Pre-Game Show: Final Destination29 Sep 202600:22:30
Death has a boarding pass and a sense of humor. This Friday we kick off spooky season with the movie that turned everyday objects into murder weapons: Final Destination (2000). A teen has a vision of a plane exploding, yanks his friends off the flight… and then Death starts collecting. Elaborate “accidents.” Rube Goldberg kill scenes. Ali Larter. Tony Todd’s voice of doom. The question isn’t if someone’s next. It’s how stupid the next chain reaction will look. On this episode: Stephanie’s official monthly-rotation comeback, Brian, and Jessie Hurst returning for the first time since Episode 9 (The Fifth Element). We watch the trailer, argue body counts, guess who actually walks away, and try not to get judged in the post-game. Go watch it first if you can — it’s on HBO Max right now (or $4 to rent). You’ll have more fun roasting the deaths with us. Episode drops Friday. Pregame is already live. Post-game breakdown lives on Patreon only. See you on the other side of the explosion. Mailbag: A Raccoon Just Surrendered to My Dog28 Sep 202600:49:23
James, Clint, and Ryan open another BMR mailbag and immediately hire a guy who sent a resume they can’t open. Jesse Rubin gets fired from Publix, attaches an Apple Pages file, then saves himself with juice samples and walks out as Jesse Juice. Jesse Snyder praises the new mailbag guitar riff and launches a full chaps vs. ass-chaps debate courtesy of Terminal Velocity. Sean from Jefferson City says the show actually improved his mood. Ryan drops a spoiler-free take on the new Resident Evil. Special Ed Fred requests an emotional-support hotline and almost doxxes himself. Clint recaps Ginger Man / 24 Hours of LeMans (2nd in class) and points everyone to the shirtless car-wash clip. Mike Goede admits he voted Vertical Limit then buried it in awards, hopes for a 2027 calendar, and says the movies have become a family thing. Bill Gerson floats the forgotten Mr. T series T and T. A Des Moines caller describes a raccoon that nodded at him and fled a pitbull. Greg from New Jersey hits Rad Day, the Transformers 40th, and pitches Mean Guns. Adam writes in after a breakup and the table actually shows up for him. Rocker demands a Kent, Washington roast and gets Amazon warehouses and Ernie’s Fuel Stop. Trapper Dave offers to drop a raccoon in the studio. James counters with the Grass Lake Road garbage-can raccoon and a scuba air rifle. #281 Terror Squad (1987): Unhinged Terrorists in Indiana?!25 Sep 202602:14:26
Terror Squad (1987) takes four terrorists, a nuclear plant, and the entire town of Kokomo, Indiana, and somehow still finds time for detention, aerobics, and a car chase that will not end. Chuck Connors is the chief of police. High schoolers are doing Breakfast Club in a boiler room. Somebody brought an RPG to a cornfield. And yes — the bus changes size mid-movie and they thought you wouldn’t notice. James, Ryan, Curt, and Dave tear through Peter Maris’s only-in-the-80s pileup: Death-to-America cold open, hot-dog-bun recon, grocery-guy stunt work, harmonica timing, homemade crossbows, and the longest white-sedan demolition derby Kokomo ever paid for. Awards. Recasts. The one scene that made the whole table lose it. Patreon votes in the mix. If you like practical explosions, plans that last 20 feet, and small-town cop movies that forget what town they’re in — this is the one. Got a correction, a voicemail, or a theory about where they got the second RPG? Mailbag: This Raccoon Story Ends at the ER21 Sep 202600:46:02
Curt Mummer drops in with a $40 bottle of chocolate banana Fanta that tastes like a plumber’s aftertaste, a two-year-old wrapped around a banana, and the paper wrapper on a Tootsie Roll. Nobody likes it. Everybody respects the bit. The table also gets a last-minute Chuck Norris Karate Commandos figure (stache era, no beard, full mullet), a “You Should Leave” horror welcome sign from Kerry Ahern (Freddy, Ghostface, Chucky — welcome crossed out), and three movies in the mail: Cronenberg’s Shivers and Videodrome plus Gregory Hines in White Nights. Then the BMRmy unloads: David from New Hampshire lets his dogs out and a raccoon runs across his bare feet, hisses from the railing, and leaves a five-inch scratch that turns into six rabies shots and a scar. The table immediately offers competing raccoon stories, a chipmunk bite, attic babies, and one shotgun-in-the-neighborhood tale. Vickie calls from the UK with box three incoming — prawn cocktail crisps, biscuits, and something special for James. Michael Bjork congratulates Grandpa James, finally says something nice about Bob (it only took Teen Wolf), drops werewolf lore (full moon and silver arrived late), and asks about the competition and We Can Do It Better. Matt clocks that High Chief Peter Maivia — The Rock’s grandfather — was the henchman and the fight choreographer in You Only Live Twice. Die Another Episode gets another vote. Uncle Nasty writes in about missing The Prophecy awards, a brother who kept alligators in the bathtub, and a real mental-health check. The table stops being idiots for a minute and tells him to stay. Bradley Great Scott calls in with Lessons From Bad Movies (Cool as Ice, Rad, American Ninja, Masters of the Universe, Garbage Pail Kids, Hard to Kill, Surviving the Game). Trapper Dave offers to source a raccoon. Art from Chicago IDs Chomp the Snapper in Humboldt Park and gives Madeline an Alaska timing warning. Dwayne from Tennessee insists burning the house in Vampires just makes them a cocoon. The guys disagree. Loudly. Same contacts as always. Same chaos. Send more. #280 Terminal Velocity (1994): The Best Skydiving Movie of the 90s?18 Sep 202602:47:00
Charlie Sheen is Ditch Brodie: Olympic gymnast, flying penis, and the only skydiving instructor who thinks “I hooked her in like I always do” is a solid alibi. Nastassja Kinski shows up wanting lessons and immediately vanishes mid-flight. James Gandolfini plays the world’s least convincing deputy DA. Christopher McDonald (Shooter McGavin himself) brings rubber gloves, a knife for a business card, and enough intensity to win the Will Patton award in a landslide. Joe, Rachel, and Dr. Ryan Mattila join James for a full scene-by-scene roast of this Point Break knockoff that Hollywood built around stunts first and a plot later. Expect dummy bounces that look like MythBusters rejects, a Cadillac driven out the back of a plane, night jumps into silos, a rocket car that has never been tested, and more one-liners than a movie like this has any right to deliver. Is it a good movie? Is it a bad movie that rules? The table is split. The patrons who voted it in are even more split. We talk gymnastics backstory that nobody needed, gold bars on a commercial flight, windmills in canyons, and why you should never send gold in the mail. September Patreon push is on — extra shows going out for free so you can see what you’re missing. Strap in. We’re going terminal. You Only Live Twice (1967) - Die Another Episode15 Sep 202602:07:53
Entire episode is free as part of our annual Patreon Push. We wanted you to hear what you may be missing by not being a member, enjoy! We are going movie by movie through the James Bond franchise. patreon.com/badmoviesrule.com Connery’s fifth outing as 007 was supposed to be the big send-off. Instead we get a bored Sean, a Roald Dahl script that treats the novel like a travel brochure, and the first time we actually see Blofeld’s face (Donald Pleasence, piranha pool, emotional-support cat and all). James fakes his own death, gets shot out of a torpedo tube, immediately gets clocked in a Tokyo alley, watches sumo, busts through paper walls, fights The Rock’s grandpa with a couch, slides into Tanaka’s secret underground office, flies Little Nellie, trains as a ninja, and storms a hollowed-out volcano while America and Russia keep losing spaceships to a giant rocket-eating spacecraft. Three Bond girls (Aki, Helga, Kissy), zero convertibles Bond can actually fit in, and a whole lot of “why does this six-foot Scotsman think he’s blending in?” We recap the whole messy, spectacular, strangely slow ride, hand out the Will Patton Intensity, Best Henchman, Best Bond Girl and Best Death awards, and try to figure out why a movie with ninjas, a volcano lair and piranhas still somehow feels like it’s missing some of that classic Bond-ness. Next month we jump to George Lazenby and On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. For now, come hang in the volcano with us. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Mailbag: Chuck Norris, Carolina Reapers & the Will Patton Trophy14 Sep 202601:10:31
The BMRmy showed up with the goods this week. Erin Miller sends an Ernest festival poster AND a kicking Chuck Norris Karate Commandos figure. Bill McFucherCakes ships a Teen Wolf Beavers #42 jersey that is going on the wall. James from sticky Nashville gifts Carolina Reaper jerky and we eat it on camera. Then the night shift opens a package from Wyoming and a physical 3D-printed Will Patton Award hits the table. Studio is getting decorated. Reverse Mailbag is getting closer. Cora settles the Toledo War with the tragic tale of Lucky the Mule. Brian Austin updates alligator anatomy and issues a PSA: do not vape during BMR. Kurt from Salt Lake City names James’s least favorite driving situation a Mormon roadblock. Stephen proposes a new review segment with very specific rules involving five-year-olds, a gymnasium door, ducks, and one duck the size of a horse. Matt Mulholland demands Teen Wolf 3: The Reckoning. Drew Parks describes the morning a six-foot alligator used its tail as a doorbell. Plus Oscar for Tim Curry, Vampires vs. James Woods, a Disney vacation that involved a man o’ war AND fire ants, and someone trying to start beef with Samurai Movie Jam. Reach out. We want the stories, the hauls, the unhinged theories. #279 The Prophecy (1995): Did Critics Get it Wrong?11 Sep 202602:03:42
This week James, Chuck, Nicole, and Clint take on Gregory Widen’s 1995 supernatural oddity The Prophecy. Christopher Walken perches on furniture like a vulture, licks crime scenes, rips out hearts, and chews garlic the entire shoot so the other actors stay properly repulsed. Viggo Mortensen shows up barefoot as Lucifer. Eric Stoltz plays a beautiful hobo angel. A little girl starts drawing Korean War atrocities after a very uncomfortable soul transfer. Heaven’s closed. Hell’s always open. Even on Christmas. Is this a theological train wreck? Are the angel rules completely made up? Why does nobody in this movie know how to sit in a chair? We recast Arnold, hand out awards, and try to decide whether Walken single-handedly saves a movie that keeps forgetting to explain itself. Pick a side. The war’s already started. MAILBAG: Raccoon Blood, Alligator Ass & a Rhinoceros Pencil07 Sep 202601:15:02
The first mailbag of September is here and the BMRmy showed up heavy. James, Clint, and Ryan kick things off with Great Outdoors leftover emails, a Battlefield Earth marriage update, teen-vs-adult movie letdowns, and a Christmas movie rec that almost qualifies. Then the voicemails get unhinged: a raccoon-and-parasite survival story that takes a hard left into blood cravings, Deadliest Warrior identified at last, Toto singing the Gummi Bears theme, bear-wrangling movie magic, Reggie the Long Beach alligator, and a Kansas highway tire that nearly ended a family road trip. Joe and Rachel take the night shift and rip through 15 packages. Movies pour in (Mannequin, the full Smokey and the Bandit run, Time Bandits, Yellowbeard, Gung Ho, Cooties, the complete Ash vs Evil Dead, Saturday Night Fever + Stayin’ Alive). Christian ships South African chips and wors from across the ocean. Someone gifts a factory-sealed Steven Seagal CD featuring “Alligator Ass” and “Talk to My Ass.” Joe gets a commissioned portrait and an Ace Ventura rhinoceros pencil sharpener. Jimmy White drops They Live, Phantom, Flash Gordon figures, a Packers Transformer, and Mass Effect N7 shot glasses. Plus: the Patreon push toward 1,000 (calendar), 1,050 (host trading cards), and 1,100 (Bob care package + reverse mailbag videos). #278 Teen Wolf (1985): Did Critics Get It Wrong?04 Sep 202602:22:27
Patron Jim D hand-picked this one and the crew, so the pressure is on. Michael J. Fox turns into a basketball werewolf in the most 1985 movie ever made, and James, Joe, Bob, and Curt are here to ride the Wolfmobile straight through it. We break down the free-throw panic, the locker-room “changes,” van surfing with sandpaper on the roof, the liquor-store keg heist, Seven Minutes in Heaven gone feral, a dad who is the cutest werewolf alive, a dance that invents “The Wolf,” and a championship game that somehow still has referees. Also: red rockets, Beavers, breakdancers who don’t go to this school, and whether Pamela actually wanted the wolf. Plus Arnold recasts, the awards (intensity, trash-can performance, one-scene wonder, best supporting), and the official BMR verdict… which we will not spoil here. Due to Jim D. Come howl with us. We’re pushing for 1,000 patrons by October 15. Calendar, trading cards, and Bob’s care package are on the line. Douglas Tait: Jason, Michael Myers, and the Sasquatch01 Sep 202600:45:00
Douglas Tait has worn two of horror’s most famous masks and still answers to Sasquatch. The actor/stuntman/creature performer talks growing up on classic monsters, landing the final Jason scene in Freddy vs. Jason, doubling Michael Myers, surviving brutal suit days, and directing his own thriller Angel Baby. Plus Zathura practical effects, Grimm’s Zerstörer, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, and a few jobs so dumb he still can’t believe he cashed the check. Mailbag: Dolly, Tim Curry & Killer Donuts31 Aug 202601:20:46
The mailbag is still going. We’re doing this till we’re 90. James, Clint, and Ryan kick off with a quick tribute after losing Dolly Parton and Tim Curry in the same stretch — both at 80. Then it’s voicemails, emails, road-trip disasters, and the usual “please stop breaking the One Scene Wonder award” energy. You’ll hear: Why Raising Cane’s and Bojangles turn you into a liar Movie pitches that include a T-Rex pastor, a killer sofa, a llama at a house party, and Attack of the Killer Donuts Loose Cannons… and the plot device nobody should lead with Kid puke stories that somehow get worse Minnesota gators, a basement baby alligator, and an elevator that tries to murder a family An Ace Ventura 2 extra story that turns into a set-etiquette debate HR emailing about the awards counter (again) Ohio discourse that will not die Why the show works even when the movie doesn’t Day shift hands it to the night shift. #277 John Carpenter's Vampires (1998): Did Critics Get It Wrong?28 Aug 202602:09:52
John Carpenter’s Vampires (1998) storms the Bad Movies Rule table after Dwayne from Tennessee cashed in his Full Dudikoff pick. James Woods leads a Vatican-backed slayer squad that hunts bloodsuckers the hard way: cable-gun, Jeep winch, and enough F-bombs to bless a whole motel. First-time guest Luke joins James, Clint, and Dave as they rip into dirt-nap masters, a 48-hour “romance” that starts with a punch, a priest who won’t stay in his lane, and a plot that keeps inventing new vampire rules just so it can break them. Crosses don’t work. Garlic gets you bent over. And somebody really wants to know who got a boner. Grab a stake and hit play. Mailbag: Michael J. Fox, Geena Davis & Revisiting The Thing24 Aug 202601:02:56
Welcome to the Bad Movies Rule! Mailbag! James is joined by Ryan Mueller and Clint Busch for the day shift, then hands it off to Joe, Curt, and Bob for the night shift package opening. We dig into emails and voicemails from Michael (catching up hard and recommending Double Trouble + Evolution), Johnny Golab (Alabama gator facts + the $2 Spear Hunting Museum), Phil/Barry (praising The Thing, requesting Vampires, and dropping the Paul Orndorff nearly-in-Rambo 2 story), Andrew from Canada (the ultimate “just send the damn email” PSA), Billy from St. Pete (new Discord energy), Jason from Ohio (owning the Toledo War manifesto and clearing the air), the Leeds, Alabama call, Joe’s “F*** Ohio” astronaut theory, Bill’s preview pet peeve (and James’s honest answer), Matt Mulholland’s PB&J alligator and Key West near-miss, Derek/Rick’s introduction + Bitch Slap recommendation, AA Ron’s Great Outdoors Intensity Award case and Weird Science connection, John from the UK’s Mean Guns pitch, DJ Campbell’s bat-in-the-bedroom story, and Matt’s nightmare Disney drive with an 18-month-old. Then the physical mail hits: Mannequin 2, Class of 1984, Frankenhooker, Monty Python’s Flying Circus Series 1, Bad Channels, Cutthroat Island, Vision Quest, and more get added to the BMR Reacts pile. #276 The Great Outdoors - Did Critics Get It Wrong?21 Aug 202602:26:54
This week the crew packs up the station wagon and heads for the Northwoods—except it’s California playing Wisconsin, because of course it is. John Candy and Dan Aykroyd star in this John Hughes-scripted tale of two families, one cabin, and a vacation that goes exactly as well as you’d expect when the uninvited in-laws show up with demonic twins, lobster tails, and a speedboat named Suck My Wake. Expect water-ski disasters, raccoon home invasions, a bear with a very personal grudge, the legendary Old 96er, and more passive-aggressive Midwestern hospitality than any human should endure. Plus the usual BMR awards, fantasy football consequences, and far too many stories about actual family road trips that make this movie look like a relaxing spa weekend. Grab a six-pack of hot dogs and settle in. The critics hated it. The box office hated it. We’re about to find out if the rest of us are just built different. Mailbag: Highlander, Obsession & Ending a War17 Aug 202601:06:14
Mailbag time, BMRmy. Full table for the first half, then the shift change. Packages get opened first: a handwritten letter and bottle opener from Joe, Highlander minis (Kurgan and Connor) all the way from England courtesy of Richard, and a massive restock of British sweets, mint balls, tea cakes, and more from Vicky in Leeds — plus a onesie and a very British sealed letter. James also has some big family news to share. Emails and voicemails cover Bruce Campbell’s My Name Is Bruce, a whole batch of comedy and action suggestions, gator stories, the ongoing “should we do more comedies?” debate, Sam Neill recommendations, a Payback-inspired song from 25 years ago, Chuck Norris nostalgia, restaurant specials, and the usual unhinged fan energy. Ohio somehow becomes a whole thing. Keep sending stuff — thisshowistrash@gmail.com or (262) 757-8567. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
#275 - Alligator (1980): Scene By Scene Riff14 Aug 202602:22:16
Something’s down in the sewers… and it’s not just the usual Chicago (or is it St. Louis?) nonsense. This week James is joined by Mel and first-timer Rachel for a full scene-by-scene rampage through the 1980 animal-attack cult favorite Alligator. A little girl’s pet gator gets flushed, some extremely shady growth-hormone experiments go sideways, and suddenly you’ve got a 40-foot reptile treating the city’s underground like an all-you-can-eat buffet of discarded lab dogs, reporters, SWAT teams, and wedding guests. Robert Forster is pure 1980 cool as the jinxed detective who keeps losing partners. Robin Riker shows up as the skeptical herpetologist (say that three times fast). Michael V. Gazzo’s eyebrows deserve their own credit. Henry Silva arrives ready to hunt. And the practical effects deliver exactly the kind of foam-brick, mannequin-leg, wedding-cake chaos we live for. Plus the usual BMR mayhem: awards, Arnold recasts, personal alligator near-death stories from Hilton Head, and more sewer-level stupidity than any one movie should contain. Patrons picked it. The Discord demanded it. We delivered. Mailbag: Battlefield Earth Ruined My Marriage10 Aug 202601:19:03
The crew is back with another chaotic dump of emails, voicemails, and physical mail. Bob’s chair gets roasted, an Over the Top arm-break memory resurfaces, Ohio tries to defend itself, and one listener drops a marriage crisis over Battlefield Earth. There’s medical horror involving cameras where cameras should never go, racing movie rankings, Watcher Texas Ranger deep cuts, Van Damme impressions that sound suspiciously like Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, a Spaceballs observation, South African snack promises, Danny Trejo intimidation stories, Transformers One praise, a very “Not Stallone” poster, Walt Disney’s mysterious final note, Hardy Boys suggestions, Death Proof talk, and a glorious Garbage Pail Kids card haul. Plus the usual rants about comedies, Tubi, and the never-ending quest to keep the trash pure. Hit play and join the mayhem. #274 Payback (1999):Scene By Scene Riff07 Aug 202601:48:39
Live from Smokey Tony’s in North Carolina: Mel Gibson wants his 70 grand back. James, Charles, and Ryan drove through half the country, cracked open some Cheerwine, and settled in at a public restaurant to riff scene-by-scene through Payback (1999)—the Mel Gibson revenge thriller that somehow became the “family-friendly” choice on the July schedule. What could go wrong? They dig into the alleyway surgery that opens the movie, the “root for the bad guy” marketing (and the Australian poster problem), Val Resnick’s all-time slimeball performance, Lucy Liu’s unforgettable first-film energy, the Outfit vs. Syndicate naming committee, and every terrible decision that somehow still works. Production chaos, reshoots, Kris Kristofferson, James Coburn’s alligator suitcases, and the eternal question of whether anyone in this city will just take Porter seriously for once. Awards, recasts, live crowd energy, and pure BMR mayhem follow. It’s a little dicey, a lot of fun, and exactly the kind of night you only get when the crew takes the show on the road. The Thing (1982) - Good Movies Rule PREVIEW05 Aug 202600:16:43
This is an extended sample from our full 2+ hour discussion on The Thing, and we can't wait to talk about this cult classic. Want the whole thing? Click the link below to become a Patreon supporter! https://www.patreon.com/badmoviesrule The crew finally sits down with John Carpenter’s icy masterpiece — and for one of us, it’s a first-time watch. What starts as a classic Antarctic isolation story quickly turns into a full-on deep dive: practical effects that still hit like a truck 40+ years later, the legendary Rob Bottin/Stan Winston dog sequence, Kurt Russell’s hat (and the whiskey), Wilford Brimley’s diabetes intensity, Keith David’s slow-burn paranoia, and every terrible decision that lets the Thing keep winning. We unpack the Norwegian opening (and why they suck at this), the blood test jump scare, the spider-head “you gotta be fucking kidding me” moment, and that endlessly debated ending. Is Childs the Thing? Is MacReady? Are they both just two frozen, exhausted humans who don’t trust each other? We go down the rabbit hole hard — theories, jacket continuity, kerosene whiskey, the works — while still finding time for awards, Seagal recasts, and the usual chaos. Come hang with the BMRmy for a long, paranoid, practical-effects-loving look at one of the all-time greats. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Mailbag: Ace Ventura Fallout & Sexy Nuts03 Aug 202601:10:38
James, Ryan, and Clint dig into a massive pile of physical mail (including Christopher Lambert, Will Ferrell double features, Nicole Kidman, and a freshly covered Firewalker copy), then nearly die from 1.5-million-Scoville salsa and ghost pepper chips. Curt writes in to address the Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls debate that lit up the comments, sparking a full-table conversation about comedy, subjectivity, and why some movies hit differently. Rachel and Mel jump in for the second half as more packages, voicemails, and emails roll in — racing stories, kid movie trauma, Firewalker confusion, the sexiest nut debate, and a live-ish call that almost interrupts the show. It’s pure Mailbag chaos. Packages were opened. Opinions were had. Nobody sent a dick (this time). Email: ThisShowIsTrash@gmail.com Voicemail: 262-757-8567 Learn more about your ad choices. #273 - Firewalker (1986): Scene By Scene Riff31 Jul 202602:24:31
Chuck Norris and Lou Gossett Jr. team up as treasure-hunting buddies in this 1986 Cannon Films adventure that was never supposed to get made. Writer Robert Gosnell submitted the script as a sample of his range—Chuck read it, loved it, and they started shooting before the studio even bought it. The result is a globe-trotting (or is it?) quest involving a golden dagger, a psychic map, a one-eyed antagonist, a shaman watching I Love Lucy, and enough geographic confusion to make you question every map you’ve ever seen. Jason Baccus finally got his long-teased pick, Jim Frier returns for another desert misadventure after Ishtar, and the crew tries (and often fails) to figure out what the hell is actually happening from scene to scene. Expect uneven tone, questionable continuity, memorable supporting turns, and the usual Bad Movies Rule! chaos as we dig into the caves, the bars, the trains, and whatever the fire-walking part was supposed to mean. Mailbag: Ohio vs Wisconsin & Dave Thomas Still Sucks27 Jul 202601:05:50
Mailbag Mayhem returns with James, Clint, and Ryan digging through the inbox and voicemail line. We’ve got an all-timer metal promo, the HR department dangling a pizza-party escape clause, three different Joshes in a row, a guy whose entire gun collection is movie guns, an unhinged Dave Thomas defense years in the making, bingo grannies as the ultimate Walker, Texas Ranger villains, and a full-blown Ohio vs. Wisconsin land-swap war. #271 - Above the Law (1988): Scene by Scene Riff17 Jul 202602:27:37
Nico Toscani is a Chicago cop with a mysterious CIA past, a ponytail in progress, and a serious allergy to anyone thinking they're above the law — especially when that includes corrupt feds, mobsters, and a certain knife-wielding villain with a face that looks borrowed. Steven Seagal's debut vehicle mixes gritty cop drama, over-the-top action, and enough plot twists to make you wonder if the script was written by committee… or butter injections. In this week's episode, James, Dave, Bob, and Mel dive scene-by-scene into Seagal's first big swing. They break down the wild Vietnam backstory, the legendary car hood ride, the church bombing, bodega brawls, and that unforgettable "keep the change, you filthy animal" cameo. Expect plenty of laughs at the hair, the flips, the running form, the shoe throw, and whether this is peak early Seagal or the beginning of the end. They also hand out the awards (including a rare tie for the Will Patton), debate if this is a "bad movie that rules" or just straight-up bad, and wonder what Arnold or Kurt Russell could've done with the same material. Plus: Pam Grier in the car, Sharon Stone with random babies, and why this movie feels like three different films fighting for dominance. #270 - 2 Fast 2 Furious: A Scene By Scene Riff10 Jul 202602:27:27
The BMR crew is back for more quarter-mile chaos (and whatever the hell that bridge jump was) as we dive into 2 Fast 2 Furious! James, Clint, Bob, and Joe reunite to roast the Paul Walker/Tyreese Gibson bromance, Ludacris in a full-body jumpsuit, Cole Hauser’s rat torture tactics, and enough ejector seat talk to make you question physics. From Orange Julius-sponsored street races to houseboat showdowns and that legendary car-on-boat stunt, this one’s packed with early-2000s Miami vibes, terrible cop plots, and non-stop tangents. We debate if this is the weakest Fast film, hand out awards (including the most cursed supporting performances), and deliver our final verdicts. Click the link below to become a Patreon supporter! https://www.patreon.com/badmoviesrule We were all shocked when this one landed on GMR instead of BMR — Patrick fully expected to feed us a stinker, but Highlander (7.0 IMDb, strong critic/audience scores) showed up ready to rumble. We break down the epic sword fights (parking garage brawl, rooftop chaos, and that mountain training montage), the killer Queen soundtrack, Canon Films chaos, immortal rules, ridiculous accents, and why this 80s gem still hits with nostalgia, practical effects, and unhinged energy. #269 - Unmasking the Idol (1986) | Pure Chaos, Scene by Scene03 Jul 202602:35:55

Expect chainmail masks, a weather balloon escape, the most intelligent baboon in cinema history (Boone!), piranha pits, a hot tub full of ninjas, and more questionable decision-making than you can shake a throwing star at. This one starts strong with over-the-top action and only gets wilder from there. Click the link below to become a Patreon supporter! https://www.patreon.com/badmoviesrule James and Chuck dive into the second Bond film — the one that truly made 007 a global phenomenon — while a massive thunderstorm tries to wash them (and the new studio) off the map. Soaked shorts, bare feet on the third floor during a tornado watch, thunder on cue, and zero shoes? They break down the bigger budget, exotic locations, and the squad that returned from Dr. No (same director, same writers, even more grand scale). Robert Shaw as the chilling Grant, Lotte Lenya’s brass-knuckled Rosa Klebb, a very young Daniela Bianchi as Tatiana, the debut of Q and his briefcase of wonders, gypsy camp chaos, that legendary train fight, helicopter mayhem, boat chases, and all the tropes this movie cemented for the franchise. Expect plenty of tangents: leg doubles, poison shoes, Spectre’s loudspeaker addiction, chess tournament stress, and whether red wine really does go with fish. #265 - Battlefield Earth (2000)05 Jun 202602:39:21
In this long-awaited (and much-dreaded) episode, the Bad Movies Rule! crew finally tackles the infamous sci-fi disaster Battlefield Earth — the John Travolta passion project based on L. Ron Hubbard’s novel that somehow managed to waste a massive budget while delivering one of the most notorious flops in cinema history. James, Mel, Joe, and Curt suffer through Dutch angles, breathe-right strips, meat hoses, slop trough fights, Harrier jets piloted by cavemen, and Travolta’s wild alien makeup as they break down the movie scene-by-scene. Expect rants about the budget black hole, plot holes big enough to fly a Psychlo ship through, and plenty of debate over who gave the most unhinged performance. They hand out the Will Patton Intensity Award, the Trash Can of Dirty Water for worst acting, the Bixby Snyder One Scene Wonder, and the Steve James Supporting Performance trophy. If you’ve ever wondered how a movie with this much money and talent could be this bad, strap on your breather mask and join the suffering. You’ll never look at rat burgers (or elongated sandwiches) the same way again. Bad Movies Rule! — The podcast that’s somehow worse than the movies. #264 - A Knight's Tale (2000)29 May 202602:37:04
In this episode of Bad Movies Rule!, the crew straps on the armor and charges headfirst into A Knight's Tale (2001), the delightful medieval sports romp starring a baby-faced Heath Ledger as William Thatcher — a peasant who dreams of changing his stars by pretending to be a noble-born jouster. Joined by Dave, Rachel, and Mayor Ryan Mueller, we break down the film's infectious charm: the anachronistic rock soundtrack (We Will Rock You never hit harder), Paul Bettany's scene-stealing Geoffrey Chaucer as the ultimate hype man, Rufus Sewell's perfectly punchable villain Count Adhemar, and the unbeatable ensemble energy. We geek out over the jousting action, Heath Ledger's million-dollar smile, the heartfelt underdog story, and why this movie's sincerity hits different in a cynical world. Expect tons of laughs, training montage appreciation, deleted scene tangents, wild "what if Arnold Schwarzenegger was in this" recasting ideas, and our full awards ceremony (including the hard-fought Will Patton Award for Intensity). Whether you're a first-timer or a longtime fan who quotes "You have been weighed, you have been measured" on the daily, this is a love letter to one of the most rewatchable "good movies" out there. Gregory Snegoff: From Godan in SHE to Robotech Legend & Real-Life Adventurer26 May 202600:46:49
In this special episode of Bad Movies Rule!, we sit down with legendary actor and voice artist Gregory Snegoff - (Godan in the 1984 cult oddity She) for a wide-ranging conversation beamed in from Rome, Italy. Gregory shares his unforgettable experience filming She — an Italian-Israeli production shot in an abandoned villa outside Rome — including working with Sandahl Bergman, the wildly improvisational David "Popeye" Trailer, and director Avi Nesher. He dives into the chaotic, low-budget energy of the shoot, the film's bizarre cult-filled world, and why the movie remains so entertainingly unpredictable even 40+ years later. We also explore Gregory's incredible career: moving to Italy in 1979, becoming a cornerstone of Rome's English-language dubbing scene, voicing iconic roles in Robotech (and many other anime classics), writing for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and his deep love of sailing. Plus, he teases his ambitious new documentary series MythAdventures, which re-examines the real historical routes of legendary voyages like the Odyssey using nautical expertise and forgotten research. Whether you're a fan of She, Robotech, Italian cult cinema, or epic sailing adventures, this is a delightful, insightful, and often hilarious chat with a true industry veteran. They kick things off by devouring a two-foot-long spicy gummy worm (a “chip shot” from Clemens in Nashville) that builds heat with every bite — watch Ryan suffer gloriously. Other highlights include a copy of The Alphabet of Manliness (complete with crescent cock punch instructions) sent to help Ryan learn how to be a man, multiple passionate emails defending The Crow (including real Detroit Devil’s Night fire facts), a heated debate over whether the kid cheated in Rad, Street Fighter being re-cast as the best G.I. Joe movie, and suggestions for Planet of the Apes, Deadfall, and more. Voicemails cover everything from Jason Statham as an orca-killing pool boy, horror movies for kids (Signs vs. The Village), and Wes Studi name corrections from The Program. The episode peaks with BJ’s legendary Top Gun-themed Ryan/Maverick fanfic featuring Kelly McGillis that leaves everyone (especially Ryan) equal parts horrified and impressed. As always, the guys are grateful for the incredible community keeping the mail flowing. Want to be featured? #263 - Lone Wolf McQuade (1983)22 May 202602:33:25
Chuck Norris rides (and roundhouse kicks) into Bad Movies Rule for a full-length tribute to one of his all-time classics: Lone Wolf McQuade (1983)! In this rowdy, beer-soaked episode, James, Bob, Chuck, Jenna, and special guest Jack Dean saddle up for a scene-by-scene breakdown of the ultimate lone-wolf Texas Ranger movie. Expect plenty of Ranger drinking game talk (RIP to anyone who actually tried it), dirt-covered romance, supercharged Dodge Ram chases, one of the greatest final fights in Chuck’s filmography, and more “but lady,” “Ranger,” and horse-related commentary than you can shake a vest at. They also dive into Chuck’s real-life inspiration, the Walker, Texas Ranger spiritual predecessor vibes, David Carradine’s slick villainy, the legendary Franco De Vita score, and crown winners in our usual awards (Will Patton, Trash Can Full of Dirt, etc.). Plus, patron recasts and a heartfelt send-off to the legend himself. Whether you’re a lifelong Chuckhead or this is your first ride with the beard, this one’s pure BMR gold: equal parts ridiculous, reverent, and rowdy.
