29 May 2023
00:59:31
In today's world - having a website that hooks people from the first sentence is vital if you want to survive & thrive in the digital economy, but if you're like me, we struggle to really nail that first line.
That's why, for the next LIVE Q&A Show, I'm bringing the guy that has figured out exactly how to craft the first sentence: Joe Martin.
Joe has spent the last 20 years working on how to see the world through your clients' eyes, and created a truly different way to solve the most common website problems- focusing on the copy of the first sentence to drive conversion.
On our show together, he will discuss:
- why most of us get the first line by chasing quirkiness over clarity - how to craft the ideal first sentence that turns prospects into leads - where you can use this message to increase your sales conversions further down the funnel - and more!
Not a lot of people get invited onto the show more than once, but Joe's particular genius is one that I need to tap into again, and figured it would be best to invite you along for the ride!

143 | Digital Strategies So Good This Lawyer & GC Are Turning Down Work W/ Al Nicoletti and Jesse Lane
25 Oct 2021
01:29:48
You hear big brands going through "digital transformation" and "doubling down on social media", but that often rings false to traditional service businesses (like insurance, financial services, construction, etc.).
THEREFORE I brought you something you will need to see to believe.
Al Nicoletti (attorney) and Jesse Lane (general contractor) have recently both told me they are getting so much work, they are referring it away or just turning it down, and the secret to their success has been SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT with a few key strategies in mind.
In this episode, we asked Al and Jesse about:
- How Jesse is leveraging YouTube and Google to turn down $10M+ in business per quarter -How Al has started his own business barely a year ago and has capitalized on social media to grow beyond his original area of practice - What other service-based businesses that traditionally acquire clients through referral and networking can do to grow so fast!
These two guys are not just brilliant business strategists, they're also super fun guys to be around.

135 | Lesson From 10 Years In The Field Of Community w/ Jenny Weigle
31 Aug 2021
01:01:40
Here's something I'm a little embarrassed to admit: I had no idea there was a whole field of COMMUNITY until recently!
That's until my old college buddy, Jenny Weigle, recognized me on a CMX Summit promo, reached out, and told me she'd be working in the community with over 100 brands for over 10 years!
While I've cracked one code about community (how to make it work in your Go To Market), Jenny knows all there is to know about how it has evolved, who the major players are, and what their pain points are when pursuing community strategies.
This is an eye-opening conversation that will expand your mind about everything you thought you knew about communities and business.

Scott wrote his first book in 2009 trying to change the way traditional B2B sales were done and how companies treated their salespeople. Well, it has just gotten worse over the last decade!
After speaking to countless executives from large, household name companies to small businesses, it's become clear to Scott that the old game of sales, no longer fits the new world of business.
In this fireside chat with Scott, you'll get to ask him questions about:
- How the silent killer for companies are customer and employee churn caused by sales - Why traditional sales has trained companies to treat people (especially salespeople) like crap - How are businesses supposed to succeed without salespeople? - Plus anything else you want to ask Scott about!

Brett Ruiz and I connected on LinkedIn a few months ago, and his outlook on leadership and relationship building made us close friends immediately.

That's why he is the visionary of Medina Exteriors dba Simply Distinct Kitchens & Baths, and a dedicated Strategic Coach Student.
In this episode we'll talk about: - The 8 Category levers: how an article from Category Pirates applies to his business - His plan for software development in his industry - His involvement in the Strategic Coach community, the number 1 entrepreneurship for small and medium-sized businesses (according to the past guest, Justin Breen) - His "New" way to go to clients: putting them first and not talking about his products, rather talking about the value and what it solves

130 | Christopher Lochhead on How to Fail For 30 Years, Yet Succeed At Starting A Movement
30 Jul 2021
01:09:53
Christopher Lochhead is a co-author of one of the top 1% selling business books of all time (Play Bigger), the host of the #1 business podcast on all of Apple, co-author of a top 15% newsletter on Substack (Category Pirates), and the self-proclaimed "Godfather of Category Design," a discipline that has completely transformed my life.
Given that success, I was SHOCKED with what Lochhead told me that for 30 years only 20% of people he worked with bought into his methodology and that he thought he was destined to "be the old guy at the bar mumbling to himself about how no one listened."
As a guy that believes he's unlocked a new bulletproof methodology for business growth, myself, I had to pick his brain about how he endured, what changed, and what he would do if he was me.
What ensued is a conversation I'll never forget. Lochhead is a real hero of mine, and I feel very fortunate to have been able to host him on the show.

That's why we used last week's relationship driven growth open mic to share a couple of low cost, low effort, high impact events that our community has pulled off, including:
- a tea party at the Drake Hotel of Chicago - a book signing at an airport bookstore - an upcoming improv night to kick off a conference
This is just part of the stuff we share on the second hour of our weekly internet talk shows.
Come for the interview portion and stay for the open mic, or if you want just show up late and be there for the open mic!
129 | Using Category Design For Social Justice w/ Karthiga Ratnam
26 Jul 2021
01:11:43
Karthi Ratnam is someone unlike anyone you've ever met.
First of all, she's from Sri Lanka- a country that has only been open to travel to for about one generation.
She grew up with parents that instilled the values of curiosity, self-reliance, and grit in a culture that doesn't make opportunities readily available for women.
This rare combination has created a social justice warrior unlike anyone you've ever associated with that term- one that uses the Silicon Valley thinking in solving for some of the world's biggest issues.

26 Jul 2021
01:06:14
David Berkowitz is the founder of the Serial Marketers community- a community of over 2,500 marketers that give each other advice, refer jobs to each other and collaborate in many other ways.
He recently launched the $CMO coin. This brought about a completely different way to add and extract value from his community. I believe this is the future of communities.
That's why I asked David to come on the show and give you a sneak peak into how he built his amazing community, and how crypto will inevitably change the trajectories of all future communities!

126 | Winning B2B on LinkedIn and TikTok w/ Zoe Hartsfield
19 Jul 2021
01:01:40
Zoe Hartsfield calls herself the Queen of video prospecting, a killer relationship builder, and a mediocre podcast guest.
I beg to differ... at least on the last part
In fact, just that description alone shows part of the reason she's doing so well in her career using LinkedIn and TikTok to grow business relationships.
We had a PHENOMENAL conversation about all the tactics she uses to grow relationships across multiple channels and skyrocket her personal brand.
Also, I'd love it if you connected with me on LinkedIn or Instagram.

125 | A Simple Strategy For Personal Branding Today (and Quick Apology!)
15 Jul 2021
00:39:26
I don't claim to be a personal branding expert, but for whatever reason, I've been invited to speak about it multiple times in the past few months... so I wanted to share it with you.
I've distilled what has worked for my personal brand into some really simple concepts that anyone can implement, regardless of whether or not you use social media.
This specific speech was done for the staff of my buddies at Yellowbird Homebuyers. They are a big reason why I've had so much success in Jacksonville. If you're ever in the area, you should totally check out their YellowBird Connect Events.

124 | The Difference Between Content and Community- A Keynote from the AIT Summit
12 Jul 2021
00:52:34
You probably know you need to create content for your business. You probably also want to create community.
But how do you get started, and how do you make that equal sales??? That's what we answer here.
I had a major "AHA" moment a couple of months ago when I realized I produced 2 "podcasts" in 2020 with most of the same features- the same number of episodes, the same downloads, and the same host.
One lead to about $40k worth of revenue. The other about $40 MILLION.
The key difference? Starting off as an internet talk show allowed us to deliberately execute the Relationship Flywheel for one of them.
This is a keynote from the Association of Influencers and Thought Leaders where I broke down everything you need to know about how to start a content program that drives community and leads to sales.

Ep 220 | Tools For Becoming A Great Conversationalist w/ Guest Host, Yurii Lazaruk
10 Apr 2023
01:07:40
Richard Branson famously said, "Communication is the most important skill any leader can possess," and conversations are the base of communication.
But I've never seen any training on how to be a great conversationalist.
That's why when Yurii Lazaruk reached out to ask me how I learned to interview people on my show, I knew it would be a great opportunity to share what I know about having easy conversations with anyone.
This has been a lifelong obsession for me, and I hope to share:
- How to apply a couple of frameworks I've developed that make any conversation easy - Why listening to summarize has become a superpower that helps the person I'm speaking with - What practicing interviewing people on podcasts has unlocked for Yurii and I that you are probably underestimating - and much much more!
Yurii Lazaruk is a rising superstar in the world of community. He's used podcasting and community to help get him through hard times as a native Ukranian, and has a master plan of leveraging this experience to meet Duane "The Rock" Johnson!

"What does success mean to you?" She has spent the last 5 years answering that question and helping others do the same.

Using Category Design For Conflict Resolution - RDG Open Mic Session
08 Apr 2023
00:33:01
The strategy of category design involves creating a new category instead of competing in an existing one.
By marketing the problem rather than the solution, companies have succeeded in capturing 76% market share in their category.
This is because she who states the problem best, is known to have the solution.
But most people believe this only works for companies with giant coffers seeking massive scale.
That's why this example of category design thinking to resolve a conflict between two civic groups in Santa Cruz really stood out to me.
So we discussed it on the Relationship Driven Growth Open Mic Session we host after every live show. It generally starts at 5:30pm EST on Mondays right after the B2B Community Builder Show wraps up.
Come for the show, stay for the Open Mic... or just come for the Open Mic one of these Mondays, and bring an interesting take. I'll make content from it for you.

Known as The Traveling Hypnotist, Nicole is a hypnosis practitioner, anxiety educator, and Resident Healer at Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown. She helps clients unpack anxiety, fear, and unhelpful habits so that they can take on the world with clarity and ease.
Her process is informed by modern hypnosis, neuro-linguistic programming, mindfulness, and her innate intuitive gift. As a life-long student of behavioral psychology, neuroscience, movement, and spirituality, she believes in a solution-oriented approach anchored in the understanding that neuroplasticity is the key to true transformation.
Her Hypnotic Journey method combines imaginative, sensory-rich experiences, and practical tools to interrupt old thinking patterns and behavior.
For more than a decade, she led parallel career paths in corporate marketing while teaching mind-movement fitness, yoga, and guided visualizations in New York City.

This that's a genius email address? Me too, but I didn't come up with it. It was the idea of my good friend, and super talented web designer, Nathan Ruff.
If you want your website redone, updated, and managed with unlimited updates for just $250/month (CRAZY GOOD DEAL RIGHT??), go to Manage My Website and hookup with one of the smartest, most talented guys I've ever met- THE Nathan Ruff.

This was an UNBELIEVABLE conversation with Andrea (Andi) Simon who is a corporate anthropologist that has been helping corporations navigate change.
Andi talks about how to spot future trends, how the rise of the female workforce is impacted by the past, and how to lead companies like Citi through periods of uncertainty.
She's a cool lady, and I'm happy to now call her a friend.
