Your Dreams Are Closer Than You Think | Season 5 Finale LIVE @ AAAA 2026 ft. AAAA President Emily Mycyk14 May 202600:43:26

The 2026 AAAA* President had a marketing undergrad degree, years in hospitality as a bartender, one EMT night class, and a long stretch of prerequisites. This might not sound like the “perfect” route into the CAA profession, but it can be the exact training ground to build a great CAA and an even better leader. We recorded this LIVE Season 5 Finale on April 10th, 2026 from the AAAA National Conference main stage (my podcasting dream come true). It also ended up being one of my favorite conversations, not only because Emily openly discusses her imposter syndrome and test anxiety, but because it will make your big dreams feel possible again.

[PROCESS] CAAs Can Rewrite The Rules Of Work with Harmony Founder, Rad Zamani, CAA21 Nov 202501:00:22

A denied $10 raise shouldn’t define a career, but it can redefine one. When Rad hit a wall advocating for fair market pay, he realized the problem wasn’t personal, it was structural. So he built leverage instead of waiting for permission, and Harmony Anesthesia Staffing was born.

3 Undetectable Ways to Regulate in the OR | Wellness Wednesdays29 Oct 202500:17:12

***@ 14:42 my podcast software thinks "voo-ing is a "removable background noise" so this episode may be best experienced on YouTube

Have you ever searched for wellness resources that truly understand what it means to be a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant? You're not alone. Wellness Wednesday are candid conversations about the unique challenges and opportunities facing CAAs in their pursuit of sustainable wellbeing.

In this episode I relate how OR life can jack your nervous system into overdrive... constant alarms, literal hammering, a sudden “patient’s moving", and yet our role as a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant demands we have steady hands and a clear head. I unpack three discreet, science-backed techniques you can use behind the drape to quiet the buzz without calling attention to yourself. Think long, quiet exhales that nudge your vagus nerve, a quick dose of tension-then-release to steady your hands, and a soft “voo” on the breath that taps the laryngeal branches of the vagus for an extra parasympathetic boost.

Whether you're a practicing CAA, AA student, or prospective applicant, this episode marks the beginning of a community-centered approach to wellness that finally names and validates your experience. Welcome in.

FYI "To "regulate" means to monitor and adjust one’s internal state—such as emotions, thoughts, or physiological responses—in order to maintain balance and support adaptive behavior." so says ChatGpt

You Can't Do Everything | Wellness Wednesdays01 Oct 202500:20:28

Have you ever searched for wellness resources that truly understand what it means to be a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant? You're not alone. Wellness Wednesday are candid conversations about the unique challenges and opportunities facing CAAs in their pursuit of sustainable wellbeing.

In this episode, we discuss the quiet tug-of-war between boundless ambition and a life that actually feels good (especially for high-achieving CAAs, SAAs, and pre-AAs trained to do more, faster, and better). We unpack the core idea, “you can do anything, but you can’t do everything”, and sit with the grief inside it. Every 'yes' creates a cascade of invisible no’s, and pretending that doesn’t hurt keeps us stuck. Naming seasons changes the game.

Whether you're a practicing CAA, AA student, or prospective applicant, this episode marks the beginning of a community-centered approach to wellness that finally names and validates your experience. Welcome in.

Meditation begins around 4:33

This isn't just about managing stress; it's about nurturing an inner resilience that's often overlooked. By allowing positive qualities to infiltrate our thoughts and emotions, we reinforce the strength within us, reminding ourselves that resilience is cultivated, not inherited. Pre-AA to CAA [PROCESS] Part 1. Meet Britton, Pre-reqs, Application ft. Britton Robinson18 Feb 202600:29:28

This new take on the PROCESS series is at the core of what I love to share, the messy middle. What if you could witness the making of a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant in real time, not as a polished highlight reel, but as it is actually unfolding? In all things, I care far less about the end result and far more about who you are in the becoming.

This Pre-AA to CAA PROCESS series follows Brittany Robinson as her journey unfolds from 2024 through 2028, an ongoing conversation that captures the growth, the pivots, the waiting, and the wins along the way. It is about honoring growth as it happens and having the courage to tell your story before you know how it will end. This is the Pre-AA to CAA [PROCESS] of Britton Robinson.

UPDATE: Trailblazing the CAA Licensure Movement in Nevada ft. Stephanie Zunini, CAA01 Nov 202400:25:48

This is an update to Stephanie Zunini's original PROCESS episode 35 released September 1st, 2023. We catch up with Stephanie more than a year later to discuss the arduous process required to actually practice in a new state after passing a CAA licensure bill. Stephanie's experience in Nevada highlights the emotional and physical toll of this long, slow legislative process. She shares the behind the scenes of why she made the incredibly hard decision to leave her thriving career in Denver to move to a less than perfect set-up in Nevada. With her eyes set on working in Reno, Stephanie's journey is a powerful reminder of the influence one person can have on an entire profession. My hope is that Stephanie's story inspires others to be change makers in their own states.

Listen to the original [PROCESS] episode HERE

Nevada bill AB 270 was signed into law on June 9th, 2023 thereby giving CAAs legal status to practice anesthesia in the state of Nevada. Learn more about the CAA legislative process by watching other CAA legislative testimonials and listen to episodes 35, 36, 56.

a little update + CAA mindfulness practice11 Jul 202400:20:24

Hello from my summer break! I am in the midst of a mindfulness teacher training through Dharma Moon and Tibet House and was challenged by my 1:1 teacher to lead a group practice on the pod. Unfortunately, I realized (after edits) that I forgot to tell you what to do with your eyes! For this practice you want to keep your eyes open, and softly gazing down. If you have never tried a mindfulness practice with eyes open (like me up until 4 weeks ago), I want to validate that it can be uncomfortable but also worth the effort. The goal is to narrow the gap between your meditating life and your regular life with eyes open.

I hope you enjoy this episode and find it helpful to learn about mindfulness from a fellow practicing CAA. Mindfulness has saved me in so many ways and has brought so many good things into my life. I can't wait to share more!

What To Do Before You Do a BIG Thing05 Apr 202400:26:59

As a CAA I know you have faced many make or break moments. But, how did you make it through? When I reflect on my near 2 decades as a CAA and all the challenges I have overcome, I can see a framework develop as my "pre-game" ritual if you will. Of course your hard thing  is not always about professional challenges- weddings, babies, coming out journeys, first days, last days, and everything in between. CAAs are uniquely pursuing their best lived lives and that generally means we are leaning into discomfort and out of the status quo. As I near my next big thing (speaking at the AAAA 2024) I am reflecting on the routines and mindset shifts that have supported me through all the BIG moments of my adulthood. In my 4-part framework I discuss my unique mindset around preparation, the finesse of practice, my "trust and letting go" phase, and the power of my confidence boosting ritual. While this framework doesn't guarantee the exact outcome I desire it always allows me to do my best and I hope it does the same for you!

Finding Balance and Overcoming Addiction: A Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant's Journey ft. Kelsey Koehler15 Mar 202401:03:11

Kelsey Koehler, CAA bravely shares the darker moments of her life, including a personal struggle with alcohol that led to 2 DUIs a week apart.  Her story is a beacon for CAAs, illuminating the stark reality of substance misuse in our community. Her proactive approach to recovery and commitment to transparency with the Missouri state medical board and her own support circle exemplify the profound strength it takes to rebuild a life.

In our candid discussion, we move beyond Kelsey's individual story to address mental health in healthcare, unraveling the critical need for empathy and connection among CAA colleagues. This episode stands as an invitation to the medical community, especially our fellow CAAs, to embrace vulnerability, foster a culture of openness, and extend a hand to those silently battling personal demons. Kelsey's story will resonate deeply with anyone who has ever faced—or could face—the daunting intersection of personal hardship and professional responsibility. Join us as we lay bare the struggles that unite us and the strength we can find in each other.

What's Coming in 202422 Dec 202300:15:57

One of the main themes of my adult life has been learning to release my strangle hold on what I am "meant to do" when it is clear the thing is not meant for me right now. In summary- learning to have some trust and patience! My still small voice (aka my intuition) has been repeating the same message over and over again for years-"nothing meant for you will pass you by." In 2024 I am taking the aligned action to listen to that voice more clearly. This episode is also an invitation to you. An invitation to embark on your own self-discovery, growth, and manifestation journey. What's waiting for you just on the other side?
