christian woman, or a caregiver who is running on empty — this one is for you.

IN THIS EPISODE YOU'LL LEARN:

  • Why perfectionism is the #1 identity trap for nurses — and why nursing school makes it worse
  • The physiological toll of chronic stress and survival-mode living on your body (weight gain, inflammation, headaches, exhaustion that sleep doesn't fix)
  • Why fear is not your enemy — it's a signpost pointing to the lies you believe about yourself and God
  • What Isaiah 43:1 reveals about belonging, identity, and why God's answer to your fear is not "try harder"
  • Why you can only give what you've received — and how a false identity silently affects your patients, your coworkers, and your family
  • How identity is the foundation of true, lasting burnout recovery
  • The first step in the CARE Method™ — and why Clarifying your identity comes before everything else

232/ Burnout Behind the Mask: How to Stress Less as a Modern Woman [with Nadine Dyer]19 May 202600:37:32

In this episode, Shan sits down with Nadine Dyer — founder and CEO of Purposeful Living Inc. and a passionate advocate for the woman the world sees as strong, capable, and put-together, but who privately is carrying far more than anyone knows.

Nadine calls her the modern woman. And if you have ever smiled through exhaustion, performed competence while running on empty, or kept it together publicly while quietly falling apart — she is talking about you.

This conversation is honest, faith-filled, and deeply personal. Nadine shares the testimony that changed everything for her — the moment Jesus became not just a name she knew, but a living reality that reoriented her entire life. And she shares the two keys that have guided her and the women she serves toward a life with genuinely less stress — not as a coping strategy, but as a way of being.

In this episode, Nadine and Shan talk about:

  • Who the modern woman really is
  • Nadine's personal testimony of finding Jesus and what that encounter changed in her
  • Her two keys to living with less stress
  • Her Nonprofit mission
  • The non-negotionable way to live with clarity and peace

This episode is for the nurse who gives everything at work and has nothing left when she gets home. It is for the woman who looks strong to everyone around her and feels like she is barely holding on. And it is for anyone who has wondered if there is a version of this life that feels less like white-knuckling and more like actually living.

The answer is yes. And this conversation is a good place to start.

231/ Could What You HEAR Be Burning You Out?12 May 202600:24:11

What if I told you that some of the stress destroying your health right now has nothing to do with your patient load, your manager, or your schedule — and everything to do with what you are allowing into your mind every single day?

Today we are talking about the hidden input that is quietly fueling your burnout — and more importantly, what to do about it.

In this episode, Shan tackles one of the most overlooked drivers of nurse burnout — the mental and emotional inputs we are consuming every single day without realizing the toll they are taking on our nervous systems and our health.

This episode covers:

  • Why nurses are uniquely exposed to negative mental input — both on and off the clock
  • The specific inputs quietly fueling your cortisol and inflammation
  • How to audit and guard your mind the same way you protect your patients
  • Practical strategies for setting limits on negative people, media, and break room culture
  • What to intentionally fill your mind with to begin shifting your nervous system toward healing
  • How the words you speak about yourself are shaping your body in real time

Chronic stress is not just a feeling. It is a physical process. It is breaking down your collagen, inflaming your joints, disrupting your hormones, accelerating your aging, and quietly doing damage that compounds over time. And most of us — especially nurses — have been in that chronic stress state for so long that we have forgotten what it feels like to not feel that way.

One of the most powerful tools I use personally and recommend to every woman I coach is Liquid BioCell Collagen — a clinically studied, highly bioavailable collagen and hyaluronic acid complex that your body can actually absorb and use to repair what chronic stress is breaking down. 230/ The ICU Nurse Who Was Burnt Out and Couldn't Heal (Until She Tried This)05 May 202600:45:49

In this episode I sit down with Stephanie Taylor, cardiac ICU nurse, mom, and holistic health advocate -for a raw and real conversation about what burnout actually looks like when it lives in your body, not just your mind.

Stephanie spent years at the bedside while her health quietly unraveled. Despite doing everything she knew to do like eating well, exercising, pushing through, she was exhausted, inflamed, in chronic pain, and carrying weight her body refused to let go of. At 5'2" and nearly 200 pounds, the number on the scale was the least of her concerns. She just didn't feel like herself anymore.

What changed wasn't a new diet or workout program. It was learning to support her body at a cellular level — reducing inflammation, improving absorption, and giving her body what it needed to actually heal — not just cope.

In this episode we talk about:

  • What cardiac ICU nursing does to your body over time — and why "healthy habits" alone are not enough
  • The moment Stephanie realized she wasn't aging poorly, she was just unsupported
  • Why nurses are uniquely resistant to asking for help — and what it took for Stephanie to finally do it
  • The role of holistic supplementation in healing inflammation, restoring energy, and losing weight sustainably
  • How she rebuilt her health while still working ICU, raising a family, and living real life
  • What she wants every burned-out nurse to know: you are not broken

Whether you are deep in burnout, stuck in a cycle of trying and failing, or just running on fumes and wondering if this is as good as it gets — this episode will meet you where you are.

GIFT FOR YOU:

Happy Nurses Week and it is Mental Health Awareness Month and because I know you are dealing with chronic stress, I need to say:  chronic stress is not just a feeling — it is a physical process that is aging your body, breaking down your collagen, disrupting your hormones, and quietly doing damage that compounds over time.

My favorite tool to support the holistic body and combat this head on is Liquid BioCell. It is not just a collagen. It is a clinically studied, highly bioavailable collagen and hyaluronic acid matrix that your body can actually absorb and use. It supports your joints, your skin, your gut, your energy — and it directly addresses the physical breakdown that chronic stress causes.

Because stress is aging us. And this is my favorite tool to fight back I want to extend an extra special coupon!

This month, in honor of Nurses Week and Mental Health Awareness Month, I want to give you an extra $25 off. All you have to do is send me a message on Instagram — just DM me the word COLLAGEN — and I will get you taken care of personally. https://www.instagram.com/theshanwright/

Your body has been doing hard things for a long time. It deserves real support. DM me COLLAGEN on Instagram and let's get you started. 💙

229/ The Best Practice for Every Perfectionist & High-Achiever [Breathe & Be Still Series]28 Apr 202600:11:19

Welcome to another breath prayer episode, in the Breathe and be still series. Let's breathe and be still and know that He is Lord and you are safe, known, loved by Him.

Maycember is upon us and we need a breath prayer for the busy, the hurried, the month that is extra, the MOM in may....and the one who is already stressed out BEFORE may!

And this one is special...this one is personal.

This breath prayer — More of You, Less of Me — was the first one I ever clung to. It found me in the middle of my burnout season. And if you're a high achiever, a recovering perfectionist, someone who has built their identity on doing things right — I believe it's going to find you today too.

228/ Feeling Burnt Out? My Favorite, Quick, Simple Hack That Works!21 Apr 202600:23:17

Hi Nurse, What if the most powerful burnout recovery tool available to you cost nothing, required no prescription, and took less than seven minutes a day?

In this fan-favorite episode — one of the most played in the Beat Nurse Burnout library — Shan Wright, RN and holistic stress expert, shares the simplest, most clinically supported, and most spiritually grounded hack for anxiety she knows: singing truth out loud.

This is not a feel-good suggestion. This is neuroscience meeting scripture — and the results will make your clinical brain stop in its tracks.

IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN:

  • Why your brain cannot simultaneously hold anxiety and spoken truth — and how to use that fact to interrupt the anxiety loop in real time
  • The jaw-dropping science behind seven minutes of daily worship music — including reduced cortisol, lower inflammation, decreased anxiety and depression, boosted immune function, reduced pain perception, and increased neuroplasticity
  • How burnout carves grooves of fear and cynicism into your neural pathways — and how worship begins to carve new ones
  • Why David sent worship before the battle, Jehoshaphat sent worshippers before the army, and how ancient scripture knew what neuroscience is only now catching up to
  • The biblical command to remember — and why God gave His people a song instead of a sermon
  • Shan's go-to worship playlist for anxiety, overwhelm, spiritual silence, and waiting seasons

SONGS MENTIONED:

  • Firm Foundation — Cody Carnes
  • Silence — JWLKS
  • Gratitude / Worthy of It All — Brandon Lake & Natalie Grant
  • Windows Down- Cain
  • The Only Way Through — Benjamin William Hastings

SCRIPTURE REFERENCED:

  • Psalm 98:1
  • Deuteronomy 31:19
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24

YOUR PRACTICE FROM THIS EPISODE: Seven minutes of worship every day — morning, midday, or before bed. Start a playlist today. And sing out loud. Even if you feel nothing. Especially if you feel nothing.

227/ Burnt Out Bedside to Kingdom Business: Turn Your Nursing Skills Into Your Calling [with Leniesha Norwood, RN]14 Apr 202600:38:58

Hey friend! I am so glad you are here today, because this episode — this one right here — is one I have been genuinely excited to bring to you.

Have you ever had that quiet, persistent feeling that God is calling you to something more — something beyond the bedside — but you did not know what to do with it? Maybe you have been faithful to your nursing career, you have given it everything, and yet there is this stirring in your spirit that will not go away. Like there is something else. Something bigger. Something you were built for that your nursing license alone cannot contain.

If that resonates with you — stay right where you are. Because today's guest was made for this conversation.

I have the honor of introducing you to Leniesha Norwood. Leniesha is a critical care nurse, a homeschool mom, an entrepreneur, a Holy Spirit-led coach, and the host of the Nurse to CEO Podcast. She brings over two decades of healthcare experience to everything she does — and she has spent that time not just caring for patients, but paying attention to what God was building in her through every single shift.

She mentors nurses who feel that tension — the one so many of you know — between serving faithfully at the bedside and sensing God calling them to more.

In today's episode, Leniesha is unpacking something that I think is going to genuinely shift how you see yourself. Because here is the truth she is going to walk you through: you have been trained in far more than patient care. The skills you use every single day at the bedside; your ability to teach, to lead under pressure, to simplify complex information, to guide people through some of the hardest moments of their lives.... those are not just nursing skills. Those are Kingdom skills. Those are coaching skills. Those are the skills that build something that lasts beyond a 12-hour shift.

Romans 11:29 says: "For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable." That means what God placed in you did not expire at the bedside. And today, Leneisha is going to help you start seeing that clearly.

Now — I also want to make sure you know about something special she has coming up. On April 22nd at 11:30 AM Eastern, Leniesha is hosting the RN to CEO Shift Workshop — and it is going exactly where today's conversation is going, only deeper. She is going to walk you through how your nursing skills translate into coaching, mentorship, online business, and Kingdom-centered impact. Real examples. Practical steps. And the clarity you have been looking for about what your "next" could actually look like.

You must be registered to attend or receive the replay. Go to rnskills.theconsecratedceo.com. I'll be there! You don't want to miss it!

226/ The Science-Backed, Biblical Tool That Fights Burnout at the Root07 Apr 202600:17:04
HI Nurse friend, In this expanded follow-up to Episode 224, we go deep on one of the most powerful — and most overlooked — tools in burnout recovery: self-compassion. Not as a soft concept, but as an active, research-supported practice that can literally change your nervous system chemistry. And it’s biblically based! In fact, Jesus said it was the second greatest commandment!  In this episode, we cover:
  • The difference between self-love and self-compassion — and why you can have one without the other
  • What Matthew 22:39 actually says about how you are meant to love yourself (the Greek changes everything)
  • The research from Kristin Neff's Mindful Self-Compassion for Burnout — including a pilot program with healthcare workers that reduced all three core dimensions of burnout
  • Why your inner critic is keeping your body in fight-or-flight — and how a wise inner coach changes that
  • The one question that is at the heart of every self-compassion practice

225/ When Burnout Becomes a Medical Emergency: One PA's Healing Journey to Peace [ with Alex Pujol ]31 Mar 202600:42:47

Hi nurse, If you have ever told yourself I am fine while everything inside you was screaming otherwise — this episode is for you.

Today's guest is Alexander Pujol — former physician assistant, founder of Quantum Human Performance, and one of the most courageously honest voices in the healthcare wellness space. Alex spent years working in high-pressure medical environments, carrying the weight of patient care, professional responsibility, and relentless people-pleasing without ever stopping to ask what it was costing him.

What began as chronic stress quietly progressed into severe burnout. Severe burnout led to prolonged sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation spiraled into paranoia and psychosis. And that downward spiral ultimately culminated in a suicide attempt — a moment that forced a complete reckoning with how disconnected Alex had become from his own body, his emotions, and his sense of self.

But that is not where his story ends.

Through ongoing therapy, nervous system regulation, emotional healing, and the kind of deep inner work that requires more courage than any shift he ever worked, Alex rebuilt his life from the inside out. Today he combines his clinical expertise with his lived experience to help high-performing athletes and leaders sustain success without sacrificing their health or their humanity — using neuroscience-based holistic wellness strategies with a powerful emphasis on emotional regulation and mindset training.

In this episode, Shan and Alex go deep on the realities of healthcare burnout that nobody talks about — and the pathway through that actually works.

223/ People Pleasing is Stressful- Make This Simple Shift [ Breathe & Be Still Series]20 Mar 202600:09:34
Hi Nurse friend, Today is another episode in the Breathe and Be Still Series. Take these few minutes with me to break up with the identity of being a people pleaser- because it's stressful and you don't like it anyway- and breathe in your true identity. Then put this breath prayer in your back pocket for those days you feel the people pleasing tendencies are creeping back. Say the breath prayer while at the hand wash station, in the restroom, in the linen closet, making the patients bed, in the car before shift or before walking in your home. Just take the 30 seconds (or 3 minutes) to breathe in grace, speak truth and reset your mind. Today's breath prayer is from Colossians 3:23-24: INHALE: I work for you, Lord EXHALE: Your approval is enough. Shalom Shalom,

221/ What Actually IS Burnout & How to Beat It: Part 110 Mar 202600:21:27

Hi Nurse friend, Are you a burnt out nurse — or quietly headed there? In this episode of Beat Nurse Burnout, holistic life coach and Christian nurse coach Shan Wright breaks down exactly what burnout is, why it is so widespread in healthcare, and how chronic stress and nervous system dysregulation are showing up in your body, your home, and your relationships right now.

If you have ever told yourself "I'm just tired" or "this is just what nursing is" — this episode was made for you.

In this episode you will learn:

  • Why burnout is not a personal failure — it is a classified workplace syndrome affecting millions of nurses
  • The rocket engine metaphor that explains exactly how your body signals burnout before it shuts down
  • The "personal pulse" concept from Dr. Jacinta Jimenez's The Burnout Fix and how nurses can apply it holistically
  • The 4 ways burnout commonly shows up — distance, conflict, over-functioning, and projection — with real nurse life examples
  • How chronic stress leads to chronic inflammation — and why your health issues may be rooted in unmanaged burnout
  • Why admitting you are burned out is the first act of courageous recovery — not failure
  • What to do right now to begin resetting your nervous system before part 2

220/ The Hidden Grief of Nurses: How Cumulative Loss Leads to Burnout (And a Soul Care Reset) : with Christine Vaughn Davies03 Mar 202600:38:27

Hi Nurse friend, In this powerful episode, I’m joined by hospital chaplain and spiritual director Christine Vaughn Davies to talk about the hidden grief nurses carry every day.

We explore how grief in nurses often goes unrecognized — from patient loss and moral distress to cumulative grief and compassion fatigue. Over time, this unprocessed grief compounds, contributing to nurse burnout, emotional exhaustion, and spiritual depletion.

In this conversation, we discuss:

  • The different types of grief healthcare workers experience
  • How cumulative loss impacts your nervous system and emotional health
  • The connection between grief, burnout, and compassion fatigue
  • What “soul care” really means for nurses
  • How to do a simple Soul Care Audit
  • Practical ways to care for your grief as the caregiver

If you’re a nurse feeling overwhelmed, emotionally numb, or carrying the weight of your shifts home, this episode will help you name what you’re experiencing — and begin healing.

Because tending to your grief isn’t weakness. It’s essential soul care for sustainable nursing. 🤍

219/ Carrying It Home? How to Release Emotional Stress After a Nursing Shift (Without Talking It Out)24 Feb 202600:23:31

Hi Nurse friend, Today, we're diving into a request from one of our listeners that I know so many of you will relate to. By the way, I love when listeners request topics. You can always message me feedback on an episode, questions or requests on instagram @theshanwright or email hello@theshanwright.com

She wrote: "I find I struggle with releasing sadness or tension after a tough shift because I can't really talk it out. Either HIPAA or my partner doesn't understand - so I just shove it down and move into mom role."

Oh friend, if you're listening - thank you for your vulnerability. And to everyone else nodding along right now, I see you. This is so relatable!! The weight doesn't disappear just because you can't talk about it. It settles in your shoulders, your jaw, your chest. And over time, that shoving down becomes a pattern that disconnects us from ourselves, from God, and from the very people we love.

Today, we're going to talk about sacred, practical ways to release what you carry - ways that honor HIPAA, honor your family, and most importantly, honor you.

I have 4 ways that will care for you holistically. Would love to hear which one you will try over in our community group: Holistic Care for Nurses

Hi Nurse friend, In this powerful episode, I sit down with Dr. Kate Davis, Functional Medicine doctor and gut health expert, to unpack the real connection between stress, burnout, and chronic gut issues—especially for nurses and healthcare professionals living in survival mode.

After battling nearly a decade of chronic gut symptoms herself—only to discover a massive parasite infection at the root—Dr. Kate now helps women heal from constipation, bloating, IBS, acid reflux, and persistent digestive distress by addressing the true root cause.

If you’re a burnt out nurse, constantly stressed, struggling with bloating after shifts, irregular digestion, brain fog, or exhaustion no matter how “clean” you eat—this episode is for you.

This conversation is for the nurse who feels inflamed, overwhelmed, and dismissed—and is ready for a root cause, science-backed path to healing.

If you’ve been searching for answers around nurse burnout, gut health, IBS, stress-related digestive issues, parasite infections, functional medicine for nurses, and root cause healing, don’t miss this one.

217/ Want to Feel Less Burnt Out? Get Rooted in Love [ Breathe & Be Still Series]13 Feb 202600:12:28

Hi Nurse friend,

February. The month when the world celebrates love with cards, chocolates, and flowers. But for so many nurses in the trenches of burnout, love feels like something we give away but never quite know how to receive. We pour ourselves out shift after shift, caring for everyone but ourselves, all while a quiet voice whispers we're not quite enough. Not worthy enough. Not deserving enough.

But today, I want to remind you of the most profound truth that exists: God's love for you isn't based on your productivity. It's not earned by your perfect charting or how many extra shifts you picked up. His love isn't measured by how many lives you saved or how well you held it together when everything was falling apart.

God's love for you is unconditional. Unfathomable. Unrelenting. Unmeasureable. Amazing.

And it's already yours.

In this season when we're surrounded by messages about love, I want us to breathe in the deepest love of all—the love that sees you completely, knows you fully, and calls you beloved without condition. Inhale: LOVE , Exhale: UNWORTHINESS - with me for 3 minutes.

Shalom Shalom,

Shan

216/ When Pain Numbs Pleasure: How Burnout, the Nervous System, and the Brain Affect Intimacy [with Honey Hull, NP]10 Feb 202600:38:44

Hi Nurse friend, What happens when chronic pain, burnout, and nervous system dysregulation start stealing your ability to feel — not just physically, but emotionally and intimately?

In this powerful episode, I sit down with Honey Hull, NP, a pain and sex coach who understands firsthand what it’s like to live in a body shaped by stress, trauma, and exhaustion. Honey shares her personal story of burnout and chronic pain, and how it led her to explore the deep connection between the brain, body, and nervous system. Honey Hull is a Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Coach, and the founder of Small Steps Equals Big Changes. She has a unique and vital specialty: helping people with chronic pain have better sex.

After experiencing her own burnout working in high-volume pain clinics, Honey realized that pills and procedures weren't enough to heal the whole person. She now uses a holistic approach to help clients gently retrain their pain pathways, turning down the body's 'false alarm' signals. Honey is dedicated to helping you move past fear so you can rediscover safety, connection, and pleasure in your body. In this episode, Honey offers practical, compassionate tools to restore body trust, improve sexual intimacy, and elevate overall quality of life — especially for nurses and healthcare professionals living under chronic stress.

215/ Burnout as a Nurse & Identity NOT as a Nurse [ with Lacey Conner]03 Feb 202600:46:20

Hey Nurse friend, Today, I’m sharing a conversation I had with Lacey Conner on her podcast: Image Bearers. We have a casual conversation about nurse burnout and identity. We talk about how burnout show up in our lives, differently and the way God led us both to using our skills and expertise in nursing in our current season of life. Lacey is a mom to 4, RN and host of the podcast, Image Bearers. She is using the podcast to glorify God by sitting down with people and their story. Because we are made in the image of God, we have bestowed worth and dignity. She is wanting people to feel like they are seen, heard, and loved. To love another person is to see the face of God and I believe this to be true. Wherever you are in your nursing journey, I believe this conversation with shed light on how you can live out your identity with less stress. Shalom Shalom,

214/ Lies You Believe About Burnout Weight and Your Body, PLUS The Truth For Holistic Freedom [ Part 2: Ondrea Lynn]27 Jan 202600:31:48

Welcome back to Beat Nurse Burnout.

In Part 1, we heard Ondrea Lynn’s powerful testimony of trauma, spiritual searching, and finding true freedom in Jesus. Today, we’re continuing the conversation — and we’re going to talk about something deeply relevant to so many nurses:

The connection between burnout, stress, and our bodies.

If you’re a nurse who has: -Gained weight during years of high stress or night shifts -Used food, alcohol, or sugar to cope after hard days -Felt disconnected from your body after pregnancy or trauma -Or wondered why willpower alone never seems to work This episode is for you.

As nurses, we know this intellectually: Chronic stress → cortisol dysregulation → emotional eating → metabolic changes. But knowing the science doesn’t always heal the pattern.

What Ondrea discovered — and what she now teaches — is that lasting physical transformation must begin spiritually. When the nervous system calms, identity is restored, and coping shifts from survival to surrender, the body finally feels safe enough to change.

Ondrea is a speaker and author of the book, ‘The Christian Women’s Weight Loss Victory Plan (How to Defeat the Enemy and Transform Your Body).’ Ondrea has helped thousands of women reach their personal health and wellness goals and improve their physical and nutritional health, as well as their emotional and spiritual well-being. She is a graduate of the Institute of Integrated Nutrition, affiliated with the Teachers College at Columbia University, some of her certifications include, NASM fitness trainer, behavioral change specialist, and self-sabotage coach. Her efforts in health & wellness have been featured in an article and on the cover of Woman’s World Magazine. She appeared as a personal trainer on Lifetime television’s Mission Makeover. Her ‘Christian Women’s Weight Loss’ podcast is currently ranking top 3% globally. Ondrea is passionate about helping Christian women lose weight and gain health so they can rise up in the Kingdom and take action on the assignment God has called them to do.

213/ Why You’re Still Exhausted Even When You Rest: The 3 Hidden Fatigues Nurses Carry20 Jan 202600:31:23

Hey friend, Today we're talking about something I know you're feeling — that bone-deep exhaustion that doesn't go away with a day off or even a vacation.

If you're a nurse or caregiver who keeps showing up, keeps performing, keeps pushing through... but inside you're running on empty? This episode is for you.

We're diving into three types of fatigue that are slowly draining your body, overwhelming your mind, and leading you straight toward burnout: Compassion Fatigue, Decision Fatigue, and High-Functioning Fatigue.

And here's what I want you to know upfront: Fatigue is a warning sign. It's your body's check engine light. And today, we're going to talk about what's really happening physiologically, why you can't just push through it, and most importantly — how to recover with faith-based, holistic practices that actually work.

So grab your coffee, settle in, and let's get real about what's going on in your body. Shalom Shalom,

Xx, Shan

212/ Burnt Out and Spiritually Empty: A Real Journey from Trauma to True Healing [ Part 1: with Ondrea Lynn]13 Jan 202600:29:58

Hi Sweet friend,

Today’s episode is tender, powerful, and real. If you’re a nurse or healthcare professional who has been:

  • Spiritually curious but still searching
  • Carrying unhealed trauma beneath a capable exterior
  • Exploring “spiritual things” but feeling unsettled or empty
  • Or quietly wondering if there’s more to faith than what you’ve experienced

This conversation is for you.

My guest today, Ondrea Lynn, courageously shares her story — one marked by sexual and emotional trauma, deep spiritual hunger, and a long road of searching for healing in all the wrong places. Like so many helpers, she wanted relief. She wanted peace. She wanted freedom from the pain she carried in her body and soul.

But the paths she took — including occult practices and counterfeit spiritual solutions — only left her more bound… until she encountered Jesus.

And as nurses, we are often exposed to suffering, death, and spiritual questions daily — yet we rarely have space to talk about our own souls. This episode gently invites you to pause and ask:

What am I actually seeking? And where am I going to find it?

Whether you’re listening for yourself, or because you know someone who needs this testimony,  I pray this story meets you exactly where you are.

Shalom Shalom,

Xx, Shan

211/ How to Choose Rest, Not Survival [Breathe & Be Still Series]09 Jan 202600:13:23

Hi Nurse friend, What if you made this the year of REST. What if you looked at the new year as an opportunity to come out of survival mode.

Nursing trains us to survive. Push through. Power on. Handle it. Keep going.

And while survival may get you through a shift, it is not meant to be your way of life.

God did not create you to live in constant urgency. He created you for peace.

Survival mode keeps your nervous system on high alert. It tells your body that danger is everywhere. That slowing down isn’t safe. That rest can wait.

Rest is not a reward for finishing everything. Rest is an invitation.

And choosing rest doesn’t mean you stop caring. It means you stop abandoning yourself and actually care for you.

So today’s breath prayer is simple — and powerful. It's based on the verse....

“He makes me lie down in green pastures; He restores my soul.” — Psalm 23:2–3

Let’s take one deep inhale… And a long, slow exhale. Inhale peace… Exhale tension. 3 min : Inhale: I choose rest. Exhale: Not survival.

Press play on this episode and breathe with me.

Shalom Shalom,

Xx, Shan

Hey there, beautiful soul. I am so grateful you're here for our final episode of 2025. Can you believe it? Another year is coming to a close, and today we're going to do something really special together.

We're not just going to recap the year—we're going to reflect on it in a way that will actually propel you forward into 2026 with intention, clarity, and renewed energy. Because here's the thing: reflection isn't just about looking back. It's about mining your experiences for gold, for wisdom nuggets, for those insights that help you grow into the woman, the mother, the caregiver, the person you're meant to be. In this episode we work through 4 main questions (plus a BONUS):

  • What worked in 2025?
  • What didn't work?
  • What do I need more of? Less of?
  • When did I feel most like myself?

Action Steps to take:

  • Title your 2025 with a main title and subtitle
  • Complete your Energy Audit (draw line, list energy-givers and energy-drainers)
  • Decide what you're taking into 2026
  • Make a plan to increase energy producers
  • Set goals to eliminate or manage energy drainers

As a gift to you, I am offering to work though any of those action steps together! Book for your complimentary session today!

206/ Stressed & on Autopilot? 4 Hidden Ways It’s Hijacking Your Holidays!09 Dec 202500:27:58

Hey Mama friend, You know what's stressful most Christmases?? Gift giving!! But does it have to be?? I did an amazing episode with author, Jenna Michael last year- Check out episode #125 if you are feeling that stress. Now the reason it can be stressful is because when we are in high pressure situations- the deadline of Christmas day- we go into autopilot. These are our natural ways to function for our nervous system to protect and keep our bodies safe. BUT- just because it's natural, doesn't mean it's GOOD. I want to talk about the 4 ways anxiety shows up in a very busy season- like Christmas and what to do about it.

So today, I'm going to help you identify YOUR specific autopilot anxiety response, and then I'm going to give you five practical ways to disrupt it and respond better—even in the middle of the Christmas crazy.

In this episode:

  • The 4 autopilot anxiety responses: conflict, distance, over/under-functioning, projection
  • 5 steps to disrupt your anxiety patterns
  • The Know/Do prayer framework
  • The Courageous Faith Method
  • How to honor your word through the 4-step integrity process

205/ Emmanuel, With Me in the Stress [ Breathe & Be Still Series ]05 Dec 202500:10:21

Hey Nurse friend, Take a deep breath. You made it here, and that alone shows how much your soul is craving a moment of peace.

If you are listening as a nurse who is exhausted—emotionally, physically, spiritually—I want you to know this: You are not alone. You’re not failing. And your feelings are valid.

Christmas can feel heavy when you’re the one holding everyone else together. But today, you get to be held.

This breath prayer is your reset. A moment to slow down, reconnect, and remember the truth: Emmanuel—God with us. God with you.

Wherever you are—maybe driving home from a shift, on your couch, or getting ready for work—let your shoulders soften. Unclench your jaw.Feel your breath settle.

Let’s take one deep inhale… And a long, slow exhale.

Again… Inhale peace… Exhale tension.

Your nervous system is safe here. Your body is allowed to rest here. verse:

In Matthew 1:23 it says: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and They will call Him Emmanuel, which means God with us.”

Talk to God in this time- make this your prayer. Notice what thoughts come in these 3 minutes, what feelings arise, what each word feels like as it comes out of your mouth. Meditate on these words. If possible, place one hand on your heart. 3 min : Inhale: Emmanuel Exhale: You are with me Please share this episode with everyone who needs a little more peace this season! 🩵

202/ The Hidden Stress You Don’t See (But Your Body Feels Every Day)18 Nov 202500:23:22

Hi Sweet Caregiver! Today, we're talking about decisions. Or more specifically, unmade decisions.

You know that feeling when you walk into your closet and see those three bags of clothes you've been meaning to donate for six months? Or when you open your email and there are 47 unread messages staring back at you? Or when you stand in front of the pantry at 5 PM, absolutely paralyzed about what to make for dinner... again?

That feeling? That's your stress bucket overflowing.

And here's what most of us don't realize: every unmade decision in your life is actively adding stress to your body. Right now. As we speak.

Today, I want to share with you how unmade decisions are literally keeping your nervous system in a state of chronic stress, what the science says about this, what the Bible teaches us through the story of Jonah, and most importantly—how knowing your core values can help you make decisions that actually reduce stress instead of creating more.

So grab your coffee, settle in, and let's talk about how we can start emptying that stress bucket, one decision at a time.

Shalom Shalom,

Xx, Shan
