Business Books Most Recommended To Me19 Apr 202100:04:05

I used to be a part of the wonderful Rebel Book Club until my daughter came along and eradicated all reading time.

Now she’s a little older, I find that recommendations of non-fiction books from people I respect are the best way to choose my material for the precious little time I have to read.

But why hog all the fun? I thought you’d like to hear them too, so I’ve made a compilation of the 6 most recommended books here.

Steven Novick, Founder At Farmstand, on the Real Priorities When Founding A Food-Tech Business28 Mar 202100:44:26

As founder at Farmstand, Steven Novick is  developing the future of food-tech business.

Farmstand promises to deliver healthy, convenient, affordable meals, feed your family in 5 minutes from £4.50/person, use no added sugar, and create no packaging waste.

The New York Times said of the company, "with economical breakfast, lunch and dinner, this is wellness for all.”

And with a background in investment banking, venture capital and environmental impact accelerators, plus as a builder of 2 billion-dollar businesses, climber of summits, if anyone can do it, it's Steven.

Steven says of his passion for this project: "Beating cancer made me passionate about healthy food and growing up working class made me appreciate affordability + convenience which is why I started Farmstand. When Covid hit I sold my house to fund our pivot into a DTC healthy, convenient, affordable meal delivery subscription service."

Steven knows that although product is vital, an aspirational brand is key to Farmstand's success, that's why he's engaged Kaffeen fave, B&B studio. This may be about food, but when it comes to references for his merch, Steven links back to Patagonia, LuluLemon and Gym Shark.

So listen in to hear more about what a founder really has on their mind when they approach a design agency to help them develop their future-thinking food brand.

Ps. Would you like to reach more client side decision makers like Steven? Book a call to discuss how.

6 Items Under £175 Total to Keep Your Power on New Biz Calls at Home15 Mar 202100:04:16

2020 taught us a lot about working from home, but for many of the businesses I work with, the spare room has been their home office for longer than Covid has dominated the headlines.

One thing I feel has impacted smaller, creative businesses disproportionately in 2020, are challenges around asking for money when working from home.

Here are 6 items that cost less than £175 total, to allow you to claim your power back on your next virtual money meeting.

How to Move to Mexico Whilst Growing a Thriving UK Agency, with Tom Hardy of Manifesto Studios01 Mar 202100:36:39

Today I'm delighted to be joined by Tom Hardy, founder and creative director at Manifesto Studios. 9 years young , Manifesto is a self-described Brand & Communications Accelerator. They're a consultancy and design studio specialising in collaborating with challenger brands.

Their clients include Samsung, Red Bull, Vashi Jewellery, Savse (Where a previous Kaffeen Espresso podcast guest, Natasha Lytton, was marketing lead), Myla lingerie and Padella, one of London's hottest restaurants (which my husband looks longingly at every-time we're near the Shard).

Prior to Manifesto, Tom accumulated his years of experience at prestigious brand design agencies like Interbrand, Fitch, Rufus Leonard, Lambie Nairn, and more.

Having worked with Tom when I was the client, I can safely say that he's one of the nicest and most chilled (and yet ambitious) people I've come across in design.

I'm pleased to say that Manifesto Studios thrived in 2020. In fact it has adapted so well on the remote set up, that Tom has recently taken it to a new level, having moved to Mexico whilst continuing to lead his agency. I'm confident you'll come away from this episode inspired about how to make current circumstances fuel your passion for growth, rather than diminish it.

  • How did Manifesto grow in 2020?
  • What client traits do you feel were most appreciated by the team during this trying time?
  • And what traits do you feel the Manifesto Studios team boast that helped you to power through?

Effortless Ways to See Your Prospects’ Buying Signals08 Feb 202100:03:01

There’s nothing more disheartening for you or annoying for the prospect, than an ill-timed or irrelevant new business approach.

Unless you have something of value to share, the only other time you should reach out to a prospect (to avoid being annoying) is when you have a clear signal that they might be preparing to buy your services.

But how on earth to know when is the right time? Here are a few of my go tos.

Mark St Andrew is an Event programmer and Creative PR and communications leader with more than 20 years experience. Mark is currently curating programming for www.tortoisemedia.com, the slower, wiser news platform. He is also founder of https://www.brandculturetherapy.com/.

Frankly, Mark is one of the smartest, most diplomatic and genuine people I had the pleasure to work with during my time in agency, and I can’t think of anyone better to ask about how to pitch better to events organisers and journalists. Listen in if you want to know more about how to get your agency in front of clients at events

Capturing Images That Catch Your Prospect's Eye and Budget24 Nov 202000:32:06

One of the things I find most frustrating about working with smaller sized design agencies is that they can't stand still long enough to shout about their work when it launches. One of the most significant barriers that most mention is that they can't get photography done in time and to the standard they want. Due to cost, mainly.

In this episode of the Kaffeen Espresso podcast, I talk with Rebecca Douglas. Rebecca is the most efficient and adaptable photographer I've come across. She works wonders capturing beautiful imagery for brands, that allows them to shut up and let the product do the talking. I think good photography is one of the best tools to make your agency come across as authoritative and confident, regardless of your size and location.

I regularly tell clients that their case studies should be as simple as client objective, commercial results, client quote, and accompanied by spectacular imagery that shows the design off, without needing a wordy rationale next to it. So trust me, you're going to want to listen in to learn how to harness the power of images for your agency, and perhaps even hook up with Rebecca on one of her Subscription Club or Brand Shoot Day products, as I have.

This episode is 30 mins, so grab your cup of coffee, delete those junk emails and treat your ears here. Ps. I've just recorded a conversation about a little used, but highly successful, method of cold outreach, so hit subscribe in Spotify to make sure you don't miss the next episode.

What If You Didn’t Tell Anyone Where You Were Based?24 Nov 202000:46:26

The past few months have made all of us rethink work location. Whether you’re thinking of scrapping the studio, desperate to get back or want to book a one-way ticket to leave the country, we’ve all got new possibilities and challenges playing on our minds when it comes to what we say on the ‘contact’ page of the website.

In this episode of the Kaffeen Espresso podcast, I talk with Holly Griffin. Holly is the founder of Design Hungry collective, a highly successful businessperson, traveller extraordinaire. And someone I’m lucky enough to call a best friend. Holly is doing over six figures with no employees on the books, this year she has split her time between Singapore, Devon and Canada, but her contact page says "We're everywhere so you can be anywhere"

Here, I talk to Holly about her approach to business, why her client relationships are so enduring, how she uses geo-arbitrage to half the length (and double the profitability) of projects, and much more. This episode is 50 mins, so you might want to dip in and out, listen in the car or while you're on a repetitive task. But I'm sure you're going to get as much out of understanding Holly's unique approach to business as I did through the course of our conversation. So grab your cup of coffee and treat your ears.

Leverage the Competition: Use Your Competitors’ Networks to Win Clients08 Nov 202400:18:45

Wouldn’t connecting with people already interested in your industry would be great? This episode introduces a powerful and underused LinkedIn lead-generation strategy: using competitors and advocates to expand your audience. By leveraging connections from competitors or supporters, you can reach an audience already primed for your services. Join us to learn how to tap into these networks to grow your LinkedIn following and client base.

👉 Watch the full training and claim your bonus: https://www.kaffeen.club/3-simple-ways-training-register

Why Leverage Competitors and Advocates?

Your competitors have likely built relationships with the exact type of clients you want to reach, while advocates—supporters of your business who aren’t direct competitors—may also have connections to your target audience. Using their LinkedIn networks, you can reach high-quality prospects already familiar with your industry.

Key Takeaways:

1.Identify Competitors and Advocates:

•Start by making a list of competitors who offer similar services and advocates who have referred you business in the past.

•These individuals already have access to the clients you’d like to connect with, giving you a head start.

2.Use LinkedIn’s ‘Connections of’ Feature:

•LinkedIn Sales Navigator allows you to view connections of a specific person. Simply enter the name of a competitor or advocate, and Sales Navigator will show you their connections.

3.Refine Your Audience:

•Use filters like job title, location, or industry to narrow your search. This helps you focus on the most relevant prospects for your business, such as marketing directors in the creative sector.

4.Create Custom Lists:

•Organise these prospects into a list and personalise your outreach. Mention the mutual connection in your message to make the approach feel warm and natural.

Why This Strategy Works:

By leveraging existing connections, you can bypass cold outreach and connect with people who are already aware of your industry. This saves time and increases your chances of building relationships with prospects who are genuinely interested in your offer.

How to Expand Your Market with LinkedIn’s Geographical Filters06 Nov 202400:16:54

In today’s global business landscape, you don’t have to limit yourself to finding clients in your local area. In this episode, we dive into a powerful strategy for expanding your market reach on LinkedIn: using geographical filters. Whether you’re a coach or a creative business owner, LinkedIn Sales Navigator makes it simple to connect with clients worldwide. Join us as we break down exactly how to use geographical filters to grow your client base and reach new markets beyond your local area.

👉 Join the live training: https://www.kaffeen.club/3-simple-ways-training-register

Why Expand Your Market?

Many business owners only reach out to local clients, but LinkedIn allows you to connect with decision-makers from different regions and continents. By expanding your market, you can increase your client base, grow your business faster, and take advantage of opportunities in various geographical areas.

Key Takeaways:

1.Set Your Geographical Preferences:

•Use LinkedIn Sales Navigator’s location filter to target specific regions or countries.

•Focus on regions where your services are in demand. For example, if you’re based in the UK, try expanding into Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the US, or South Africa.

2.Example Markets:

•Identify potential markets that align with your offerings, especially English-speaking countries if language could be a barrier.

•Adjust the location filter to connect with these regions and broaden your reach.

3.Layer Your Search:

•Combine geographical filters with criteria like job title and industry to ensure high-quality leads that fit your business goals, even if they’re in a different country.

4.Save and Segment:

•Organize your leads by geography. This makes personalizing your outreach easier, helping you tailor messages based on location.

Why This Strategy Works:

The internet allows you to connect with potential clients across the globe, breaking down geographical boundaries. By leveraging LinkedIn’s geographical filters, you can find clients who are ready to work with you, regardless of location, and create a scalable approach to growing your business.
