How to Easily Save Your Own Seeds17 May 202500:13:15

Have you ever walked out to your garden and spotted your lettuce, cilantro, or radishes suddenly shooting up a tall flower stalk? It’s called bolting, and while it may seem like your crop is ruined, it’s actually an amazing opportunity to save seeds, attract pollinators, and become a more skilled gardener.

In this episode, I’m walking you through exactly why plants bolt, what it means for your garden, and how to collect seeds the right way. You’ll learn which cool-season crops are most likely to bolt, how to know when seeds are mature, and how to avoid common seed-saving mistakes like unwanted cross-pollination. I’ll even share a few space-saving tips for small gardens and explain why heirloom seeds are the best choice for beginner seed savers.

6 Summer Crops You Should ONLY Direct Sow (Here’s Why)01 May 202500:08:31

In this episode I’m sharing why some of the most popular summer crops actually do better when you skip transplants and plant them directly from seed. Garden centers often sell started plants too early or in ways that don’t set you up for long-term success—especially for crops like basil, beans, cucumbers, melons, okra, and squash.

I’ll walk you through exactly how and why I direct sow each of these six crops and the simple steps you can follow to get better results in your own garden. You’ll also learn helpful tips to improve your direct sowing success, including how to maintain soil moisture, watch for proper soil temperature, protect your young seedlings, and reseed bare spots when needed.

If you’ve ever struggled with growing summer crops or felt unsure about when to plant what, this episode will simplify the process and give you the confidence to plant directly by seed. Be sure to check out my full Direct Sowing Seeds for Success Masterclass linked below.

Companion Planting Explained: What Actually Works (and What Doesn’t)24 Apr 202500:06:19

Is companion planting actually helpful? Here's what you need to know. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by all the colorful charts showing which plants are “friends” or “foes,” you’re not alone—and you’re definitely not the only one wondering if companion planting is more myth than magic.

In this episode of the Audrey’s Little Farm Show, I’m sharing what companion planting really is (and what it’s not), busting some of the biggest myths, and showing you how to use it in a simple, practical way that actually supports your garden.

You’ll learn how thoughtful plant pairings can attract beneficial insects, improve soil health, and naturally manage pests—without having to memorize complicated do’s and don’ts. We’ll also talk about which plant combos to skip (like fennel next to… anything!) and how focusing on diversity, not perfection, is the real secret to a thriving garden.

Whether you’re growing in raised beds, containers, or right in the ground, you’ll walk away with fresh ideas to build a more balanced, resilient garden—without the stress.

The Danger of Planting too Early 19 Apr 202400:12:08

When you plant warm season crops too early you’re not getting a head start. In fact, planting too early may cause more harm than good! When you plant too soon when temperatures are too cool it can cause stunted plant growth, wilting, surface pitting, foliage necrosis, increase disease, and prevent healthy root development.

So even when somebody says to plant early to get a head start you need to make sure the weather is favorable for plant growth. In today's show I'll be going over all of the details.
