How Can We Reduce The Time It Takes To Hire A Players?10 Feb 202200:13:20

“We’re having a big challenge around hiring at the moment.

For each position we probably receive 300+ applications. Between reviewing CVs, cover letters, projects, phone interviews, and in-person / video interviews, we probably spend upwards of 40 hours finding each hire.

We have started using a recruiter, which has cut the time that we spend to about 10 hours per position, however, we now pay a great deal in fees.

Any ideas on how to improve things in this area?"

This is today’s listener question that Adam King and his guest Adam Hoeksema from Projection Hub brainstorm and mastermind solutions to on The Virtual Hot Seat section of The B2B Growth Think Tank.

Today’s guest is Lachlan Kirkwood who, at 24, is the youngest person I’ve had on the show so far and first of the "Millennial Generation".

Sounds a million miles away from those stereotypes right?

On this episode:

  • Inside the mind of a millenial that doesn't fit the stereotype
  • The positive impact millenials are having on LinkedIn, and what you can learn from how they build their network differently
  • How freely sharing ideas and collaboration are core millennial values that give them an advantage

COVID-19, Collaboration & Zoombombing03 Apr 202000:59:02

A couple of days ago, Travis Ketchum, CEO of Campaign Refinery and Contest Domination, Chris Bruno, CEO of SocialINK, and myself, decided to run an open Zoom Collaboration Call to help businesses and entrepreneurs with their marketing during these difficult times.

The idea was to try to help as many people as we could during this COVID situation. We are all experiencing the same things and it’s hard to figure out what to do next when no one knows what’s coming next.

While we did EVENTUALLY manage to have a great conversation and share some solid ideas on what we can all be doing right now, unfortunately it got off to a bit of a rocky start...

Basically we experienced first hand what #ZoomBombing was the hard way.

We also learned a valuable lesson… Don’t put an open link to a Zoom call out into the world!

We didn’t want to ask people to register as didn’t want to put anyone off thinking it was some kind of “data gathering” exercise. But unfortunately a few people who have clearly been stuck inside for too long showed up and thought it would be hilarious to start throwing insults, profanities and showing screens of lewd acts…!

There’s a few villages missing more than one idiot by the look of things!

You can read what Chris wrote about this by reading the blog post he wrote about it here

But as everything that is going on right now requires quick thinking, resourcefulness and flexibility, we did manage to quickly pivot and host the call on a different platform (Thanks Travis!!!)

So tune in to hear us share our thoughts about the "new normal" and discuss creative ways to sustain (and grow) your business during this challenging period and beyond.

Adam Franklin: LinkedIn Lead Generation02 Apr 202000:45:04

If you suffer from the dreaded “feast / famine” in your business, then the chances are it's because your marketing is not being done consistently.

Because without a systematic process powering your marketing, you end up skipping key activities when you're busy with clients, and then rushing trying to fill the pipeline when you're not.

And although it doesn't sound as sexy as the latest “shiny object marketing tactic” or “secret hack”, a systematic process for marketing that ensures all your key activities are done consistently is the closest thing there is out there to a “secret hack”, and is the foundation of all sustainable business growth.

The good news is that this doesn’t have to be complicated, and exactly what my guest and I are going to be talking about today.

Adam Franklin is a professional speaker and the author of Amazon #1 bestseller Web Marketing That Works. His work has been featured in Forbes, Huffington Post, Entrepreneur and today is CEO of Bluewire Media where he teaches 1000s of clients how to win high value clients using LinkedIn via his online courses and coaching programs.

He also has an awesome name… ;-)

On this episode:

  • Adam's 3 Part LinkedIn Lead Generation Methodology
  • Why automation on LinkedIn is not a good idea
  • How to find your ideal clients on LinkedIn
  • The best way to start conversations on LinkedIn
  • Using content to take advantage of LinkedIn's HUGE organic reach

Tobin Slaven: The Most Direct Route To Revenue & Cash Flow In Your Business19 Mar 202000:55:55

Pretty obvious, but without leads and sales opportunities no business can survive.

The problem is that too many businesses just aren’t equipped to generate enough quality sales opportunities to grow.

Probably because many are using outdated tactics that just aren't going to work in today’s social selling environment. For decades, marketing and sales teams have used high-volume outreach tactics to drive revenue OR they’ve sat around waiting for inbound leads and referrals.

But things are changing. The old way of doing business doesn’t cut it these days. Buyers have changed. They are more sophisticated. They are more discerning. And with so many offers being presented to them from so many sources, trust (for many) has become harder to win.

So what do you do?

Well my guest today Tobin Slaven from SalesMap.me is going to tell you! (and probably blow your mind in the process)

On this episode:

  • Confessions of a reformed digital marketer.
  • What are Conversations at Scale?
  • Why "Funnels" don't work the way they're sold to you.
  • Tobin's 4 Gears of Marketing.
  • How to fill your pipeline with interested and qualified prospects using LinkedIn.
  • How Tobin would get 3 clients in 30 days to save his business.

The REAL Power of Strategic Alliances For Any Business With Ambitions For Growth11 Nov 202100:06:21

In part 3 of my mini series on Strategic Alliances, I’m going to show you how Strategic Alliances can boost your client generation and profits very quickly.

But first, what I’d like to really encourage you to do from now on, is to really think about the concept of access as an asset.

In the case of Strategic Alliances, you’re getting access to other people's network, audience, client base, knowledge, connections, etc. which in turn becomes an asset for your business.

Access Is Also An Accelerant

Access for you, to your partners audience and network, is an accelerant for your business.

It speeds up how you get in front of your ideal clients.

It cuts the time you need to spend building trust with prospects, as your recommendations and endorsements come with that already implied and built in.

Can you see when you get this, how you can attract clients to your business, and potentially earn revenue in a way that you’ve never had before?

It Works BOTH Ways

The real benefit of Alliances though is that access isn’t just an asset and an accelerant for you, but also an asset and accelerant for others that you can help. Both for your partners, your clients, their clients, their friends, their families.

Once you increase your access, you can then use this to provide others access to things they didn’t have before. Which accelerates your reach and exposure to their network, and further increases your access. And so it goes on…

The network effect here is exponential, and offers huge benefits to everyone in it.

Beatrix Schmidt: The Business Benefits Of A Great Night’s Sleep10 Mar 202000:47:01

Today’s episode focuses on something slightly different...

We’re going to be talking about SLEEP.

Why you might be thinking? Isn’t this a podcast about growing a business?

Well, according to RAND Europe's research and cross-country analysis in 2016, lack of sleep among UK workers is costing the economy around £40 billion and 200,000 working days lost each year, and that’s not even mentioning worldwide figures!

So it’s clear that a lack of good quality sleep can have serious impacts on your business. Both from the negative impact on your own performance, and that of your staff.

Which is why in this episode I’m talking to Beatrix Schmidt.

Beatrix is a sleep coach professional speaker, author of The Sleep Deep Method®, and founder of The Sleep Deep Practice.

Having struggled with insomnia and burning herself out in her mid-twenties, she spent the last 10 years researching sleep and learning that in order for us to sleep well at night, we need to look much deeper than just how tired we are and the number of hours we sleep.

And for me, as a parent to 2 daughters under 4, this is a subject I’m constantly thinking about!

On this episode:

  • The problems caused by a lack of sleep.
  • How sleep deprivation shows up in your everyday life.
  • How the culture of a business can contribute to poor sleep.
  • The ROI of consistently getting enough quality sleep.
  • A good night's sleep doesn’t just happen in the bedroom…
  • Finally… a practical answer to the question: “how much sleep do I need?”
  • How Beatrix has applied simplicity to grow her practice.
  • What Beatrix would do if she had 30 days to save her business.

And much more!

I must admit, when I started The Client Catching Podcast, I wasn't sure whether it would be a success, or another "shiny object" that got me all excited at the start, only to fizzle out into the "podfade graveyard"...

Starting a podcast was actually pretty easy. Keeping a podcast going is another thing!

Apparently around 75% of published podcasts are no longer in production. So you'll have to forgive me for indulging in a little celebration! Not only reaching this milestone of 50 episodes, but for being (mostly) consistent with it!

I've been able to share some amazing stories, strategies and conversations with some truly remarkable guests. Each and everyone has shared amazing insights and value around how they've achieved their success.

But there's one thing that has stood out above all else. Once success factor that seems almost universal across all of their success. So perhaps I've "cracked the success code"...

I share this insight, as well as reveal the top 5 most listened to episodes from the first 50 episodes of The Client Catching Podcast, with a short summary of each.

On this episode:

  • The number 1 success factor for business growth
  • The common themes of successful growth

4 Big Business (& Life) Lessons I've Learned Turning 4013 Feb 202000:27:22

I turn 40 this week (14th Feb 2020 for those seeing this in the future...). Not quite sure how that happened!

After I mentioned this to a guest before an interview a few weeks ago, they asked me...

"What did you learn in your 30's that has prepared you for your 40's?"

I must admit, I couldn't answer this right there and then!

But it did get me thinking about the lessons I've learned, and I considered how they contribute to successful marketing.

And I decided to share what I came up with to (hopefully) help you!

Some of these are quite personal, and still hard to talk about. But as I believe business development is as much personal development as anything else, I didn't hold back.

On this episode:

  • The 4 Big Business (& Life) Lessons I've Learned Turning 40
  • What a diagnosis of ADHD in my 30's taught me about the importance of putting your personality in your marketing.
  • Why you can only blame yourself if you're not where you want to be.
  • How trauma in life can impact your success in business.
  • Why integrity matters more than anything in your marketing (and your life).

The Power of Partnerships05 Dec 201900:10:20

You and I both know one thing.

You can't grow a business UNLESS you have leads.

People who have the pain point that you solve AND are looking for a solution.

But are you trying to get your leads 'THE HARD WAY' by having to find all the leads yourself or having to pay all the time to get a lead?

Now don’t get me wrong, I think you should have multiple marketing channels, however it amazes me that very few people utilise Partnerships as well as they could.

The problem is when you don’t leverage into other people’s networks, clients and databases then you are stuck doing EVERYTHING YOURSELF, and I’m not sure about you, but I know time is already a major problem.

Bottom line... Great businesses are always looking for partners to help promote them into new networks.

On this episode:

  • The mindset you must have for successful partnerships
  • Why you need to develop "interdependence"
  • Great partnerships are first and foremost built on CLIENT NEEDS
  • The concept of "upstream" and "Downstream" when finding perfect partners

Melvin Figueroa: Is Your Website Helping Or Hurting Your Business?14 Nov 201900:37:57

Your website can be one of your most effective marketing tools … BUT ONLY if you use it properly. Because unless your site actively generates leads and inquiries, you're wasting a lot of your time and money.

Sadly, this is exactly what is happening for so many service-based companies with their website today. It’s a cost, not a business asset generating a return on investment in the form of those leads and inquiries.

That’s why I’m excited to be talking to my guest today, as he’s spent over a decade helping his clients to unleash the true power of their website and build a strong online presence that leads to growth.

Melvin Figueroa is a web designer, branding expert, and Founder of Mello Multimedia, where he builds brands and websites for business owners that are an asset, not a cost.

On this episode:

  • The big problem with most websites.
  • Why your website needs to be built around your clients, NOT your business.
  • Using the “spotlight” method to improve your website and win more clients.
  • Are you losing business or opportunities because of this...?
  • Why great design is a collaborative effort.
  • How a website fits into your overall digital footprint.
  • How your logo is like your handshake.

Jonathan Denwood: How To Use An eLearning Platform To Grow Your Service Business31 Oct 201900:38:46

When I talk to most service business owners about growing their firm, the majority tell me their strategy is focused on getting more clients they can serve with their current offerings.

Which makes total sense of course. However, not many consider that there are alternative ways to grow your service business. And there’s one specifically that doesn’t require you to continue to add overhead and infrastructure to deliver the service itself…

I’m talking about eLearning and online courses. This could be through a stand-alone course, or using them in combination with your existing services to enhance your client’s experience, help to differentiate you from others in your space and charge higher fees.

But if you haven’t considered eLearning as a viable option for you because you’re put off by all the “techy stuff”, then my guest today is going to remove that excuse and really open your eyes to the possibilities of adding an online element to your service offerings.

He is a fellow Brit but has made a very successful move to America, which is where he’s joining me from today.

He is the Founder and CEO of WP-Tonic, where he helps his clients create online courses and eLearning platforms that can add a substantial additional revenue stream to your business!

So as his approach to growing a service-based business is one not many consider straight away, yet is more simple than you realize, I’m really looking forward to talking to my guest today, Jonathan Denwood!

On this episode:

  • What is eLearning?
  • How to use an eLearning platform to enhance your existing services
  • How to plan and build your own online course
  • The 3 ways Jonathan attracts and catches clients for his business
  • And much more!

What Is A Strategic Alliance? (And Why They Outperform Every Other B2B Growth Strategy)04 Nov 202100:07:52

This is the first part of my series on Strategic Alliances, and why they can literally transform your business.

Strategic Alliances are so effective because one of the most reliable ways to grow your business is...

To get other people to help grow it for you!

Why would other people want to help you to grow your business you may ask? It’s quite simple really…

By helping them grow theirs too!

In simple terms, this means creating relationships with specific people and businesses that sell to the same buyers you do, but offer a different solution.

You don’t compete with each other, you complement each other.

Guy Bellamy: The Art Of Communication That Wins Clients26 Sep 201901:01:14

All of us are being bombarded with so much stuff, we have to tune out simply to stay sane.

So it’s getting harder for businesses to break through the noise and avoid being lost on an ocean of obscurity…

Unless of course you can craft a message that your ideal clients really resonates with, and then communicate that message in a way that gets attention, builds trust and attracts clients, while your competition stays lost in the noise.

That’s exactly what my guest today, Founder of Elephant Communications Guy Bellamy, helps you do. He is a Communications specialist with a 23-year track record of helping businesses reshape their communications strategies in a way that impacts your clients, and your bottom line.

On this episode:

  • What loud shirts can teach you about memorable communication.
  • Why effective communication isn’t about the channel you use.
  • How to get respect and be liked by better understanding your clients.
  • Why effective communication is like being at a drinks party.
  • If you can’t get engagement without paying for ads, don’t do it.
  • Great communication is more about listening, so stop SHOUTING!
  • The control of the agenda is not with you, it’s with your clients and all you need to do is show up and be useful.
  • 3 simple things you can do to improve your communication.

And much more!

How To Stand Out And Attract Clients In A World Of Extroverts & Selfies: A Quietly Powerful Guide For Professional Introverts... (And Curious Extroverts!)

There's both a PDF download and bonus video version.

Essentially I created this after realising that, as an introvert who can at times be painfully shy, meaning that sometimes struggled to stand out and attract clients, I'm not alone!

So if you're an introvert like me, perhaps at some level you've felt this has held you back in your business?

Because even though you’ve been successful, you’ve always found it a little harder to attract clients in this age of social media and selfies, (and the thought of taking one, especially in public, makes you cringe…), than others who seem to embrace it.

If so, this guide could be your saviour!

Sean Donahoe & Phil Newton: Mastering The Art of Doing Less While Earning More [Part 2 of 2]19 Sep 201900:33:34

This is the second installment of my 2 part interview with Sean Donahoe and Phil Newton from UnHustled.com.

If you haven’t listened to part 1, I suggest you go back and start there or this may not make total sense!

In this second part of our interview, we continue discussing how to do things in a more streamlined, optimized and efficient way that yields much more significant results without having to trade time for money.

On this episode:

  • The almost too simple way to grow your business without any complicated marketing.
  • Why a focus on conversations, NOT selling will actually win you more clients.
  • When you have a “solution stack”, you open the potential for multiple new streams of revenue (and you don’t need to deliver it all)...
  • Why being “King of The Hill” is the simplest way to grow your business, and how to wear that crown.

And much more!

Sean Donahoe & Phil Newton: Mastering The Art of Doing Less While Earning More [Part 1/2]17 Sep 201900:37:10

We have another first for The Client Catching Podcast today…

I’m not just talking to one expert, but two! And these guys are quite the double act, let me tell you…

But before I reveal who they are, let me ask you how different your business (and life) would be if you could get more results from doing a lot less?

Well that’s what my guests today Sean Donahoe and Phil Newton focus on helping you achieve. They call it being “UnHustled”. Doing things in a more streamlined, optimized and efficient way that yields much more significant results without having to trade time for money.

Through their content and programs at UnHustled.com, they share how you can free up your time, work smarter and enjoy life more.

Which I’m pretty sure most of us would love to know how to do!

As we had a longer than usual conversation with two experts, the full interview has been split into two. This is part one, part two will be available shortly.

We also did this as a Facebook Live video, which you can watch here if you want to watch the whole interview all at once!

On this episode:

  • How Phil & Sean arrived at the same destination, but for very different reasons.
  • What does it mean to be “UnHustled” in your business?
  • How to design your business around the life you want, not the other way round.
  • The simple 3 step process to free up hours of your time every week.

And much more!

Matt Johnson: How to Build Strategic Relationships & Create Authority With Podcasts10 Sep 201900:42:05

Today’s episode is going to be a little bit “meta”...

That’s because we’re talking about using a podcast, both your own and appearing on others, to build your reputation as a leader in your industry and attract clients.

In fact, I saw a post on LinkedIn the other day from Gary Vaynderchuck saying that starting a niche podcast is one of the most incredible opportunities for anyone in B2B.

So if he sees the power in podcasts, maybe it’s time to take the plunge!

But rather than listen to me ramble on about how transformative podcasting can be for you and your business, today I’m talking to Matt Johnson.

Matt is a fellow marketer, podcast expert, and founder of podcast PR & production agency, Pursuing Results.

On this episode:

  • Why podcasts are the “New Networking”
  • Matt’s journey from Real Estate, to musician, to podcast expert.
  • How a single sentence can transform how you attract clients.
  • How to use a “pitch assistant” to get featured on the right podcasts & leverage outside audiences to grow your business.
  • Why podcasting is all about “being in the right pond to get more fish on your hook”.
  • The simple weekly podcasting formula Matt uses to get his clients results.
  • How to win clients and generate revenue from podcasting.

And much more!

Steve Pailthorpe: Generate Organic Leads From Search03 Sep 201900:49:26

If you think about how our habits have changed in the last decade or so, one thing you’d probably put at the top of your list is how you probably type stuff into a search engine like Google on a daily basis.

In fact a little statistic I found suggests eighty-one percent of customers and massive 94% of B2B buyers, will perform searches online before they make a purchase!

It’s these changes in our behaviour that have meant as business owners, we know about the importance of showing up in these searches, or we risk falling behind the competition.

Which is why you’re going to want to pay attention to my guest today, Steve Pailthorpe, Founder of iconicdigital.co.uk who is recognized internationally as a prominent digital marketing & SEO expert.

On this episode:

  • Why SEO isn’t dead…
  • The small simple changes that will result in more visitors to your website
  • Why it’s vital that your website is designed for search if you want to generate leads
  • The importance of backlinks
  • How to get millions worth of insights from the big boys, that you can use for free
