The Long Journey Back Home

In this episode, we’re finally catching you up on the whirlwind journey that brought our family from Provence to Southern California. We share everything from packing up our entire lives during France’s worst heat wave in 70 years, to the chaos of traveling internationally with nearly four-year-old twins and 16 pieces of luggage, to making one last unforgettable stop in London before officially starting this next chapter. It was exhausting, emotional, and at times completely ridiculous, but it’s a journey we know we’ll never forget.

We also reflect on what it felt like to leave behind the country that shaped us so deeply over the last three years. France challenged us in every possible way, but it also gave us lifelong friendships, incredible memories, a stronger family, and the confidence that comes from doing hard things. As bittersweet as it was to say goodbye, arriving in California felt surprisingly aligned. We talk about why this move feels right for our family, our work, and this new season of life, while celebrating everything our time abroad gave us.

Finally, we share what's next for Away We Go We Go. While our address has changed, our mission hasn't. This podcast has always been about choosing adventure, embracing growth, and building a life with intention, no matter where in the world you are. We share why April and May are truly peak season and how we’d plan an ideal day depending on the kind of experience you’re after—whether that’s slow countryside exploring, a lively market and shopping day, or soaking in the coastline.

We break it down into three different day scenarios. First, a dreamy countryside day through the Luberon—starting with a sunrise drive, wandering through markets in Gordes, enjoying a relaxed, incredible lunch, and ending with wine and dinner surrounded by vineyards. Then we shift into a more high-energy, market-filled day around Aix-en-Provence, packed with antiques, food markets, shopping, and even tulip fields. Finally, we share a coastal day that blends relaxing by the water in Cassis with the option to level it up into a sunset dinner overlooking the Mediterranean in Èze.

The hardest year brought me to my knees, but it also built resilience, perspective, and a deeper appreciation for the life we’ve created. When I look around now—the spring markets, the slow mornings, the joy in simple things—I can trace it all back to the messy, uncertain parts I once questioned.

That’s where amor fati lands for me: not just accepting your past, but loving it. Every setback, every uncomfortable leap, every moment you thought you got it wrong—it’s all been working for you. There is no perfect path, just the next step in a story already unfolding. And when you stop trying to rewrite what’s behind you, you unlock the energy to build what’s ahead. So instead of asking “why did this happen?”, I’m asking “what did this make possible?” Because the life I love today exists because things didn’t go to plan—and that changes everything.
