He first joined us on episode 127 and then again on episode 143 during which he discussed a masterful gem he threw against the Boston Red Sox as he outdueled Pedro Martinez. In this appearance we discuss the game he pitched on August 26, 2005 as he returned to the rotation after an injury and beat the San Francisco Giants 1-0. Chef Jason Morse aka Chef J had his first experience grilling and smoking meats when he was a Boy Scout. His passion was further stoked during childhood visits to the Hawaiian island of Kauai, where his grandfather served in the U.S. Army, exposing him to a culture that honors fire-smoked cuisine. As a teenager, Jason was frying up tortillas at a Mexican restaurant and honing his knife skills at a steakhouse in the suburbs of Minnesota. Jason then pursued a culinary degree at Johnson & Wales University. Chef J serves as Ace Hardware’s national chef spokesperson and BBQ expert. He also runs a culinary consulting business, 5280 Culinary. He has led Colorado Proud campaign initiatives to promote the quality of locally produced meats and agriculture. Patrick Montgomery, Author of Baseball's Great Expectations and Barbecue Hall of Famer, Ray Lampe AKA Dr. BBQ, Plus Guest Co-host, Doug Scheiding
Episode 235
samedi 20 avril 2024 • Duration 01:53:29
Patrick Montgomery, Author of Baseball's Great Expectations and Barbecue Hall of Famer, Ray Lampe AKA Dr. BBQ, Plus Guest Co-host, Doug Scheiding
Patrick Montgomery is an award-winning writer. His latest book is Baseball's Great Expectations: Candid Stories of Ballplayers Who Didn't Live Up to the Hype. The book examines nine players who were once poised for greatness, but as the title clearly states, for whatever reason, their playing careers never reached the levels predicted. Revealed ls an often-overlooked side of professional baseball; the struggles with injury, mental exhaustion, pressure, temptations, and sometimes just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. We often read books which extol successes, but Patrick shows how difficult that success can be to achieve.
Ray Lampe AKA Dr. BBQ has been a lover of barbecue since entering his first rib contest in 1982. He quit the family trucking business after 25 years to become a full-time pit-master,but spent 15 years testing different barbequing styles and participating in cookout competitions before making barbecue his full-time career. Inducted into the Barbecue Hall of Fame in 2014, Ray is the author of numerous cookbooks, a judge on many televised cooking shows, a winner of numerous cooking competitions, and a restaurateur. He has witnessed and been a part of the surge in barbecue's enormous growth and popularity and shares these many stories. We are joined by guest co-host, Doug Scheiding.
We conclude the show with the song, Baseball Always Brings You Home from the musician, Dave Dresser and the poet, Shel Krakofsky.

Matt Abdoo from Pig Beach BBQ, Ray Negron from the New York Yankees, and John Fuhrman, Founder of Bubb'n Mutha's Makes This Another Huge Triple Play Episode
Episode 234
samedi 13 avril 2024 • Duration 02:19:31
Matt Abdoo from Pig Beach BBQ, Ray Negron from the New York Yankees, and John Fuhrman, founder of Bubb'n Mutha's makes this another huge triple episode.
Matt Abdoo is the executive chef and partner of Pig Beach BBQ and he joins us to discuss the 4th annual Jeff Michner Foundation BBQ Benefit taking place at Pig Beach in Queens, New York on Saturday, April 27, 2024. Jeff Michner was Matt's brother-in-law and he passed away at the age of 36, leaving behind his wife Sara, and his 16-month-old daughter Hayes. A foundation was created in Jeff's honor to keep his memory alive. The organization embraces the things he loved best: family, friends, and great food. The Jeff Michner Foundation supports families managing loss and grief and provides scholarships to graduating high school students with a love for cooking and golf, two of Jeff’s biggest passions in life. The Jeff Michner BBQ Benefit celebrates Jeff with an epic barbecue featuring some of the countries greatest pitmasters. Go to https://www.pigbeachnyc.com/events/ for more information.
Ray Negron is an executive in the New York Yankees organization. His position with the Yankees is impressive, but the story of how he achieved all of his success is incredible. It is a story based on someone taking a chance on Ray when he was behaving badly and could have ended up in jail, but instead this person offered Ray a job as the Yankees batboy. That moment changed not only Ray's life, but possibly, as you will hear Ray tell, the lives of many other people. The someone who took the chance on Ray was George Steinbrenner AKA "The Boss" and the storis Ray tells about Mr. Steinbrenner and the entire Yankees organization, which he has been a part of for the last 50 years, is fascinating and heart-warming. For more information on Ray Negron go to https://theraynegronstory.com/index.html
John Fuhrman is the founder of Bubb'n Mutha's which manufactures premium spice rub blends. After serving in the United States Navy, John, worked in the auto industry and ended up in North Carolina. While there he fell in love with barbecue and learned how to cook it and experimented with different spices and rubs. John returned to Maine and started this company, making his products with special real Maine ingredients like organic blueberry powder, maple crystals and even Raye’s Mustard which is the oldest mustard company in America. John is always looking to help fellow military veterans and hires veterans from the area so they can earn a quality living, get training and keep their families there. For more information on John or to order their products go to https://www.bub-n-muthas.com/
