Robert Forte Episode #1 An Honest Look at the Psychedelic Renaissance. A deep dive into modern psychedelia03 Apr 202402:04:44

In this conversation, Robert Forte discusses his deep dive into the phenomena of sacred plants and psychedelics, as well as his involvement with key figures in the psychedelic renaissance. He highlights the importance of understanding history. Forte also shares his critical perspective on the mainstream narrative of the psychedelic Renaissance and the commercialization of psychedelic drugs. He delves into the influence of the CIA and big corporations in the field of psychedelics as well as the dark side of American history represented by figures like Alan Dulles. The conversation explores various themes, including the influence of Nazi intelligentsia, Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, weapons of mass distraction, the education system and social engineering, Solomon Ash's experiments on conformity, the power of individual influence, and the healing potential of psychedelics. The chapters delve into the historical context, societal implications, and personal experiences related to these topics. The conversation explores various themes related to the psychedelic movement, including the integration of psychedelic experiences, psychedelic evangelism, the narrative of psychedelic history, the negative aspects of the new psychedelic movement, the impact of MKUltra, the loss of control of democracy, the influence of the CIA in the music industry, corruption in Indian mysticism and yoga, and the importance of appreciating the miracle of life.

Takeaways

The study of history contains both the best and worst aspects of humanity.

The psychedelic Renaissance has been influenced by various elements, including healing,  control, transformation, spirituality and profit.

The CIA played a significant role in introducing psychedelic drugs into modern society, with some individuals within the organization having different agendas. MkUltra -operation mind control is one of the many programs that were created to influence the culture.

Understanding the post-World War II era and the formation of the CIA is crucial to comprehending the current state of psychedelics. The formation of NASA and the CIA involved the recruitment of defected Third Reich Nazis, highlighting the influence of Nazi intelligentsia on post-war institutions.

Aldous Huxley's Brave New World serves as a cautionary tale about a future society controlled by a small elite through social engineering and the use of a drug called soma.

The attention economy, driven by social media platforms like TikTok, has led to an epidemic of mental health issues, particularly among young people.

Solomon Ash's experiments on conformity reveal the tendency of individuals to defy their own senses and conform to group opinions, highlighting the importance of cultivating an internal locus of control.

The education system has been designed to promote compliance and obedience, often neglecting the development of critical thinking and individuality. John Taylor Gatto Describes this in many of his books including Weapons of Mass Instruction.

Psychedelics have the potential to enhance creativity, gain insight into oneself, and facilitate healing, but their effects are influenced by the environment, set and setting as well as the individual's personality.

The psychedelic movement has both positive and negative aspects, with some individuals using psychedelics to promote personal growth and others exploiting them for power and control.

Individuals have the power to influence change by coming alive, questioning authority, and cultivating meaningful connections with others. It is important to integrate psychedelic experiences and consider how they impact our behavior and actions in society.

Psychedelic evangelism can overlook important aspects and criticisms of the psychedelic movement.

The narrative of psychedelic history often oversimplifies the role of individuals like Timothy Leary and overlooks the political agendas at play.

The new psychedelic movement should be critically examined, and the negative aspects and potential dangers should be acknowledged.

The deployment of MKUltra and its impact on the anti-war movement and society should be explored.

The influence of the CIA in the music industry and the corruption in Indian mysticism and yoga should be recognized.

Appreciating the miracle of life and being present in the moment is a valuable psychedelic experience in itself.

Edward Bernays book Propaganda.  "The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. ...We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. This is a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized. Vast numbers of human beings must cooperate in this manner if they are to live together as a smoothly functioning society. ...In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons...who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. Takeaways

Andrew Marino has over 50 years of experience in biophysics.

He worked closely with Robert Becker, a pioneer in the field of healing and electromagnetic energy.

Marino's research focused on the biological effects of low-level electromagnetic energy.

Industry pressures often compromise scientific integrity and research funding.

Marino's experiences led him to pursue a law degree to better understand the legal landscape.

The concept of 'truth' in science is often influenced by economic interests.

Regulatory agencies have shifted focus from public health to industry benefits.

Marino believes that the public has little input in safety standards today.

The relationship between science and industry has become increasingly problematic.

Marino's work aims to keep alive the ideas of Robert Becker despite industry opposition. Biochemical inflammation must exist because it happens.

Human nature will not allow us to lift ourselves by our bootstraps.

The government prioritizes funding for curing cancer over understanding its causes.

Research into environmental contaminants is often stifled.

The public must demand investment in understanding causes, not just mechanisms.

The author is keen to finish their book before it's too late.

Electromagnetic fields have biological effects that are often overlooked.

Cross-examination is a powerful tool for finding the truth in science.

Hypersensitivity syndrome is a real phenomenon that requires more research.

The laws of biology are complex and not fully understood.

“Going Somewhere is a dynamic autobiographical narrative about Andrew Marino’s career in science. With a depth and drama that arise from personal involvement, the book explores an exceptionally wide range of science-related matters: the relation between electrical energy and life; the influence of corporate and military power on science; the role of self-interest on the part of federal and state agencies that deal with human health, especially the NIH and the FDA; the importance of cross-examining scientific experts in legal hearings; the erroneous view of nature that results when the perspective of physics is extended into biology; the pivotal role of deterministic chaos theory in at least some cognitive processes. These matters arise in the long course of the author’s scientific and legal activities involving the complex debate over the health risks of man-made environmental electromagnetic fields. The book offers far more than a solution to the contentious health issue. The story provides a portal into how science actually works, which you will see differs dramatically from the romantic notion of an objective search for truth. You will understand that science is a human enterprise, all too human, inescapably enmeshed in uncertainty. This realization has the potential to change your life because it will likely affect whom you choose to believe, and with what degree of confidence.”

Traumadelic & Trauma Culture - Brian James18 Jan 202501:26:21

"Trauma has been used to explain every conceivable human ailment. Like any successful religion, it presents the cause of your suffering with one hand and offers the cure with the other. “It soon became clear to me that in the often intersecting worlds of yoga, psychedelics and therapy, there was an overwhelming emphasis on being “trauma-informed,” which is another way of saying that you subscribe to the basic precepts of trauma culture: that everyone has experienced childhood trauma to a greater or lesser degree (“Big T” trauma or “Little T” trauma); that childhood trauma is the root cause of our adult problems; and if we are able to uncover our childhood trauma we can, with the help of a trauma-informed therapist, work to process it, transform it, release it, and eventually overcome it, all in order to become the best version of our self, free from anger, addiction and other coping and defense mechanisms. In short, to become enlightened.”

That may sound like an exaggeration, but you only need to peruse the multitude of workshops, trainings, and online conferences to see for yourself how trauma-informed therapies are being touted as a universal panacea for everything from procrastination to PTSD.”

“The focus of my critique is specifically the ways in which trauma culture has captured the most recent psychedelic renaissance, which many hoped would facilitate an expansion of collective consciousness. Instead, I argue that psychedelics have been co-opted and instrumentalized in a larger neoliberal, capitalist project that aims to keep us disempowered, depoliticized and dependent on the industrial medical complex.

Trauma has been used to explain every conceivable human ailment. Like any successful religion, it presents the cause of your suffering with one hand and offers the cure with the other. It has infiltrated and absorbed existing and emerging industries — first psychotherapy, then yoga, and now the burgeoning psychedelic therapy culture.

Traumadelic Culture is the promotion of psychedelics as panacea (universal remedy), for the pannósos (universal ailment) of trauma.”

“Because the ‘traumatic’ view of early years so con- trols psychological theory of personality and its devel- opment, the focus of our rememberings and thelanguage of our personal story telling have already been infiltrated by the toxins of these theories. Our lives may be determined less by our childhood than by the way we have learned to imagine our childhoods. We are less damaged by the traumas of childhood than by the traumatic way we remember childhood as a time of unnecessary and externally caused calamities that wrongly shaped us.”
