Episode 71: Many don't know this, but there are free ranging Elk in West Texas. They were introduced into the McKittrick Canyon in 1928. Today, five herds of Rocky Mountain Elk exist in the Guadalupe, Glass, Wylie, Davis and Eagle Mountains of West Texas.
The State of Texas considers Elk to be an exotic animal. What does this mean? It means you can hunt Elk year-round with limited restrictions. A non-resident 5-day special hunting license for $48, or annual version for $132, is all you need! It is known as license number 157.
Finding public land can be a challenge, however. There isn't much remaining in Texas.

Episode 61: Hunting mature Whitetail Bucks is challenging especially when they know they are being hunted. It's even more challenging when you are hunting on smaller tracts of land.
Knowing where bedding, feeding areas, and water sources are will allow you to create tactics for a more successful hunting season. Know your wind directions, use scent control methods, and make sure your access to your stand is as undetected as possible.
Hunting small tracts can be extremely challenging, but embrace the challenge and reap the awards of the work you put in.

Episode 55: We take a look at the wild turkey harvest numbers in Illinois and Kentucky over the past few years. Kentucky's 2022 harvest was the lowest in 14 years. Illinois saw a decline of approximately 2500 birds between the 2021 and 2020 seasons.

Episode 54: BUCK FILES WITH BILLY WHEELER Billy Wheeler, a friend of the show, spent some time in studio with us to talk about his 2021-2022 archery season in Illinois.
Billy had the opportunity to harvest a giant typical whitetail that gross scored 183" on October 20th in Southern Illinois. Just 5 days later, Billy struck again this time with a 157 7/8" whitetail.
