26 | Sleepless in Menopause: Why You Have Inomnia & 4 Natural Sleep Aids for Better Sleep16 Jul 202400:23:17

How’s your summer going? Are you getting ready to go on vacation? Or maybe you’re on vacation right now???

Today’s episode was actually inspired by a mini vacay I took to Palm Springs in the spring. It was hot! Not record-breaking 126-degree weather hot like it was over the Fourth of July weekend… But hot enough that I had trouble sleeping.

If you’re in menopause, postmenopause, or even perimenopause, maybe you can relate. Hormonal changes in our 40s and 50s can cause insomnia or contribute to problems sleeping by themselves. But when you add summer into the mix? Good luck catching those beauty ZZZs!

Today, I’m continuing my “Hot Flash Summer” podcast series on how to beat the heat and keep your hormones in check so you can live your best “Hot Girl Summer.”

In the Hot Seat today: How summer can sabotage our sleep

According to a study by WellFemme, up to 60% of all women experience sleep disturbances at some point during the menopausal transition. That means 1 in 6 of us have good reason to be tired, cranky, and pretty much unable to focus most of the time.:) In today’s episode, you will learn:

  • Why sleep is important for our hormones

  • The connection between summer, sleep, and hormonal imbalance, specifically in menopausal and post-menopausal women

  • Is your sleep position the reason you can’t sleep at night and what is the best sleep position for women in midlife?

Plus, I’ll share my 4 favorite tips for getting a good night's sleep on summer vacation….and ALL summer long.

So hold onto your melatonin, cuz’ help for better summer sleep is on the way!

21 | Slow Metabolism, Blood Sugar Balance And The Sneaky Saboteur of Weight Loss in Perimenopause25 Jun 202400:24:35

Hey friend,

For the last 6 weeks, I’ve been discussing the 7 most common hormonal imbalances that cause weight gain in perimenopause and beyond.

Today, I want to share one last sneaky saboteur of weight loss–especially in women over 40–that has a little to do with hormones and a lot to do with metabolic function.

Age-Related Insulin Resistance often occurs in menopause and post-menopause due to something called hormone dysregulation–a natural shift in hormone production that makes women over 40 more susceptible to blood sugar imbalance. If you’re gaining weight like crazy, no matter how little you eat or how much exercise you do, age-related insulin resistance may be to blame.

In today’s episode, you will learn:

  • What is age-related insulin resistance and are hormonal fluctuations in menopause the only cause?

  • The connection between high blood sugar, glucose, and insulin resistance

  • Surprising insulin resistance symptoms that go beyond cravings for sweets (Spoiler alert: Frequent yeast infections and tingling in fingers are a couple)

  • Does age-related insulin resistance cause weight gain? (Or does weight gain cause insulin resistance?)

  • And can you reverse insulin resistance? And if so, what does insulin resistance treatment look like?

Plus, I’ll share 3 quick tips to balance your blood sugar levels, boost your metabolism, and prevent metabolic syndrome, naturally.

So grab your notebook and a quick snack…preferably something high in protein (I’ll explain why later:)–as we stir the tea on all age-related things insulin resistance.

19 | “Not Tonight. I’m Too Tired, Stressed, Hormonal…”: 3 More Ways To Boost Libido in Menopause (Part 2)13 Jun 202400:37:47

Hey friend,

Happy National Sex Day!!! Did you celebrate it?

In case the date completely slipped your mind (blame it on perimenopause brain fog)...Or, like me, you never knew the day existed (and to be honest, do we really need the extra pressure of a NATIONAL sex day???....)

National Sex Day was observed on June 9th to commemorate the importance of sexual intimacy in relationships.

But for couples struggling with low libido, mismatched sex drives, or sexual anxiety, this day can bring a lot of undue stress.

On today’s episode, I’m joined by my husband, Rick, as we continue our special “Love & Hormones” Spring Series.

Warning: This episode features a candid discussion about sex and intimacy and may include explicit content not suitable for children.

In today’s episode, we’re diving into Part 2 of our episode on the biggest causes of low libido in women–and men–in midlife:

  • Medication side effects

  • Unhealthy diet effects

  • Hormone fluctuations and hormone imbalance

Plus, we’ll share some fast fixes for these low libido causes, including antidepressant alternatives, low glycemic foods, and tips on balancing hormones naturally.

So grab some water, tea, or red wine–all of which can help give you a boost in the bedroom!--as WE stir the tea on all things libido!

If you’ve never heard of PCOS or thought it was only something that affects women in their 20s or 30s, think again! It is this and other myths about PCOS that have earned it the nickname, “the silent disorder.”

PCOS affects an estimated 1 in 10 of every woman of reproductive age in the U.S., but the numbers are, in actuality, much, much higher, as 70% of all cases go undiagnosed! (More about that on today’s podcast.:)

In today’s episode, you will learn:

  • What exactly is polycystic ovary syndrome?

  • What causes polycystic ovary syndrome?

  • What are PCOS symptoms?

  • What causes polycystic weight gain?

  • What is the connection between PCOS and insulin resistance?

  • Why are so many women not getting a proper PCOS diagnosis?

  • What is traditional medicine's PCOS treatment vs holistic treatment?

  • Can polycystic ovary syndrome be cured?

Plus, I share 3 of my favorite tips to balance your hormones just in time for summer!

If you’re experiencing symptoms like abnormally heavy, short, or long periods without birth control along with oily skin or acne, hair loss, and unexplained weight gain–especially in your stomach (hello, PCOS belly), then this episode is for you!

  • What's the difference between high cortisol and adrenal fatigue?

  • What causes cortisol levels to be too high or too low?

9 | Six Warning Signs Your Supplements for Menopause and Perimenopause Might Be a Scam (Part 2)30 Apr 202400:18:26

Hey friend,

In today’s episode, we’re continuing a vital conversation about the efficacy and safety of supplements.

Supplements can be a real game-changer when it comes to our hormonal health, especially for those of us who want to balance our hormones without HRT or hormonal birth control....Or who don’t want to take prescription medication like sleeping pills, SSRIs, or anti-depressants to help ease certain perimenopause and menopause symptoms.

But there’s a dark side to supplements because they can be dangerous–fatal even.

Of the estimated 4,000 supplement manufacturers worldwide, the vast majority test for zero contaminants such as mercury, heavy metals, mold, bacteria, steroids, and even prescription drugs! And a recent Harvard study published in the Journal of American Medical Association found that two-thirds of all FDA-recalled dietary supplements analyzed still contained banned substances at least 6 months after being recalled!!

So how do you really know what's in your supplements and vitamins? In today’s episode, I’m sharing 6 warning signs your supplement may be a scam, including:

-  The hidden dangers of proprietary blend supplements

-  Quality control issues with gummies vitamins

-  Checks and balances of 3rd party testing

-  Social proof or scam?: Positive supplement reviews

-  "Pretty" toxins in vitamins

-  And supplement purity standards

Plus, you'll learn three things to look for to ensure you are taking quality supplements and what you need to know about 3rd party testing of supplement brands by the USP United States Pharmacopeia, NSF National Sanitation Foundation, and Consumer Labs Reviews.

If you or anyone in your family take vitamins, probiotics, or herbal supplements (that includes gummies, too), don’t miss this episode!

Hey friend,

Do you take supplements? If so, do you know what’s in your supplements? And how do you know if your supplements are actually helping rather than hurting your health?

In today’s episode, I pull back the curtain on the 37-billion supplement industry and share the good, the bad and the dangerous side of diet supplementation.

In this episode you will learn:

  • Do we really need supplements to balance our hormones and maintain proper nutrition?
  • Are supplements regulated by the FDA and does that matter?
  • Why aren’t all vitamins tested and what happens with a supplement recall?
  • Why are women in midlife BIG money (and huge targets) for supplement manufacturers?
  • Three factors to consider when shopping for supplements

If you're questioning whether supplements are a waste of money or whether your supplements may even worsening your existing hormone imbalance symptoms, you won’t want to miss this episode.

33 | Five Essential Travel Tips Every Perimenopausal Woman Needs To Know To Prevent Hormonal Imbalance [SUMMER SERIES]20 Aug 202400:26:31

Hey friend!

Are you getting ready to go on vacation this month? Me too! 🙋‍♀️

More than 82% of all US adults–or more than 212 million people–are planning to take a vacation this summer. (That’s a lot of luggage, lol!)

But all that travel can be hard on our hormones.

Because when we travel, our sleep, healthy eating, hydration, and regular exercise routine can all go sideways, in turn, impacting our blood sugar, gut health, and key hormones like estrogen, progesterone, and cortisol.

And when our hormones are out-of-whack, that can lead to us feeling bloated, moody, and, ok, I’m just gonna say it…”constipated,” and who wants to be that girl on vacation?!?

In today’s “Hot Flash Summer” podcast series episode, I’m sharing five essential travel tips every perimenopausal woman needs to know to help keep your hormones balanced so YOU can live your best Hot Girl Summer.

Join me as we discuss:

  • The best foods to eat to help you stay hydrated while flying

  • The one thing most people do while traveling that causes constipation

  • My favorite snacks to pack in an airplane carry-on (and, yes, TSA does allow you to bring your own food:)

  • To sleep or not to sleep on your flight (including my favorite supplement to help you relax)

  • Plus, the very first thing you should do when you land to avoid jet lag

If you’re planning on taking a trip this summer–or this year–and want to arrive at your destination feeling your best, this episode is for you.

Hey friend,

In today’s episode, I’m going to unpack one of the most misunderstood byproducts of hormone imbalance in perimenopause and menopause: food sensitivities.

Understanding what foods may be exacerbating an underlying hormonal imbalance and causing issues like stomach pain, eczema, constipation, headaches, inflammation in your joints, brain fog or even unwanted weight gain can be life-changing! In today’s episode, I’ll begin to unravel the mysteries of food and its effect on our hormones by sharing:

    - What is the root cause of food sensitivity?

     - 3 signs of food sensitivity

     - Can hormone imbalance cause food sensitivities?

     - What foods affect hormones the most

     - What foods flare up thyroid?

     - What foods are hard on adrenal glands?

     - Which foods increase estrogen levels?

     - Plus, 10 foods to avoid that cause hormonal chaos

Also in this episode, I share a special announcement about a new series I’m launching this week that you’re not going to want to miss!

— This episode’s “Thump on the Head”:

“Food is information, telling your body what to do. Every bite you eat affects your hormones, brain chemistry, and metabolism.” –Functional medicine doctor and 15x New York Best-selling author, Dr. Mark Hyman

5 | How Can I Check My Hormone Levels Myself in Perimenopause or Menopause?09 Apr 202400:23:42

Hey friend,

In today’s episode I’m going to answer a question I get asked all the time: Should you bother getting your hormone levels checked and is there a way to check your hormone levels yourself?

Understanding what’s going on with your hormones and what imbalance (or imbalances) you may have is the crucial first step in solving your hormonal puzzle and feeling like you again.

And it’s really a non-negotiable because if you don’t do anything about your hormone symptoms: 1.) They’re not going to go away by themselves, and 2.) They're not going to get any better. (In fact, not to be an alarmist or anything, but they’re probably going to get worse!)

In this episode you will learn:

    - The 4 types of hormone level tests

     - The problem with hormone levels in blood tests

     - What’s a hormone saliva test and what hormones does it test?

     - The difference between a hormone urine test and a DUTCH test for hormones

     - Hormone Synptom Profiling and hormone fluctuations

     - What method I chose to identify my hormone imbalance symptoms and why

I hope this episode clears up a lot of confusion you may have about hormone testing and gives you back some of your power when it comes to your health and your body.

— This episode’s “Thump on the Head”: “We need to move from a disease-care model to a “health-based model”...[which involves] teaching patients how to be their own clinician.”

4 | Why Is My Doctor Dismissing My Perimenopause Symptoms?02 Apr 202400:13:53

Hey beautiful!

Today, I’m going to spill the tea on a taboo topic: How much do our doctors really know about perimenopause–and share 6 reasons why your doctor may be dismissing your symptoms.

This episode was inspired by Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry’s recent confession that her doctor mistook her vaginal dryness–a common symptom of perimenopause and menopause–as ‘the worst case of herpes he had ever seen.” What the hell-o-menopause?!? In this episode you will learn:

- What should I do if my doctor doesn’t take my perimenopause symptoms seriously?

- Are there certain biases or misconceptions about perimenopause that could be         influencing my doctor’s dismissal of my symptoms?

- What role does gender bias play in the dismissal of perimenopause symptoms by doctors?

- Is it possible that my doctor is dismissing my perimenopause symptoms because they’re not familiar with the latest research or guidelines?

- Can hormone tests or other diagnostic tools help convince my doctor of the validity of my perimenopause symptoms?

I hope this episode informs you, inspires you, or makes you laugh a little (unless laughing makes you pee.:) — This episode’s “Thump on the Head”: I had decided I “was going to skip” perimenopause altogether. [I thought] “I’m in great shape. I’m healthy. I managed to get myself off of insulin and manage my diabetes since I was 20 years old. So that makes one think, ‘Oh, I can handle menopause. I’m going to skip that whole thing.’ I was so uneducated about it at that time.”

–Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry, Age 57

3 | What Are The Pros & Cons of Hormone Pellets in Menopause?26 Mar 202400:15:11

Hey girl!

Today I’m answering a question from a listener and AYTM Insider, “What is your take on bioidentical hormone pellets?

OMG! Where do I even begin?!?

Disclaimer: While I’m admittedly a little biased when it comes to this controversial topic, I’m going to be as diplomatic as possible as I highlight the good, the bad, and the criminally insane effects of BHRT pellets for managing menopause symptoms.

In this episode you will learn:

- The different types of hormone therapy

-  The two categories of BHRT Bio\identical Hormone Replacement Therapy,

- The benefits of BHRT pellets

- Whether bioidentical hormone pellets are FDA-approved

- The side effects of BHRT pellets

- Deceptive practices of hormone pellet therapy companies

I hope this episode informs you, inspires you, or makes you laugh a little (unless laughing makes you pee.:) — This episode’s “Thump on the Head”: (In regards to the manufacturers of hormone pellets): Their ads come across as these sort of mom-and-pop dippy shops, like the Celestial Seasonings of hormones….[But] many of them are large conglomerates….There’s no real monitoring system…You don’t really know WHAT you are taking. [And] suppliers can say whatever they like…[which] has led to making many people very wealthy.

2 | Why Does My Blood Test For Hormones Keep Coming Back “Normal”?18 Mar 202400:13:45

Hey girl!

In today’s episode, I will be diving into the US healthcare system, the ins and outs of conventional medicine, and why it's so darn difficult to get perimenopause support–especially from our doctors.

I’m also going to break down the five reasons why your hormone blood panel keeps coming back “normal.”

In this episode you will learn:

-  The limitations of blood tests to check hormone levels

-  When to get hormones tested

-  Estrogen vs. estradiol–what’s the difference?

-  What to ask to get added to your thyroid blood test TSH

-  Blood tests vs the Dutch test–which is better?

-  The most reliable way to tell if you are in perimenopause

I hope this episode informs you, inspires you, or makes you laugh (or maybe just feel less like an alien.:)

This episode’s “Thump on the Head” is from Author Susan MacNamara:

“The time for relying on outer authorities is over. It is YOUR body. It is YOUR'S to take care of.”

1 | How Do I Know If I’m In Perimenopause?18 Mar 202400:15:02

Hey girl!

In this first episode of the podcast, I will be answering a question I’m asked all of the time from clients:

Perimenopause: What is it and how do I even know I am in it?

I chose this question because I believe we can’t begin to heal and take back control of our hormones until we truly understand the shift that is happening in our midlife bodies.

In this episode, I’m going to get SUPER vulnerable and share with you my personal hormonal roller coaster story, as well as walk you through three tell-tale signs that you’re (probably) in perimenopause.

In this episode you will learn:

- What age does perimenopause start?

- How long will perimenopause last?

- Perimenopausal spotting and perimenopausal periods: What to expect

- Perimenopause and birth control: How synthetic hormones affect your body’s natural transition

- And what are the most common perimenopausal symptoms?*

*Stay tuned for a future episode where I take a deep dive into all the perimenopausal symptoms–including some outliers!

I hope this episode informs you, inspires you, or makes you laugh (or maybe just feel less like an alien.)

This episode’s “Thump on the Head”:

“No one says, ‘ED [Erectile Dysfunction] is just a normal part of growing older and men have to learn to live with it.’ We say, ‘This a typical thing and there’s treatment.”

So how is perimenopause any different?

TRAILER | What To Expect In Perimenopause…And Beyond.14 Mar 202400:05:15

Ugh. I feel so bloated. I’m retaining more water than the Hoover Dam.

What? Not another pimple? It’s like puberty all over again!

Sleep? What’s that like? (I forget.:<)

Umm, I just turned 40….. Aren’t I too young for this?!?

Hello Friend. (Can I call you “friend”? ‘Cuz we’re already friends in my head:)

Welcome to Are You There, Midlife? It’s Me, Monica. I’m Monica Lane Topete, Certified Holistic Health Coach and Hormone Imbalance Survivor. And I’m on a mission to help women in midlife balance their hormones naturally without drugs, doctors (or divorce!)

It wasn’t too long ago when perimenopause came crashing through my door with a ton of luggage (‘cuz she was prepared to stay for A WHILE!)

I remember how overwhelmed, anxious, and pretty much clueless I was about what was happening to my body…and how desperate I was for a diagnosis!

But, after SEVERAL visits to my doctor who gave me a clean bill of health and lab results that came back “within normal range,” I finally decided to take my health into my own hands.

I spent OVER A YEAR combing through PubMed research studies, taking online courses in naturopathy and functional medicine, and becoming my own human guinea pig to crack the hormone code and create a research-based program that really worked to balance my hormones, put the kibosh on perimenopause symptoms, and lose stubborn weight–and keep it off–for more than 10 years!

And now, I want to share it with you....

Join me each week as I demystify the hormonal transition in midlife and spill the ”tea” on what to expect when you’re expecting perimenopause…and beyond.

From anxiety to insomnia, body fat to funky body odor (yeah, that’s a thing!), I’ll unpack all the ”weird stuff” going on inside our midlife bodies, plus give you the latest science and holistic solutions to balance it all.

Girl, it’s TIME to take back control of your hormones and show ‘em who’s boss...so you can feel confident and love yourself again!

...And all without ever stepping foot inside a doctor’s office or resorting to crazy hormone pellets. No need to make an appointment or even change outta your PJs.

Just come as you are–wherever you are–as I discuss ALL things hormones in midlife–with a bit of saucy humor.

(‘Cuz laughing is better than crying, unless it makes you pee.:)

NEXT STEPS:

30 | Blood Sugar & Alcohol: How To Reduce The Effects of Alcohol On Perimenopause (Pt. 2) [SUMMER SERIES]06 Aug 202400:26:25

Hey friend!

Did you know today is officially the halfway point of summer? Yep! 47 days down and 47 days to go of sun, fun, and celebrating. (And by “celebrating,” I mean drinking.)

If you’re a woman in perimenopause or menopause and you feel like drinking this summer is hitting you a little differently, you may be right.

Research shows that hormonal shifts in mid life can affect the way our body metabolizes alcohol which can decrease our alcohol tolerance, increase our hangover severity, and exacerbate our perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms.

And if we’re not careful, all of that summer “celebrating” can push us right into a hormonal apocalypse come this Fall!

Today, I’m continuing my “Hot Flash Summer” podcast series and sharing 8 ways to reduce the effects of alcohol and keep your hormones in check so you can live your best Hot Girl Summer.

In today’s episode, you will learn:

  • Mocktails and the sober curious movement–Is it an option for you?

  • The best low-sugar wine for your hormones

  • How to time your drinking to prevent problems sleeping

  • The 3 best supplements to prevent dehydration symptoms and detoxify the liver

  • Which exercise helps balance blood sugar levels

If you’re someone who enjoys her summer cocktails…but not the weight gain, insomnia, or hot flashes it can trigger, this episode is for you.

“Celebrating” is synonymous with summer. From commemorating summer holidays like Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Father’s Day, and Labor Day weekend–to celebrating kids graduating from high school and college–to weddings, vacations and so much more.

In the Hot Seat today: Summer drinking, and how alcohol can affect and even exacerbate a hormonal imbalance

Alcohol can affect our hormones any time of year, but when we combine the heat and humidity of the summer along with the frequency in which we drink, it can really kick our perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms into overdrive. In today’s episode, we will unpack:

  • How alcohol causes vasomotor symptoms like hot flashes and headaches

  • The dehydrating affects of alcohol on your skin, sleep, and energy

  • The connection between alcohol, uterine fibroids, and Estrogen Dominance

  • How alcohol causes your libido and serotonin to plummet!

  • Plus, three reasons why alcohol may be contributing to your summer weight gain

37 | Is It Perimenopause…Or Something Else? 3 Tell-tale Perimenopausal Symptoms [AYTM Flashback]10 Sep 202400:17:11

Hey friend,

Today, we are taking a trip back in time.. going deep inside the podcast vault to revisit my very first episode of the pod: Ep. #1: “How Do I Know If I’m in Perimenopause?”

If you already listened to this episode in March, I’m resharing this episode for TWO VERY IMPORTANT REASONS:

1.) First, I’m launching a brand new series of the podcast this month where I’ll be taking a deep dive into more than 26 perimenopause and menopause symptoms–from Anxiety to Zits…and all the letters of the alphabet in between. And in order to get the MOST out of this series, I want to make sure you have a basic understanding of perimenopause, how it relates to its older sister, menopause, and how you can be sure if YOU’RE really going through it.

2.) Second, perimenopause can be difficult to diagnose. If you’ve ever had a visit with your doctor and brought up the “possibility” of perimenopause…and he looked back at you like that time your husband forgot your birthday…ya know what I’m talking about.:)

Not only are most doctors ill-equipped to treat patients in perimenopause, but there are a lot of other health issues that start to emerge right around the same age. And since there’s no ONE test to diagnose perimenopause, doctors can’t be sure whether your symptoms are due to a shift in your hormones…or something else entirely.

This episode is so important, it's worth repeating!

So, in today’s flashback episode, I’m getting SUPER vulnerable and sharing with you my personal hormone story, as well as walking you through three tell-tale signs that you’re in perimenopause.

In this episode you will learn:

  • What age does perimenopause start?

  • How long does perimenopause typically last?

  • Perimenopausal spotting and perimenopausal periods: What to expect

  • Perimenopause and birth control: How synthetic hormones affect your body’s natural transition

  • Plus: What are the most common perimenopausal symptoms?

Whether you just back home from a vacation where you completely fell off the healthy eating wagon, OR you’re feeling the effects of a little “too much” summer fun…and you’re not quite done yet...this episode is for you!

If you’ve got a laundry list of hormonal symptoms…and a copy of your latest lab results that says, “Everything is normal,” grab a notepad and just push play. —

38 | 8 Menopause Myths Debunked! What Your Mom, Bestie, (And Maybe Even Your Doctor) Haven’t Shared With You17 Sep 202400:19:50

Hey friend!

Today’s episode is all about menopause. It was inspired by a very revealing conversation I had on my recent vacation that reminded me how much of a mystery menopause STILL is to so many women.

In the United States, roughly 1.3 million women experience menopause every year. Globally, that number soars to 25 million! HALF of the world's population will go through menopause in their lifetime, yet there are STILL so many myths floating around this very natural midlife transition that make it misunderstood…and often misidentified.

That’s why I’m shining a light on 8 menopausal myths that your mom, bestie, (and maybe even your doctor) haven’t shared with you.

Join me as I discuss the top questions--and misconceptions--surrounding menopause, including:

  • Menopause: When does it start (and aren’t I too young for this?)

  • How can I be menopausal if I don’t have hot flashes?

  • Can I just take a blood test to tell whether I’m in menopause?

  • My mother didn’t have any menopausal symptoms so why do I?

  • How long does menopause last and can I still get pregnant if I’m not getting a regular period?

  • Why doesn’t my doctor bring up menopause (or why is she dismissing my symptoms when I do)?

  • Is HRT the only solution to balance my hormones in menopause?

If you’re between the ages of 40 and 55 and wondering if you may be in menopause, too…this episode is for you. I guarantee by the end of this episode you’re going have a lot more clarity on exactly where YOU  are in the menopause transition–and feel a whole lot more hopeful about your options.:)

40 | Feeling Anxious? 5 Tips to Reduce Panic Attacks & Anxiety, Naturally [Perimenopause: From A-Z]01 Oct 202400:20:13

Hey friend!

Quick mental health check: Have you felt more anxious, tense, or “on edge” lately? If you’re nodding your head or counting on both hands the number of times you snapped at a loved one this week, you’re not alone!

According to a recent study of 40,000 perimenopausal and menopausal women, nearly 60% reported severe anxiety or depression!!!

Another study reports that one in three of all women going to their doctor for mood swings or other mood-related symptoms of perimenopause and menopause are offered anxiety medication as the sole solution.

The problem is: If you’re in your mid-30s to mid-50s, the irritability, anxiety, or anger you’re feeling is likely not just “in your head”; it’s in your hormones.

And while SSRIs may sometimes help, they can often just be a bandaid for other hormonal symptoms that will only continue to worsen over time.

So what can you do to ease your anxiety without drugs, doctors (or divorce?)

Join me for today’s episode as we unpack:

  • The root cause of perimenopausal and menopausal anxiety

  • Why your anxiety medication isn’t working…or is no longer working

  • Whether oral contraceptives can help balance hormone-related mood swings

  • Plus, 5 tips to reduce your anxiety, naturally

If you’re 1 in 4 women in perimenopause through post-menopause dealing with anxiety, intense mood swings, or personality changes, this episode is for you!

39 | Irritable? Having Trouble Sleeping? Dealing With Chronic Low Energy Or Fatigue?...Why It Might Be Time for A Liver Detox24 Sep 202400:19:02

Hey friend!

Today’s show is all about the liver and how to help your body cleanse and detoxify itself naturally.

I just recently returned from a 2-week Mediterranean cruise where I drank coffee and cocktails all day, stayed up to into the wee hours of the night, and ate “all of the things” in every port we stopped. And, now…my body is on strike! If you’ve recently enjoyed a vacation–or maybe even an entire summer–where you deviated from your regular routine, it can be common to feel out of sorts. That’s because unhealthier diet or lifestyle habits–repeated over time–can put a lot of strain on our liver–the organ responsible for eliminating hormone-disrupting toxins in the body.

In this episode you will learn:

  • How our liver becomes overburdened and the everyday chemicals that are most harmful to our hormones

  • How a “sluggish liver” can contribute to hormonal imbalances like estrogen dominance

  • The absolute worst (i.e. unhealthy and potentially harmful) products to use for a liver cleanse

  • Plus, the exact 3-step detox method I use to improve liver function and get rid of toxins and excess hormones...naturally!

When done right, a cleanse can kickstart healthy eating habits, reset your hormones, and even help you lose weight. So, if you’ve been dealing with fatigue, irritability, low energy, or problems sleeping and suspect an overburdened liver might be to blame, this episode is for you!

42 | Are Your Body Aches, Joint Pain, or Arthritis a Sign of Hormone Imbalance? 4 Causes That Have Nothing To Do With Aging [Perimenopause: From A-Z]08 Oct 202400:25:08

Hey friend,

Are you dealing with body aches and joint pain that don’t go away, no matter what you do?

Has your chronic pain and inflammation started to impact your mood, your relationships, or even your everyday activities? (Meanwhile, your doctor insists your symptoms are just “part of the aging process"?)

If you’ve been popping Advil lately like their M&M’s just to get through the day, you are not alone!

According to the latest research, nearly 100 million Americans between the ages of 20 and 64 suffer from chronic pain. And, up to 70% of all chronic pain sufferers are women. (🙋🏼‍♀️No surprise there!)

The problem is that while the majority of people dealing with chronic pain are women, eighty percent of all pain studies are conducted on male mice or humans–which means underlying root causes, like female hormones, are rarely considered when identifying effective solutions.

Join me for today’s episode as we unpack:

  • The four contributing hormonal causes of joint pain, body aches, and inflammation

  • How perimenopause and menopause can accelerate inflammation in a woman’s body

  • Traditional medicine’s approach vs functional nutrition’s approach to reducing and even eliminating inflammation and related symptoms

Plus, I’ll share the exact 3-step protocol I take my clients through to nourish, detoxify, and optimize their gut and hormones and ease pain naturally.

If you’re 1 in 5 of all women suffering from chronic pain, this episode is for you!

46 | Too Embarrassed To Ask? The Truth About Candida, Yeast Infections, And Hormone Imbalance [Perimenopause: From A-Z]05 Nov 202400:20:09

Hey friend,

Are you dealing with sudden, out-of-control cravings for sugary, starchy, or carby foods? (like, more than normal?)

…What about bloating, a skin rash, or even sinus issues that won’t go away (even though you’re doing everything to eat right and live a healthy lifestyle?)

…Or maybe you’ve found yourself visiting the Monistat aisle at your favorite drugstore a bit more frequently lately, because, umm, something’s going on “down there” again?

If you’ve been experiencing any or all of these symptoms, something called “candida overgrowth” could be to blame. And while there’s nothing quite like ANOTHER yeast infection to rain on your holiday parade, candida can also be a sign of an underlying hormonal imbalance.

In this week’s episode, I’m going to share with you everything you wanted to know about candida (but maybe were afraid to ask), including why so many women experience candida more often in perimenopause and menopause.

Join me in this episode where I’ll unpack:

  • 5 different ways candida shows up in our bodies

  • The “silent” symptoms of candida overgrowth to watch out for

  • 6 causes of candida infection, including the relationship between candida and diet

  • The connection between estrogen and candida

Plus, I’ll share the problem with conventional candida treatment and the first thing you need to do to stop a recurring yeast infection.

If you’re too embarrassed to go to your doctor (or worried he’ll just brush off your questions with another prescription), this episode is for you!

47 | Could Candida Be Causing Your Fatigue or Weight Gain? How To Curb Candida Overgrowth [Perimenopause: From A-Z]12 Nov 202400:21:55

Hey friend,

Today, I’m talking about the #1-holiday gut issue affecting women in perimenopause and menopause and how to curb or prevent a flare-up.

Yep, I’m talking about candida.

I can’t tell you how many women reach out to me every January regarding another yeast infection they’ve tried everything to get rid of…but, like an unwanted family member at Thanksgiving…just keeps coming back!

(🙋🏼‍♀️Been there; got the t-shirt!)

That’s because the holidays are one of the most sugar- and stress-filled times of the year–and a veritable breeding ground for yeast.

And although candida shows up most commonly in the form of a vaginal yeast infection, its “silent” symptoms can show up in our bodies in a lot of other ways including acid reflux, IBS, arthritis pain, sinus infections and allergies, anxiety, depression, uncontrollable cravings for sugar and refined carbohydrates–and, yes, even fatigue or rapid weight gain.

Join me in Part 2 of my discussion on candida where I’ll unpack:

  • 3 reasons why the holidays can lead to a candida outbreak

  • The difference between regular sugar cravings and candida-induced sugar cravings

  • Why candida could be the hidden cause of your fatigue or sudden weight gain

Plus, I’ll share five candida diet tips for keeping yeast at bay this holiday season (including the biggest candida culprits in your kitchen!)

If you want to know which cocktails are safe to ring in the New Year or the two sweeteners that won’t feed your candida when you’re craving sugar, this episode is for you!

Today, I’m continuing my 6-week series about how to enjoy the holidays…without sabotaging your hormones or gaining weight.

Did you know the average person consumes a whopping 4,500 calories on Thanksgiving?

That's the equivalent of 16 slices of pizza, 61 chicken wings, or 28 glazed donuts!!!

And all those extra calories aren’t even the worst of it! Because what we eat can have an even bigger impact on our hormones--and hormonal symptoms--than how much we eat.

In today’s quick-tip episode, I’m sharing “5 Nutrition Hacks To Prevent Holiday Overeating & Control Cravings.”

Join me as I unpack:

  • The four holiday ingredients that can negatively affect your hormones

  • The best Thanksgiving dishes to curb cravings and suppress hunger

  • Why skipping breakfast to save calories can backfire (and what to do instead)

  • The one carb you want to make sure to include plenty of on your holiday plate

Plus, I’ll share my #1 secret for hacking your bio-chemistry when your body wants sugar

If your plan for eating healthy holiday eating is “willpower” (Spoiler alert: Willpower is not a plan!), this episode is for you.
