Arsecast Extra Episode 601 - 02.09.202402 Sep 202401:34:59

In this episode we look back at the 1-1 draw with Brighton on Saturday, chatting first about how the game was going with Kai Havertz's excellent goal putting us in front, before we turn to the big incident: the Declan Rice red card. We discuss the referee's decision, and the consequences for the player and the team – which aren't limited to just this game. Then we talk about Arsenal's response, the goal we conceded, and the chances we had to take all three points. After the break there are questions about the transfer window, the arrival of Raheem Sterling and the window as a whole, Rice's role in this team which is now complicated by the Mikel Merino injury, a left-hand choice between Martinelli, Trossard and Sterling, and lots more.

Episode 792: Make signings, play the kids08 Aug 202401:05:00

In this episode I'm joined by Lewis Ambrose to chat about last night's 4-1 friendly win over Bayer Leverkusen. We analyse the very familiar looking team line-up in the context of Mikel Arteta's comments about needing more from the players we have, leading to discussion of Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz among others. There's also some focus on young players like Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri after they impress again, but how do you find the balance between their integration and further additions to the squad? There's some transfer discussion, Arteta's pickpocketing high jinx, and a goodbye from an old (angry) friend.

Episode 384 - Barcelona in Blazers18 Mar 201600:52:08
On the show this week I look back at the midweek trip to Barcelona, with some location recordings, vox-pops and more from the European trip I got back from last night at 1am. Please excuse my voice, or lack of it, it's been a long couple of days, and a man coughed on me and gave me the plague. I'm also joined by Roger Bennett, one half of the excellent Men in Blazers to chat about that and, as he's an Everton fan, to look ahead to tomorrow's game. I get his thoughts on that, Everton, Arsenal and lots more. There's some of the usual waffle, but tiredness means not too much.

Arsecast Extra Episode 110 - 14.03.201614 Mar 201601:15:13
This week's episode was recorded the evening of the 2-1 defeat to Watford in the FA Cup. London had cider, Dublin had wine, and we tried to make some sense of the performance, the result and what it means for the season in general. We discuss the manager, his performance and his position, and basically become ever more exasperated and disheartened at what's gone on and how likely, or unlikely, things are to change – on and off the pitch.

After a week of anger, frustration and dismay, we try and cut through that to make some sense of it all. I'm joined by Tayo Popoola and Tim Stillman to talk about the Swansea game, the performance, and why we couldn't raise ourselves properly after the United loss. We analyse the way we play, discuss Alexis Sanchez's comments and form, Joel Campbell, empty seats and, of course, Arsene Wenger. There's some of the usual waffle in there too but not as much as normal, which may or may not be a bad thing.

Arsecast Extra Episode 108 - 29.02.201629 Feb 201601:11:21
In this week's rather grim show, we look back at the defeat at Old Trafford yesterday and talk about what it means for our title challenge, for the players, the manager and the club. What should happen if Arsenal don't win the league this season? More important, what will happen, bearing in mind the board and the owner that make those decisions. We chat about Theo Walcott, possible permutations for the Swansea game on Wednesday, and lighten the mood by chatting about someone being carved in two by a primitive weapon. Fun and games.

On this week's show James, who thankfully was not eaten by a bear, and I, look back on the 2-1 FA Cup win over Burnley, returns for Francis Coquelin and Alexis Sanchez, and a debut from new boy Mohamed Elneny. We also discuss Alex Iwobi's shins, our favourite John Terry moments, transfer deadline day and what might happen, and there are some spoilers for Oscar nominated movie The Revenant – bringing us back around to the bear-theme that permeates this show. Also, James tries not to eat a baby by mistaking it for delicious baked goods.

Arsecast Extra Episode 103 - 25.01.201625 Jan 201600:58:48
On this week's show we discuss the disappointing, frustrating 1-0 defeat to Chelsea. On the agenda, the red card issued to Per Mertesacker; could we have done more to prevent that situation developing; the decision to take off Olivier Giroud; and what it all means for our title hopes. As well as that we answer listener questions about Theo Walcott and the Captain's Armband (probably the title of his new book), Mohamed Elneny and why we haven't see him yet, what team we should pick for the FA Cup this weekend, and lots more.

Episode 758 - Relationships 09 Nov 202301:01:45

In this episode I'm joined by Phil Costa to look back at our 2-0 win over Sevilla in the Champions League. It was a night for the wide men as both Bukayo Saka (goal + assist) and Gabriel Martinelli (assist + torture of Juanlu) were the difference makers. We talk about Saka's relationship with Leandro Trossard, William Saliba, Jorginho, Declan Rice, the overall performance, and how well Arsenal controlled and won the game despite how many players we had sidelined through injury. There's also a bit of time to look at some other CL results this week, not least Man Utd losing a game.

Arsecast Extra Episode 102 - 18.01.201618 Jan 201601:04:01
On this week's show we look back on the 0-0 draw with Stoke, the performances, and the display of Petr Cech who helped secure a point. There's the Aaron Ramsey chanting, Mesut Ozil's absence, and more on our midfield, before we answer listener's questions about taking quick free kicks, the baldness of referees, which players might be the best arm-wrestlers, as well as a seriously intense sauce based discussion which brings some AMAZING REVELATIONS.
