| 174-MEMORIAL MONDAY- KATHY WAGNER | 02 Oct 2023 | 01:20:05 | |
A “vivid and moving memoir” that shows the “redemptive blessing of healing and compassion.” ~ Dr. Gabor Matte, Author of The Myth of Normal While we've moved away from our weekly Memorial Monday episodes, they remain a crucial essence of our mission. This week, we're honored to have Kathy Wagner, an author whose work has been recognized by the esteemed Gabor Maté. She joins us to reminisce about her son Tristan: the joys, the challenges, and the profound journey of loving someone entrenched in addiction. Navigating the heartbreak of losing her youngest at just 21 to fentanyl poisoning, Kathy offers insights and lessons that continue to guide her healing process. Find a copy of this compelling read or follow Kathy's writings at https://www.kwagnerwrites.com/ If you have a nonprofit or fundraiser that you would like to advertise for free and spread a five-minute dose of kindness to the world while doing it, you can on the latest Chuck LaFLange Production, Morning Cup of Kindness. | 171-MATT KEAGAN | 27 Sep 2023 | 01:13:59
Matt Keagan shares his journey with us. From scripts and partying with his parents, to prison, to sobriety, to relapse, to a recovery influencer on social media, Matt's story is one to inspire. https://www.tiktok.com/@mattkeeganrecovery https://www.instagram.com/mattkeeganrecovery/
Chris Horder, aka Chuck LaFlange, transformed his life from a 25-year addiction to founding the "Ashes to Awesome" podcast. His journey, marked by estrangement and challenges, changed with his mother's affirmations of love and the loss of his father, Peter, in 2022. This loss and his mother's support catalyzed Chris's recovery and the birth of his podcast, initially a personal therapy tool, now a platform for spreading love and understanding to those battling addiction. Despite financial struggles and reliance on family and sponsors, Chris's podcast has grown into a global movement. Key support came from the Yatra Trauma Centre in Thailand, leading to Chris's move there for treatment and financial relief. He now seeks funding for an Education Visa to continue his work in Thailand. | 157 - MY SONS LAST BREATH TOOK MY BREATH AWAY | 21 Aug 2023 | 01:05:44
Amanda Staller is indeed a woman in recovery that walks with dignity and pride. She also recovers out loud, using her own recovery capital. She has walked the life of an addict in active, seen and been through the worst of times, and has suffered losses to the opioid epidemic, including a child and two partners, as recently as this year. Still, though, she walks with the talk, by helping others raise themselves up, and living authentically and without apology for the inspiration she is to all those lucky enough to know her. | 153- BENJAMIN LERNER PART ONE | 15 Aug 2023 | 00:46:47
Benjamin Lerner, the Great-grandson of Irving Berlin (composer of such iconic tunes as “God Bless America” and “White Christmas”), is a Vermont-based Composer, Writer, Radio Host, and Recovery Advocate. Benjamin started his musical career as a classical piano prodigy. By his early twenties, he was an IV heroin and crack cocaine addict. Now sober since June 13, 2016, he journals his journey in addiction and sobriety in his all new piano-raps, which combine classical piano and rap. Benjamin credits his continued success in recovery to his ability to express his emotions relating to his struggle through word and song. “When I first went to rehab,” Benjamin admits, “I was afraid I wasn’t going to be able to make music anymore, because I made music about doing drugs for so long, I didn’t know if I’d be able to do it without getting high. It took getting clean for me to realize that expression and creativity are the drugs I’ve been searching for all along. I’m still a junkie. I just get high off of music now.” Benjamin has had the pleasure of performing for the National Academy of Medicine and The Aspen Institute. In 2019, he was the composer-in-residence at 1761 Arts, and he made his Carnegie Hall debut in April 2022 as part of the Indie Collaborative. His debut album, CLEAN, was released in February 2020. It was produced at Old Mill Road Recording in East Arlington, Vermont. Benjamin’s weekly column, also entitled, CLEAN, is read weekly in the Vermont News Guide and was syndicated in Seven Days in 2022. In January 2021, Benjamin started hosting CLEAN Jams on WEQX, an innovative radio program that shines a spotlight on rap, hip-hop, and recovery. CLEAN Jams is sponsored by Old Mill Road Media.
