Alaska is one of the most breathtaking cruise destinations on the planet — and we love it. But after digging into the science behind the August 2025 Tracy Arm event, where a 64-million cubic metre landslide sent a wave nearly 500 metres up a fjord wall, we realized this story never got the attention it deserved. No passengers were harmed — but only because no boats were in the fjord that morning. Researchers have since identified this as the second-highest tsunami runup ever recorded, and yet the cruise industry response was quiet and slow.
